History

Established in 1957.

The Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary was founded in Mountain View, CA by Joseph and Sue Cusimano in 1957. Since that time, we have been providing exceptional personal service to the families of all faiths in the communities in the Santa Clara Valley, including Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and San Jose.

Whether a family wants a full service funeral with burial in a cemetery or simple burial or cremation, the level of service remains the same. We take great pride in satisfying the needs of the families we serve, and treating them with the dignity and respect they expect in coming to us during a difficult time in their lives.

The Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary is still independent and family-​owned and managed (by Matt Cusimano and Sherri Cusimano), and is committed to providing the highest level of personal service that the Cusimano Family is known for throughout the churches and communities of Santa Clara Valley.

Business Owner

Sherri Cusimano:

A licensed CA Funeral Director. Sherri is the president of the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, and the daughter of Joe and Sue. She was born in CA, and attended Elementary School and High School in Mtn. View; she also attended CSU at Chico. Sherri has been part of several presentations on Funeral Service in the Diocese of San Jose and is expert in prearranging funerals.

Matthew Cusimano:

A licensed CA Funeral Director. Matt is the mortuary manager. He is the son of Joe and Sue. He attended Elementary School and High School in Mtn. View; Foothill College in Los Altos, CSU San Jose (B.A.), and Stanford University (M.F.A.). He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and is a Past President of the Mtn. View Rotary Club; he’s supportive of the M.V. Firefighters, and has worked with the M.V.P.D. Peace Officer’s Association, helping create a recognition card project and «Cops ‘n’ Gobblers,» a Thanksgiving assistance day for families in Mtn. View.

I called several mortuaries before choosing Cusimano’s. In the initial phone call, Matt Cusimano listened to the situation and provided options and suggestions rather than reeling off a price list. The entire experience, from a first meeting through the funeral Mass and burial service, was top notch. In the process, I met Dan, Eric and Sherry — all of whom were kind, courteous and supportive. My aunt looked beautiful in the casket (no weird, heavy pancake makeup), the casket itself was lovely and reasonably priced, the folks at Cusimano’s were flexible and thoughtful, and they put together very nice remembrance cards. They also knew the celebrants in the area, and were familiar with the chapel at Villa Siena where the funeral Mass was held. They took care of everything quietly and respectfully, including transportation of the casket and a graveside service at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, where my aunt was buried. Everything went as planned. I highly recommend Cusimano’s.

Sadly my 96 year old father passed away on Dec 14th, as dad was a Boston native we had to plan two services, a funeral Mass here and a service/​interment in Boston. Dan Martin was very helpful, organized transportation and worked with the east coast funeral director to ensure that we were able to have dad ‘home’ for Christmas. Dan was very professional and compassionate, he took care of all the details, he was a great help to us during this sad time.

I lost my roommate in a traffic accident and a friend referred Cusimanos when I was searching a funeral home. I worked with Dan. He was professional and he did everything he could to make sure we could send her body overseas as quick as possible. Good people, reasonable prices but most important thing is they care about you and your loss. Highly recommended.

With the losses of my wife’s parents and now my Dad, we have used three different funeral homes. Our recent experience with Cusimano’s was by far the best (the other two rate 1 and 4 stars in my mind). They were very respectful of the family and helpful with suggesting options while planning the service. They also worked hard to find a casket that my Mom felt was just right.
In response to the 1 star review submitted for this business, I am asking myself after meeting at least six of the employees here, what did the reviewer say to elicit a response that seems so out of character for this business?

I worked with Ed Sandmeier and he is professional and courteous. He always updated us by phone and email on where things were in terms of paperwork of the death certificate signing and logistics of the everything. He does not try to sell us anything that we don’t need and finds ways that can save the family money where possible. He speaks in a sincere tone and is easy to work with in person and on the phone. I am glad that I worked with Ed and he made the whole process much easier.
The only thing I don’t like about the Mortuary is that it has a perfume smell in the office and the first driveway entrance from El Camino is for opposite traffic.

I used Cusimano’s when we lost my husband 2 years ago. It was a very very difficult time. Cusimano’s handled everything with such dignity and grace it is difficult to put into words how grateful I am. My husband got sick and everything happened so fast I asked our oldest son to decide which funeral home we would use. He said after talking to Cusimanos he did not bother to call anyone else. He said he knew instantly that Cusimano’s was the one. And I understand why. I think of my husbands passing often and to this day, feel 100% confident in the services provided by the Cusimano family, they did a beautiful job for my family and my beloved. This family is doing exactly was they were put on this earth to do. What a gift it is to not have a single regret about the arrangements and the execution of his wishes.

I never thought I would be reviewing a funeral home — power of denial perhaps? — but Cusimano was great. Sherri Cusimano handled my mother’s arrangements with genuine kindness and empathy. What we wanted was very simple, and Sherri gave us honest, direct advice with no attempt to «upsell».
As I am sure is true of all of their clients, we were going through a difficult time for which we were largely unprepared. Cusimano took great care of us and my mother’s arrangements.

The kindness and professionalism shown to me and my family was completely and utterly the best. The Cusimanos have provided the services for my grandparents, father and now my mother. They were attentive to our needs, offered suggestions when appropriate and went the extra mile on a few key issues with my church. The paperwork, legwork and all else went smoothly. My Mother received the most beautiful rosary and funeral I have ever witnessed. There is no reason to use anyone else. Thank you Cusimano family.

They lack basic courtesy and empathy for grieving families. We arrived early (only an hour and 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time) and were left standing outside the locked funeral home in the rain along with the florists who had also arrived early to set up the flower arrangements.
When contacted, the funeral director had the nerve to yell at family members on the phone, saying he doesn’t have to be there until half hour before the scheduled time!
When told of this, the florists couldn’t believe it either. And half hour before was exactly when he bothered to arrive with no apologies whatsoever, as if being an hour or so early to allow for setup was NOT what families should expect as part of their «services.»
Avoid this place, even if it’s last minute arrangements with few choices.

Used Cusimano services for my husband’s funeral. They handled all the details per my directions. At the viewing I had some of our church choir members perform from which my husband was a member as well.
My husband was a Vietnam Veteran and they took care of all the details for a beautiful military service from flag draped coffin, to taps in the cemetery, to the folded flag presented to me by Navy soldiers that kneeled before me and my children during the presentation.
Funeral was expensive, $ 11,000.00 but well worth it to me as I laid my husband to rest in the honorable way that he deserved and also in a way that allowed me to close the chapter and the book of our life together.

I never thought I would write this type of review but they deserve it. My mom just past away on Sept. 30, 2009 and it was totally unexpected. But Matt Cusimano made this whole process for my entire family so much easier. He knows his business and he definitely knows what he is talking about. He is a very honest, sincere and caring man and I totally respect that. He never once got irritated for all of our questions and spent a lot of time with us planning out my my mom’s service. This poem touched me…
My father passed away last January 5,2009.he was only 69 years old.
My father was never bedridden nor in a long time hospitalization. Arrangement (funeral plan) was never discuss.
When he died that day… we were scrambling for a place… mortuary, services, etc… Thank goodness for this place. with the help of Dan Martin of The Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, he made it easy for us. They handled every detail of what is expected… obituary, viewing, church, flowers, etc…
