Since starting in Peoria in 1979, the company has expanded to include locations in Litchfield Park, Tatum Ranch, Surprise and Goodyear. Community service comes naturally to all Wilhelm employees no matter which location is involved.

Wilhelm Automotive, a family owned and operated auto repair company, has joined forces with The Hybrid Shop (THS) to bring expert care for hybrid-​electric vehicles including green and cost-​saving diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance services to owners of hybrid vehicles. All seven of Wilhelm Automotive’s locations will now have certified hybrid repair technicians to service all makes and models of hybrid vehicles.

David W.

Manager

David Wimbley is the manager of Wilhelm Automotive’s Surprise Auto Repair & Service Center. He brings experience and education to his leadership position. A graduate of Northern Arizona University, he worked his way through school with jobs in the automotive field. With more than twelve years of automotive experience to draw on, Wimbley offers knowledgeable guidance when customers need to make repair decisions. He embraces the Wilhelm commitment to excellence in both customer service and professional workmanship.

To prepare for his duties, Wimbley starts his day with pre-​dawn workouts at a local gym. You’ll find him, bright and early, at 14 297 W. Grand Avenue in Surprise.

I went in to have my truck looked at for a very specific thing. She told me they may need to do a test that cost $ 55 dollars. I asked if it was needed and she said no. Perfect, I said cool I DO NOT want that then. Just please checkout what i asked you to do. (took it in because it was over heating and wanted them to check the cooling system)
She calls me, then she says and I quote «I took the liberty of spending your $ 55» So whatever, im not happy about it but i pay it without even saying anything.
They tell me I need a brand new engine, and that it had nothing to do with the cooling system.
Oh, the good piece is that it would ONLY cost like $ 4900 to get it fixed and they’d be more than happy to start on it today.
On their reciept, it said i needed a new engine due to high miles…(140k)
I took it to another spot, and they did what i asked and check out the cooling systems… and we fixed the problem my truck is back to running fine. (with the same engine that needed replaced)
What a joke.

I live and work in Cave Creek and like to support the local businesses. My 25 yr old daughter who is a single parent took her Saturn into the Cave Creek location. The car needed a new clutch in which the estimate was $ 2499.00. In shock, she was referred to another legitimate automotive repair shop in Phoenix where she had the car towed.
They did the job for $ 900. VERY disappointing and would encourage everyone to get a second opinion.

To date I have only had routine maintenance performed at the Grand Avenue location in Surprise. In each case, Wilhelm was fast, professional and courteous. I normally wait while service is performed and the estimated wait time has always been accurate. I appreciate that service coupons are honored and generally no attempt to sell additional service.

Long story short… They swore with 100% certainty we needed a brand new A/​C unit and that the compressor was going bad. I asked how they tested and they said they can hear the compressor going out. He asked if I heard it — I didnt. They did no line test even they they charged me for the inspection. Refusing to sink $ 1500 into the car, I took it home.
I went to Infiniti to have a second opinion. They tested the system for free and immediately found a hose line leak. Not only that, they said the leak would have been obvious to anyone who performed such test. For less than$ 500 we have had ice cold AC for over a year. The compressor works fine.
What is really upsetting is the amount of positive reviews here. They were absolutely certain the system was failing and that the compressor was bad but clearly never tested it properly. Either way they nearly cost me $ 1000 in wasted repairs. It’s a sad day when I get a better deal from the dealership for a repair.

