Best Chinese food on the island. Everything I have had so far has been delicious. Service is also fantastic. Ask Sonny for a recommendation and I promise you will be happy

Everything from beginning to end was fabulous. My favorite is the chicken in black bean sauce! Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Good quality food! Orange beef is the best. Tasty and crispy! Friendliest staff also. My favorite is the spare ribs, the sauce is delicious.

Don’t bother. After 1hr and 50 mins, 30 mins after they said it would be delivered, I called to find out they had no clue where my order was. They asked for an address, phone number but still nothing. Don’t waste your time they are clueless.

FRESHFOOD. Finally a place that serves fresh food to go. I was on the fence after being off the island for several years, and coming back to places that just drown you food in sauce, and just plain soggy. This was a amazing surprise! The General Tso’s chicken with crispy and not soggy the full of flavor(even after requesting for it not spicy) and Chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce. You can tell how fresh the food and sauce was. The man who answered the phone was very friendly, and as soon as you walked it, you were greeted with a smile. So if you are tired of mall style«Chinese food«this place is a must try!

Try as they might, the attentive(to a fault) waitresses could not compensate for the poor food quality. The first time we’d gone here the food was much better, it was flavorful, and the eggplant was delicious. Noodles were good, everything was on point. But we went again recently and it was just… awful. Bland, tasteless. The food was so, SO oily. It really tasted like canola oil. That was the flavor. Canola oil. Sorry to beat that dead horse. But it was a very unpleasant meal. I cook frequently and I appreciate that sauces are cut with oil, or that sauté requires it to… ya know, sauté. But this was oil replacing other ingredients that lend texture and taste. It’s not cheap food(it’s rather expensive) so don’t prepare it cheaply. I won’t be returning. There is better Chinese elsewhere in Staten Island.

This place is average, and only 2 stars. The problem is, they set themselves up with such high standards, and you see all the medals on the wall, you think you’re about to eat the greatest chinese food ever. And then after the first bite, you’re like eh this is not worth the price for this! You then remember you’re in Grant City, Staten Island. The restaurant is placed in an odd location, with no parking to be found on Lincoln or along the railroad. The woman by the bar is incredibly rude and needs a smile on her face, and greet customers more pleasantly. The bar area looks like a cool place to hang but it was empty. I’m going to pass on this place.

Chef Jan’s Kitchen was an interesting place. The restaurant took over the former«corner house» which was an irish bar that had a 50+ year history on staten island. Filled with dark wood paneling and a beautiful vintage bar not much has changed in the eating area by the bar with the exception of the many many plaques, awards, and photos of chef jan that are crammed down the customers throat as soon as you enter the establishment. It’s a bit overwhelming, over compensating and nowhere near the transformative experience one would receive at other local establishments like a jade island(which is more of a polynesian vibe) or any of there other sit down chinese restaurants on staten island. Even the exterior has a giant illustration of chef jans face. We get it, Chef Jan is the owner and chef but enough’s enough already. That being said the food was amazing. Beautifully prepared and presented like a true piece of art. Sauces were delicious, service was incredibly friendly and accommodating and the desserts were fantastic. Overall I would recommend this restaurant but I do have concerns: * too much was spent on chef jan compensating for his ego and not enough on the interior of the restaurant. * incredibly pricey food for the locale. this is not situated in a bustling community. It resides in a lower middle class-middle class community that will not sustain such high priced meals. Most folks in this area buy chinese food because it’s cheap and you can stretch the leftovers for a couple of lunches. Not the case here. there wasn’t a thing left to take home. whether it be because of the portion size or the food being so tasty.

I’ve ordered there several times and each time the food is delicious! It’s a little pricey but worth it. The food is different from other chinese restaurants.

My husband and I went to this restaurant last night, our first time. We were very disappointed. The wonton soup was just OK. We followed with«scallion» pancakes. THEY had No scallions in them Not even one small piece. Next up was peppersteak with Onion’s and peppers. This was the Best of the dishes. It was good. Then came«pan fried» noodles with beef and chicken. The noodles were Not pan fried. They were mushy. In all, not a dinner we will remember fondly. We will Not be returning. Thumbs down.

