We drove from Tulsa, OK to come to this brewery. We looked at the website before deciding to go, and it only talked about all the different beers they offered. We were psyched. So we get here, and we’re instantly confused by the wonky rules the brewery has to jump through. Turns out, you’re only allowed one flight or one 12 oz pint of their«high volume» beer here. They also can’t do those beers in growlers so you can take them home to enjoy(because who wants just ONE beer??). I understand the laws prevent them from certain things, but we were pretty frustrated that their website didn’t warn newcomers of this situation. We had planned to come out here and spend a few hours trying new beers, but now we are leaving a bit disappointed. On the plus side, we got their flights and their chocolate habanero stout was delicious. If you’re looking for a unique and rich beer, then definitely try that one.

What a huge win for Stillwater to have this place downtown. When they opened up, I hoped the beer would be good… for local beer. Turns out the beer is just flat-out good. Really good. They’re now bottling 3 styles(Milk Stout, Imperial IPA, and a wheat beer), and typically have 5 – 7 more available at the taproom, which you can drink there or take away in a growler. The ambience in the taproom is great – brick walls with tasteful black and white photos, nicely finished wooden tables, and a huge window into the brewery itself so you can see where the magic happens. And the Purdy-Q truck is outside whenever the taproom is open, so you can grab some local grub with your drinks. The only drawback isn’t really their fault, but is still worth mentioning. Due to absurd Oklahoma liquor laws, you can only have 12 ounces of high-point beer per visit(and even that requires exploiting loopholes, whereby you buy a glass and get the beer for«free»). But the low-point stuff is sufficiently tasty that it’s still well worth a lengthy visit. Still, if Oklahoma finally modernizes its liquor laws, this place will be even better.

Good beer. Unfortunately the liquor/beer laws are a bit wonky/out-of-date in Oklahoma so your experience is instantly confusing as the bartenders are forced to explain the weird loophole which allows you to have 12oz of 3.2+ ABV beer(Purchase a glass or donate to the Charity of the month). Other then that they have great service, good beer, and occasionally have a food truck on site serving up delicious food.

Cheers to the brave lads behind Iron Monk! They dared to be different and bold by bringing an authentic tradition to Stilly, which since opening, has managed to consistently deliver a world class product with singular charm, local flavour and a wealth of taste! One can only hope such a refreshing and brilliant addition to a college town ripe for more artisanal enterprises which express heritage crafts, entrepreneurial values and grass roots commerce, will be forthcoming.

Solid location, awesome beer, first local brewery… this is the duck’s nuts, Stilly! We should all vote to abolish antiquated prohibition laws and move into the 21st century. Get a flight for now, or ask Jared if they’ve got a new batch of a unique flavor. The Hopped Up Wheat is my favorite at the moment. Hoping to enjoy more than 12 oz. soon.

The owner of the Iron Monk was super nice! He heard that one of the people in our group had never been on a brewery tour before, so he gave us a FREE tour so he could train one of the tour guides! Great experience. Very excited for this brewery!
