I bought a groupon deal for this restaurant despite the conflicting reviews. We went there on a saturday afternoon(the first attempt) only to find out that they only open at 5pm, which is unusual. It was a pretty far drive too. We wanted to see how this restaurant really was, so that night we made another trip out there around 8pm. My table was the only guest there. Customer service — we were immediately greeted by a server. He checked on us several times to see how we like the meal and if there’s anything else he could get for us. I give it a 4⁄5 for service Food — It was ok. We ordered off the«all night happy hour» menu. I was most impressed by the Sasu Tuna Tataki. The flavor and quality of the fish was good. We also ordered a bunch of rolls, but we weren’t too impressed. I did notice that the rolls have ALOT of rice compared to the amount of fish or core ingredients. Ambiance — It has low-lights(good for an evening meal). This place is good if you want a more intimate dinner Price — their regular menu is comparable to other sushi restaurants. The happy hour menu prices are pretty good

I won’t be back here dining again. I read some positive reviews and some negative reviews before I came here. the verdict is that I don’t like the food here. The biggest turn off was almost everything is spicy. We ordered snapper and spider roll, and we could hardly distinguish one roll from the other, and it tastes the same. No originality. The only edible item to me was the eel roll, hence the two stars. I asked the waitress which item is not spicy, and ordered the deep fried smoked salmon, and the thick oily breading on this roll made the review one star. The worst part of the dining experience was when we indicated to the waitress that I didn’t like the food, she just said«yeah» smiled and walked away. I left this restaurant feeling hungry.

The food is great. The Harry Roll and the Bubba Roll is a must try. My kids hate sushi but after coming here they really like it. The service wasn’t that fast but it was still faster than most sushi restaurants and it was worth the wait. The owner is also very friendly. I would definitely recommend this to others. Also i recently learned that there has been an owner change so all the bad reviews are from the old sasu sushi. The new owner, Harry, provides good food and great prices.

Great sushi for a reasonable price! The owner is always friendly and knows a great deal about food allergies and will direct you to rolls meeting your needs, or create a roll depending on what you’re feeling like. The miso soup is delicious, full of tofu and seaweed, and not too salty like it often is at other places. The service isn’t always speedy quick, but I don’t mind because I like to eat out to have conversations and relax, not necessarily get in and out as fast as I can. I would definitely recommend them to others!

Cute, small, neighborhood sushi bar with good food! we tried the jalapeño poppers as appetizers: comes with cream cheese and kani(fake crab meat) inside. it was very delicious! Comes with 4 pcs per order the rolls were very good, but like all the reviews had said, expensive for the portion and location(next to Randall’s — in a strip mall). Each roll on average were $ 9-$ 14. As dessert, we had the fried cheesecake, sprinkled with powdered sugar and chocolate syrup — soooooooooo good! definitely a must try! over all, i gave this place 4 stars because: — delicious rolls and foods — a little too pricey — intimate and small quiet setting

Really great sushi and awesome selection of rolls. If you can dream it they will make it. Super nice staff, with a great atmosphere. I just wish they had not closed the Westheimer location.

Most overpriced, underwhelming sushi I have ever had, and I’ve had a lot! I hate to give negative reviews, but the fish quality was bleh, the portions slightly tiny for a lot of $$$ and the sushi rice was just … Off. Hard and cold and sour instead of pleasantly rice vinegar flavored like it should be. Rolls were the same– ok size, overpriced, bad rice and sub par fish. Grilled salmon fried rice was ok, but pricey as well. Disappointing. A lot of regulars who clearly come to get tipsy before they eat and receive their bill. Good atmosphere… What a shame. I was super disappointed and like another reviewer, had to eat some where else after. Bad sushi makes me sad. =(

The food was good. We went with a groupon. I got the low mei and it was good size amount of food. The sushi prices weren’t that cheap. Like I said we had a groupon so it was okay. The only problem I had was the waitress on both occasions we ordered she gave us attitude on ordering the food and giving the check. She was not friendly at all. Both times she said«That’s it?» very sarcastically! We ordered 30 $ worth of food. C’mon you don’t like the groupon site… then don’t advertise on it. She was not nice at all. The second waitress was very nice. She helped us with water refills and asked how we were doing. We also tipped very well on both times too. So I don’t know if that is how she is or what not. But beware of this server.

