It is SO hard to find the right stylist!
Having moved from NYC over a year ago, I went to salon after salon getting disappointing haircuts that honestly made me want to consider just wearing hats through my early 30s.
Who knew my 9am appointment at jRo studio one morning would end my search! Joseph is amazing at what he does! I suffer from thinning hair and like many guys, I’m in denial. The cut I’ve received the last two times have actually made me look like I have hair AND require little or no styling. You need an appointment last minute or at 1am? No problem. Shoot him a text and chances are, he’ll be there waiting.
Personable, funny and extremely talented! If you’re not getting your hair cut and styled by Joseph, then you’re probably not getting the best!

So, I was in town for the wedding of a close friend and had no idea what to do with my hair. This is a common problem for me, as I have limp, fine hair that just sort of sits there. Curls don’t hold, body is non-​existent, and volume? Forget about it. Normally I would just put it up in a fancy clip, but I was on vacation and wanted to try something new; I was a blowout virgin.
I’ll be honest. I was a little skeptical that my hair would actually curl, seeing as it’s usually devoid of all life, and also because the weather was kind of sticky. But I went anyway, because I never know how to style my hair for formal events and the blowout thing seems to be really popular. And as I said before, I was on vacation, I wanted fun new experiences.
Well I’ve totally been missing out! My hair looked FANTASTIC! I was almost annoyed that it took me 30 years to find out about this. Super curly, tons of volume and body; it was like I had another person’s head of hair! AND it held all night through the dancing, the sweating, and was even still looking good the next morning!
Not only did I get an amazing hairstyle, Joseph was great to work with. I felt like he was really listening to what I wanted, the look I was going for, and was receptive to my input. He really knows what he’s doing and you can tell that right away, so it puts any nervousness you have at ease. The space itself has a clean design, inviting and comfortable yet professional and classy. There was even a fridge with cold drinks which were awesome and made my experience all the better. Plus, there’s a flat screen TV playing movies, so even if you weren’t feeling chatty you’d still have something to pay attention to.
I wish I could visit on a weekly basis, but unfortunately my vacation, like all others, had to come to an end. Damn you, limited PTO days! I’ll be back, Los Angeles, and when I visit, I’m getting a blowout at jRO studio.

I’ve had Joseph do my blowouts on a few special occasions. Each & every time, the blowout gave my look & ooomph not to be had by any other indulgence (perfume, mani, a new outfit, etc). His studio is decorated in such a way that it showcases his personality & pride in his work. From just looking at his studio, I would glean that his work corresponds to the modern & chic décor of the studio.
Joseph is also a great conversationalist which makes the duration of the blowout go by in a second– he has such interesting stories about his academic & career background that display depth of his character (it emanates from him). I leave his studio w/​a spring in my step the rest of the day & it’s thanks to not only the external appearance of the blowout itself, but the nourishment of my soul & intellect. Thanks Joseph, for all the healing that you do :)
