Alphaurax Computer Repair & Support

I was incredibly impressed with the service and care I received from Alphaurax. I had attempted to replace the fan on my Macbook Pro by myself, and detached a few fragile wire connections from the logic board. I thought I had ruined the connections for good but this was a very easy fix for the experts at this place. They were very polite, and walked me through each step, and explained the simple fix, so I didn’t have to go to any unnecessary trouble, should this happen again.
They even called to update me on the repair process, and ensure how I wanted to proceed, and were transparent about costs throughout the process. My computer was repaired the SAME DAY and was ready for pickup. Super-​affordable and helpful, I will be returning here for all my computer repair needs.

I had not had any repair work done in Queens where I moved to a few years ago. My Asus Desktop needed some serious attention. I got on Unilocal and went with Alphaurax. They are excellent. Jin was my tech. He did a fantastic job. The hard drive was dying and the thing was internally a dust mess. Jin got the whole thing done quickly and expertly. He was really easy to talk to and explained things in a very easy to understand way. He kept me updated on the repair as numerous things had to be done in stages. If you need quality work and support go here! You will be happy. I know I am. I have found my new computer repair go to. Sigh of relief!

I really got lucky when I went online to find an independent computer repair person near my home and found Alphaurax. Forget Geek Squad, they are nowhere near as caring and careful and responsive. Han, one of the owners of this business, spent at least 90 minutes listening to my questions and helping me to understand that I didn’t actually need to increase my HP Pavilion laptop’s memory. He did discover that because of years of dust and gunk buildup, the fan was not working and my computer was running way too hot. I left my laptop with him for about 1 ½ hours and then went back for it. He had downloaded a program that I can use to check my computer’s temperature. He had suggested I buy an external hard drive since I haven’t ever backed up anything on my laptop in the 7 years I’ve had it, so I did and when I came back for my now-​clean laptop, he showed me how to use it. He also solved a problem with my Firefox browser (or what I thought was a problem, but it was just that Firefox had changed how you save web pages and articles to Pocket). He also showed me that the necessary Windows security updates had been downloaded, when I thought they weren’t. All of this only cost me $ 80. And they give you a three-​month warranty on their repairs.
The one little problem that I found when I brought my laptop home, was that keys on my keyboard were sticking because cleaning out the dust had pushed some of it onto the connector to my keyboard. I brought it back the next day and Jin, who also works at Alphaurax, easily fixed that problem. Jin and Han are really nice people and their work is fantastic.
By the way, their business is in the back of a hardware store (they lease the space from the hardware store owner) so if you go to them, just be aware that you will have to walk into the hardware store and go through to the back.

This is the 2^nd time I’ve used Jin and Quan’s services to repair my computer and they are so prompt and reliable that you can set your watch to them. They diagnosed my computer problem as the hard drive needing to be replaced and it needed an overheating repair. I got a beautiful 1TB upgrade and my computer is now dust free and fast. They are patient to answer all of your questions and explain the reasoning behind the repairs. They brought my desktop computer that was practically on life support that constantly clicked and hissed back to life and now it is a quiet and smooth machine. I will only use them for all of my computer repair needs. They have reasonable rates as well and came on time to pick up and to drop off my computer.

Great, thorough work. Honest. Fantastic prices more than worth an 1 hour drive.

My Dell laptop wouldn’t start-​up and did a 7 beep. Researched it and was not up to all the You Tube recommendations and attempting to buy parts and do it myself. I didn’t want to go to Geek Squad as they are the only service I’ve used before. I found these guys searching «laptop repair, Sunnyside.»
They didn’t free diagnostic and gave their thoughts about what the problem could be and the pricing. They called me when they figured it out (graphics card went bad) and confirmed the cost to repair $ 180+ tx.
They are very knowledgable, set the proper expeditions of turn around time, etc and followed through as they promised.
They are in the back of a hardware store so you have to look for them just a little, but it’s a true workshop.
I feel fortunate to have found them.