So, not much to say about this place. It’s almost like any other Sushi place in town. The service is kinda slow but I went on a week night and they only had 1 waiter and 1 Sushi roller. But I hear they’re very busy on the weekend and you need a reservation. Maybe there’s more help on the weekends and service is faster. But…The portion sizes are HUGE compared to almost every other place I’ve been. And they have great specialty rolls. I would definitely recommend trying the place :)

My hubby and I went here bc we had a Groupon. Nice interior, small but neat and nicely decorated. The owner is very nice. My beef is with the HH menu. The prices SUCK. Ummmm $ 8.95 for rolls in NOTHH prices! Seriously– every roll on there is $ 8.95 on HH! I’m guessing the owner has never been to Miyakos or Aka Sushi house and seen their prices. So– we skipped the rolls. There are about 6 selections of actual raw fish on HH for $ 1.50– we got escolar, salmon, and unagi– which were fresh and good. We got«lobster balls» for $ 4– which were not lobster. You know the fish balls you get in soup at Vietnamese places? These are it– battered and fried. Hey– I’m asian and you can’t pull the wool over on my eyes on that one– menu should be re-labeled. I expected lobster! Then we got spicy tuna balls for $ 5 which was spicy tuna rolled in panko bread crumbs. Mediocore. So– glad I tried it 50% off with a Groupon but I won’t be back. I’ll go to Azuma if I’m in Sugarland. Also– there were 2 separate b-day tables of 10 people each on a Friday night– both tables were highschool students. So if you are looking for a low key dining experience– look somewhere else. They were doing shots, yelling, etc. Obnoxious to say the least in a restaurant the size of my living room…

So, I have been going to this restaurant for the past 5years??? It used to be an amazing sushi place! My family and I would go here once a month because we just LOVED the shinoda roll! It tasted wonderful! However, as years went by, the sushi did not taste as… extraordinary…as I had remembered. I mean, the sushi sill had a good taste, but not as impactful as it use to be. I do actually recommend people to at least try it once because it is worth it. for tha one time. oh yeah, and for pricing… Dont expect anything cheap, but the prices are pretty average

Am I just a sushi snob? I don’t think so. We read the awesome reviews of this place on Unilocal and headed straight there for a yummy Japanese dinner. We got to the strip mall that it’s located and maybe that should have been our first clue. Ok, Houston has tons and tons of strip malls, so I didn’t judge because of that. We went in and it was quiet but looked cute. It was very very quiet inside — no music of any sort. You don’t realize how used to music in restaurants you are until it’s deathly silent. It was Monday night and our waitress was the only one working. She was running around and doing the best she could, even though she got about 4 – 5 tables all at once. There is an all evening happy hour Monday — Wednesday, maybe that’s what brought people in? The happy hour prices are what i would expect the regular prices to be. Wow, this place is pricey for what you get! We were torn on what to get to we asked the waitress, she showed us the happy hour menu and we chose the item she recommended off of that. She didn’t tell us it was so tiny! We got the deep fried salmon roll($ 7.25HH special) and the hibachi chicken rice($ 11). Ohhh what a disappointment! The fried salmon roll was TINY and tasted very bland. The sauce it came with made it worse. I couldn’t believe that this roll of 5 tiny pieces normally sells for 10 $ or more. The hibachi chicken was some type of yellow rice with chicken and some strange sweet sauce on it. It was NOTHING like hibachi style rice. We were totally hungry after the over $ 20 worth of food we had already ordered, so we headed out of there in search of food. This is the first time I can ever remember leaving a place with a good rating in search of dinner #2. So sad since it could have been so good. Don’t waste your time with this place. Head to Japaniero’s in Sugar Land town square or Blue Fish House II by First Colony Mall. Both are head and shoulders above this place!

Don’t get to eat here as often as I like but is wonderful every time. The sushi is fresh and some of the best around. The location is small and good for a date or a get together with friends. Takeout is good as well.

We came here a little pass 11 just in time for lunch. We were the first ones in and in about two minutes people started to pour in. Hm… so I’m guessing the food must be pretty good. Since it was a cold day I decided to order a bowl of Chicken Udon. Um, Not very impressive. Different, yes. So, yea, pretty much BLAH on the Udon. However we also got one of the lunch bento boxes and that looked pretty yum. We also ordered a dragon roll and that was pretty darn good! The bento box came in pretty big portions. I love the fact that we got to choose to have fried rice instead of the traditional white rice. In the box included California roll, veggie tempura, and chicken teriyaki. I sampled everything in his box and I’ve decided to order a bento box the next time I visit Sasu(and maybe try a few different selections.)

The greater Houston area is so bloated with sushi restaurants that writing reviews for them becomes tedious and difficult. Almost every sushi restaurant gets it right. So, when I write my reviews I try to think about what makes that particular restaurant unique. That’s where Sasu fails, that is, when it comes to sushi. Don’t get me wrong, they serve terrific sushi, but they are no better then the guy down the street. I come here not because their food is unique but because they are the closest thing to my work. Only in Houston do you go to sushi restaurants like you go to mcdonalds. On the plus side, they do have some her authentic udon soup.

There are probably 3 Sushi places in the First Colony/New Territory area and Sasu is by far the best in every way. First of all, the service is polite, attentive, fast and just downright fantastic. The sushi is just PERFECT. It is actually the ONLY Sushi place that REGULARLY serves Toro(Fatty Tuna) which is the Holy Grail for Sushi enthusiasts. We go here at least once a week and as long as it stays this great we will continue to frequent this lovely place.

Another good sushi place in Sugar Land. This was the first sushi place started by the Venezuelan owner that now operates Japaniero’s in Sugar Land’s town square.
