Zudar’s on Platt

Zudar’s is a couple of blocks from my job, and a worthy place for lunch. I’ve had the Cuban, rueben and burger, to remember three things off the top of my head, and all were generous and delicious. There’s not a lot of parking… but then there’s not a lot of seating, so it all kind of works out. I mean, it’s not a huge place. It’s kind of a wonky place to navigate in a car — one-​ways and alleys and the Selmon Crosstown make it a bit hard to pull in and park, and if you miss it, you have to spend like another 15 minutes driving to get back, in traffic. But, if you want a good, solid deli lunch, it’s worth it.

Roast beef was spoiled. I mean rotten. My hands smelled from handing it. Wasn’t willing to try anything after that. As a chef, I have keen senses and am amazed that anyone in the kitchen couldn’t smell that before they served it. Was really looking forward to trying this place.

Zudar has always been a South Tampa Favorite spot … Fresh … Fun … Exciting food to eat.

I think this place is under-​appreciated. If you look at it for what it is — a small restaurant/​café, then it has everything you need… maybe even a little more. I’ve only eaten here one time — they have a basic small café menu — sandwiches, soups, salads, and some entrees. I’ve heard the desserts are amazing. The food and service was good, as were the drinks we ordered. Simply put, if you want an expensive meal with fancy wine that you swirl and smell in your glass, don’t come here to eat. Otherwise, it’s worth a visit, especially if you’re local.

Obsessed with the taco salad bowl. Their chicken quesadilla is awesome as well. Zudar’s is definitely a work lunchtime go-​to for me.

Great food and friendly staff. It’s cool they have a full bar now with lots of craft beer options as well. The staff is always friendly and the food is awesome. I’ve had the burger and fries a couple times and never been disappointed. My wife loves their soup and sandwiches. My friends live within walking distance and love to come up and hear the live music on the weekends. We will definitely be back!

I have never written a review on Unilocal.This place is terrible. The fruit was stinking. The fish was dry. Please go somewhere else.
The server was alright though.

They have great homemade dishes like braised short ribs, soups and pies. Generous portions on their salads. Freshly made deli sandwiches. Parking is a problem so hopefully you rode your bike. Lol

Great local spot in South Tampa. They have a new bar and outside patio! Breakfast and lunch are amazing. We will be back for dinner soon.

The burgers were awesome and the vegan chili was delicious. The chicken noodle soup was a favorite (they have chicken noodle and cabbage every day and other options that change) and so were the steak fajitas. The drink menu is ambitious, but the execution could use just a tiny bit of perfecting.
This seems like a great casual spot to have dinner and drinks with friends and it’s also kid-​friendly. I wish we were going to be here long enough to try their brunch menu!
They have updated their menu since it was last posted here and they no longer have nachos. I didn’t notice any other major changes.

Zudars is insane. Chocolate stuffed french toast, strawberry pancakes six inches high, crispy bacon, and great friendly service make this «the» breakfast place in downtown Tampa.

I go to Zudar’s for one thing only… the Yankee sandwich. Rye bread, turkey, thousand island, deli mustard and coleslaw. Now I am very picky about my coleslaw. And I have tried other sandwiches similar to this — none of which I liked because of the coleslaw.
But the Yankee is perfect! Absolutely yummy! I highly recommend trying it! You will not be disappointed.
It had been a while since I had my favorite sandwich. I was presently surprised to see:
1. I received crinkle fries with my sandwich. My favorite. And
2. They now have a bar! Looked cozy. :-)

Zudar’s I gave you another chance… epic fail! Burger ordered medium and it was raw! I was so disgusted I forgot to take a pic before throwing the mooing cow into the microwave. Then the avacado… yuk, just yuk. I did remember to take that photo. Zudar’s I am done!

Sat at the bar, Coppertail Night Swim (bottle) you had me at hello! Lunch: Cob nosh on pumpernickel for me with fries (crinkle cut, great bleu cheese dressing=yum). Met the owner, Erik– very friendly. Good food, friendly service, and walkable… that’s a winner for this girl!

