Sure, they have a great looking office with cool toys for kids to play with and ceiling-​mounted TVs for kids to watch during dental services, but looks aren’t everything, I assure you.
I was new to this office. It was recommended for my children by my regular (adult) dentist. When I took my son there for 2 extractions, things went mostly smooth. When I started to take my daughter there for tooth pain she was having, they wanted to do a cleaning before addressing the pain. I understood wanting to take x-​rays and doing an exam before fixing the problem, but if a child is in pain, you address the problem causing discomfort before insisting on a cleaning being done, putting the actual necessary work off until a later date. That tells me they don’t care as much about the child and the child’s comfort as much as making an extra buck on the cleaning services. Furthermore, I have to drive from San Jose to this office. I asked that the receptionist search for an afternoon appointment so that I wouldn’t have to fight 2 hours of traffic to make a mid or late morning appointment time. I was told by Dr. Leong personally as well as by the assistant scheduling an appointment on a DIFFERENT occasion that no, it is against their policy to schedule 4-​year-​olds for afternoon appointments based on «temperament.» I explained that all children are different, that I just brought my 4-​year-​old during her regular nap time, and she did wonderfully, so it would be very nice for them to make an exception and schedule my daughter in the afternoon so that it would not cause me two hours of traffic and require me to take off from work. If my child’s temperament was poor, then fine, at least they gave us the chance. They refused. The woman told me «this is our office and that is our policy.»
Additionally, AFTER the exam was done, they advised me insurance would not be covering the exam. A professional business would have advised the patient about that ahead of time, before services were rendered, in case there was any problem with paying out of pocket for the service. When I advised her I would need to start going to a different pediatric dentist based on their strange policy about 4 year olds and their «temperament» (that word was used over and over as the reason for their policy, despite the fact that they provided my regular dentist a different story and reason when questioned), the woman told me «okay… then we’ll just mail you your bill at home!» as I walked out the door. The whole thing was very rude. They are not accommodating to their patients which they claim to «value.» The policy makes no sense, and the backwards way they do things is frustrating to say the least.

This office is really good for kids. A cool circular layout so if you have multiple kids with simultaneous spots you can be with them all at the same time. Screens above all the chairs playing kids movies and adorably painted walls. Receptionist is very conscientious and every hygienist and dentist we have seen there (there are several) has been very competent and good with distracting and talking to my kids (ages 5 and 2).

In 2011, I told my wife specifically that I did not want to have our children treated with flouride. When my wife came home she told me she was bullied by one of Michael Leong’s dentist who was very patronizing and rude, who insisted and put flouride on my childrens teeth. My oldest daughter acidentally swallowed the flouride and this dentist laughed. Gee, even on the toothpaste label it says if flouride is swallowed you should call poision control, so at the very least it should not have been a laughing matter. It’s been two years and my daughter has been diagnosed with neurological damage. I’m not saying it’s directly related to this one incident, however, I can not rule it out. Flouride is known to cause neurological damage and learning diabilities. In countries outside the United States including Japan, Germany and India, flouride is a known toxin. I have read the scientific literature, studies, talked with scientist and even doctors that all share my opinion about flouride. I can respect that people have different opinions, however, I DO NOT recommend practices that disrespect it’s customers wishes of what procedures they want or don’t want. In some countries in Asia this bully approach may be acceptable, but in my culture IT IS NOT. I’m going to find a dentist that respects it’s customers requests on what procedures they would like to receive. Most dentist I talk with (and most Americans) do not know what flouride is and get their opinions for the American Dental Association. Flouride is something especially dangerous for children, no compentent doctor or dentist that knows what flouride is would put it on childrens teeth!

I never met Dr. Leong, but I went to see different dentist in his office. First day, I was satisfied, but I called the office to ask if my son can have food before he comes in and few other questions, but the receptionist who works there, she was rude over the phone and didn’t answer my questions in professional way. I always thought that receptionist deals with patients directly at the front, so they should train their receptionist better.

I have gone to Dr. Leong’s office since I was in the first grade (I’m in college now) and I have never had a bad experience. When I initially went, I had a severe phobia of dentists, and fought tooth and nail (as he and many of the hygienists and receptionists can attest to) every step of the way. I had several oral surgeries, and as he reminded me today, he used to have to do my cleanings in the waiting room, because that was as far as he could get me to move! Dr. Leong and his staff have always been incredibly patient with me, and I couldn’t have asked for a better dentist. All of his technology is up to date, and it makes the experience very easy.

We went to Dr. Leong with my child for a few years and finally changed. I can’t really say he or the office was bad, but I felt he was too impatient with my kid, who has some special needs, so we chose Dr. Leong based on recommendations and his «certificate» for dealing with special-​needs kids. My child didn’t really like people poking in his mouth, and he was impatient with him and chewed him out a few times, which, of course, led to him disliking dental trips. He wouldn’t sit still for a whole-​mouth x-​ray, and Dr. Leong acted like he had never heard of such a thing. I have a hard time seeing him as being a pediatric dentist, much less one certified to treat special needs kids. And the other comment about getting associate doctors was also true, and one we had was as impatient as he was with my child.

we have been with Dr. Leong for almost 4 years now.
Recently we had to find a new doctor.
4 years ago he was good with latest technology (with laser fixing cavities). However with growth of business, he kept hiring inexperienced dentists. Even I adamantly request for him, we ended up still with the new dentist. The first one broke the leg of the tooth when she took out my daughter’s baby front tooth. She insisted to take out the rest without further anethesia, that last for 1 hour ! My daughter now have phobia about dentist.
Since we didn’t know any better doctor, we decided to stay with only Dr. Leong. We thought he is safe. Here we go again, we insisted to have only Dr. Leong and office called us the night before the appointment. So I thought it is just cleaning perhaps it is OK with the 2^nd new dentist.
She is inexperienced and claimed there are 3 cavities. My daughter didn’t have cavities for 4 years sudden all these new ‘discoveries’ make me decide to seek 2^nd opinion. Of course it confirmed to be false alarm.
Also the assistant has to re-​take x-​ray several times (6 times !!!).
My opinion about Dr. Leong: he may have the skill. But no heart nor time for patient. He keeps hiring inexperienced dentist and assistant definitely turn us away.

We had a great experience at Dr. Leong’s Office. The office is very kids friend and not only did we get an appointment right away the front desk was very helpful getting the x-​ray from the other office. I’m so glad that we found this office because the staff and doctors are super friendly and the Doctors are very much qualified.
