Looking for a great, affordable Italian restaurant in Tahoe? This is it. Old-school environment, great menu, entrees that come with lots of minestrone soup and a great italian salad. You can also have soup and salad and go home sated. Full bar, carafes of wine, pleasant family-owned for ever restaurant. Reminded me of east coast Italian restaurants of olde.

Found Bacchi’s while we were driving around/exploring the area, and knew we had to try it. Don’t judge this book by its cover!!! Old-school Italian dining, very retro. Your entrée includes both soup and salad, and the presentations were excellent. Very retro feeling. C.H., our waiter, was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable of offerings, and made us feel welcome. Yes, bring your appetite, as the servings are huge. My only glitches would be seating us by the kitchen entrance(only diners upon arrival, so plenty of tables available), and not having a drink at the bar/fireplace first. Gives us a reason to return!!!

Old school Italian ! This is an excellent example of retro fine Italian dining. Bring your appetite, as entrees include family style soup(vegetarian) and salad. Delicious pasta. Attentive waiter, C.H. offered great service. Ambience is old Tahoe style. Don’t judge this book by its cover. This eatery has been in the same family since 1932. Give it a try. It will be a fun and delicious experience from a bygone era.

Wow, I am also confused by the bad reviews as this place is GREAT! Yes, it is a throwback place but that is part of its charm. It is old school and really wonderful. The service was great, just right. Came by to check on us without being invasive. Was helpful in getting the kids things they would eat without prompting. The music was right out of the Godfather. The meal started out with them lighting the candle on the table, a nice touch. The red carpet and low lighting made for a cozy experience. The soup was excellent. My nine year old said«This is the best soup I have ever had and I could just eat it all night.» And of course you could if you wanted to because they will just keep bringing it. The salad was good too. Yummy house dressing and plentiful. This is a family oriented place, not fancy but nice. We weren’t drinking but they have a full bar and a small but reasonable wine list. We had seen this place for years but never made it in until recently and now will be back again and again. We visited on a snowy evening and couldn’t be happier. So cozy, great comfort food, and nice people. For those that wrote bad reviews, I just don’t know what to say. Maybe they had a bad night but places like this are becoming too rare. I am so glad they are still going strong after 80+ years.

Awesome old school Italian place. The food was excellent and so was the service. Avoid the crowds and drive another mile to try this place, you’ll be glad you did. I got the chicken parm and the minestrone, it was great!

This place is amazing. A real time warp. Cozy old school Italian restaurant. We stumbled upon this place NYE and it was perfect. The kids had a great time with the pool table and we enjoyed the family style soup, salad and homemade pastas. This restaurant has been in the family for years and we got to spend some time talking with the family ourselves. It was just perfect. We will definitely come here again. Only 4 stars because the service isn’t quick, but if you are prepared for that, as we were, it’s really no big deal.

Just had a dinner with my family. I have no idea why they have 3 stars rating. Everything was delicious and the price was really fair. I recommend!

Great old style Italian restaurant. The veal parmigiana is amazing. Their red meat sauce is thick, rich and delicious and we love their minestrone soup. Everytime we are in Tahoe, we make sure to eat at Bacchi’s. Great for large family groups.

Even though I live in Los Angeles, this is my all-time favorite family Italian restaurant. I came here with my parents years ago and still come with my husband. In Los Angeles every time we have Italian food especially spaghetti and meatballs and ravioli, we say it’s good but it’s not Bacci’s. But what is?! The minestrone soup is the best in the world and the salad is great too. And there’s nothing like their pasta. My only complaint is that it isn’t closer.

