This restaurant is an authentic Japanese neighborhood dining room where you’ll find most of the customers are Japanese. It has served generations of families for decades, and I was first taken here by my deceased father. We lived in Japan in the early sixties and love truly authentic Japanese food. The service is polite, the quality is high, and the atmosphere is unique. There are prints of John Lennon sketches on the walls. It’s a delight on all levels. Prices are fair as well.

My parents used to own a Jewelery shop and Hair Salon next door, so I’ve been coming here since I was sneaking in the back to get green tea ice cream from Yokika(spelling) at the age of 4. Now, 23 years later and I still drive 40 minutes just to get their sushi. I believe since then the owners moved back to Japan, and their son runs it. The sushi is fresh and done right. Great, great seafood and rolls. They have staff that has been there for years and are extremely friendly. Even to this day, surprisingly my favorite thing on the menu is their tonkatsu — breaded pork. Kind of like a snitzel. Comes with a salad that has such as a good dressing, rice and dipping sauce. What’s not to love: Reasonably priced Great food Great service

Very slow service. Servers are friendly but I shouldn’t have to hunt down a server for water for 10 min. Food is mediocre. Small portions. Chilean sea bass doesn’t taste super fresh. Won’t be back.

It’s quite rare that I feel an establishment earned ***** This is one of those occasions. Thank you for your standards. Tasty fish and excellent presentations.

Came here on a Saturday after making reservations for party of 3 adults &1 child. We walked in to a full house where only 2 elderly waitresses and 1 sushi chef was taking care of the whole restaurant. It took 15 to get seated, another 15 min to get our orders and when we ordered sushi(bc it is a sushi restaurant) they told us it would take 45 – 50 min so we had to order all hot food from the kitchen. 30 mins later, our food arrived and by then the baby was tired, hot from lack of AC and just done with waiting over an hour. The hot food was good but not worth the wait. Maybe they can get their operations in order b/c I can’t imagine coming back to this place. Funny thing is, all the tables were full in the restaurant(approx 20) but a Japanese couple who was seated after us at the sushi bar, got their food within minutes and walked out before we even got our hot dishes. Go figure… maybe they are regulars but I hate that kinda of subtle discrimination among Japanese patrons/business owners.

Mitsuyoshi is one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. My landlady took me here once and I was pleasantly surprised. :) I actually can’t remember the exact name of the set I got(oops) but I think it’s their lunch bento set. It came with a little bit of everything: a piece of karaage and salmon, some pieces of sashimi, tempura, nimono, chawanmushi, miso soup, etc. I tend to judge a Japanese restaurant by the quality of their tempura and this place did not disappoint! It wasn’t super yellow and excessively oily– it was nice and light. It was a lot of food so I took some of it to go. Perfect for 1.5÷2 meals! My landlady had the hitsumabushi(eel donburi dish) which you can eat 3 different ways. There’s a little sign on the table that explains how you can eat it so you can just read and follow along. I tried some and it was very moist and delicious. It’s a bit pricey but I think it’s worth trying if you’ve never had it before. If I’m craving«authentic» Japanese food and I’m too lazy to drive to Torrance, I’ll be swinging by here again.

They’re still quite good, better than average, even. But the magic’s gone. I visited a month or two ago, and the veteran sushi masters who had made the place special had been replaced by a pleasant young sushiman who, to be kind, still has a lot to learn. Rolls are loosely made, and the sashimi looks and tastes tired, flabby and imprecise. They’re still four-star –just barely– and the service is warm, friendly and efficient, but they’re no longer outstanding or exceptional, merely solid. And skip the sashimi. I hope they can turn it around, and I’ll be back with high hopes, but very little of my old five-star review still applies, and that makes me very sad.

