Wine was great, but what set this place apart from others was the phenomenal service!

Anna Marie was an unbelievable guide! We did the reserve tasting and for someone who had just began working at the winery, she seemed like a seasoned veteran! Sooooo impressed by her, the wines, and the atmosphere. We felt like the royal family! Thank you again, Krug!

Out here for four days and was glad that I came to Charles Krug Winery by Peter Mondavi Family. What caught my attention was first the beautiful vineyard in the front entrance and alongside the parking lot as you make your way in. They have roses at the end of each row, which breaks up the monotony of green from every other vineyard. They are located directly across from CIA. I was dropping hubby off at CIA and decided to come here on a whim. Carol, my wine host, was so nice and provided valuable information for a well-​rounded trip in Napa/​St. Helena. You get to taste five of their red and white wines for $ 20. I liked three of the five and bought two reds. Gotta pace myself on my first day here! The experience was great and I would definitely come back and recommend!

This was our first stop after the Napa Valley Wine train. The host was very engaging with a wealth of information. The tour was a nice blend of history and wine information. The tastings were nicely done and a couple offered food pairings. That was nice but it would have been that much better with some bread to neutralize the palate between varieties.
I don’t think I’ll ever have the impression of the laid back lifestyle being alive and well in Napa. It seems from the train to the wine tours you are on the clock. Bathroom break? Okay, 2^nd door on the left, you have 46.5 seconds!
Conflicting goals I guess. We come for the experience, they see it as a time management/​turnover challenge.

Nice experience in a sunny afternoon! The staff are super helpful even we didn’t join the tour and she offered to take photos for us. Bought two bottle of red wine after tasting that. We didn’t have the sampling, which is $ 20 for 5, a good deal if you have enough time and do not need to drive a long way!

Was invited to the winery for a industry event a few weeks ago and there was no way I was missing out on this awesome spot! I visited Charles Krug Winery a few months back for a hosted event and was very impressed by the grounds, food, and wine and told myself that I needed to make another stop at this spot in the future. Having the chance again, I jumped at the occasion, grant it they were hosting a large industry event, but still were serving food prepared by their culinary team and wine from their site.
Charles Krug Winery is one of the original wineries in Napa Valley and it is a special treat for anyone visiting. Their staff is very friendly and will answer any questions that you can throw at them. As mentioned above they serve food with some private wine tasting/​pairings, which are superb! Yes, it is Napa and you will pay a pretty penny, but in this case you get what you pay for and that is great service and wine/​food. Make sure to take a tour if you get a chance to visit as the area is very picturesque. Another added bonus is you are only minutes away from the beautiful town of St. Helena! Definitely a vote of mine to toss this winery on the list of spots to visit if you are doing the Napa Valley tour.

What an experience! I had come to Charles Krug for a Unilocal event for a small group of 18 peeps, to try their food and wine paring as well take a our the grounds and learn about the history of the winery as well. We were taken care of by Denise, who was so kind and took the time to talk to everyone. We were free to wander around while the other peeps arrived.
As for the pairings, they were fantastic! They have four items on their tasting menu (winter menu) that you can choose from, a warm and super tasty polenta paired with Sauvignon Blanc which is perfect for this weather. It was creamy and and came with some tasty lil cornbread biscuits that yelled «EAT ME!» The Sauvignon paired nicely because it cut through the creaminess of the polenta and refreshed the palette.
There was also a winter bruschetta paired with a merlot, while it was good, the flavor were a bit more subtle then the polenta.
Next up was the stuffed cremini mushrooms paired with the Pinot Noir… Just a note about me and mushrooms. I hated them. They were my enemy with their squishiness…
But that was before I had these… they were so unbelievably tasty!!! I blame it on the pancetta leeks, and the ricotta. To top it off, the Pinot Noir just enchanted the flavors they were much more stronger with it. They were so tasty that I was tempted to get some more, or at least taste enough to try to make my own.
Oh dear mushrooms and Pinot, you converted me.
Lastly there was the meatball slider. Now I love me a slider and a meatball, and while it was tasty (brioche bun, :whispers: I love you), the olive tapenade over-​powered the other flavors, but it did pair well with the structured Cabernet and the arugula salad was nummy.
After the feast we got a sample of the biscotti dipped in dark chocolate, I could have stolen the entire tray.
What I found to be a nice touch to the food and wine experience, was that there is a coffee bar as well. While I didn’t try the coffee (Equator), it is a smart choice to offer, it would perk you up after having some lovely wines.
Denise took us around the grounds and the building (I need a house that looks like this space), and gave a bit of history about the winery. She let us know that they even have a culinary garden (which my sis and I took a stroll in) which the students from the CIA source their food from. The barrel room was super nice as well, which was nice and chilly (brrrr).
Overall it was a truly lovely time out in St. Helena, I would recommend if you’re looking for some lovely wines, bites and walks, that you take the time to take a mosey on over to Charles Krug.

