Honda of Staten Island

There seems to be negative reviews of this dealer on here and sounds more like another dealership is trying to sabotage S. I Honda, so I’m going to explain how my interaction with them went. I bought my second Honda here. I don’t understand these negative reviews at all. I would honestly never shop at another dealer. Honda makes a great vehicle, but the service really makes this dealership. Staten Island Honda is above and beyond amazing with their commitment to the customer. Both transactions were smooth and no hidden fees. You can’t go wrong with these guys, thank you!

Read the fine print everywhere. The newspaper offers and what they actually come up with varies a lot!

Where do I even begin with this place. Ugh totally over them.
So I brought my truck in for some recall issues they been bugging me about, so I bring it in an I’m told there not major recalls an I don’t need to fix them. Umm?! So why are they recalled, clearly it needs to be updated an fixed, well now the don’t have the parts an they been waiting for months for the parts so they’ll call me when it comes in.
Now wait I just totally jumped ahead of myself, I go in for my 830 am appointment, tell the gentleman Tom what’s going on an why I’m there. He tells me well there a service diagnostic charge of $ 160 if you want us to tell you why your truck is hitting bumps so hard. Now I’m so confused for one I have extended Warrenty that covers everything an right about now I feel like there trying to take advantage of me bc I’m a women who knows jack about vehicles but one thing i do know is when I’m being hustled an taken advantage of. So I’m definitely not having it an he’s arguing with me back an forth an long story a little short he ended up waving this weird $ 160 fee for them to open my hood an look at the issue. On top of them doing my recall an oil change. Just didn’t sit well with me. Damn crooks I’m more then certain theres a commission on there «diagnostic fee»
Sucks this is the only one closes to me bc if it weren’t I’d never come back an now that I have too they know better then to try an hustle me.

This place is GARBAGE. Terrible service — trying to sell shit cars — hidden certified fees on used vehicles listed and verbally sold as certified already. Unlawfully ran credit even after did not consent — not to mention when I called to inquire as to why I was received letters about my finance application with 5 different banks even after I stated I did not want to do the deal after speaking with Honda corporate about this scam of a 900 certification fee on top of sticker price– they transferred me to the salesman and he refused to pickup. Do yourself a favor go to bay ridge Honda.

Nothing and I mean nothing can describe the sleaziness of the people that work in this place! I swore I would not return there again for a repair to my Honda, but since I found myself pressed for time I didn’t have the luxury to take it to Gus’s Auto Repair or over to NJ. So I figured lets go here. Well they immediately start with the attitude when I denied them doing all sorts of repairs they claimed the car needed (this happened here before whereas I then took it to another dealer who said no the car didn’t need XYZ as SI Honda claimed). So after today’s service I drive home only to hear a noise coming from where they did the work. I drive right back and get the most arrogant response from this big jerk that brings the cars around to the front. I demand to speak to a manager where’s this other big buffoon comes over and says I have to leave the car over night so they can see what the mechanic did that’s causing the noise. I understand they have to check it out but I said to the manager didn’t your tech check the car after the repair? Says of course they do. I say then what’s this obvious strange noise he should have picked up on. And no apology for the inconvenience of having to leave the car now overnight. Dirtbags.
I really hope I have an opportunity to do a survey.

Went there last Sunday and began the paperwork to purchase a 2013 Civic. I asked the salesman Phil to run it past the finance manager on Monday and if it came in at my price range I would pick it up on Tuesday. I got a call on Monday from Phil stating it came in from finance in my price range and I could drive home with it on Tuesday– awesome right?
Tuesday arrives, and I get to the dealership. Phil the salesman wants me to wait and sit with their finance manger «it’ll be five minutes». 5 minutes turns into almost 2 hours with Phil the salesman giving me tours of the car that I’d already decided on buying. I finally get in to see the finance manager and the price” is is literally $ 120 more than what I was quoted 24 hours before so I walked out! Of course, the sales manager Greg Samborski follows me out quoting a price that’s only $ 60 more than than what I was originally quoted. Why? Because I was lied to? Because I was walking out? Why are they playing games? I was understandably uncomfortable with the situation at that point so I told Mr. Samborski to call me on Wednesday if he wants to make the sale.
Wednesday comes, no call from Mr. Samborski (of course) but he does have the on site insurance broker (who is insuring my current vehicle) call me with quotes on the car price!!! Lmao !! Of course I was not comfortable with this… If I like the quote am I gonna buy the car from an insurance broker? I requested from the broker that whoever gave him those quotes give them back to him and tell him to man up and call me himself. Of course, I never received a call.
These guys don’t understand that they need the consumer not the other way around! I’ll just go to the dealership across the street.