As a writer of some of the best restaurants in the tri-state area, and in the Daily News today with a review about another famous Chinese place, Royal Queen in Flushing, I found Chef Jan’s to be amazing. I can still taste the sumptuous Seafood Soup and the amazing Lobster dishes I tried. I do not understand the adverse comments as I am a seasoned restaurant writer and know the expertise that this chef possesses. He is the best of his kind. I suggest you follow my lead and not the comments from those who do not understand fine cookery.

My sister recommended this place so I decided to come and try it. I’m very glad I did. Even the fried noodles with the duck sauce that you get when you sit down was delicious. They didn’t taste stale like other places. For dinner I ordered the roast pork lomain and the spareribs(this is an appetizer but I told them to bring it out with my meal) the lomain was delicious and wasn’t greasy like most places. I think I really can say the spareribs were the best I’ve ever tasted. They weren’t dry and were very moist! Exceptional! My husband had the chicken and cashews and thought it was delicious also. It tastes fresh and had fresh veggies such as peppers, carrots, and celery, mushrooms. As far as price goes they can be a little pricey and the rice is a la cart unless you order white/brown rice. I feel like you pay for what you get and the quality is great. I don’t like when I go to Chinese places and the chicken tastes chewy. That is not the case at all. I really hope they stay in business for a long time because I really did enjoy it. As we were finishing up the bartender came over and gave us a sampling of this refreshing celery drink that had Bacardi. I love when I go to restaurants and they add touches like that. Absolute great service!

The food was tasteless and the portions were small. The people were nice and were trying hard but the food was not good. It is probably one of the most expensive Chineese restaurant on Staten Island. I don’t mind paying if the food and the atmosphere are good, but this place does not have neither. I will not be going back there!

Such good food. Good portion size and really good flavor, with amazingly friendly servers. But really long wait for the food, so warning if you’re pressed for time maybe u should save this place for another time

This was my first time here and our party of four shared a number of appetizers and two entrees and the pork fried rice. The scallion pancakes were the best I have ever had — thin and crispy and with an amazing plum sauce. The two entrée portions plus the rice was perfect for our party of four. The Mongolian Beef had just the right amount of spice and the jumbo shrimp were cooked perfectly. But it’s not just the food that is wonderful — the staff is amazing. So friendly and welcoming. We all look forward to coming back.

The people are nice but the food wasn’t that good. The sesame chicken was rubbery and the chicken and broccoli had no flavor. The fried rice wasn’t bad but everything else was disappointing. Sorry Chef Jan your over priced and your food is not that good.

i was skeptical bc it’s a bit more pricy then other places in our area… but was pleasantly surprised. Menu looks similar to other chinese take out places however the dishes had a very unique flavor… the lo mein was slightly spicy and fresh– portion was generous. The sesame chicken was delicious and so was the sweet and sour chicken. Oh and the pork steamed dumplings had a really nice flavor(esp with the slightly tangy dipping sauce). Delivery was average time, food was super hot when it got to us.

We were really excited to try this place. We figured a chef with so many awards would not disappoint. While we waited for our food we looked over the awards on the wall. We decided to Google the awards and chef. The awards are for food carving. Crud. The dandan noodles were just spaghetti with a weak sesame sauce with scallions and cucumbers. Nothing like actual dandan noodles. Fail. I got the chef special with pork belly and the pork belly was amazing. The rest was bland. My husband got the chef special seafood dish. He loved the sauce but for the price the plate was pretty scarce. It looked more like an appetizer size. I doubt we’ll go back.

This new Chinese restaurant opened up on my block and I had to try it. It’s a sit down restaurant with excellent wait staff. They are very attentive and the food came out quickly. They serve u fried noodles as u wait for the food with duck sauce which was delicious. I ordered the jumbo shrimp with garlic sauce which was excellent and very tasty. My fiancé ordered the pork schezuan thing which was really good also. It’s a little pricey-my jumbo shrimp was $ 20 and we ordered house special fried rice which was yummy but was like $ 14 bucks. All in all though it was worth the $ and can’t wait to go back.
