Kelly’s Stump Removal

Kelly was great to work with. He and his team were skilled in removing 5 stumps (1 of which was 2−½ feet across). I was especially happy that he took precautions to ensure no chips hit my house or windows. Definitely a great service — and a nice guy.

I had hired a relative of a friend to trim my tree and haul the debris. They trimmed the tree, but left two huge piles of debris blocking the driveway and out in the street for over 24 hours. They did not return phone calls. Finally on a Friday evening my landscaper recommended I call Kelly’s to see if they would come on a Saturday to remove the debris. Kelly’s office /​phone staff was very kind and worked hard to schedule their team on Saturday AM to come out, chip up the debris and haul it away. I called the original tree trimmer and left a voice mail advising them that I had hired another company to remove the debris and would be deducting that cost from what I owed them. Well, miracle of miracle, the debris disappeared after dark on a Friday night. I then had to call Kelly’s back and cancel. What a nightmare!!! Thank-​you Kelly’s for being such a professional company and being willing to help me out of a mess. I will call you first from now on!

We used the services of the Kelly’s Stump removal again this morning. All that I wrote before still holds true. These guys are the best, competitive pricing, they know what they are doing, show up, get it done, clean up.

We had a stump from a dead willow tree we needed to remove and planned to replant nearby. Because the stump was In a difficult spot– bottom of flagstone patio on slope and hemmed in by fence — we needed to find someone who had both the tools and experience to remove. In addition our access through the backyard was constrained. After researching several companies and reading reviews on Unilocal and other sites, we decided to go with Kelly’s because of several reasons (several mentioned in other user reviews): he was quick to call back and asked us to send pictures so that he could give us an estimate (we were time constrained), he asked a lot of questions regarding if we were replanting and where, and he was very precise about the equipment he would use and what we could expect from his work. And he acted like he really wanted the business — others I had to call multiple times to get a call back. His price was fair — not the cheapest — but his work was great. Very happy with his services and would highly recommend.

Kelly quoted me $ 350 to grind three fairly closely located birch stumps. His crew came out when I was not home and did the job. I then received a bill for $ 425 which I paid. I am now trying to plant a tree in that location and as I dig I am finding that the stumps were ground down only about 4″ and then basically covered with top soil and mulch. Unfortunately the check is already cashed.
If you use him (don’t) get your quote in writing and make sure he committs on paper how deep he will grind and if any roots nearby also need to be ground down.

After researching several companies, reading reviews, and getting estimates from three stump removal companies, I hired KELLY’S STUMP REMOVAL and was extremely pleased with the quality of service and reasonable price.
The office staff was very friendly and helpful. They swiftly followed up on my request for verification of insurance coverage and also answered a number of questions by phone and by e-​mail.
There were three stumps, and each presented a different challenge, which Kelly addressed while preparing the estimate. He noted that one stump (an elm) had the ability to regenerate from the roots, even though the tree had been cut down. After describing how far he would grind down, he advised me to spray Round-​Up on any sprouts that might pop up in the future. That was really helpful info since I’d already seen how fast a volunteer elm can grow.
Because I was considering planting a new tree, he suggested grinding deeper where the second stump was located since it was the furthest from the power lines. He offered suggestions on different drought-​tolerant trees that might fit the location: varieties that wouldn’t grow too tall or wide, given the proximity of the power lines.
I was extremely pleased with the quality of work. Despite all the wood chips flying around the yard, the crew left the grass area surrounding the stumps phenomenally clean and used a leaf blower to quickly dust off the patio. They also stacked the larger pieces of wood on our wood pile and neatly piled the finer staff to one side. The latter was an unexpected bonus and was great for mulching several garden beds to reduce moisture loss, act as a weed barrier, and protect plants during temperature extremes.
If you have trees that need care, Kelly and his wife own a second business called «The Tree Team». Jim Lewis, a trained arborist, oversees tree care and tree services. I have every confidence that The Tree Team would offer the same quality service as Kelly’s Stump Removal.

Kelly is terrific! He’s very responsive (called back right away) and was able to get the work done within four days of when I called. My job was tricky because access to the yard was very limited and once in the garden there were many plantings that couldn’t be disturbed. They did a PERFECT job of tarping the garden, moving patio furniture around, removing the two stumps, hauling out dirt, cleaning the work site — it was pristine as if nothing had been disturbed.
Then I noticed one more stump and beading with sweat he was happy to get that one too. He also noticed that a tree needed trimming (the branches were brushing the roof) and it’s an HOA so I let them know. I cannot say enough good about Kelly and his team and would hire them again in a flash. He’s very personable as well. Highly recommended.