I went there to look at cars & was thinking of getting a car for lease. The guy who helped me seen to lazy and didn’t want to help much. I didn’t know what I wanted just wasn’t really sure… Asked him about the dead for Labor Day weekend and they didn’t have any according to him. At the end while waiting and waiting. We walked out and went else where! Service need major improvement & building looks like a used car dealer. Paint & building looked like it was breaking off & the owners didn’t care how their appearances looked.

I was told by many people not to go there, but wanted to give it a try since they had a car I like online. I quickly found out why people don’t recommend this SI honda after sitting on a table with Path Amarasinghe. He is a terrible salesperson with very very bad attitude. I walked out and did not even attempt test drive the vehicle. What a mistake, and a waste of time. Path is the worst sales person I have ever met. Hiring somebody like this it’s clear why SI Honda is never recommend. I wish there’s an option to give no stars.

When doing business with cellphone carriers, cable tv and internet service providers, banks and car dealerships, one must start with low expectations so I was initially pleasantly surprised with Honda of Staten Island.
But when I was about to close the deal, I asked about the «Certified Pre-​Owned Honda» status of the car that was advertised not only in the main Honda website but also in the dealership’s and in a large sticker in the windshield of the car. I was then told that it just means the car CAN be certified but in fact, it is not. The car only had a 3 month warranty instead of the 7 year/​100 000 miles (from date of the original purchase) for the powertrain. If this is indeed correct, it should be classified as false advertisement which already made me concerned about this dealership and even Honda altogether. Nowhere in the Honda website have I found anything saying that the logo «Certified Pre-​Owned» doesn’t necessarily mean the car is so.
Since I had seen independent car dealerships selling the model I was interested in for less and with the same 3 month warranty, I immediately asked for my deposit back but almost as quickly I was given the certification to close the deal. I also accepted an offer for a bumper to bumper warranty in trade of a lower interest rate and a remote engine starter for half the price ($ 200 instead of $ 400). I was still troubled but at least I got what I wanted.
I did not have time wait for the remote engine starter to be installed that day so I returned 3 days later. Once it was installed, and looking at the remote I found it very different from what I remember in the website but I figured it was because this was the first generation of starters. After getting home and trying to download the manual for the starter from the Honda website, I confirmed it was not the original one and instead a cheap aftermarket model ($ 59 at Amazon). It does work but my mistake was to assume that by saying the words «remote starter» at an official Honda dealership, everyone would understand I was referring to the real thing.
If I was cheated on such a small part, I can only imagine what other surprises I will get with this car. Not to mention that I have no idea if the car was actually serviced and checked according to the Honda Pre-​Certified Ownership program.
Giving 1 star may sound a bit harsh comparing to some other accounts I have read, but anything else could mean I would carefully do business with Staten Island Honda again in the future… But I will not!

These people don’t even deserve one star. Went to buy a car, they scammed us and told us we’d get a car, then said there were none available so we had to wait, negotiated a deal, then they kept tacking on more and more to the bill even though we agreed one ONE final price.
The salesman lied throughout the 2 week long negotiation process and then we went to the finance manager Al Abraham who very rudely kept adding more money to the final price and taking away many of the features we were promised. Every time we asked a question, he would raise his voice, he took a private call while we were negotiating and talked about how we were wasting his time to the person on his phone. Then he threatened to fight my father and delivered racial slurs when we told him he was changing our entire contract, also while this was happening the salesman turned off the lights at the dealership and starting locking the doors. Honda manufactures great vehicles but their salespeople made Honda unappealing.

Sold me a certified car with frame damage. Did not show on carfax did show in later inspection. They did not tell me about this. Inspectors say it is severe and is very dangerous. They also gave me someone else’s receipt upon purchase and sold the car for 5,000 more than they said the final price would be. Taking legal action as no one at the dealership with call me back. Don’t ever go to Staten Island Honda.

Super slow!!! They don’t care about your time! The only reason I come here it’s because it’s close and its Honda service. Avoid coming here on weekends you will wait for forever!