I absolutely love this place. Have been going there since I was a teenager with my family over 45 years ago. Whenever we stayed in Tahoe City we traditionally ate there it was a «must do this» type of thing. We ate and at the end of the meal would go for a walk to help ease the discomfort of overeating like a Thanksgiving dinner. The minestrone soup was extremely delicious and the antipasto and salad complimented your upcoming main dish. Everyone usually got a different dish, and the sides of pasta were delicious. With the family size bowls of minestrone soup and salad and unlimited bread you were full. We would. bring the rest of our main course home in cartons to enjoy later the next day. I haven’t been there in about 15 years but it is a must for me to go back and dine there again. Is so rich in family tradition that we had the same waiter for about 30 years I want to say. Can’t wait to return there looking forward to it. James Regalado — San Jose, Ca

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years. The restaurant has been open for over 80 years and has stayed in the family. We love the family feel and the food is excellent. Sitting at the bar and hearing the locals talk is always entertaining. I know there are mixed reviews of this restaurant but i have nothing negative to say. Drinks are always excellent and reasonably priced for the area. Service has always been attentive and the waiters are always helpful with suggestions. I love the Veal Parmesan and tortellini with four cheese sauce. My husband loves the meatballs. He can’t leave without having their meatballs. We always order the garlic bread which is my favorite garlic bread. There is so much food you always have left overs which makes the price reasonable when u can have a full other meal the next day. Love this place and look forward to another 80 years!!!

We have walked by this place for years and because of the reviews, we were hesitant to try it. We are pleased to report that a lot of these reviews are wrong in our opinion. Yes the place is old-same owners since 1932-but we love that old Italian family style. The interior is typical for this kind of restaurant-so quaint. Red check tablecloths, vintage dishes, dark paneling, and waitstaff in black and white. Perfect so far. Not too crowded when we walked in, but was almost full when we left. Lots of large parties. Service was excellent! Attentive and very quick, but not pushy. Cocktails were reasonably priced for Tahoe in the summer and well made. Now to the food: meals come with soup & salad and a side of your choice of pasta with entrees-family style. Pastas can be ordered with several different sauces. The menu is large. The soup was very good-lots of veggies, beans and shell pasta. Salad was also very good-house dressing and a large selection of antipasti. Bread was fresh and soft. Our entrees were the chicken parm & veal scaloppine. We liked the chicken for the most part. Their meat sauce is typical southern Italian-very red & heavy, so as a northern Italian I thought it was a bit heavy. But the chicken was tender and juicy, with lots of yummy cheese on top. The veal was actually kind of odd. The sauce was more like a thin soup and as such came in a boat. Veal was good tho. We both had the house made raviolis. Again sauce was too heavy for my taste but rav’s were perfect little pillows. Spimoni for dessert! All in all, it was a good dinner and we really enjoyed the waiter. Price was great for the amount of food you get. Next time I will try the pesto.

Please call Restaurant Impossible to save this place. It had potential to be good. Me and my family like old Italian places like this. Bartender seems bitter like he did not want to be there. We should have ran then. Soup is good salad is good. All entrees bland and boring. Service was good. Wine is good. Just get soup salad and garlic bread if u go here or keep driving to Lanzas!