Kelly is great. We had a heritage Black Walnut that was recently removed and Kelly came out gave us an estimate and did the work all in the same day. These guys know their stuff and are efficient, well priced and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

They were very professional and easy to work with. I didn’t even have to come home to meet with them. It was all taken care of over the phone and when I came home the stump was gone. Much more professional than another guy I tried to work with. And cheaper.

We have had Kelly remove several trees from our yard and been more than satisfied with their work– until recently. For the most recent job, Kelly’s crew members removed a large tree that was close to our new concrete patio. This crew did not seem as professional as previous crews. They ended up irreparably damaging our patio, in all likelihood by throwing large tree trunk pieces too close to the patio. Because tons of branches and leaves went down first, it was not easy to see where pieces of trunk were landing. Once we saw all the new cracks in the patio, we immediately contacted Kelly. He responded to our complaint right away, even came out twice to inspect the damaged area. But he did not see them work and his crew members deny any wrongdoing. He sided with his workers. We paid top dollar to go with Kelly, a reputable, licensed and insured company and received zero compensation, only a break on future tree services. We declined.

Kelly and his crew have removed 2 stumps for me over the years — the last one was a serious endeavor, being about 2.5 ft across and needing to be ground down 1.5 ft or more. Kelly knocked it out solo; the man knows what he’s doing. Friendly, fair, fast.

Called Kelly around 2 pm and he answered his phone right away. Said he would send out his guy, Gil, at 4:30 to give an estimate and maybe do the job. Gil was here at 4:20 pm, gave me a fair estimate, did the work and was gone (leaving site clean) in about 20 minutes. Gil was a super friendly fellow, as was Kelly. Would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Kelly came out the same day we called him for a quote, and Gil came out a few days later. He patiently answered all my questions and showed me the stump removal step by step since I wanted to understand what was going on. These guys were seriously fast and efficient! I do highly recommend calling the day before or morning of your appointment to make sure everyone is still on the same page. I’m glad I did, for peace of mind.

After their fine work, our tree stump is gone and lots of mulch to go around all over our garden. Yay!

Kelly came out in the evening a few hours after I left a message requesting an estimate. His quote was reasonable and he was able to send someone out the next day to do the job.

I looked around for a stump removal service and Kelly’s was the first one to answer. I was impressed by the friendliness of the receptionist and later Kelly on the phone. I felt the quote was fair and favorably reasonable. I was also impressed by how fast Kelly made an appt for a guy to come do the service.
So one of his crewman came over and grinded down the stump. I returned in the evening that day to discover that his crew guy inadvertently hit a sprinkler pipe and destroyed one of the sprinkler heads. I called Kelly about this. He seemed a tad bit defensive at first. Implying that I didn’t proactively make it known to him I had a sprinkler system on my lawn. However he quickly and willingly told me he would come over the next day (Saturday) to see the problem.
Kelly came over in person the next day and fixed the situation. He was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. I can see that he really wanted to make sure that everything was fixed and working to my satisfaction. He replaced the sprinkler head and glued in a new pipe to replace the one that broke. Kelly did all this without any kind of drama or resistance about who was liable or who could’ve been at fault for the mishap. I was very happy and impressed with that.
Overall I had an outstanding experience with Kelly and services. It’s comforting to know that there are still honest businesses out there that really care about the customer and their satisfaction. I appreciated Kelly making the effort to come back the next day on a Saturday to remedy the problem. I read the other review here about Kelly being «wild and hyper», but I feel he’s just passionate about his work. At least that’s the impression I got when conversing with him. I would use Kelly again and refer him to others as well. I would perhaps recommend that you flesh out and be thorough with all the details of your situation to avoid any mishaps.

I could not be happier with Kelly’s, emailed them on Friday, they called back to confirm and the next morning Kelly called to be at my house at 11am, at 10:55am Kelly show up at my door quoted us a more than reasonable price to remove all 12 Yucca Palm stumps in front and backyard, the smallest stump was a foot dia the biggest was 4feet dia. Kelly gave me a lifetime guaranteed for no regrowth, I gave him the ok to start on the spot and his crews showed up 30mins. later
One of his crew Thomas spotted another stump that was hidden away and took cared it as well.
we left the house for 3.5 hours and when we returned all the stumps were gone.
Kelly stop by later that evening to collect and he walked around the front and back to inspect and hosed down my walls and fences, where his crews had missed.
the big jobs are expected but it is always those little details that counts…

I called a bunch of places and this was the first ones who picked up. They showed up later that day, gave me a reasonable price, and got it done the next morning. Plus Thomas was a good guy. What more could you ask for!!!

We used him a while back to remove a number of smail to medium size stumps.
Kelly is an interesting guy. He leans toward the ‘wild and hyper’ side, so this worried me at first. He’s a little difficult to deal with, and his staff had some trouble being on the same page with the boss at times, which made scheduling the work more challenging than it should have been.
Nevertheless, the results were about as good as I could have expected, so you should be in good hands.
