Lima & Campagna Sunnyvale Mortuary

Don and Joe both excellent. Very supportive during difficult times. Thank goodness for them!

Lima is a family run business who were more than accommodating and made the services run as smooth as possible on very short notice.
Don, the Director was the main contact and Maria and Tyler were alternates when Don wasn’t available. The staff were pleasant, helpful and professional. We couldn’t thank the staff enough for being there for the family.

I don’t typically write reviews on Unilocal but am happy and honored to provide my first one to Lima in Sunnyvale.
There are so many things I want to include but for the sake of brevity I will start by saying the service we received was incredibly professional, clean, supportive and accommodating: we, as a family, couldn’t have asked for anything more or better for our beloved grandmother.
We had numerous changes to the original plans but they were accommodated with complete understanding and care. Our plan was complicated by the fact that we wanted to visit our church on our way to the crematory to hold a brief service, and Joe and team pulled it off without a hitch and made possible for us to create an experience that we can treasure forever.
The facility was clean and very well equipped, and we were able to proceed with a funeral that all of us wanted for my grandmother. Also, Joe and team were very sensitive to the cultural differences and again were super accommodating.
I never thought I would say this about a Funeral Home/​Mortuary but finding Lima was like finding a good doctor or a hair dresser… once you find that right person, you never want to leave them.
THANK YOU again Joe and team at Lima for all of your help to create such treasured memories for our family.

Called the mortuary for prices and a young gentlemen quoted prices starting with the most expensive. He did not first find out what our situation was about and provided services that were not appropriate for our situation. Prices were sky high. Got a much much lower price from another mortuary instead.

Let’s be honest — no one wants to be the customer of a mortuary, and usually at the time when one needs to be, one is in no shape to spot a scam.
After calling three competitors, I went with Lima and Campagna for the following reasons:
— family owned business, not owned by a large conglomerate
— funeral directors are compassionate and do not try to up-​sell
— there was no mismatch between the quoted price on the phone and the price list (you would be surprised, I caught competitors unable to explain where the extra $ 600 came from in their over-​priced quotes — the audacity!!)
— funeral directors try their best to accommodate any/​all reasonable wishes, even if unconventional or esoteric
— prices are better than most others, for the same quality of service
I did not actually hold a funeral here, I only made use of the most simplistic mortuary, family viewing, and cremation options. All of those services were provided professionally and to my satisfaction. I highly recommend this company.
If you are in the situation where you need to make use of a funeral home, please do some research first. This is a non-​profit that can provide un-​biased information that I found very useful, such as the legal requirements that funeral homes have to comply with, and others that they claim they have to comply with but do not actually (and will try to charge you $$ for):

Let me start by saying what a great family oriented business this Is.
Brings meaning back to the word family again.
They make you feel like things are in good hands and do everything they can to make things right.
So much pride and care taken with everything they do.
They did such a great job with my grandma I’m very thankful for the service they put together for her.
They make what seems to be the end of something just a new beginning to something better.
Worth seeing them first to get things taken care of properly.

These times are not easy. Nor inexpensive.
I found my experience here very professional and afterwards I found out why.
The 3 Principals of the place all have like 30 years of experience by owning their own places with their family names on them, but have since been bought out by a big corporation which charges way more than L & C.
This isn’t Corporate. It’s family-​run by people who really care and know what they are doing.
BILL who oversaw our services exhibited the highest level of professionalism and for those little things that don’t work out as well as planned (our fault) he was able to smooth over things and no one even noticed.
That is a professional who has been around the block a few times.

NOTE: Lima & Campagna is a different entity from the Lima Family corporation. So when you read reviews from them, they are different companies.
I had a great experience with Lima & Campagna. Considering the circumstances of losing my father, they were exactly what we needed at the time. Considerate, honest, fair priced, and respectful of our wishes without business practice pressure. Their sales methods were «Offering» services instead of «Upselling» you into them. Not at any time did I feel pressured or obligated to purchase anything. All prices were available on a price list that came with their packet, so there were no surprises. Once we had selected everything, they went over line by line to confirm it was exactly what we needed.
We worked with Don and Maria who were both VERY helpful. During the consultation they had helpful ideas and did a lot of background checking making it easy for us to just honor my father instead of worrying about thinking of everything. Luckily they asked if my father was in the military service. We didn’t realize they would come out and performs Taps for him with the flag ceremony.
On the day of service everything was prepared, clean, organized in every detail, and was flawlessly executed. I would recommend their services and honesty as a good company to use.

Well used and well known, this mortuary was the place suggested to me when my father passed away. Not knowing what to do upon his death, I asked the police officer what the next step was and he suggested I get my father’s body picked up ASAP by a mortician.
I was informed it was free to transfer my father’s body if I chose to change mortuaries but little did I know it would cost me ~$ 1,000!!! Much higher than some other places I’ve researched around the area. The employees won’t tell you that up front even though they should be obligated to. Even before this worst time of my life, my career was in the pits. I couldn’t get a good job and was making $ 11 an hour. I could have been collecting unemployment like a loser, but I wanted to be productive and contribute and pay my taxes. How does life repay me? My father is taken away from me, and I get stuck dealing with this absurd holding fee. Way too much when I compared prices with others.
I’m not going to give bad reviews, because they were professional and courteous. But I’m certainly not going to give good reviews because their prices are inflated and wont do what they aren’t forced to do by law.
One of these things should be to expose all the potential fees up front like the transfer fee (or at least lower it to help with our needs). It is a way to obligate you to stick with them even if it costs more when you are most vulnerable and can’t think straight.
This practice is commonplace among mortuaries, and that is very unfortunate. Especially when you don’t have a lot of money. In my case, no money.
If you have access to funds, by all means go with Lima Family of Sunnyvale. If not, you should seriously consider going elsewhere. I would recommend Bay Area Mortuary Services. Even after all the fees paid to Lima & Campagna, my services were MUCH CHEAPER, and without compromising quality and professionalism. BAMS is a much smaller family run mortuary with limited resources, but they are much cheaper and affordable for those who aren’t as blessed.
Information/​Things learned from my experience:
* Lima & Campagna is not associated with the other Lima Family Mortuaries in the area. They are independent from them after parting ways years ago.
* Funerals are extremely and painfully expensive.
* Nobody is going to plan a funeral if a death is sudden and unexpected. You will learn the hard way, and the learning process will be crammed down your throat.
* The mortuary business is just that. A business. Most of them are for-​profit companies, and although they might care for you, bottom line is they still want to (and will) make money.

Arranging for my Father’s sudden death was traumatizing. Surrounded by sheriffs and various medical personnel, Lima was the first place to come to mind when the coroner released my Father’s body. As a 45 year native to Cupertino, they have always been there, so they must be doing something good all these years. It just felt right for Lima to be the one to take care of Popz.
Don’t let whomever answers the phone at the after hours exchange put you off. The man and woman who arrived at our house after midnight were very kind and professional. I was dreading the gurney wheels going over the threshold of the front door but was kept busy enough that I didn’t even hear the drivers leave.
At the mortuary, we were asked what type of arrangements we had in mind, but were never at any time pressured to ‘upgrade’ as our simple requests were made.
Lima took care of everything quickly, competently and compassionately, and made a difficult time less stressful and time-​consuming. Thank you Lima !