I received an invite to visit Charles Krug and to experience the Vintage Select Wine and Food Pairing. I am ashamed to say that I have never visited Krug in all my years living in the North Bay. What is so awesome about this is that the winery is still owned and operated by The Peter Mondavi family and they have updated the facility with modern features however it still retains that beautiful old world charm. Step inside to the big and beautiful «barn» room which overlooks the floor to ceiling glass enclosed barrel room. They offer two different types of wine and food pairings, besides the normal wine tasting. We were offered the Select Pairing, which featured the Estate Reserve wines and a small plate of individual food «tastes» to go along with each wine.
This particular Wine and Food pairing is quite expensive and of course it is because they are offering you tastes of their wines that retail for over $ 100 each. They produce the heavier reds and delicious Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley is very well known for. What a treat to taste such delicious and refined wines. The Chef selection of food tastes that day were high in flavor and quality and he seemed to know how to «match» the right food flavor with each wine. We left very satisfied and well educated about the Peter Mondavi Family and everything that this beautiful Charles Krug Winery had to offer!

Is the ink still wet on your NBA contract? Are you employee #10 at the tech firm that just debuted their IPO? Or maybe you just live large, realizing that life is not a dress rehearsal?
Here’s a tip: Gather up 7 of your like-​minded friends, book your seat at the «Vintage Select Wine & Food Pairing» ($ 120 per person), and let your day begin. Stop for breakfast first. This is a food pairing, definitely not a meal and besides, you’ll need something in your stomach to soak up all that fabulous Family Reserve and Limited Release wine.
Even though this event gives you and your cohorts a personal tour guide, one who will tell you the storied history of the oldest winery in the Napa Valley, show you around the grounds, and hold your hand (not literally) as you make your way through the wine and paired food bites, this is not my top reason for recommending a trip here. That came when this guide, at the end of the tasting in the private Vintage Select Library, asked us to let him know if we’d like to try any more of any of the wines. Why yes, I would. Even though I’d not thrown down the $ 120 myself (thank you Unilocal,thank you Kevin, thank you Charles Krug Winery) these were excellent wines and I felt personally responsible for ensuring that somebody got their money’s worth.
Charles Krug Winery has been beautifully restored with the main tasting room looking like it was designed by NapaStyle. All dark, moody wood and high ceilings in a voluminous space. It’s the antithesis of many modern winery tasting rooms and it’s nice to know that you can experience it even if you’re not living large. Wine tasting is available in the main tasting room for as little as $ 20 (tasting fee waived with minimum purchase) and I personally find irresistible the idea of their Winter Wine & Food Pairing in this space. For a mere $ 18 you get your choice of 1 small plate (e.g. Tuscan Meatball Slider, Brown Butter Polenta) plus a glass of Charles Krug wine from a list of 4. Who can’t afford that?
Even more interesting is the olive branch this winery extends to its Napa neighbors. With proof that you’re a Napa County resident tastings are complimentary for you and a guest. I certainly need to work on my Napa friends list.
In all seriousness, Charles Krug is a beautiful winery making some gorgeous tasting wines and it’s worthy of a visit. Anyone wishing to get to the heart of how it all began up here will be well informed by experiencing the place where it all began. And if you want to show your friends just how you roll don’t miss that «Vintage Select Wine & Food Pairing».

A lovely winery. Historic building that has been freshly updated in a modern style. Spacious. Can accommodate large groups.
Wine prices range from $ 18 to $ 100 per bottle. The wines listed under the Napa valley group are the least expensive. They are the wines that you can find widely distributed. You’ll find them at Safeway and probably at discounted prices. The Reserves and limited releases are significantly more expensive and sold at the winery exclusively. Arguably they are worth the elevated prices as the wines are more bold, refined, nuanced, and have quite a bit more flavor complexity.
The tasting menu is enjoyable for what it is. But not up to the standards of the St. Francis vineyards (Kenwood, Sonoma valley) award wining food & wine pairing. Here at Charles Krug the single plate has 7 morsels (and I mean small, small portions) that are paired skillfully with the wines. The pairing of the ½ teaspoon size lamb noisette and the cabernet sauvignon is genius. That said the $ 120 price is not a good value, especially if you arrive hungry.
If you are a far flung tourist on a wine centric vacation, this winery should be on your visit itinerary. If you are a local resident, you already know other wineries that make just as delicious wines for far lower prices.

