A great bar. I do not like going to where tourists go(even though I am one). I was left alone, which I appreciate, since I’m not a local. I feel like since I want to go where local go I should expect them to know I’m not a local. Anyway it is well priced and even though you can smoke on the inside the door was left open so I didn’t think it was too smokey.

I’ve been going to Murphys Tavern ever sence I was young enough to sneak in and get kicked out! LOL! But seriously, I’m from that whole area. In my 20’s it was a great place to meet up with my friends to get the night going but would head down the road to dance. As i’ve gotten older, and moved away, I still meet up with friends and we are mellow now and hang out and play pool all night when i’m in town. I even bought one of those plaques on the bar back in the mid 80’s. Don’t know if it’s still there but wonderful memories of partying there. Yes, the smoke is quite a pain and can get to be too much at times, but I still love the place. I think it’s the same bartender that use to chase me out too! LOL!

Way too smokey. Real shame because it’s awesome otherwise, but you will smell like cigarettes the rest of the night if you go here.

Anyone who knows me know that I love a good dive bar, and Murphy’s is without a doubt a good dive. Scratch that, Murphy’s is a GREAT dive bar. So you’re on the market for a locally owned smoky bar filled with mostly middle-aged locals where cash is king(I think they take credit cards now) and classic rock is playing from a CD player? Then Murphy’s is your place. It’s not a cute, tropical touristy spot by any means. Actually I’ll go so far as to say that Murphy’s isn’t for the tourist faint of heart. It is where you go to drink a Budweiser, play darts and pool, and maybe get hit on by a man with a mullet. Actually my last visit involved a construction worker/nurse — talk about a Rennaisance man. Strong drinks, colorful characters, this is my kind of beach bar.

This place is not just a good bar for St. Simons, it is probably my favorite bar on the planet. It has been owned by locals for over 35 years and maintains the same vibe, year after year. Classic rock always wafts through the speakers, and gets progressively louder as the night goes on. The serve the coldest Budweiser on the island and the mixed drinks are large and cheap. Just don’t order a fru-fru drink here. There are cool classic American oil paintings on the wall, three pool tables(75 cents a game), and free darts. It also has a fireplace for the cooler months and lots of bookshelves and rustic furniture. The only downside is the constant cigarette smoke. I don’t think they have gotten the memo on the non-smoking trend in the rest of the world. I think that is just another remnant from the 70’s era when this bar was born. The clientele is generally older, and mostly locals. However, it does get hoppin’ on the weekends and occasionally hosts a live band. The bands are usually local, usually classic rock, and usually good — at least the few I have seen. Don’t miss this spot when you are in St. Simons. Unless, of course, you like fru-fru drinks, or can’t abide a little cigarette smoke.

Murphy’s is certainly a dive bar with a little extra. If you are looking to just chill and relax and maybe carry on a coversation with someone; then Murphy’s is the place to be. It is a nice little dive bar with pool table and a living room setup complete with fireplace. And the prices can’t be beat, they serve the cheapest booze on the island. My main complaint about Murphy’s is the smell of cigarettes. Everyone in there smokes.

I used to go the Murphy’s nearly every Friday night. It is a great bar, good atmosphere and a generally a lot of fun people there. Murphy’s is a good place to go hang out with friends and meet some new ones and play some pool or darts. It’s been quite a while since moved away from St. Simons but I have great memories of Murphy’s

You want to hang with the locals? Don’t go to Brogen’s, go to Murphy’s. This is the place where my uncle used to get into late night fist fights. It’s the place where you leave smelling like an ashtray and the place where you’ll probably get hit on by an old man with one tooth. I took my parents here once and a scary guy at the bar asked my mom where she was from. When she responded«I’m from St. Simons»…he said«well I aint never seen you in HERE before». Yeah, I don’t think mom has been back to Murphy’s. Man, I miss that place…

My cousins and I decided to check this place out because it was supposedly the«happenin’ place to be.» Alas, once we were there, we found out that it was not really happenin’ at all. It was cute. The décor was interesting and different. I had a pool table. But the clientele was a lot older than we were(40s+). It was a pretty quiet scene, and didn’t have much of a «fun» or «party» atmosphere. This is more of a laid-back, chill place. For instance, the section that we were seated at resembled a library(bookshelves, books, and all). The good thing though, for a New Yorker such as myself, is the prices. For $ 3.50, you can get a GIANT(and by «giant,» I mean a full pint-glass) vodka/cranberry, and it’s mixed STRONG. Hoorah.