I was so impressed when I stopped in for an oil change I decided to make Wilhelm my go to for auto repairs. I even spent $ 100 on their Car Care Card. A few hundred dollars later with several hundred to go, I got concerned when they told my daughter she needed an oil change on a vehicle that had an oil change 5 days prior. Also, every time, my final cost has been more than the estimate. The last straw was when I brought my vehicle in for a repair to a power window. They had me bring it in and took almost all day to tell me they needed to order the part. Claimed that my son-​in-​law had broken some type of clamp when he partially disassembled the door — so of course that was much more money. Then did not get the part when promised. Oh, and Brock was rude to my daughter. Finally, I call Brake Masters to price the work that I was told, by Wilhelm, I absolutely needed — pads and rotors. A month ago they said I needed to do it within two months. A few days ago, when my brakes started to sound like a jet landing, I knew it was time. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that I did not need new rotors after all. And very friendly service at Brake Masters. I really don’t get how Wilhelm has such high reviews. I was misled. Don’t let them fool you too.

been to this shop a few times. you can drop off your car at night and have them do it in the morning. they’ll call you when its done. friendly and polite. they seem to be fair and honest. seems a little higher priced than other shops but it seems that you get what you pay for. when i bought my 2000 van it had some issues running and it runs better today than before since ive had this shop start working on it.

Just recently, I’d forgotton my appointment and when I remembered the day after and called Nancy, she was so helpful and kind in rescheduling me — for that very day in fact! I trust the crew and feel they’ve always been fair and honest with me.

Once again, we’re impressed with the level of service we get from Wilhelm when maintaining our cars. This allows us to keep our higher mileage cars for longer without being concerned for their reliability.

Our car’s air conditioning gave up the ghost one hot Wednesday afternoon. Checking online for local repair shops the reviews of Wilhelm instilled confindence. We call and made an appointment to bring our car the next day. The folks at Wilhelm did a quick examination and brought us the bad or badder news. We had two quotes; one at $ 1900 and one at $ 1600. The difference being off brand components. Our service tech did give us a moment and we chose the lesser cost option. They told us that our car could be ready by 4pm that afternoon and they offered to take us home and pick us up when the car was ready. We really appreciated their offer (we live about 18 miles outside of Surprise). Their driver was friendly coming and going.
The service was prompt; however as we drove off our engine and transmission were lurching. We made one stop and decided to immediately bring back our car back to the shop. The quickly took it back and we waited. They said they needed to drive it for about 10 miles to reset the computer engine system because it was self adjusting. We waited another 20 minutes and our car was ready again. We got in drove off and all seems good.
In summary, Wilhelm Automotive was courteous, efficient, and responsive. Staff was all very friendly and we will bring back our car if we have other service needs. We did get a «free» sunscreen. My wife and I laugh and call it our $ 1600 sun shade.

They repaired my car for a failure to start problem. The same problem occurred again in less than 20 miles of driving. The diyagnosed it as a problem that the dealer had to repair. They issued me a check for $ 400 plus dollars. This was the total cost of the repair and included parts as well as labor. They apologized for the misdiagnosis of the problem the firs time.
I thought their handling of the problem to be outstanding. I will use their service in the future.

I have used this Wilhelm location for several years for servicing both a 2004 Volvo S40 and 2007 Mercury Mariner. Great Service at a great price.
Last week, my wife stopped by in her Volvo to have them check her battery (new from them a month ago) and in the process found that we had a leaking fuel regulator (all this at no charge). Went back to the dealership to verify the regulator problem which they replaced under warranty saving me $ 260.00 just 2 days before the warranty expired. Today I stopped by to price a 60,000 mile service for the Volvo which will come in under $ 100. The dealership wanted $ 425.00. Can’t beat their service or price. Jim is a great service manager. And they are a «Green» shop. I highly recommend this Wilhelm location for all your service needs.

They’ve been at this location for two and a half years, and no Unilocal… what a shame!
Called them up earlier this week to have them do an inspection on a used car we were thinking about buying (a second opinion). Not only did they get us in quickly, but they did a visual inspection of the car without charging us a dime (Consumer Reports told us we might be out $ 120 for a similar type of inspection). If we lived within 10 – 15 miles of this place, we’d go back with any automotive issues. Nice to find a mechanic who’s not out to take all your money.
Friendly service. Lots of satisfied customers… if the comment cards mounted on the wall are any indication. Highly recommend.
