Dobbs Tire & Auto Centers

I have been a loyal Dobbs customer for years. I used to go to the Dobbs in Ballwin and I never had any problems. Now that I live in Brentwood, it just made sense to get my oil changed at this location.
After picking it up, I drove my car to a nearby restaurant. When I went to start my car, it did not turn on. Somehow within the time I left my car for the oil change and me driving to the restaurant, my battery had stopped working I’m not sure if this was just an unfortunate coincidence or some mistake by Dobbs. Either way, I felt taken advantage of as my $ 90 battery replacement cost me nearly $ 200. Suffice to say I was severely disappointed and will not be going back to this location ever again.

Great staff, always exceptionally friendly and work hard to get my car in and the work done quickly. I’ve always disliked getting my car serviced and I finally feel like I have a mechanic I can trust!

I had brakes put on and to bring car back three times for adjustments plus unnecessary fees charged.

I have taken my car to a different Dobbs location since getting my first car as a teen. I’ve always had good experiences there, so when my car had a flat tire and the Brentwood location was closest, I thought I could trust them as much as I’ve been able to trust the other location.
Wrong.
Not only did I have to wait more than two hours (and fair enough, it was the last of the month and I had no appointment as it was an emergency), but they also failed to accurately diagnose and fix the problem. That said, they somehow had time (and the audacity) to look for and talk me into other «fixes.»
As soon as I paid for the new tire and other «needed» repairs and left, my tire pressure light came back on. I pulled back in and asked the employees if that was normal and to please double-​check the work. I was told «don’t worry about it; you’ll have to drive about 50 miles for the sensor to reset» in a condescending tone that made it clear how little that guy respected me.
And so off I drove, still trusting these people.
The next day, I drove to work. So far, so good. Then, an hour or so into my workday, security alerted me that I had a flat tire. Again. The same one.
I called the Brentwood Dobbs back and, to their credit, they did pay for towing and fix the tire for free. But it shouldn’t have happened. I trusted them to actually bother to look at the wheel and tire (and again, this despite finding the time to identify other alleged problems they could charge me for), and I brought it back as soon as the light came on again.
I am deeply disappointed in the unethical, unprofessional work done at this location. I will never be back, and this fiasco may have cost the Dobbs location I’ve patronized for 15 years my business.

Good price on a Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor. However, I waited 2 and a half hours for them to complete this simple job.
Edit: Not Surprisingly, upon completion of job, I found out they installed a sensor that is not compatible with my vehicle. They had to order the correct part from the dealer and re-​install proper part.
Please re-​think using this shop. Sometimes it’s worth paying a bit more to get the job done right, in a reasonable time-​frame, the first time. I was sucked in by the price and wish I would have stayed away.
The manager is a nice guy but unfortunately that isn’t enough to keep me coming back.

Absolute worst experience I’ve had trying to get work done on my car since I’ve moved to St. Louis. I was charged $ 150 to diagnose a check engine light and air conditioning. I was then quoted $ 2,000 on repairs I’ve had done elsewhere for half that. No help at all, I was told never to go there and now I know I should have listened. Rip off.

Friendly staff and speedy service for an emissions inspection! No appointment needed if you arrive between 8 and 4 Monday through Friday.

The dishonest and condescending service I experienced from Mark & Mike (the Brentwood managers) is almost funny, now that I have heard from others that Dobbs is horrible & I have read the bad reviews everywhere. It’s just how they roll. We purchased a battery with a 5 year warranty. One year later the car had to be jumped several times to start. On many occasions Dobbs kept insisting the battery was «good.» (Of course they said would happily replace it under warranty —IF they thought it was bad — and claimed they wanted me to be satisfied) As a final resort, I had no choice but to purchase a new battery from an auto repair shop the last time we were stranded. Beforehand, I asked Dobbs to please talk to the mechanic to see where the discrepancy is. They refused, saying that can’t trust anyone else. The battery had no reserve and would only charge about 170 instead of about 500. Later I took the bad Dobbs battery to a different Dobbs, and they said «yes, it’s bad.» I went back to Brentwood Dobbs for a battery refund and, no surprise, THIS time, AFTER I told them about the other Dobbs, now they tested the battery as «bad» but now, Of course, wouldn’t refund me for the new battery I purchased elsewhere. Of course, they again claimed they would have done so otherwise. Why would I even want another battery from Dobbs when they played so many games with us, wasted our time, inconvenienced us and put our safety in jeopardy.

These people are incredibly deceitful. Went in for my inspection, they failed my car and told me that I had to make a $ 1500 repair in order for them to pass me. I told them that I would take my car elsewhere for a second opinion and the honest mechanic told me that no repairs were needed. Another classic case of taking advantage of a young female who they assume won’t question them and will shell out $ 1500 no questions asked, in order to get them to pass me on the inspection. I’m sure this tactic works for them though, so you’ve been forewarned. Thankfully only lost out on my $ 36 for the inspection. WILL NEVER RETURN.

Just had a flat repaired here and was overcharged for such a simple repair. $ 35 for a plug! When asked why it was so expensive, I was given the excuse that the bigger tires cost more. I drive a small sports car with 18″ tires. My fiancé had his huge 20″ truck tire fixed last week for $ 15 at Midas. I don’t trust this place and won’t be coming back.