I was in search of a good Japanese restaurant and surprise, surprise I found one in Stanton of all places. From the outside, it’s nothing to write home about. But once you go inside, you’re transported to another era and another place. I really like the interior of this place. You know you’re in a Japanese restaurant. Service was great. Polite and very accommodating. I love it when they see my son and they bring out a kids place setting(and theirs was complete) Everything a parent would need feeding a young child, excellent. Here’s the rundown of the food: Kaki Fry(Fried Oyster) — Wow, I love love love this dish. The oysters were fried perfectly crisp outside and soft and juicy inside. The little dollop of mustard it came with was so good with it. Delicious! get this one. Katsu Don — This is one of my favorite Katsu Don I’ve ever eaten. «Pork cutlet, eggs, onions, special sauce and rice» very simple right? Yap, but much much more. The pork cutlet even though it was fried was very tender. The egg and the sauce combined to produce a very tasty dish. The rice(I love Japanese rice) soaked up all the sauce and was a good vessel for all the other ingredients in this dish. Yum Yum Yum! Tempura Udon — They serve the tempura shrimp and vegetables separate from the udon. Yes, that’s the way it should be. Some places hide their inferior tempura in the udon, not here. The tempura was perfect. The broth of the udon was very flavorful. I can have just the broth and I would be happy. Seaweed Salad — This was the only glitch in our meal, but it worked out for the better. My wife ordered the seaweed salad. Her intent was the main seaweed salad, the waiter brought out a side order of seaweed salad. I believe he charged us a dollar for it, woo hoo. It was good. But my wife was glad she only got the side portion. lol. If you’re looking for a good Japanese restaurant, look no further. Come to Mitsuyoshi, you won’t be disappointed. 2015 review #58

Mitsuyoshi has been near and dear to my extended family. My grandma and aunt used to go for lunch every week, as did my mom when my brother was literally in the womb. Unfortunately, their rating has gone down in recent years and I believe it’s entirely attributed to their slow service. FOOD– Their food is on par. It definitely is pricey — especially for dinner, but the sushi and sashimi are high quality. On my most recent visit last month, I ordered the sashimi chirashi bowl, which comes with miso soup and a side of garden salad. It comes with salmon, roe, shrimp, egg, tuna, octopus, and more on sweet vinegar rice. I was able to finish the whole meal but it’s also filling at the same time. Since it was my aunt’s birthday, she got a free scoop of green tea ice cream which I got to eat(nom nom!). SERVICE– Their waitresses are super nice and familiar with my extended family, but the service is just unforgivingly slow. Our party of nine waited an hour and a half for our dinner on a Saturday evening. Sure, our party was large but it’s not like the restaurant was packed. I literally finished 2 – 3 hot teas before our dinner came. Then I finished another hot tea before our check came. I could have finished more hot teas had my cup been refilled. Even die-hard loyals like my aunt and grandma complained of the service being unacceptable. They even said we should go elsewhere in the future if we plan to eat Japanese food. In summary, Mitsuyoshi’s food is superb and the ambiance feels authentically Japanese, but the service is slower than a snail’s pace. Eaters be warned!

Oldie but a goodie. My late grandpa loved this place so I have fond memories of this restaurant. Their food is always fresh and delicious. There is nothing complicated about the menu and nothing fancy but just good quality food. Not to mention their uni donburi lunch special which is a steal. So much uni and all for $ 19.

This is by far the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Made a reservation thru open table. Confirmed the reservation with the restaurant. Showed up and stood there for 15 mins with NOONE acknowledging my existence. Then finally was seated where I sat for another 15 mins and NOONE came to the table. I walked out and will NEVER go back there again. Worst service in my life.

From the time you enter to the time you leave, you are treated to impeccable service and the most delicious Japanese cuisine. Start with a cold Japanese micro brewed beer and a bottle of their«Mitsuyoshi» branded cold sakes. Order some interesting appetizers like a jalapeño stuffed with spicy yellowfin-tuna and cream cheese, the roasted okra, or a couple of deep-fried soft-shelled crabs to get started. Enjoy a variety of entrées from beef to chicken to endless choices of seafood and sushi. Save room for a dessert of the classic green tea ice cream to finish off a spectacular meal. Say hello to the people that keep this place running like clockwork: Masami, Harumi, and Toshi! They are a great team and always so very friendly and kind. We love Mitsuyoshi!

Okay. Not bad, not great. Had the Bento Box and hot tea. Nice lady as a server. Miso was okay. Tempura was okay. Sashimi was excellent. Should’ve ordered that as a meal. Really buttery and full of flavor. The male server was clueless. I would definitely come back for the sashimi and sushi,

I ordered the Charashi Sushi bowl. I really liked their assortment of sashimi and the sashimi tasted very fresh. They also added a sweet sauce to the rice as well. The bowl also included a bowl of miso soup and a side salad. The entire meal was very filling! They also served all kinds of Japanese side dishes and appetizers on their menu. I wish could order them all but I could only eat so much. If it’s your birthday, they’ll give a free bowl of green tea ice cream! The booths are nice and comfortable too!
