History

Established in 1996.

I have been teaching private lessons since 1996 at Ted Brown music in Tacoma. I also have been teaching at The Tacoma School of the Arts as an artist in residence since 2001, and have been directing the Jazz Ensemble at Pierce College since 2003.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest studying both classical and jazz music, and have studied with several of the great performers and teachers in the area including: Tracy Knoop, Don Lanphere, Jay Thomas, Hadley Caliman, Dave Peck, Chuck Deardorf, Jovino Santos Neto, Randy Halberstadt, and Julian Priester.

I have a Bachelors Degree Of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington.

When not teaching, I tour and perform regularly both with my own group, The Kareem Kandi Band, and The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.