John Giliani, salesman, is a SNAKE! This dealership is terrible!!! I was warned!!! The salesman JOHN GILIANI, was rude, arrogant & is hard to understand!!! He makes deals on cars then acts like you’re crazy when you finalize the paperwork!!! There should be an option for negative stars. That’s what I’d give then negative 1 million stars. Do yourself a favor. Go to N J And buy a Honda. John you are the worst!

As you can see from the rarity of reviews in my profile, I don’t review unless the place is terrible. And this place is terrible enough for me to spend the time to warn others away from it.
Should have checked the reviews online before heading into the dealers. Confirmed a price over the phone the prior day. Once I got in, told me that the price did not include destination even though I told him the MSRP and their own web price, both of which includes destination. Then said nevermind after some resistence.
Then comes the trade evalaution, which was evaluated at 2,000 less than another dealer gave me straight up without any negotiation at the absolute bottom end of any trade-​in estimates provided by any of the websites out there (kbb, nada, edmunds, autotrader, black book, etc). Even this was o nevermind, we can give you a better price after some resistence.
The vehicle preparation fee mentioned by others here are real here, $ 400 worth real. I haven’t seen this since 12 years ago for a non-​Honda dealer that was shut down by a NYC councilman for defrauding buyers. That is on top of the $ 400 documentation fee also mentioned by others here even though it is mentioned everywhere that New York state capped the documentation fee at $ 75. Though can’t really say much on the doc fee since NJ dealers are also charging $ 300 to $ 400. I didn’t even bother asking what that optional title fee of $ 117 is. I think the guy that was helping me out intentionally took his time give me back my license/​key after I’m all ready to leave after he gave me the trade in number.
What a joke of a dealer this is. I’m sure their dealerrater rating (4.4÷5.0) is probably all doctored and massaged since they are a paying member. Avoid if you can, be careful if you can’t.

Wow, I haven’t given a 1 star in a long time but this really deserves it… Why didn’t I read this page before wasting my time?
Internet prices are there to draw you in. Good luck walking out with anything close to that price…

They lie with straight faces, the internet add for the 2012 Honda Civic was for$ 13 500. By the time we were done it was $ 18 000. The internet ad said the Honda was Certified Pre-Owned…at our expense of $ 1200. The included 7 year bumper to bumper was included… at our expense of $ 2000. $ 400 Doc fee, $ 395 Prep fee, $ 400 registration fee, with perfect credit, 8% interest. REALLY??? This place is such a scam!!!

This place sucks. We went once to look at a car that mysteriously sold in the 2 hrs my husband took to got there. Only for them to call me a few days later to tell me the other guys finance didn’t go through. I call BS! Go back again to test drive another car. I get a text on the way there that the car sold. This place is deceptive and jacks up their fees. NY regulates their doc fee at $ 75, not the $ 395 they tell you. Do not buy your car at this place. Their internet prices are to lure you in. Buyer beware.

I tried to give this place another chance I really did.
Went here a couple of months ago for some routine maintenance. Was told I could pick up my car at 7 am. Needless to say the ineptitude of the employees was astounding as they waddled to get their coffee 10 minutes after they we’re supposed to start work.
On top of that they were miserable. I understand it’s early in the morning, but seriously I’ve never experienced such awful customer service.
So I wrote an email to the management explaining the situation and they truly did make an attempt to right the situation. They asked me to come back for an additional repair for significant discount which I did, and things went smoothly.
Fast forward to this week, I needed a socket for the headlight in my car. I thought I was going to just need a light bulb from auto zone, but turns out the socket has also fallen out, and only place you can get the sockets is Honda.
So I went to the first counter and began explaining what I needed and the man at the counter just points to the parts counter in the back without a word. Seriously? Would it be so much just to speak to me and explain where I need to go?
Go to the parts counter, purchase the part. Where this counter person «are you going to try and install this yourself?» And I reply yes. And he replies «Well good luck with that.» What the hell? I realize I’m a female, but it’s a friggin lightbulb.
So I give up Staten Island Honda, I’ll be making the trip across the bridge for my service needs in the future.

Waste of time.
Tricks to do anything to take your money. They add fees no other dealer does to make the price you came in for thinking it was a steal, end up a lot more than other dealers.
Example: A fee to «start up the car» $ 400, documentation fee for them to sign paper works to get car in $ 400. No other dealers do that of the 5 I visited.
To entice with a price lower than other dealers, only to make it more than other dealers is definitely INSINCERE even for a car dealership standard.
Waste of time.
