I’m a regular buffet eater, all over the USA, and this place is one of the few that I would not return to if anything else were open. I’ve tried it twice and regretted it both times. The cooks simply don’t have much skill, and the place in general looks run down, so no third time for me

We were returning to New Orleans from Fort Lauderdale, which is a long drive. We wanted some«southern down home cooking» after eating cruise cuisine for five days. That is exactly what we got from this restaurant. We tasted/tried almost EVERYTHING on the buffet bar. There was nothing that we did try, that we didn’t like. Everything had that fresh homemade taste. The items that were supposed to be hot were and the items that were supposed to be cold were. It helped that for two adults, the total cost was only $ 24.47 and that included drinks and taxes but did not include a tip. If we are ever traveling that way, we will definitely dine there again.

Was in town for FAMU’s homecoming and decided to stop by before getting on the road this afternoon. Buffet including drink was reasonably priced at approximately $ 14. Hostess was very rude. When I asked for apple juice not knowing it wasn’t on the menu she rudely pointed to a laminated list of options. I had the fried chicken and fried shrimp from the buffet. The shrimp was breaded like I like and the chicken was seasoned nicely. Mac and cheese tasted homemade and not from a box. The black eye peas and dinner rolls were delicious. I tried the peach cobbler for dessert along with fruit. The fruit bar was one of the best parts of the meal. The peach cobbler was tasty but the texture was a little off for me. I would return.

This place is disgusting. The First time I visited my aunt found a hair in her food. This time I found a bug!!! A bug! Yes I said it. The manager did absolutely nothing to try to fix the situation. Let’s just say this place will NEVER receive business from me. EVER again!!!

Oh soul food, I love things that are braised, everything! I like it a lot, lots of veggies. Didn’t really have any meat though. My boyfriend doesn’t like it though.

The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. I eat there at least once per month. Dont down play this place until you have tried it.

Why four stars, you ask? 1. Authenticity. The buffet offerings are TRUE to what anyone would agree to be stereotypical soul-food cuisine. 2. Charm. You’ll find things AND people to marvel over. The sheer excitement that overcomes a diner on his third dessert can be a treat unto itself. 3. Service. While the bussers are doing double-time as drink-bringers, you’ll appreciate the extra effort they exert while conveying to you that, although this is a buffet and the diner is effectively taking the order/fulfilling the order/delivering the order, they are INFACT the sole source for obtaining the beverage which was purchased at the front end. 4. Unrivaled CPM(calories per mouthful) factor. It’s true: the diner COULD create a 7,000 calorie plate if so chosen — and certainly return to replicate the feat. While it may sound haughty, I admit I’m not surprised that this is the FIRST Unilocal review. This restaurant has been here for years(previously known as the«old times buffet» — with the identical format) but the patronage doesn’t seem interested in such a service as Unilocal.