Please make sure they clarify what is wrong with the computer and what they are replacing/​repairing. They advertise that they do a free diagnostic, but that doesn’t mean much when they’re charging over five times the amount. My cousin took her lenovo z470 laptop to the store after it wouldn’t turn on. They told her that the DC adapter jack was faulty and that they would need $ 150 to fix it. Since she just wanted to get it fixed she was ok with the fee. But a quick google search will tell you that BRAND NEW DC board for the laptop is $ 30-​$ 40. Also note that they never replaced it in the first place, they just fixed it. Even if they replaced it, it would have been a rip off. So make sure you ask specifically what is wrong with your computer, and do a quick google search to see how much it costs

Was skeptical at first since this place is located in the back of a hardware store BUT these guys are wonderful ! Fair pricing and easy to work with. I had a macbook pro with a cracked glass thanks to my lovely 3yr old messing with it without me knowing. Anyways, i was given a fair quote and went with them to fix. Was told it could take 5 – 7 days but i needed the laptop back for use at my job tuesday. They gave me a loaner macbook air until mine was fixed. They very next day it was fixed and fixed properly ! They also knocked off 10 bucks since i paid in cash. AWESOME !!
Keep in mind i was quoted double from apple to fix my cracked screen. NO THANKS ! IF you have a apple or any kind of computer that needs to be fixed then this is the place to go. I will def recommend these guys to family and friends who have computer issues. Good job boys ! Thanks again.

These guys are the most helpful computer repair guys I ever dealt with. I spilled beer on my 6 month old macbook air. The motherboard was fried an I thought i would have to dish out 700 bucks for a new one. What they did was clean my entire computer of liquid damage residue for 129. I was then able to get a new board from apple under warranty. Highly recommend these guys. They really care about their customers.

He Couldn’t find the problem with my computer and then wanted to charge me for like three services to solve a problem that could have been solved by changing my hard drive only. He adds on costs unnecessarily so be careful with that $$$$$

These guys are great! Had my 2011 iMac repaired and hdd changed. Very thorough. I am glad I didn’t have to haul my computer to the city. I am very satisfied with their service. The cost for all the repairs are very reasonable. Reasonable enough to hold on to my iMac until I am ready to get a new one.
Its because of the favorable comments from Unilocal that I sought their service.

Went back to these guys. They seem to be getting busier as Unilocalers do like them.
I have to say I felt the prices this time were a little more steep but I have to look past that as they are running a business and aren’t your buddy coming over to tweak your system.
I did get my pc back quickly (power supply replacment) and when I turn it on now it beeps that my fan is having an error.
When I called them back up he tried to explain (unclearly and rushing) how to adjust my fan speed in the BIOS to possible correct the issue. I tried his unclear instructions and it didn’t work. Now I have an annoying fan error beep on start up that I have to press F1 to ignore. I hope this issue is not serious

Alphaurax called me back and through troubleshooting was able to fix my fan error.

These guys are great! Believe the reviews! They are professional, sincere, hardworking, honest, & know what they are doing.
Their office is easily accessible from Manhattan — #7 train just off the 46^th St subway stop.
My son spilled water on our laptop keyboard & my husband tried to fix it, but the computer then didn’t work correctly.
I took advantage of their Unilocal free estimate. Han instilled such confidence as he clearly knew what he was talking about.
For a reasonable rate, Alphaurax fixed the problem. For some reason though the keyboard didn’t match the original so my typing was off. I called them to let them know and they replaced it again to a keyboard that matched the original without any issue.
Highly recommend!

Was away for a bit of R & R.
Left my laptop unplugged for a week, probably didn’t shut it down either. By way of complaint windows wouldnt engage. Unplug and take battery out. Call dell, trouble shoot for an hour running all diagnostics. No clue what to do next. Unilocal time, seems this is the only place in all of brooklyn and queens thats actually good at and honest at what they do. However they are 45 mins away. Oh well. 40 mins later, in the back of a hardware store, meet Carlos who is super sweet. Plug in computer and voila! Classic case of it doesnt hurt at the doctors office, turns right up. Oh well, guess 5he drive over was enough to drain the battery enough, or my pc is seriously passive aggressive, or the shop is magic like that. All you gotta do is just show up?! Carlos does a thorough tutorial with me about uninstalling unnecessary programs especially antivirals without the slightest hint of sarcasm or other you didnt shut down your laptop normally BS. all for free. super cool, very knowledgeable and kind with sharing that. Thank tipped the man for his time. Basically saved me a hundred or so. All said and done highly recommended and a drive worth taking.

