Specialties
There is no other home in the Tahoe Basin quite like Fjeldheim. No other home offers our unique mix of vast space plus cozy character; luxury event venue plus lodging before and afterward; wilderness solitude plus close proximity to town; a 10-acre lot plus 10,000 acres of National Forest land; 5 minutes to Heavenly Nevada Lodges and 5 minutes to Zephyr Cove beaches; complete privacy plus a helpful caretaker right next door.
We specialize in providing accommodations for large groups and venues for exclusive events. Corporate retreats, family reunions, anniversary or retirement celebrations, and weddings all find their perfect expression at Fjeldheim.
One example of a key way we cater to large groups: Toilets. It is not enough to count the beds or bedrooms of a potential lodging, you must consider how many bathrooms it offers, of what quality. Will you stand in line? Depending on how you count, we have 8 to 10 bedrooms, but we also have 9 bathrooms. Find that elsewhere in Tahoe.
History
Established in 2003.
Built by the Nelsons in the 70’s as a vacation home with a taste of the Old Country, Fjeldheim welcomed a wide variety of family friends, extended family, and many others– the Nelsons’ hospitality at Fjeldheim was renowned.
In 2001 the family patriarch passed ownership of the home to his three adult sons, and it seemed that Fjeldheim would have to be sold unless it could somehow begin to pay its own bills. For the next two years, the three Nelson men and their wives toiled to upgrade the already-remarkable home. They considered making Fjeldheim an Inn, but part of the house’s charm is its rambling integrity, the joy of having full use of the whole place. Folks love to explore its paneled halls, from bedroom to bath, from library to bar, without fearing that they are trespassing on another guest’s territory.
So in 2003 Fjeldheim opened to the public as a VRBO. We have hosted dozens of weddings, anniversaries, family reunions, and retreats, vastly growing the legacy of Fjeldheim.
Meet the Manager
Josh L.
Manager
Josh Lufkin has been on the Fjeldheim team as Property Manager since 2002. He lives just 30 paces from the main house in the caretaker’s chalet, Trollhytta («The Troll Hut).» Josh handles guest reservations and daily operations of the Tahoe Mountain Home property.
Born and bred in the Northeast, Josh is an experienced outdoorsman and can advise you with authority about nearly every outdoor sport and pastime in the Eastern Sierras, even (as of recently) golf. He handles all Tahoe’s weather wisely, particularly winter, and is a master of the snowplow. Our neighbors down the hill appreciate his habit of doing their driveway as well. «Since I’m at it, I’ll do this too» is a typical attitude for Josh– he is always up to something helpful.
Josh also has construction experience and a degree in Architectural Engineering. Serving as general contractor for all the remodeling & repair at Fjeldheim made Josh just as much an expert on the inside of the home as the wilderness around it.
