I love going to see Dr. Shin. She is really great. She answers all of my questions and we discuss any issues or problems. She is practical, trustworthy, friendly and very professional. I am well taken care of by her and her staff. I highly recommend her.

Let’s be honest. Most people don’t like going to the dentist. Visits to the dentist are known break the strongest of men. However, even the strongest of men can rest assured that they will be able to get through a visit with Dr. Shin and her team.
Dr. Shin’s team does a great job of welcoming you to the office and making sure everything is up and ready. Everyone is courteous, and the overall environment takes the edge off my nerves. Gina, the hygiene specialist, runs the entire cleaning process in an efficient and methodical manner. She powers through, tooth by tooth with impressive proficiency. At the end of the clean, Dr. Shin comes in to answer questions and review your dental records. Dr. Shin does a great job of explaining why you need to floss and etc. and etc. I’m ashamed to say, but I actually didn’t really understand why flossing was that important. My previous dentist would silently power through all my teeth, making the occasional grunt here and there.
In summary, dental check ups kind of suck. However, Dr. Shin and her team to an exceptional job of making the process very bearable.

I have been visited Dr. Shin since 2011. I have to decide to leave at the end of 2015. One Friday night, my filling got chopped off when I flossing, I haven’t been through this before, I am kinda freak out. I called her for a suggestion. She was not happy because she thinks it is too late (11:30pm) and I shouldn’t call. I was not happy after I hang up the phone with not much suggestion and I sent some text message and photos of the chop-​off piece. Monday, I went to her office. I didn’t mention anything about last Friday’s call. She straightly asked me to be more considerable when calling because it is late and she complained about my last call about my crown chopping off. She said she went to bed early (10:00?I don’t remember clearly) and she has a three-​year-​old son… I did explain it is the first time that the filling chop-​off occurs to me and I didn’t know what to do. She kept going on. And then I asked what is the definition of dental emergency. She said only if you keep bleeding and suffer a lot of pain. I am not grown-​up here and I was thinking maybe I am wrong. Later, I talked to one of my doctor friends, she told me if patients feel it is an emergence, it should be defined as an emergence.
I will leave the judgement to other audiences. But I will put one 1 star based on my experience. When I began to see Dr. Shin, she seemed nice. I did three fillings there, one root-​canal and regular cleanings. I feel something changed on her side.

Dr. Sandra Shin is the best and has earned every one of her five-​star reviews. My family has been seeing her for 5+ years, after bouncing between other so-​so dentists in the Bay Area. Here are some of the ways in which Dr. Shin outranks her competition:
Diligence and dedication to her patients: As others here have noted, Dr. Shin will extend an already long appointment if anything comes up during a routine or scheduled procedure. She has done a filling of mine on the spot because I drive from the Dublin/​Pleasanton area to see her.
Flexibility and scheduling: Her receptionist Lisandra is professional, efficient, and kind. She works with Dr. Shin to accommodate your schedule and communicate via your preferred methods. I receive a post card and email reminder before my routine cleanings, and reschedule appointments by email if needed. (But Lisandra probably communicates with my mom primarily via phone, as she prefers.)
Experience and expertise: Dr. Shin keeps detailed records on my teeth (which she is specifically watching for decay/​changes), gum measurements, and current x-​rays. When I visit 2x/​year, I feel like we’re engaging in an ongoing discussion about my overall oral care, and Dr. Shin remembers a LOT of detail — in addition to tracking on the computer. I’ve had a few fillings done in the past few years, and she always takes the time to do a great job, while providing a comfortable experience. She’s had her DMD for 18 years and has seen a lot of teeth. I like to ask a lot of questions and really try to understand each decision being made, and Dr. Shin is very accommodating — she even takes before/​after pictures to explain an entire procedure.
Office and comfort factor: I actually have been forcing myself to refer to Dr. Shin throughout this review, as I really just think of her as my friend Sandra who is also a kickass, detail-​oriented dentist. We always catch up on what has been going on in our lives and with our families at each visit. Her waiting room is cozy, everything is spotlessly clean, and she has a great fish tank. Even more importantly: I always feel I can speak up about anything going on throughout an appointment, which is key.
Insurance: I have a pretty standard dental plan, but this office is flexible with the providers they accept. Check Dr. Shin’s website (

Dr. Shin, Gina the hygienist and Liandra are great. I was referred by my brother who is already a patient there. Took my 4 yr old for her first check up and cleaning and I was so pleased! Gina explained everything step by step and was very gentle with my daughter. Then I had my cleaning (which was excellent!) and check up. Dr. Shin was very personable and notated things she was going to monitor in my teeth for my next visit. It was overall very pleasant and efficient and best of all my daughter wants to come back for another cleaning! Happy mama here. So glad we have finally found our family dentist.

Dr. Shin is the best dentist in my life! She is very professional, thorough, patient and caring. I had several cavities and two crowns done by Dr. Shin. The bites feel perfect without any pain or problems. She also has many fine touches like putting lip balm on patients before she does any work to protect lips from rubbing against the instruments, sunglasses to protect our eyes from the bright light… If you are with Dr. Shin, your teeth is in good hands!!!

