Gum Spring Library

Beautiful new library. The separate teen section is really cool. The childrens section has so many things to do. My kids love coming here just to hang out.

Why doesn’t this library monitor the noise level? On top of that, why do the librarians speak at a level so that the whole floor hears them and not just the person they’re helping? I really shouldn’t hear your voice from across the room.
I have yet to have a quiet, peaceful experience here. I would go use their study rooms, but they often have a funky smell. Are people allowed to eat in there? And they’re always taken by only one person. The library should’ve been designed to have a blocked off quiet room where multiple people can have their own space and study. The librarians should be monitoring the noise level. Very frustrated every time I come here.
If you’re looking for a quiet study space, you’re better off making a short drive to chantilly library in fairfax county. People giving this place good reviews are probably just amazed by the cleanliness and look, this place just isn’t very functional.

This library is great. Obviously books but what makes it great is the many events they have for kids on a regular basis and the learning computers they have. They also have mega blocks and train sets out for kids to play with.
I try to bring my 3 and 5 yr old here whenever possible and let them roam and they love it.
It does get a bit loud at times bc it’s so popular with younger kids but it’s worth it. The only improvement I would have is to somehow make the computers louder or have smaller head phones so they fit kids better.

The reviews about the noisy environment weren’t wrong! This place sounds like a preschool during lunchtime: kids screaming, crying, talking, climbing furniture (at all hours). And staff are mostly not that much more quiet. Nobody seems to have heard the concept of «whispering» in the library. Staff and patrons talk and greet each other and catch up on life over aisles of books like it’s the local supermarket; teenagers have social hour talking and laughing at regular pitch; and it gets so loud sometimes, front desk staff have to raise their voice to be heard by patrons checking out material. I’ve never seen such a chaotic scenario in any library anywhere in the country. And if the library cared enough, there have been enough complaints about noise in reviews here alone for them to get a hint, but apparently it’s no big deal to Gum Spring Library.
A small part of the problem is the architectural design of the building: the open center creates a drum, so sounds vibrate and spread all over (who hired that architect??), but if «quiet» was observed, it’d not be as problematic.
The library is nice enough. The material available is decent, and they have copiers, computers with internet, a nice DVD and BluRay selection, audio books, so forth. You know, library things.
But the NOISE… oh my GOD.
I could only stand 10 minutes in this place before I had to take off. Not a library to have peace and quiet in whatsoever!

The staff is friendly! I had a book on hold that wasn’t at the hold shelf and an employee kindly helped me find it. They apologized for the confusion.
The selection isn’t that big, so i suggest checking online if you want a specific book. But the location is really convenient.

I admit I’m still pretty bitter that this library was built in the first place because I wanted it to be a fitness center instead (perfect size and location Xsport of Lifetime, no?). well anyways…
The library itself is one of the nicest in the Fairfax/​Loudon County area because it’s fairly spakin’ new, spacious, and has lots of rooms for different purposes.
My only complaint — they don’t have COLOR printing here! (Only black/​white printing for 10 cents per page) When I come to the library, it’s often because my ink ran out and I need to print something, and some things just need to be printed in color. Come on people, Loudon is the wealthiest county in the U.S., I think we can afford color printing at a public library…

Very clean and lots of books and others. They have different sections for teenagers, children, etc. I went to get some work done and because I didn’t want to drive all the way to George Mason. I wanted to use a study room, but it was all taken up by some kids. The study rooms were more like group study rooms. I wish they have individual.
Not really much else to say as I did not go to check out any books, but it was clean. Seemed to have a large selection of books by looking around. Hopefully next time I can find a quiet room to do my work.

Left my house to get away from my loud, screaming siblings and get some studying in, only to come here and listen to more screaming children downstairs. — I know it’s hard to keep kids quiet, but like I said before. this is a library and not a play ground/​daycare center.
I really wish the apathetic librarians would do something about this instead of ignoring everything that goes on inside.

