Evergreen Tree Care

Gary Cronk, Evergreen Tree Care arborist, stopped by to tell us the company that had trimmed our trees had done it incorrectly and that the aggressive pruning they had done would lead to heavier branches that would be more likely to break off and go through a roof. He suggested that we have our three huge fir trees removed for a total of $ 5K. Called the company that did the initial work and that does a lot of work around Bham. They said they will stand behind their work. My online research brought me to this series of bad reviews on Unilocal and I’ll not be asking Evergreen Tree Care to do any work for me.
Just a word of caution for our neighbors.

Worst customer service ever experienced… by far! I did not witness the sales job by Robb. It was a minor tree removal of one tree, and trimming of two other trees for my elderly father. I did become concerned however after seeing the resultant work. Evergreen showed up in advance of scheduled appt. and did the work while no one was at home to advise. They did a poor and incomplete job and billed credit card for full payment. My father called to inform them of dissatisfaction with job and unauthorized use of credit card. He scheduled a return visit to complete work and they did not show up.
My father called Robb to find out their where abouts and was told unapologetically of an emergent situation that took precedent over our scheduled appt. My father made a follow up appt. and meanwhile got a hold of credit card company to inform them of unauthorized use. I called evergreen office to get them to credit money back to credit card until completion of work, and was informed it would be done, but would take 5 – 8 business days. So far, money has not been credited to account. I am sure it is a delaying tactic, until they return to complete the work … and indeed they did return today for the re rescheduled appt … the new work is satisfactory, but endured some rude and obstinate behavior from worker. contacted office and also left a voicemail with salesman Robb about it. Robb texts me that he is in a meeting all day. Robb calls me at the end of the day (not exactly sure why?) and while i am giving him customer feedback, Robb stops me in mid-​sentence, pronounces me a liar, declares he was parked a few car lengths away from job, and witnessed conversation with worker/​customer and hangs up. if he was parked near the job, why did he not exit the vehicle to clarify customer expectations for his worker? Why, if he was in a meeting ALL DAY, could he simultaneously be parked at the job site. VERY WEIRD!!! whole experience consumed way too much time and energy. Subsequently blocked the credit card, for fear they would use it again.

I’d give them negative stars if I could. To put it bluntly, they are crooks and liars. I had them come out to look at a cedar tree, that was leaning against my roof line. After Greg, a «master arborist» was done looking around, he convinced me I had serious issues with other trees. After being quoted thousands of dollars, I told him I was going to have to wait on the other trees, and only wanted the original cedar removed. The day they were to come, a major snow storm hit. They rescheduled for the following week, and I told Greg I would be traveling on business. Greg assured me he would be onsite, overseeing the job. When I returned home, I was horrified to drive up to my house, and see they had removed the wrong tree! I called Greg immediately, and he apologized and said he wasn’t aware of it, because he had not been to my house since his sales call! Long story short, it took months of phone calls, and finally a visit by the «area manager» to settle the dispute. I was not entirely satisfied with the outcome, but was tired of being lied to and getting absolutely nowhere with this company. I was told Greg was fired, which I later found out was not true. I also learned from some friends, that they were quoted one price, but when they looked at the contract, it was considerably more. I must warn you that this company is overpriced and dishonest. Stay away from them!

Constant phone calls over the years telemarketing… based on that annoyance alone I’ll never use them.

