The Sacred Space in Summerland, California, a couple of miles south of Santa Barbara. It’s a private retreat owned by Jack Herschorn and his wife Rose, and they’re lovely. They hold meditation seminars and have a beautiful garden with rock pools and streams. It’s also where I do my Christmas shopping.

If you believe any parts of the prevailing cosmological theories of the development of the universe «the Big Bang and Varieties of Parallel Universes», then you must also believe that you are part of what happened in the current beginning, and yes you belong here, you’re here, as is all existence.

An amazing thing about life is we come from this planet, not separate from it, not strangers, but are really one with it and need all that it has for us to exist. We need our gravity, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and our social attachments. We are chemically the same as Earth not Mars.

We know there is more to our purpose than mortgages, taxes, work, war, and reproduction. We have the feeling that man is trying to improve the planet with terrible consequences and little success. And yet there is also a deep feeling that our personal existence is meant to be something more than what happens to us between being born and burial. There is a mystery!

This is an amazing store, which everyone should check out at least once. Not solely because of the products that it imports and sells, but because of the people who own it, Jack and Rose. They are always helpful, nice, and are genuinely happy. Their travels are definitely envious, but what they bring back is divine.
It doesn’t matter what religion you practice, or even if you aren’t very religious, because the stores artifacts, items, and tranquility is worth the visit in and of itself.
Plan on spending at least a half hour to an hour to get the full experience and to see all of the gems this store carries.

The place is beautiful, and definitely makes you feel incredibly at peace. I was amazed at the level of lushness there was to the layout of the space, and that you could just sit on these amazing canopied couches and admire your surroundings. Unfortunately my friend and I cut our time there a little short because the woman working made us feel unwelcome and even accused us of doing a photoshoot when were just trying to get a few memorable pics of our summer vacation. FYI according to the signs pics are allowed. We could’ve left the place completely zened out but instead we left annoyed. However, don’t let this review deter you, this place is a must check out!

The store is beautiful, but I want to live in the outdoor sanctuary. It’s so wonderful and peaceful. It’s great that it is on the way back home from Santa Barbara. I had to sit in all the gazebo areas to get the full experience.

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
This is one of the greatest places in Southern California. Yes, it is a store that sells spiritually orientated items but it is so much more than that. From the moment you walk towards the door you are greeted by beautiful statues of the Buddha. Once you are inside there is so many more statues of deities everywhere and the place simply radiates with peaceful, positive energy.
They also have expansive grounds with a pond, a mini waterfall, a Japanese style Zen bridge, and gazebos where you can sit, enjoy the space, and drink the tea that the owners happily provide.
This place is truly a must visit. The owners are so nice, the space is just awesome, and the store has truly unique items.

What an unexpected and delightful experience. Exquisite selections for your own sacred space but the garden out back and the option for a restful tea break in a pavilion makes this place so unique. We stopped in on the first day of our trip and can’t stop thinking about it. Most likely will be headed back there today. What a truly pampering and luxurious experience. Thank you!

Travel to an far away land of peace, quiet and tranquility without the need for a passport or boarding pass. You’ll be greeted by the staff offering tea or water. Accept their invitation, it’s part of the experience. The property is right off the highway and yet feels thousands of miles away. You’ll find a full range of meditative, healing arts including museum quality to unique finds. The space has been lovingly designed with nooks and displays for altars, fountains and elegant décor. Outside are beautiful meandering gardens with places to sit, journal and relax.

The Sacred Space is why I make a stop in Summerland on the way to Santa Barbara. So many beautiful artifacts elegantly displayed. I love to meditate in their outdoor garden and pick up a spiritual item on my way out. It’s calm, serene, peaceful and gorgeous. I have been here with my husband several times, and we even have brought friends with us. Those friends now go on their own for a day trip up the coast. So many great outdoor design ideas as well.

I can really only describe this place as AMAZING.
One cannot help to feel peace and love in a place filled with this much unique beauty.
The outdoor garden is magical, filled with gorgeous stone art, rocks, koi pond and sitting areas.
Inside the store has spiritual items, jewelry, natural stones, all presented with hand written notes of descriptions. The items are gorgeous, many with price tags I will never be able to spend on an item (118,000K on a Buddha for example, but a girl can dream).
I could spend hours looking at every item. There are things here you just will not find everywhere.
And when you purchase something it comes in a hand-​crafted bag!