I love books therefore I love Gum Spring Library.
This place is clean, bright, and new who doesn’t love a good library ?!
They also have tons of meeting rooms, and I particularly love the quiet room when I want to zone in and just read in peace.
Tons of events going on for kids, and a great place for the community!
Go get that library card and start renting away, and if you’re not a book person they have a great video collection :)

My kids keep begging me to bring them to this library. Clean and modern with a great selection of books and media. The children’s library is equipped with a Lego station, toy train station, computers, books, CDs, and DVDs. The teen library upstairs also boasts a game room and separate enclosed study rooms.

I drove past this place for a year before I knew it was a library …
The corporate logo is rather deceptive.

Recently came here for the first time and I thought the library looked very nice. Didn’t stay too long to browse, therefore once I get used to the library and see what all they have to offer I’ll update my review but so far all looked good. Staff memeber that helped me was friendly as well.

Took the kids here a few months ago. It was nice and the kids had a good time. It looks like they are still trying to fill some of the shelves with books but overall the place is good. The kids had fun and we picked up a few books too.

Checked out the Gum Springs Library with the kids today. Overall, it was pretty nice. compared to the Sterling Library it is much bigger and spacious. There was a lot of neat stuff to check out. The children’s section was large which in one sense was nice, but when you have two kids under 5 you want to be able to see them both at the same time and with shelves taller than them it was harder.
Check out was pretty cool. It was a self check-​out where the computer scans the book for you. Pretty high tech, but I do miss having a real live person check us out.

I’m so happy that Gum Spring Library opened this year. I moved to this area almost two years ago and was so sad that no library was around yet until Gum Spring opened!
I’ve gone here a couple of times and have pleasant experiences. Got my library card and started checking out books. The selection isn’t all that great yet. The art section is so little and I’m hoping that more books will be added to the listing. They have large print books, audio, computer stations, and study rooms. **This is a library so lots of children and kids are here** It does tend to get a bit noisy. (One time – I was looking at the kids that were making a ruckus and they sweetly apologized for the noise.)
The great thing about this library/​this county’s libraries is that when you get a card – go online! Find the books you want to read and request them! It’s a great feature and I use it lots! If Gum Spring doesn’t have your book and another library does – they will transit the book (s) to Gum Spring for you. It’s great. They will notify you (if you choose for email notifications) and you can go to the library to pick it up at the holding book racks.
I love it here! It’s modern, there’s parking, it’s clean. A wonderful area!

This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood for sure — a lovely new library to visit. Not large but very nice, this library has a lot going for it and will have a great future. It’s a very well-​traveled library, with customers crowding it at times — as it should be. The children’s section I found to be spartanly stocked — either the books are flying off the shelves or they’re not up to full stock yet. The check-​out computers seem to work pretty well, the computers obviously new and clean. I do not know yet what other features this library has but I certainly hope it’s on par with the Ashburn library. It appears there are plenty of programs to draw kids in.
One gripe — on two occasions so far we sought help from the staff. The first was to get a library card, and the second while my wife was having a problem with one of the machines. On the first occasion, I was standing across from three staffers at the customer service desk who were deeply involved in a personal conversation and I had a difficult time getting their attention despite being only a few feet away, the one who assisted seemed bothered that I interrupted. The other time I observed my wife flagging down a staff who walked by twice despite being called out before she’d stop and assist. I hope these were just flukes.

Four years after the originally-​scheduled opening, we finally have a library in this area of Loudoun County. Much-​anticipated, I am glad to see it finally be realized.
The layout is good, and they have a decent amount of most anything you may be looking for. Computer terminals are plentiful. Audiobooks are plentiful for those who commute and want to learn or have some entertainment on the road. They even have recent Blu-​ray and DVD videos you can check out. There’s a good selection of books for the kids, too. If there’s something you can’t find, they can probably get ahold of it from one of the other county libraries, or on loan from elsewhere.
The staff were helpful and able to answer our questions.
Overall, the experience has been positive thus far.
