Grand Victorian At Spring Lake

Whenever we stay in Spring Lake, we always stay here. The place is cozy, facing the ocean and is actually a huge bargain when you consider what you are getting. The rooms are nice and in the style of a bed and breakfast and the people who work there really care. Parking is easy and you can walk out, cross the street and walk the ocean boardwalk in the evening or morning. If you are going to the Breakers, this place is actually better and is right next door.
The restaurant is separate from the hotel and is just as amazing.

I stayed overnight this weekend with a girlfriend so we could enjoy the shore without having to drive home. Let me start by saying that Anita at the front desk was amazing! She was welcoming, offered to help us in any way including carrying bags, and explained everything we needed to know about our stay. It was also great to have beach chairs, beach towels and passes. It was also nice to have breakfast included in the morning, though it was super basic diner style.
The house itself was rundown and lacking in many ways. I went into it with a forgiving eye, but it was hard to overlook the stained carpets throughout, old shower curtains in shared claustrophobic stall, and over all general decaying of the small accents that could easily be upgraded or repaired.
Our twin bed room was facing ocean, so it was great in that respect, but ridiculously small with slopping ceilings, I hit my head multiple times.
For two easy going women, we had a great time because we were on the beach, and the beds were at least comfy, but for almost $ 300 it’s hard to justify the decaying house as worth it.

If you appreciate a cozy summer cottage over a decked out ocean front condo, you’ll adore Grand Victorian with it’s boutique bedding, antique wooden dressers and over sized vintage mirrors. Narrow hallways upstairs encourage quickie friendships and floor boards creak with glory, but a subdued pallet and meditative calm remind you that you’re at the beach to relax, enjoy and don’t sweat the small stuff. Plus, the A/​C in the room kicks butt and the bathroom was white tile and granite; the important touches where you’d want them. Careful though, some rooms require you to share a bath.
The B&B staff are genuine and helpful, often making sure to open the door for guests and offer tips on local eateries. Complimentary beach passes, towels, chairs, wi-​fi and a complete breakfast are included. Likewise, the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but varied service could use a looking at; not impolite, just a bit rushed in one case, dispassionate in another and overly formal in a third. That said, the food was reliable and our needs met easily and quickly.
Just next door is the large and impressive The Breakers, with a piano bar and outdoor patio with a more upscale feel. We spent an evening having dinner and drinks on their patio while watching an evening beach wedding. What could be more perfect and only steps away?
I would definitely return to the Grand Victorian as a quiet, clean beach, good food and drink and cozy room are just about the perfect recipe for a nice weekend at the beach in my book.

We stayed here this past weekend while visiting for a wedding next door at The Breakers, since the location was so close we figured it would be a perfect choice. It’s a very old B&B with a lot of character. The staff was very friendly and polite and we had a very quick smooth check in. I do have to say the room was extremely clean along with the rest of the property yes it’s not as «updated» as it could be but it wasn’t dirty by any means. We only had to stay here for one evening so it was completely do able for the «room situation». I personally have never stayed somewhere where you don’t have your own bathroom/​shower to use, and I can honestly say I would never do it again. It’s extremely uncomfortable having to walk down the hall to use a rest room that may be occupied by others staying in the «hotel». We personally stayed in room 20 and it was very small and had a slanted ceiling which made it very interesting getting in and out of bed without hitting your head. We didn’t use our complimentary breakfast «tickets» the next morning so I can’t tell you how the food was, but this location was very difficult to have a drink and relax. We honestly wouldn’t stay here again but it was a perfect spot for this trip. Rates were cheaper than the wedding block down at the Holiday Inn.

The staff was not welcoming. It doesn’t feel cozy. There are no little deluxe touches like turn-​down service. You will not find frosty glasses of iced tea or lemonade on the porch on hot summer afternoons; no plates of cookies in the kitchen; and no wine and cheese in the parlor on dusky evenings. There is no communal area, not even on the porch since the restaurant occupies the whole first floor and the deck, so forget the rocking chair with a book. The noise to all the 2^nd floor rooms is loud given loud restaurant below. The room décor is depressing, poor craftsmanship like some child did the tile work and painted the walls. No parking so you’ll need to search around for a spot and park far away for overnight parking. Noise from hotel Breakers on weekend from weddings during evenings. Only positive is location to beach and nice restaurant below as for a B&B it lacks many qualities you’d expect.