I have been visiting Dr. Shin for the past 4 years. She is very attentive to detail about the dental clean up or filling. I got couple of fillings done and she has done a great job.
She gives very good tips on dental hygiene and has helped improve the health of my teeth. She is very friendly and replies very quick if I have any questions or want to make appointments.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shin’s for somewhere around 10 years now. I’ve followed her from her last practice to her current one, stayed with her when I went off to school in Missouri (every visit home was accompanied by an appointment!), and now that I’m back in the area, refuse to go to anyone else. I’ve recommended her to friends and relatives, and am 100% happy with her work.
Dr. Shin does an amazing job — and as I have terribly cavity prone teeth and sloppy dental hygiene… — I know the quality of her work is outstanding. Through all of the cavities and hours spent in her office, I’ve never once experienced any pain or discomfort (minus the small pinch of the needle right at the beginning, which is mitigated to almost null by her use of topical anesthetic) — honestly, I fall asleep in the chair every time. Post having work done, I regain feeling within a couple of hours, max, and rarely, if ever, experience any kind of soreness. I follow her instructions of avoiding too hot/​cold food, and chewing on the opposite side, and have never had to go back due to uneven bite, sensitivity, or anything else out of the ordinary.
Aside from the stellar job she does on my teeth, she is an amazing person. I actually look forward to going to the dentist, as I know she and Veronica will always make it beyond pleasant. We all chat, catch up, and I think of her as a friend more so than a «professional acquaintance.» She genuinely cares about me as a person (not solely as a patient) and I feel that every time I walk in the door.
Her office does a great job of accommodating my schedule as well, and she really does go above and beyond to ensure her patients are satisfied. Personal example #1: I had an appointment to fill a cavity, but had just chipped my front tooth the week before. When I arrived, I told her about the chip and asked to get another appointment with her, so she could fix it. She ended up doing it that same day, and my hour and a half appointment turned into a two hour one, with my appointment being the last one of the day, no less. Example #2: I was again the last appointment (my schedule doesn’t really allow for any other time to go…) and was there for her to fill one cavity. Once she drilled out the area, she saw that because it was between the teeth, that it had spread to the other tooth. This wasn’t evident on the x-​ray, so was an unexpected (and unwelcome) surprise. Instead of having me make another appointment to have that one filled, she extended my hour and a half time, to two hours, yet again, and took care of it that day.
Clearly, Dr. Shin really does accommodate her patients (at her own inconvenience, no less — traffic is awful at 5/5:30ish when I end up getting out of there…) and her work really is outstanding. I’ve never been to a better dentist, and I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to find one even if I looked.

Dr. Shin is the best dentist I’ve been to. I have been going to Dr. Shin for over 2 years and have had multiple procedures done (cleaning, fillings, crown). All of the procedures have been painless and to my utmost satisfaction. One thing cool is that Dr. Shin takes a picture of your tooth and explains what she’ll be doing before the procedure. Then, of course, she shows you a picture of your perfected tooth after :)
Dr. Shin is a perfectionist and is very patient and thorough. She’s also super sweet and makes you feel very comfortable. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Shin.

Dr. Shin is the very best Dentist I have ever used. I have just completed a one year dental plan to remove all of my old silver fillings and replace all fillings with beautiful new porcelain. All of my cavities are fixed. My teeth are now in great shape.

absolutely amazing. I would never go anywhere else for my dental needs. Dr. Shin is gentle, yet so thorough. I used to have anxiety attacks at dental offices. Dr. Shin has completely changed my horrific views, I no longer dread going to get my cavities fixed or teeth cleaned. I am SO glad I found her!!! I highly highly highly recommend her, it really doesnt get better. Due to the nature of getting your teeth fixed, the discomfort is always there, but i have never felt pain while being treated by Dr. Shin.

I can’t even remember how long I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shin’s. I’ve now followed her through 2 practices and drive all the way down from San Francisco to see her (she’s THAT good). She’s incredibly talented, super friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to give you the individualized attention that is missing from modern medicine. Dr. Shin is the best dentist I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. She is very thorough in her examinations, asking all the right questions and drilling down — no pun intended — to the root causes of any issues you might be suffering from. So far I’ve seen her for multiple cleanings and I’ve been very happy with my experience each time. An incredibly pleasant and communicative doctor, I really enjoy the fact that she has a young and burgeoning practice because she gives me, and all her patients I’m sure, a lot of attention, unlike a few dentists I’ve seen in the past who would only see me long enough to glance at my x-​rays and tell me how many cavities I had. She’s great at her job and very cool to talk to, so I’ll be seeing her for as long as I have teeth (which, based on her work, will be a very long time).

I’ve been seeing Dr. Shin for years when she was partnered with another dentist. Now she’s ventured out to start her own practice. She’s really great. I’m having a crown done with her now and she sent me an email over the weekend checking in to see how my tooth was. Takes the time to talk with you to walk you through anything that needs to be done. I met Dr Shin about 6 – 7 years ago while she shared an office with my then current dentist. When my current dentist took a medical leave, Dr Shin took over and I have never gone back. I found her attention to detail and skills to be the best that I have experienced. When she moved to start her own practice, I was glad that she stayed in the area and I have since moved my entire family’s dental care with her. Seeing a dentist has never been one of my favorite things to do, but with Dr Shin, I know it will be professionally competent and without pain, which is really important to me! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic dentist!