Stay away at all costs. This company lies to their customers, have extraordinarily poor communication between the internal teams, and are likely to damage your property.
We first hired Evergreen 3 years ago via the salesman («arborist») Glenn for some trimming. This job actually went pretty well, and we were overall happy with their work. At the time, Glenn said, «if anyone tries to sell you tree work in the next 5 years, they are lying.»
Sure enough, Evergreen calls us regularly for a «free arborist assessment.» This year, we needed a failing Maple tree removed, so I accepted their invitation to give an estimate. I requested Glenn because he already knows my property, and they assured me he would come. Low and behold, Jeff I. shows up as the salesman «arborist» instead. I asked where Glenn was and he shrugged and said my house was now in his territory. Evergreen’s first lie — they never intended to send Glenn.
Jeff then walked my property and proposes over $ 9,000 of trimming work in addition to the cost of removing the Maple tree. While some trees do need trimming, I laughed at this because Evergreen’s last salesman (Glenn) told me 3 years ago that anyone who tried to sell me tree trimming in the next 5 years was a crook.
We hired Evergreen only to take down the Maple tree. They took care of the permit and having PSE clear the tree from the power lines. A month or so went by, we got rescheduled a couple of times, Jeff came out to inspect the job a couple of times, and eventually their crew showed up for the job. So far so good.
The crew looked at the tree they were supposed to take out, and told me they couldn’t do the job without using the adjacent Fir tree for rope rigging. And that they’d have to remove all the branches from the Fir tree up to 75′ off the ground. They had over a month to plan for this job, and yet they «discovered» on the morning of the job that it wasn’t safe as Jeff had bid it.
I objected that their plans would destroy the Fir tree. Jeff craftily turned things around by selling me a «make safe» trimming of the Fir tree for a mere $ 300 extra dollars. They sent out supervisor Michael to inspect the job, and he assured me they would *not* remove all the limbs on the Fir but «only cut the dead branches off.» I hesitantly agreed.
The crew proceeded to do exactly as they had originally said, even though I had Jeff stop them once to change their plan. The next lie /​lack of accountability and communication between teams. They cut *all* limbs off the Fir tree (mostly live limbs) and stripped it up to 75′ to clear the space for rope rigging the Maple down. They did take the Maple down roughly as planned, but the Fir was left in a horrendous/​embarrassing state (just as I had expected when they first told me the plan). All that was left was a tuft of green branches on the top ~15′ of the tree. The rest was stripped down to the trunk. Any untrained eye could tell the tree was wrecked. I told them they had destroyed my perfectly good Fir, and to remove it rather than leave me an ugly, dangerous mess of a Fir tree. So they took out the previously healthy Fir tree.
I was out of town when they finished the job, and I told them they were not to charge me for the balance of the contract until I inspected and signed off on their work. They agreed. Next lie. They charged my credit card two days later before I had seen the finished job.
I called the office to get them to reverse the charge. They cheerily agreed they would reverse the charge. 2 weeks later, that hasn’t happened. Next lie.
I called the office twice to inquire about the refund (so that I could pay on my terms, not theirs). The first time I was told they needed to check with the person in charge of refunds, and they would call me back later that day. When I didn’t hear back, I called back the following day and requested to speak with the office manager. Apparently she had «already left for the day, but she would call me back first thing the next day.» I left a voice message for the manager, who of course never returned my call. Next lie.
I have mailed them a letter requesting a refund for the $ 300 they tricked me into paying for the privilege of destroying my Fir tree, but I’m sure I’ll never see it.
Evergreen Tree Care are dishonest, disorganized, and incompetent. Stay far, far away.

Wow. Glad that I checked their reviews. Just had an estimate this afternoon and left with a bad feeling. We have a small yard only need a few trees trimmed. He told me that they have a $ 500 minimum and that would be his bid — in reading these reviews there are several services that have been done for less than $ 500. Plus, if there’s really a minimum, let me know before you come out and don’t waste both of our time. Two stars because he arrived on time for the bid.

Wish we had checked Unilocal first. They did a horrible job — tearing up the landscaping dragging branches around, leaving huge sections of tree trunk on top of our ground cover. And they broke the structure that holds our firewood. Hugely expensive, not worth a quarter what we paid for it.

Just got hit up from a guy selling this service. He was nice enough, but didn’t know much about trees. One red flag was telling me that the arborist would only need 10-​minutes of my time. Hmmm. Doesn’t sound like that’s enough time to really do a proper assessment… esp. with 10 – 15 trees to look at. I made the mistake of providing my name and number, but didn’t commit to an appointment. Guess I’ll be getting phone calls for a while. I feel sorry for the sales folks who have to try selling a company that has such poor reviews on Unilocal!But grateful for THIS service and those who bother to opine.