We live 5 minutes away, I was hoping this will be our go to restaurant. We were there for dinner tonight, DISAPPOINTED. Over price, limited menu, terrible service, waitress (Jennifer) never came check on us, they have dinner special menu, which no price on it $ 44.00 for cowboy steak, seriously ??? I could have filet mignon for that much,

The B&B was not anything like the photos. The room was very small and not well-​appointed. An example; rusted cover plates on the switches, an open fuse panel WITHOUT a door, particle board shelf in bathroom. The entire hotel needs a complete make-​over. IT is not worth $ 200 a night.
For instance; 1, if you would like to sit on the deck and enjoy the ocean view, there are only 2 seats available, which are behind the hostess stand for the restaurant. 2, the breakfast for guest is on the back page of the breakfast menu for the Black Trumpet. We sat down the first day and the waitress flipped the menu over and told us we got to from the bottom half of the menu. We got the ‘regular’ omelet (exactly as if is stated on the menu). 3, the WiFi is non-​existent. 4. You can not walk around the B&B when functions are going on. There was a sweet sixteen and bridal party there when we were there.
Not a great experience, a shame because the location is great. The building is falling apart. There is a permit for a new roof. The real trouble is the restaurant, the Black Trumpet. It takes up everything, makes the place noisy, eats up all the parking and their overflow wrecks the style of a B&B.
Find another place, Spring Lake, NJ is incredible, this B&B is not.

Walking in excited to spend the night near the beach, I was surprised to not really receive a warm welcome in, but check in was sufficient. We stayed on second floor that has a bathroom and king bed. The brightness of yellow and white was cheerful. The bed was firm and comfortable, except for the feeling of «sand» at the bottom near our feet… so I doubt the sheets were fresh. The carpet seems old, worn, dirty… but I had socks as I have learned to just bring while traveling. There is literally no wi-fi…especially not in the back of the house. The workers could have cared less, just shrugging shoulders, not sure how to make it better, and the wifi passcode from the restaurant Black Trumpet is unknown, and the owners were not reachable. No internet or business catch up. Not horrible, but many areas for the business to improve if they wished to do so. Breakers next door has a wonderful menu and beautiful space. The beach is very close!

Cute little hotel on the beach. You can’t beat this location, it’s quiet and right on the water. Breakfast at Black Trumpet (the restaurant on premises) is included with your stay — enjoy you morning on the patio with delicious food and ocean breeze. If travel with small children I would recommend you stay at the Breakers the next door — this place is better for couples or for families with older children.

Some of the rooms are super small and the place is in desperate need of renovation. However, it is right on the beach and not terribly expensive. If you are staying there chances are you are not going to spend much time in your room anyway. The restaurant downstairs is top notch — The Black Trumpet — and the breakfast, included, is really good. It’s not a bad place; I just wish it was better.
N.B — They have free WiFi but it’s flaky. I ended up hooking onto the hotel next door which was weak but stable.

Close to the beach, clean, priced right. Not real fancy, 1000 coats of paint on things. Needs a good remodeling and up date. For example, rooms have 1990 13 inch TVs. Carpet is old and worn. I would stay here if you are looking for a cheap quick get-​away. No pool so if ocean is cold you are not getting wet on a 90 degree early to mid June day. Breakfast was good, staff is friendly.

The Grand Victorian is a super oasis on the beach. If you want comfort and friendliness, this is the place. The rooms are smallish, clean and the bed is very comfortable. The Black Trumpet restaurant in the Grand Victorian is excellent! Great seafood and service. We will definately be back!

We stayed here as we were going to a wedding next door at the Breakers and were happy to see that they would not be strict on making us stay for a 2-​night minimum.
Spring Lake is a very beautiful part of the Jersey Shore, and we were happy to learn that we would be staying right across the street from the beach.
The owner was very welcoming and accommodating, Our room was up on the second floor and since we were there for a wedding we decided to get a room with a private bath versus the other rooms with shared baths in the hallway.
We felt our room was tiny– but found out later there were rooms smaller than ours! Overall the room was clean and the bed was comfy– a great bed and breakfast experience.
Unfortunately, we did not get to enjoy the breakfast part of our bed and breakfast experience, but we heard that it was good– we just slept too late!