I never knew that this secret place existed until a friend of mine (Angela R.) mentioned it to me. I had been wanting to come and see it not only with my eyes, but with an open mind and heart.
The entrance to this place is beautiful and when I came in I was greeted by a woman. She asked me if it was my first time in which I replied yes. She said that I could wonder wherever I wanted to and that they had complementary hot tea. I asked for a green tea. They have five different rooms filled with gifts (from precious rocks, metals, deities, statues, paintings, incense, etc. There are doors that take you out to a garden where you can meditate and relax and forget all about the problems in your life and in the world. There is such peacefulness and good energy. Sitting in the different sections of the garden and closing your eyes and listening to the water trickle down a small cascade into a pond, took me to another place. I felt that I was in a different world. Statutes of elephants, Buddha, and many other deities can be found through out the garden.
There is also little books and pens in which people can write anything that they feel, specially positive thoughts of kindness, love, forgiveness, lessons of life, reflections, etc.
I would recommend it to anyone that would like to find balance in their life, a place in which you can relax and could find peace and self-​love. I did not take my phone, but I took a camera; however, I decided not to take pictures because I wanted to remember and savor the images when I close my eyes. I knew that if I took my phone inside I would not be able to enjoy it.
I want to thank the person behind the idea of the Sacred Place and for allowing people to share this place. Such a wonderful experience. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo!

This place really is worth the 5 stars!
For years I would pass by Summerland telling myself next time, next time I wil stop at The Sacred Place. I totally regret not going sooner but I’m so happy I finally stopped! Better late than never right?
As soon as me and my son walked in the door we were captivated by the décor and endless displays of Buddhas, crystals, gems, chakras, Tibetan Buddha statues, jewelry and more…
This place is very spiritual and you feel a sense of calmness and well being as you walk through looking at each display. It will have you mesmerized!
I wanted to buy everything in the store but it is on the pricey side. So if you plan on coming here bring your credit cards because I guarantee you will want to buy something!
Aside from all the beautiful merchandise there is a secret paradise in the back where you will lose yourself in the tranquillity of the landscape. I say lose because I didn’t want to leave or be found! I could have camped out there all night lol.
The seating areas are beautifully decorated and available for you to sit back, relax, and take in the surroundings. Complimentary tea or water are also provided if you wish. There is also a small journal on the table to write your thoughts in. It’s filled with writings of many visitors that have stopped by. Pretty cool!
I look forward to making this my go to place whenever I need some peace of mind and calm in my life from all the hustle and bustle.

A welcoming store to spend some time in. Everything and all things Bhudda and spirituality are here. This is not a Bhudda retreat and the owner may not even be a Buddhist, who cares? it is a place which one can obtain these items in a one stop shop… pretty much anything, you can think of, it is crammed full. The Sacred Sace is not a place to go to for enlightenment go to Tassajara for that though you can design a perfect backdrop for this. Set designers have it made here The people at the desk have a kind demeaner. Here, you will find that special something that’s hard to find, most definitely.. It has nothing to do with why you come here, it’s a store. It had beautiful meandering pathways which adds to it’s ambiance. You can get a lot of ideas on how to do Bhudda– esque gardens, sitting areas, temples, fountains, plant designs, cloth etc etc.
You might want to bring A LOT of change otherwise you might me able to get what you want.
Glad I stopped in and will again because I know I didn’t see everything. Oh, they have huge statues here as well, for your huge mansions.

Namaste. My husband & I decided to take a day trip to Santa Barbara. I have been telling my husband about The Sacred Space and how I want to visit sometime. Most of the time I think my hubby have selective hearing. I think I may have under estimated him because we made a quick stop to Summerland before SB. I had no idea where we were going until he pulled up in a little corner street and I was ELATED! I must have taken so many pictures outside. We were welcomed as we entered the Sacred Space. We were offered hot tea. There are so many spiritual items from all over the world. I took my time looking at the sacred statues and crystals. In the back there is a beautiful sacred garden where you can sit, meditate, journal or just relax. The garden gave me inspiration and ideas of how I may want to create my own sacred garden in my backyard someday.
Price point here for the alter statues and crystals are on the pricey side. If you are looking for a specific statue for your sacred space at home that you cannot find else where, it’s worth buying it here.
The Sacred Space does offer spiritual workshops that you can attend. I signed up for their newsletter and that is how I am in the know of what is being offered here. This place is worth the visit that’s for sure. I have been itching to return. It’s been way over due.

The small and intimate outdoor garden is a must see and easily earns The Sacred Space two stars. The beautiful and thoughtful interior décor adds another star.
However, I would recommend purchasing your alter statues, incense and decorative items elsewhere. I find their prices are consistently 300%-400% higher for the exact item found at other specialty retail spaces. That isn’t a typo, 300%-400%. There’s a reason pictures of multi-​million dollar-​earning actors/​actresses, etc. are hung all through their retail space.
Putting that aside, it’s definitely worth a visit to the beautiful garden to experience meditative reflection and relaxation — you won’t be disappointed.

An amazing place to visit! It truly feels like you’re in another world when you come to the Sacred Space. Their shop is filled with spiritual items all over the world. They have different rooms, each with their own theme and wonderful scent. They have staff who are very knowledgeable and accommodating. What an amazing place/​space :) I didn’t want to leave. I think we were there for close to 2 hours. I met the owner, a very nice man and the staff were so hospitable. I can’t wait to visit it again :)