PSA — If Evergreen Tree Company comes to your house, please do not let them scare you into removing or pruning your trees. They are extremely aggressive, opportunistic and have poor tree knowledge and pruning techniques. They have found the perfect opportunity in my elderly neighbor and are currently spurring up a large evergreen to thin it (there is plenty of info to support this is highly frowned upon if you want to maintain the health of your tree). When asked why they were spurring, they said unless the client requests a spur-​less thinning and wants to pay more, that’s how they do it. WOW. Please do your research when hiring someone for tree care and/​or removal — they are not all equal.

Definitely should’ve hit up Unilocal before we scheduled with this joke of a company. NO reliability and ZERO accountability. After they cancelled an hour after the scheduled appointment, we checked Unilocal and on top of other issues, it verified for us to run. My husband refused to reschedule and not moving forward in business with this company is worth our $ 80 deposit. Too bad.

Hey! Guess what! I’ve never used this service and I will tell you why. A representative from Evergreen approached me in my driveway with a flyer and spiel about his company. We agreed to have one of their arborists come two days later and give me an estimate regarding 3 trees I was concerned about. One hour before the appointed time, the arborist called and said he would not be able to arrive for three and a half hours. He didn’t call again until 6:00 that evening to make another appointment for the next day. We agreed on a time and again I got a call stating he would be late. Again, no show. How stupid am I? He called again the next day and we agreed on another time to meet. You guessed it. No show.
How this company can stay in business is a profound mystery to me. Do not use Evergreen Tree Care. They are total flakes!

Want to be ripped off Evergreen is the company took me for 5000 dollars. I’m a senior citizen and didn’t realize what an outrageous price these people charge for work that other qualified noncommissioned tree trimmers charge. Ask your neighbors. These people knock on your door at all hours and when I tell them to leave they keep talking and pushing.

This company preys on ignorance and fear. John, the salesperson who called on our house literally talked in circles about how he’s got [x] years in the business and that he’s seen trees come crashing down into little kids’ rooms. Then he says that the service he offers is «hard to do». Folks, it does take knowledge and skill to cut limbs from a tree that is 40 feet in the air, that is true. However, it takes no more skill than a skilled carpenter that has 20+ years of experience to frame a house, and that carpenter makes $ 25 – 30 per hour. These guys were saying it would cost over $ 800 to clean up a Fir tree on my lot. That’s about 32 man-​hours at $ 25 per hour. When I asked him about how long it would take to do the job, he got really defensive and started yelling at me about how what they do is hard, how they need to have a second guy on standby and such and so-​forth. Bologna. There are one man shows that are extremely skilled and will clear a tree in a few hours. Remember, you’re thinning out, not completely chopping up a tree… Also, the greens up at the top do not weigh as much — it’s really the stuff in the middle that you have to worry about.
Evergreen, as a business as well as its salespeople are unethical. They get upset when they pitch to people who are not ignorant and hate being questioned about their process and pricing. Bad business.
For all the customers who gave this company anything over two stars — you’ve gotten ripped off, plain and simple.

Though we had decent service in the first couple visits, we tried to get a small job scheduled and we were stood up 3 times. It was frustrating that they would not return my calls when they were late on the days that the service was scheduled.
I think some teams are better than others and it’s too bad certain team leads have such poor communications skills. We won’t be using this company in the future.

Scam artist
Estimate was 800… tried to charge debit card 1100.00…never did 300.00 maple and «free 2^nd» apple tree… Turned me over to collection despite dispute. F em will not pay extortion.

I trusted a neighbor who wanted to share a bill for the service and didn’t read the reviews myself. Big mistake.
1. It took four meetings to get the trees sailed after they took down four limbs on the first trip and told me that they don’t do «charity work». The tree wasn’t even sailed.
2. I have a split tree that needed to be cabled to prevent it falling on my house. I just had to spend $ 400 to get a reputable company to come over and properly install the cabling which had fallen off the tree. Literally fallen off.
3. They use commission only sales reps to go door to door to sell their services even though most people don’t need it. Do you want your 70 year old grandmother convinced a tree is going to fall on her house? Don’t let these crooks keep scamming people.
Find a reputable company on Unilocal or Google in your area to do the work.

