I only give this place three stars, not because the beach isn’t nice enough to deserve more, but because the little promenade area has been closed since Sandy and the municipality has shown no initiative to reopen it. It was a great hang out spot when it was open. But if you like rocky beaches, with a serene yet urban view, then you’ll be hard pressed to find better.

Im in dire need of a tropical vacation… and this is seriously not it… This place stinks… NYC is good for everything but beaches… Lol I’ve always wondered why the beaches are so disguesting in new york city… oh wells… I’m from Staten island i pretty much live four miles away from the buono beach and see it all the time from a distance… but this is the frist time i tried to have a nice summery stroll… it didn’t really work well… its disgusting… grabage…waste …stinky air and I don’t know what’s on their minds when I see these people walking on that crap… the water is extremely populated… The view is nice… But you can barley step on that disgusting sand… Go check out south beach… much better area to walk on… still dirty… but at least it’s not disgusting…

Another of Staten Island hidden gems. A tiny relaxation spot to sit and enjoy beautiful views and listen to waves hitting rocky shore. It’s right next to Alice Austen house, if you wish to visit another attraction.

I bet you never heard of Buono Beach. I never had, till I went to visit the Alice Austen House Museum. Buono Beach borders the Alice Austen House property, and runs along the shore for the equivalent of about 3 blocks. The beach itself is rocky and uneven, but people still enjoy it, fishing, picking up sea glass, and taking in the view of Manhattan and Jersey City. A 1997 renovation added a paved walkway along the length of the beach, and a memorial fountain.
