History

Established in 1978.

In 1922 Tahoe Tavern brought guests to the Granlibakken Valley by sleigh for sledding and snow play. Then in 1928 a Norwegian Ski Jumping Team was commissioned to build a ski jump here and in 1931 – 1932 Olympic Ski Jumping trials were held here. In the 1940’s a ski hill was developed by another Norwegian skier and the hill was named Granlibakken meaning «hill sheltered by fir trees.» This was the first ski resort within the Tahoe Basin. The little ski and sledding hill operates today with sledding daily and skiing Friday, Saturday & Sunday and weekends from December to April. A rental shop with skis and snowboards, snow shoes and x-country skis plus an snack bar offering home made Mexican food and kid friendly items. Today Granlibakken has 190 rooms plus a full service Conference Center serving from 4 to 400. Granlibakken is known for its all-inclusive meeting packages including lodging, meeting space and three delicious meals plus wireless and wired high speed internet access.