Read the Unilocal revus and DONOTGOHERE!!! Love family style Italian and I know good Italian. this was probably one of the worst meals I ever didn’ t eat. So many things wrong with this slop joint I don’t think there is enuf room to write it all. From the outside the place is a dump… painted probably 40 years ago, weeds growing all over… boards falling off building. deplorable…now I am asking myself why I even went in??? Inside.bar.looks like a messy restaurant storage room… junk all over… dirt and dust and probably spiders… rags, dirty glasses, books, papers. dark and dingy. Please forgive me Mr. Bartender/Owner…for interrupting your movie… Battleship…we are so sorry we asked us to make us three weak cocktails and a shirley temple. You are a rude jerk!!! And 40 $ for three cocktails, a shirley and a carafe of lousy wine??? Now get this. the public restrooms are closed off by yellow crime scene tape… with chairs stacked in the hall to the restrooms. you have to use the employee rest room in the back of the dump… filthy and it is unisex. I would nor sit my butt on that toilet seat for anything altho I am sure many people do after running to the room after dining on their food!!! Dining room was clean but dark. Waiter was pretty good. poor guy.I am sure he does not tell any of his friends he works there. too embarrassed.l Minestrone soup was good but i now wonder if they make it from the bottom of the sink when they scrape off the used plates. Salad pretty god but again… am i eating someone else left over salad. Four entrees… bland shrimp and scallop pasta, spag and ravioli. worst ravs we ever had. think they take them off other guests plate. Wash them off. Freeze them and then reheat them. YUCK!!! Chicken cacciatore… worst ever. it was a small breast not a bone in chicken as it is supposed to be… lousy sauce. some Unilocalers say their sauces are canned… sorry folks… canned sauce it better than this place serves Spicy sausage and pasta… had same sauce as the chicken cacciatore. All were horrible and we took most home for the dog but the dog wanted nothing to do with it. Bread.think is was the dollar loaf of sliced from Safeway. Cold and stale. Bill…$ 140…ouch.my bad. should have walked out when we met the bartender. Hey Mr. Bacchi… best thing for u is to lock the doors and hire a bulldozer to take care of the place… I know food. don’t go there. Even if some Unilocalers say it is good This is the worst review i have ever written. An they deserve every word of it. Thank heavens we had a good supply of TP after we ate there… heed may warring and stock up if you don’t take my advice and try it anyway. The health department mp needs to get out and close this place up and quick!!! PS. It was Friday night… place was empty. probably did 24 dinners that night and Tahoe was loaded with people. that tells you something!!!

The setting was perfect for a hearty meal on a cold night. Definitely an old school Italian family restaurant. Wait staff and service was very friendly and attentive, just excellent. The house dressing and marinade for the beets and chickpeas made for a great salad. The soup was hot and full of veggies.

Seriously… avoid avoid avoid. Absolutely everything but the wet iceberg lettuce was canned or frozen. There is no chef in the kitchen. Everything is probably microwaved by the waiters. Antipasto: pre-sliced cheap salami and Velveeta cheese squares. I ordered sweetbreads, ate one bite and pushed it aside. Waiter noted my disdain and asked if I didn’t like them, which I affirmed without a hint of irony. He probably thought that I didn’t know what I was ordering and was turned off by organ meat, but the truth is that I love sweetbreads and order them whenever there’s an opportunity. These tasted as if they had been in the freezer for a decade or so, and the sauce was indescribably vile. And that’s about as good as it gets. We didn’t get sick. At the least. OH, and the minestrone wasn’t too bad, but it was a little scary, like, do I really want to eat something that tastes sort of home-made that came out of this kitchen? It probably now contains sweetbreads. Actually, their old ‘30s sign is about as good as it gets. As you walk in, you note the dining room is redolent of David Lynch: Gloomy and dim, soft gold lighting, low ceiling, dark corners, musty carpet, quiet patrons looking down at their plates, as if they all share some dark secret that you’re not in on. Yet. It feels like a bad food dream. 20 minutes later you’re one of them, staring despondently down at your inedible dinner. Obviously, the patrons are tourists who won’t return anyway, and don’t heed Unilocal warnings. OK, I read the reviews, but was invited by someone who was also paying. After reading all the Unilocal I can only imagine that the sort of people who eat here are those that go down to the beach when there’s a tsunami warning. YOU’VEBEENWARNED! Abandon all hope…

Bacchi’s is an old school Italian place. We have been going since the 70s and things haven’t changed much. We hadn’t been for years but went last night. I have to say I was expecting the worst based on a lot of these reviews and was pleasantly surprised. The minestrone & salad(love the dressing!) we’re exactly as I remember. Delicious! I had the spaghetti with clams & it was not the best I’ve ever had but was solid. Definitely NOT out of a can like some of the other reviewers have implied. My dining companions had the chicken parm & a sausage pasta dish. Everything was tasty & homemade. The service was terrific and quick. We’ll be back!