My computer was a piece of crap from the day I bought it, truth be told. So when it deteriorated further I just figured it was getting old, but finally it got to the point where it was unusable and rather than get a new one I figured I’d give these guys a shot.
Turns out my computer had a virus. They were going to remove the virus, but my friend had told me to ask them about changing the operating system since I had Vista (not something they themselves had suggested). I ended up doing just that. The guy I picked my computer up from also took the time to explain to me why I should be using certain programs over others and gave me a little advice on keeping my computer happy.
The price came out to a very cool and breezy $ 96 and my computer is now running fast and problem free. Not too bad!
They did say they would call me but I always ended up calling them. At one point they actually told me they would call me when the computer was ready for pickup. I called the day it was supposed to be ready and they said I could come pick it up at anytime. If it was ready I’m not sure why they didn’t call, but they don’t seem too fond of using the phone.
The only other issue I have is that I had to get all my data backed up, including my bookmarks. Hundreds of bookmarks from one specific folder were simply gone, and I used them pretty frequently so that’s been a major inconvenience.
Overall I’m pleased with the end result, and it was far cheaper than getting a new laptop or even getting a new OS installed elsewhere (hence the 4 stars), but I’d be wary of letting them back up my data in the future.

These guys are really great. I took my Dell Laptop (running Windows 7) to them to fix the following issue: user profile service stopped downloading which kept laptop from logging into Windows.
The issue was probably caused by my stupidity in using registry cleaners.
Warning: avoid this kind of software at all costs. The conflicting software mangled my registry.
However, the problem was fixed while I waited (approx. 30 min.) with alacrity and tremendous courtesy. Well worth the trip from Port Washington to Sunnyside on an LIE jam-​packed with Saturday afternoon traffic.
They are going to move to New Hyde Park… Thank goodness! Much shorter trip for Long Island residents where reputable computer repair is practically non– existent.
In summary, these guys are the real deal… Honest, smart, no nonsense.
I spent 50 bucks and the service was worth twice the cost. Highly recommend.

What can I say that hasn’t been said??? I called these guys up at 9:55 am on the dot (even though they open at 10:00 am — perhaps they’re dilly dallying around until opening…) No answer. I hang up. Exactly at 10:00 I receive a call on my cell and I’m thinking, «Is this the number i just called?» Yep. They were calling me back even though I didn’t leave a message. From there everything was smooth sailing. Needed a memory upgrade for my 13″ MacBook Pro which was purchased in 2011. They took the time to explain EVERYTHING to me. I almost wanted to say, «I don’t care!!! Just make it happen!!!» I dropped my laptop off in the morning and it was ready by the end of the day. You can’t beat that with a bat!
But you can tell they really care about their job and making the customer happy. They are very courteous, caring and operate with integrity. They look like two college kids who are renting space in the back of this hardware store so they can make some extra money doing what they do best — Fix computers and make customers happy.

I needed to get my laptop fixed after it crapped out on me again after I had taken it somewhere else. My laptop would frequently overheat and I destroyed by video card. i took it to someplace in jackson heights. They fixed it and threemonths later my laptop was giving the same problem. I brought my laptop to Alphaurax and they not only replace my video card but also installed apps to my laptop to help me avoid it from happening again. I now have an app that tell me the temperature of my laptop and I can control the fan speed on my laptop.
Alphaurax were true professionals. They were extremely nice, friendly, and communicative of what they were doing with my laptop. If I EVER have any problem with any electronic I’ll call these guys first before anyone. Not to mention they price was extremely fair and reasonable. I came here because of Unilocal. I mean their review is PERFECT and theYELP community got it soooooo right with this one.
If you come to the address and see a hardware store don’t be confused. Alphaurax is located in the back of the hardware store so just walk right in and walk straight to the back.

This is simple… they have now fixed 3 laptops for me, all Mac’s. One Mac book pro for work, and two older white mac books. My work Mac book pro needed the connection wires from the hard drive to the motherboard. They could have just changed my hard drive first but they actually tested the connection and that was all it needed. I ended up upgrading my hard drive and it was all a fair price ($ 379.97). Even if I did it myself I would not have saved that much I looked up everything on line totally fair prices.
The other two White mac books needed hard drives. The last one was upgraded from an 80GB to a 500GB (not solid state) for $ 239.53. They transferred all the data and it was like a new laptop.
They are also pretty quick, my work laptop took 3 days since they did not have the connection wire, the other two done in 24 hours.

Not to be redundant, but I LOVE this place. I had two computers with issues– they gave me advice on how to fix one myself, then they took the other one, evaulated it, and fixed it quickly and well. It cost much less than it would at a chain place. Now I almost wish something else would break just so I could go to them again.
Just a heads-​up: They work out of space in the back of a hardware store. So when you find the address, you’ll think you’re in the wrong place, but you just have to walk to the back of the store to find them.
