The oldest winery in Napa Valley, Charles Krug recently renovated its historic Redwood Cellar, turning it into one of the region’s most stunning Tasting Rooms. Named one of the «Top 10 California Tasting Experiences» by Food & Wine and winner of the 2015 Architecture and Landscape Award for Best of Wine Tourism, this is the winery that put Napa on the map. A must-see for anyone interested in the legacy of Napa Valley winemaking. We offer several tasting options daily, including barrel tastings, private tours, and exclusive tastings of our limited release wines. Walk-ins are welcome, or call to make an appointment.
History
Established in 1861.
Charles Krug, Napa Valley’s first winery established in 1861, has been owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi Family for three generations. Family tradition is the foundation of our winemaking and grape growing on our Napa Valley vineyard estates.
With eleven vineyards located in four of the most prestigious Napa Valley sub-appellations, the majority of acreage is planted with noble Bordeaux varietals.
We are committed to sustainable farming using natural alternatives for optimum growth when applicable. We use native vegetation on fallow acreage and have more than 150 acres in the Fish Friendly Farming Program, preserving local fish and wildlife habitat on riparian land bordering the Napa River and along Conn and Rector Creeks in Yountville.
«Treat the land with respect,» said Cesare Mondavi, «and it will show in the wine.» We do, and it does.
Growing grapes and making wine is more than a family business; it’s a way of life, for our generation and those that will follow.