I went to Zudar’s for happy hour because I received a flyer saying that they now have happy hour and extended hours. I live very close to Zudar’s and was hoping for a new spot to go close to home.
Zudar’s now has happy hour from 3 – 7 and live music until 9:00 on Friday and midnight on Saturday.
There were no happy hour options posted so we had to ask. Happy hour includes $ 4 house wine and 3 beer options, very limited.
When we got to the bar there was one bartender that was clearly not prepared for the new happy hour yet. She looked like she was struggling to take orders and payments for the almost full but small bar area. We ended up waiting 10 minutes to be acknowledged and I had to wait another 10 minutes to receive my wine as she kept telling me «sorry I have to go open another bottle» the house red wine was $ 4 on happy hour. It was terrible, probably a $ 3 bottle of wine. Not near as good as a $ 3 bottle of Trader Joes wine.
I did not get food as the atmosphere was not worth staying long enough to eat. The place feels like a cheap diner with a bar. Really strange. I just wanted to get out of there and go someplace else for dinner after finishing my bad wine.

Nothing to not like here. Had a breakfast sandwich and the bayshore (hash and eggs, my favorite) and both were delightful. Portions are great, prices are reasonable. They are under going some renovations which is exciting, can’t wait to see the finished product!

Terry was amazing! He was engaging, funny, and spoiled is. The French toast was comforting and the sausage to die for! Plus, you can get crayons on the table!

Wonderful little breakfast/​lunch spot for anyone in the area/​driving by.
I actually drove by this place for a whole year before realizing it was open and worth my time. But now it has become a weekend staple for me. Their food is simply great. Very fresh, tasty and generous (for those more hungry than others).
I would say I go once a month and have yet to be disappointed.
The staff are extremely friendly, but they can get backed up when busy so service gets slow.
Other than that, for any tampa-​native, its a must.

I live close by so this is a great place for me to go to if I am too lazy to make anything for myself. The portion sizes are pretty big and last me at least 2 meals. :)

Bacon brownies. The sign had intrigued me and mocked me for two years and every time I went to Publix to do some light grocery shopping. No. I don’t cook. You already know that. But I craft and serve incredible alcoholic libations. Isn’t a Bloody Mary a meal on its own? Couldn’t a cucumber gimlet adorned with basil and a sliced cucumber act as a liquid salad? If I only drink those… am I juicing? The sign bothered me. The deli says absolutely nothing in that corner. It is not ugly enough or pretty enough… it is just blah and there. Since I am observing the strictly-​no-​eating –out-​a-​lot counsel of my irrational accountant post tax day, I had to grocery shop. He had also advised me to never go grocery shopping while I am hungry. What is a girl to do? I was starving as I held my ecologically caring reusable grocery bags. As my platform heel stepped out of Aurora (Yes, I named my car), a Shakespearean existential question was asked: To eat or not to eat…
To eat. Imagine all the money I was saving by not going into Publix famished and depressed. I would have paid for cases of twinkies. I would have bought and carried out ho-ho’s (no pun intended. My friends were not with me). I might have kidnapped Sara Lee, Aunt Jemima and Ben and Jerry. No bueno! I casually crossed the street and entered Zudar’s. The insignificant outside is misleading. The place was packed. There was one table of two left untouched and ready for me right at the front door. Was this the deli version of Ciro’s Speakeasy? It was two o’clock and the place was a convention center for the hungry businessmen. Servers were running around taking orders, delivering food, answering phones and handing out bills. I tried to coyly reach the table in anonymity. It was not to happen. A table of six men (eating half sandwiches and a side of salad) turned and smiled. Up and down and up and down their eyes went. Had they confused me with Angelina Jolie? Maybe. I was having a really good hair day. I might have been pouting even. I knew the fascination with me would end the minute I ordered my food.
The green-​eyed foodie was with me so we ordered a mixed Reuben (corned beef hash and roast beef), a chicken parmesan sandwich, a side order of mac and cheese (because one can never have tried it enough. I want to be like a barista of the stuff. A macancheeserista.) We had promised to try the bacon brownies somehow too. Even when Zudar’s was filled with costumers, the service pulled through. Those tables were turning fast. Within ten minutes we were eating our sandwiches and harassing one another picking out food from the other’s plate. Great sandwiches. Huge. Wonderful value. The mac and cheese proved to be a slightly better version of the powdered Kraft one. Even the macaroni itself was a twin brother of the Kraft kind. Disillusioned.
I asked for the brownies to go. It turned out that there was also one kind made with peanut butter and bacon. So we did order enough to sample them. I can’t say if the experience of them while in the deli would have been any different. They were given to me individually wrapped in plastic wrap and they seemed cold and fudgey rather than brownish. Dense is an understatement. One tiny corner and the explosion of flavors left you baffled. The chocolate dissolves and you are left with serious bits of bacon and bacon fat slathered on the roof of your mouth. I believe these brownies are like one of those love or hate relationships. No matter how you look at them, when it is over you are bound to have a memorable aftertaste.
