Companion Animal Hospital

This is such a fantastic vet to take your animals to, I don’t think we will be going anywhere else as long as we are in the area. We’ve actually just brought our dog home from his stay at CAH. Everyone is so kind and caring, from the veterinarians all the way down to the receptionists. It was clear upon our arrival that everyone there sincerely cared about every animal that walked through their door, and that it wasn’t just another job for them.
Our boxer needed surgery and emergency treatment after swallowing some fabric and developing pancreatitis. Dr. Villar made time to see Flash as soon as I called (on a Thursday morning during their usual surgery times), and all throughout the day they updated us on the results of the different tests he needed and how he was doing, even going as far as to send texts from their personal cell phones when we couldn’t answer calls. We were talked through all of the different options, and Dr. Villar even took the time to go through the X-​rays and tests, the most likely ways Flash’s situation could play out, and all of the different options we had. She never pressured us into making one decision over another, merely laying out the facts, giving her professional opinion, and letting us decide. Every time we went to visit Flash while he was there, he seemed as happy and comfortable as he could be given the circumstances. They kept him the first night to stabilize and rehydrate, and when it became apparent things weren’t moving, they performed surgery on him the very next morning, and kept him one more night to make sure he was safe to go home. Today when we went to pick him up they even worked wit us to figure out a payment plan so we could afford the quality of care that Flash needed (they say it’s not something they normally do, so it just goes to show how accommodating they can be when their clients really need the help). Really, everyone involved did everything they possibly could to help all of us and make a horrible situation a little more bearable.
Honestly, everyone at Companion Animal Hospital seems to go above and beyond anything we expected upon first bringing our dog in. The techs are incredibly friendly, the veterinarians all seem invested in the well-​being of the pets, and it really feels like a family. We wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend CAH to family and friends, or to take any of our other pets to see Dr. Villar again.

Really nice people, and reasonable rates. It is convenient for me too. The Vet and the assistants are very helpful and informative. I really like this place, and so does my dog.

I’ve been taking my do to Dr. Kelly for 8 years. We have added a cat to the family and dr. Kelly is gracious enough to see both at the same time. She and her staff love out animals like their own. If dr. Kelly ever relocates, I would follow her in a heartbeat!

One of the most important aspects for me in choosing a Veterinarian is their interaction with my pet. Dr. Jennifer Kelly has far exceeded these expectations. Her level of caring and interactions with us and our pets has made Companion Animal Hospital our choice for our furry children for 8 years. From regular examinations to the sadness of putting a beloved pet down, this facility has been there for us every step of the way. Dr. Kelly and her staff understand someone who has pets with special needs and is there to help in any way they can to assist you and your pet. In 2012 our 8 year Rotty had cancer, she was a big girl, Dr. Kelly and Laura came to my home to assist in taking her back to the facility to allow her to cross the Rainbow Bridge. The most important thing for me was the compassion and caring for both my family and my pet that was exhibited that sad day. The entire staff practice is built on the best interest of your pets well being and overall care.

They are great. They remember who you are, and all of them are dedicated animal lovers.
If you want a coldly professional, sterile, spotless and super-​futuristic practice then look elsewhere. If you want a practice that treats you like family, and you don’t mind getting to know the staff on a more personal level with their humanity intact, then looks no further!

We have been bringing our beautiful boy Chessie here since last March when he was given to us from a family member who found him as a stray. He is a long-​haired tuxedo cat. Not knowing much about his previous 5 years, we depended on the Companion Animal Hospital Staff to determine his health background (as much as possible) for us. We have always gotten in and seen someone quickly when there is an urgent issue. Our boy is a frequent flyer so we have seen all the doctors and probably all the staff members. They are always attentive, listening to our concerns. The doctors explain everything clearly. The front desk has always been welcoming and helpful. Also, I just love seeing that little grey kitty when I come in!