I have now been here 2 times, and both have been strictly out of necessity. The prices accurately reflect the overstaffed, up to date facility, while their service does not.
While every time that you have to take your car in anywhere, you cringe at what they are going to come and tell you, this place has been far and away the worst I’ve experienced. I do not trust them in the slightest. If you’re looking for tires, they may be ok, but the mechanic services are horrendous.

Just came in to check the price out on some new tires. They with their sale were 40% cheaper on the total cost to install and alignment then one of the dealerships
The place is clean the salesman couldn’t be nicer and it only took an hour and a half in the middle of a Saturday. I highly recommend this place.

I bought my tires through Dobbs so every time I need a rotation it’s covered under their warranty. They do a good oil change too. The only down part is that it’s in a very prominent area so you should really make an appointment and not just show up in order to get in and out. Their waiting room is nice, but there is the lingering smell of fresh rubber that goes with the display tires that I’m not a huge fan of.
The people there are professional and very helpful, especially on keeping you informed regarding any auto maitenance. They don’t try to weasel you into getting repairs you don’t need (it’s happened to me at other companies!). It’s not easy to find mechanics you trust but their business model and attitude make me come back every time.

I brought my vehicle here to get inspected. I was shocked at the repairs and the costs that they had claimed needed to be done. An example was the pads, rotors and calipers supposedly had to be replaced. I got a second opinion at a local independent shop and only my rotors and pads needed to be replaced saving me a few hundred dollars of unnecessary cost. I believe that Dobbs will identify a problem and will try to extract as much revenue from that repair as possible even replacing parts that don’t need to be. I believe they’re more concerned about their bottom line (they’re paid on commission) than they are with doing honest work. I will never do business with them again.
Interestingly enough… See Josh S.‘s Review from 8÷15÷2011. Looks like they consistently are screwing people over with the «your car’s brakes have grinded down to the calipers» BS. I feel like this location and the manager (Mark I think) need to be held accountable for trying (and probably successfully) to cheat people out of their money.

I made an appointment for 8:00 AM for a state inspection and oil change.
I went to Starbuck’s in Target, had a cup of coffee, checked my email, and shortly got a call on my cell the job was done.
35 minutes!
That is great service!

Avoid this place at all costs. My wife and I have both had oil changes performed here which has led to new issues with both of our vehicles following the service. We will never give them our business again.

I stopped by on Sunday to get a slow leaking tire looked at and they were «too busy» to look at it. I could drop it off (really, drive on the donut tire for two days while they fix the tire?) or make an appointment for sometime during the week.
Came back on Tuesday still having the problem and they gave me the same song and dance (we are the busiest store in St. Louis). So I make an appointment for a few days away
I drove around and a smaller station. When I drove up and asked, a mechanic came out and looked at the problem immediately and 20 minutes later I was fixed and on my way. On, yea, this smaller station, all it’s bays were full, the waiting room was full of people waiting and their lot had several vehicles waiting to be worked on.
I understand being busy but being a tire sales company that offers warranties on their tires, then can’t find the time to work on them indicates priorities are wrong. Sell the customer tires, but don’t worry about them coming back.

I used to be a loyal and happy Dobbs customer. We have purchased at least 3 sets of tires and many oil changes and minor repairs. Went in today for a regular oil change. I have paid $ 17.95 (recent special) and $ 24 .95 in the last year. Was quite shocked to learn that the price was now $ 34.95. I complained to the manager but to no avail. Basically unconcerned about my past history and loyalty and not caring about me as a customer. I should have taken the car back but needed the change. Being upset a few hours later, decided to cancel and get the car. After calling to cancel and pickup the car, was told it had not been done. As we were leaving the house though, they called back and for some unknown reason it was already completed. As we went to pay the price of $ 34.95 plus tax and inflated environment fee (which is based on a percentage of the oil service price but not based on the amount of oil recycled. Seems odd and somewhat wrong.) I showed the the manager the prices of oil changes at some of their competitors which were $ 19.99 (NTB, CARX, and Midas) and $ 21.99 at AutoTire not to mention other some of the oil changing places that were also cheaper. He was again unwilling to look at the prices and uncaring. I did not expect him to match the price nor did I ask. I just wanted them to reduce the price to one that I had paid recently of maybe just give me some consideration. Again, so much for customer loyalty. Nothing offered nothing given. Never asked what would make me happy. I am sorry but there are other tire companies and service centers that might want my business. So silly of me to believe that Dobbs would honor their goal of «maintaining an outstanding reputation and long –lasting relationship» !

My review is about their tire service and I had a great experience with them. I needed a tire replaced on my SUV and had a short window of time to do it between work and an appointment I needed to get to so I tried to make an appointment. They didn’t take appointments as late as when I could get there but the person on the phone took my name and told me to come in and they get me fixed.
I got there at the designated time and told them the latest I could leave to make my appointment and set about waiting. I was getting a little nervous when 10 minutes before that time came and my truck wasn’t done but sure enough, I was checked out and driving away at exactly the time I had specified.
It’s the little things like that and the fact that the manager (who turned out to be the person I spoke to on the phone) remembered my name and what tire I needed when I got there that make me want to return. I was completely satisfied and the price was competitive with other places.

I’ve been to Dobbs once for just an oil change. Not only did it take almost two hours, it cost almost $ 50! I’d rather support friendly local mechanics who charge in the $ 30 range and get it completed in less than 30 minutes.
