There are very few things that can convince me to make the trek out to St. Charles. I’m just not a fan of the area, to be quite honest. But then I heard about the Adam Morgan foundation’s annual fun run. The Adam Morgan foundation is an organization that provides support to families with autistic children. Hmm… a good cause? Running? A 7pm start time? Okay, count me in. This was the 2nd annual AM fun run. It was sponsored by Fleet Feet, and it began in Frontier Park in Old Town St. Charles. The fun run featured a 10K run, 5K run(or walk), or a 1.5 mile walk, so it definitely catered to all abilities. Pros and Cons of the race? Pros: A really good cause. Good race support with lots of volunteers and water stops. Cons: If you’re doing the 1.5 mile walk or the 5K, you’ll be surrounded by tons of people. I see that as a good thing. However, I chose to run the 10K, and as a middle of the pack runner(not super fast, but not ridiculously slow, either), I was alone for much of the race. Seems like not many people(Maybe 30?) opted to do the 10K. I don’t mind running alone when I’m familiar with the neighborhood. But this race took us through the Katy Trail, which I’m not very familiar with. And about a mile of the race had us running alongside a trailer park. And running alongside a trailer park in St. Charles at sunset is NOT where this girl wants to be! Yikes. So while this one was a good cause, I’m not sure I’d run this race again. Maybe I’ll just donate money next year and leave the running through the backwoods part to the braver souls.