We trust the techs and the vets and Companion implicitly with our animals. They were our cats’ vets from the time we got them at 6 weeks until now. Unfortunately, last year we had to put one of our cats down at age 17, and the vets and staff there couldn’t have been nicer and understanding. We’ve been to other vets since we moved to Alexandria, but we keep going back to Companion. We just can’t see us going anywhere else.

My animals became patients of Companion Animal hospital in 2008-​09. From the moment we first took my cat Goliath through the doors I have been more than impressed with the level of service provided by all of the staff. Everyone has always been over the top helpful no matter what the situation.
I have always highly recommended them to anyone looking for a vet, and will continue to do so!

For a week or so my cat’s eyes became increasingly icky, crusty, red and swollen. New to the area I didn’t have a regular vet and we were going into the weekend when we realized his issue was probably reaching critical mass. Of course I hopped on Unilocal to see what I could see. Bright and early on a Saturday morning I crated my cat and wisked him to CAH to be there when the doors opened at 8am. A staff person explained they don’t have a walk in service per se, however, if I wanted to return after the doctor arrived (9am) I could wait in the lobby and take my chances of getting in somewhere in the day. I said that would be great! I went home, grabbed a book and came back at 9am.
I barely waited an hour and they were able to work us in! The doctor and vet assistant were informative during the entire process. The Doctor did what she needed to do with his eyes: checked it, swabbed it, shined a special light, made a diagnosis, put medicine in his eyes, etc. In addition we worked in a check up and a rabies shot. All of that went great. The handling of the cat himself was awesome. Then the doctor went to wipe the spit off my cat’s mouth. For some reason, this was what my cat decided was more than he could handle. And he totally went feline Cujo right then and there. Literally, like he was howling and lunging as though he had just been possessed — I was absolutely mortified!
The doctor and vet tech handled it superbly. They were able to tag team with a towel and catch my 11 pound alien cat to get him back in his travel carrier all the while being calm, cool and collected and talking SO nice to him AND me. Literally he even bit me when I attempted a capture. It was CRA-​ZY!
All that and my cost was about $ 225 — walk in up charge, shots, eval, medicine, everything. I thought that was great pricing. I’m SO happy to have found an amazing vet clinic. I will definitely try to remind them next time that they can do whatever they want to the cat and he’ll be cool, just please don’t try to wipe his spit!

Been going to Companion for over a decade. Very friendly staff. Fornt desk can be a bit unorganized (spacey) at times. They have a big fat cat that lays on the reception desk often and besides being little unprofessional in my opinion, drives the dogs nuts! The lobby is a little grimey and the rooms are looking a little dated. I don’t remember all the staff’s names, but Dr. Lemke and the other ‘vets’ are very good at listening and good with my dogs. The one stocky, dark-​haired tech is absolutely great every time. The new flamboyant male tech and the other young female that seems to deal with cats just seems really ditsy (in fact I think her name is Mitsy) to me every time I deal with her. Neither of them add anything positive to the reputation of this place other than they are fellow animal lovers, but not confidence-​inspiring. The techs also usually handle the checkout which is always much more expensive than I expect. They don’t like writing scripts for heart worm or Frontline for you to purchase elsewhere/​online. The bottom line is that they are convenient, friendly, and the vets themselves competent so I keep going.
Had a bad experience with Hometown Vet in Franconia a few years back with another dog being manhandled to have it’s nails trimmed and ending up with spay incontinence after surgery. Not sure they are even still in business, but I would choose Companion over them.

They have been great. They know a lot about dogs/​cats. Not too much about specialty animals (reptiles, rabbits, fish, etc)
The best thing about this place is the service. They are absolutely amazing.

I have been going to this vet for almost 2 years. They are the best vets I have ever been to and I move around a lot. I believe all the vets are female. I have seen both Dr. Kelly and Dr. Lemke and they are wonderful. Everyone who works there is very kind and loving toward pets and humans alike. The prices are very reasonable and better than the overpriced vets in Alexandria. They never recommend excessive services and are very mindful of budgets while giving your pets the best care possible. Please give them a try!