Grazie to Unilocal, our North Bay Captain Kevin B., and the Mondavi Family for inviting a small group of Elites to experience The Vintage Select Wine & Food Pairing on Sunday Funday! The memorable tour began at the historic Redwood Cellar, followed by a guided tasting by our docent Bob (aka Clark Kent). He poured the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc while doing a fine job with the storytelling and sharing Mondavi’s passion for vino. Peter Mondavi was the first Napa winemaker to use French barrels. Bob also mentioned the movie «A Walk in the Clouds» was featured in the barrel room of the historic Redwood Cellar. Keanu Reeves was standing in the same room, whaaaaaaaa? Fascinating stories and rich in history! I love being transported back in time, if only the walls could talk.
We were treated VIP-​style to a curated fine dining experience in the winery’s private library, featuring a selection of gourmet specialties paired with six Charles Krug Estate Reserve & Limited Release wines. The pairings were palate-​pleasing, and the Chef explained everything in detail. We pleasantly enjoyed the following with our fellow Yelites:
— 2014 Limited Release Sauvignon Blanc + Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam on Brioche + Citrus Salsa = aromas of white peach mingled with hints of lemongrass. Lime, grapefruit and subtle mint flavors are offered onto the palate with a subtle creaminess.
— 2012 Family Reserve Generations + Warm Winter Bruschetta with Prosciutto, Black Kale, Acorn Squash & Robiola = the current release of their proprietary blend has toasty aromas filled with boysenberry, red currant, and brown sugar.
— 2011 Cold Springs Cabernet Sauvignon + Cocoa-​Rubbed Noisettes of Lamb with Cabernet-​Infused Cherries on Rosemary Skewery = cherry flavors endure in the mouth-​feel of the wine and mingle with firm tannins, toasted oak, and cranberry.
— 2012 Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon + Villa Parmesan = with a dark garnet color, cassis and cherry aromas, the wine is supple with flavors of blackberry & currant. The velvety tannins and fine balance create a long, silky, finish.
— Lot XVIII Zinfindel Port + Point Reyes Bleu Cheese Espuma = a savory composition of ripe berries, this elegant wine lingers on the palate, slowly drifting to a chewy, yet supple finish.

Beautiful romantic place that would be great for a wedding venue or a special event. The lawn with a huge picnic area would be a perfect setting for a garden wedding. Another notable feature is the architectural and art on display. It is a historic building with beautiful scenic views.
Interesting history where Cesare and Rosa Mondavi, Robert Mondavi’s parents, purchased the winery in 1894. It is actually where Robert Mondavi started his wine career and eventually built his own winery in Oakville, California. Charles Krug winery is now owned by Robert’s younger brother Peter Mondavi and Peter’s family. This is a family-​owned winery in its fourth generation with a history of European winemaking tradition and values.
Private tours and tastings are by appointment only and reservation is required. I was fortunate enough to participate with 17 others in an intimate Unilocal Event. We were given a private tour of the barrel room, their Award-​Winning Redwood Cellar Tasting Room, and the Hospitality Center. Such beautiful architectural design… it’s no wonder they won the ‘Best of Wine Tourism Award for Architecture & Landscape, 2015′ by Food&Wine Magazine. The tasting room had a contemporary design with large, welcoming bar and lounge.
So much to talk about and I have not even touched on their wines yet! We had sips of their signature wines including their popular ones: Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. We enjoyed these fine wines as we paired them with food bites. They have picnic tables both the front and back lawns and are for guests and visitors to enjoy. Thank you for the hospitality of the wonderful staff and to our host, Denise. Overall, great afternoon spent at the Charles Krug Winery.

Beautiful tasting facility. Last time I was here, two years ago the were in a tiny narrow building.
I am a club member and go for their BIG blends. Our tasting guide was even able to accommodate my niece with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay options.

Our experience at Charles Krug {Peter Mondavi Family} was one that we will never forget! My parents set-​up a tasting for us here as they have worked closely with Peter Mondavi wines and even had them to our house for a wine dinner a few years back.
Annie took amazing care of us and made sure that we tasted all of their fabulous wines. She knew SO much about the winery & family history, their grapes, the geography; Literally anything and everything that you want to know about their wine, she has the answer! {Note: We were here for 3 hours!}
We took a break {with our new friend from Switzerland, Ralf} in the middle and enjoyed a fabulous wood-​fired pizza on their lawn. It was to die for! The weather and setting were just perfect. Right now, they have pizza on the lawn from 11 AM –4 PM. This was so nice as many wineries do not serve food and towards the end of the afternoon, you’re most likely in need of a snack. :) You can also order wine by the glass to enjoy with your pizza.
The best part of our experience was a tour of the barrel room! Annie let us sample ‘futures’ wine {100% Cabernet} straight from the barrels. The Howell Mountain Cab straight from the barrel was our favorite of the day!
Last but certainly not least, Annie gave us beautiful chocolates to pair with their Port and holy sweet tooth, both were to die for! We went home with happy palates and will 100% be back the next time that we visit Napa/​St. Helena!

This is a beautiful winery with amazing wines. The history of the place and the expansive grounds and the beautiful structures on the grounds make it a must see– especially if you’re into history of Napa and wine making (I am!!). The staff were friendly and were really passionate about the wines and the winery and seemed very loyal to their aging winery owner. If you can go on a tour, then do it! It’s really worth seeing the barrel room and the beautiful buildings.
I especially liked the cabs!!! So delicious!
