I was looking for a used car and found a used 1994 Ford Pickup instead. It looked really good and sounded really good, but I’m not an expert, so took the truck to All Transmissions for a pre-​purchase inspection. Within an hour they confirmed that the truck, although twenty years old had been well-​maintained. I wasn’t looking for something perfect, but was looking for something to be an extra family vehicle and make the occasional dump run. Steve at All Transmissions assured me this was what I had chosen. Questionable ‘discount’
I was referred to this shop to have suspension work done due to a clanging noise that occurred when I went over bumps. I was given a referral card that was good for 10% off up to $ 50 dollars. The technician informed me the front struts were going bad and gave me a price for the work. The quote did not break out the parts, labor and discount. When we came to pick up the car, the price was exactly what we were quoted but the bill did not include the $ 50 discount. The manager, Dan, who worked up the quote wasn’t there when we picked up the car and I was told we would need to call back later to speak with him. When I called back he told me the discount was worked into the price and explained since he had 15 years of experience he was able to just make the numbers work. I had been told they were using a labor calculator for the cost of the labor and I assume the the cost of the parts are what they are. So unless the numbers were fudged somewhere, we did not receive the discount we were told. To top it off, the bill also made note that it’s important to replace the back struts at the same time of replacing the front as they often wear out at the same rate. This would have been nice to know upfront and not after we had just paid $ 1600 to fix the problem. We will be replace the back struts but not with this shop.