Well, they didn’t show up. If you like to have people promise you a date/​time and not show up… then call them… THEY NEVER DO WHAT THEY PROMISE. I have never seen anything like this. WORST customer service experience ever. I wonder if they know what being in the service industry means… to me it means provide CUSTOMER SERVICE to clients. HA!
They promise dates, then don’t know when/​if work gets done… and call…“did a crew come out and finish the job?” HOW DO THEY NOT KNOW WHERE THEIR CREWS ARE???
They get a big fat «F» from me!!!

It started out okay. Jason came over gave us a good price and pointed out things about our trees that seemed reasonable. The quote he gave us was lower than we expected and we said we’d like to have it done.
We waited a little while for a phone call, as expected, and he gave us a date that was when we’d be out of town, so I had him reschedule it. Well, they showed up while we were out of town anyway, and they did ¾ of the job.
I called Jason up and he came to the house the next work day to see what was done, and said he would send them back to finish the job on Wednesday.
1. Wednesday: no-​show, so I called Jason, he said they’d be there Thursday or Friday
2. Thursday & Friday: no-​show, so I called Jason and he said they’d be there Monday
3. Monday: no-​show, so I called Jason and he said they’d be there Tuesday
4. Tuesday: no-​show, so I called Jason and he said they’d be there Wednesday
5. Wednesday: no-​show, so I called Jason and he said they’d be there Thursday
6. Thursday: they finally showed up.
Needless to say, I talked to Jason far too much. It is a good thing I work from home, or I would have missed a whole lot of hours at work waiting for them.
The only reason I give them 2 stars is because they do actually do a good job… when they show up.

Do not hire this company. They frequently canvass our posted «No Soliciting» neighborhood and their sales people have told bald face lies and use high pressure scare tactics to get you on the hook. My neighbors said that the latest saleswoman grilled homeowners about what times they are home and looked over their shoulders and commented on their homes. Doesn’t give you a good feeling…

Very Disappointing interaction.
I agreed to a free consultation to map out a plan for the many trees and shrubs on my property, I want to hire someone and am willing to pay quite a bit. The arborist was 30min late to our consultation because he spent 20min sitting in my driveway talking on his phone. He then brushed me off realizing I had a lot of questions and wasn’t going to be an easy sell.

While outside enjoying a nice Saturday, a guy named Nick S. from this company drove through, soliciting our neighborhood for business. I usually do not give these type of salesmen a chance, but in fact I have already had two quotes for tree removal and I wanted a third. Plus Nick was very convincing about «neighborhood discounts» and if my neighbor and I scheduled on the same day it would be an additional discount. So, I scheduled an appointment for two weeks out with Nick. Two weeks later, they were a no show for me and my neighbor. To make matters worse, Nick was not answering his phone. Eventually Nick and I touched base the following week, and I again scheduled another appointment for just a few days later on the upcoming weekend. Needless-​to-​say, I was not surprised that they did not show up a second time. In the end, I’m glad I didn’t waste any time on these folks.

Just wanted to add that since their original visit to my home when I first moved in, I see their two enormous trucks FREQUENTLY on my street. I live in a rural area in East King County on an owner-​maintained unpaved road and these guys barrel up and down like it’s I-​90. They ignore the «private road» signs, speed limit and fail to employ any common sense or courtesy. We and the other neighbors have to spend our weekends filling the potholes these guys make — not to mention I have feared for my life when walking to get my own damn mail. Jeeze these guys are a bunch of JERKS and someday they are going to kill someone.

It makes me laugh that the only good review is from «Ron. M», who apparently joined Unilocal just to write his fantastic review of Evergreen. Yeah, that’s not sketchy at all. Like another reviewer said, read the filtered reviews. Anyways, on to my review:
Evergreen was supposed to cut down a few trees on a property of mine in the summer. The «arborist» we dealt with was Cindy. After the job was complete, we went to check it out and we found out they left one of the trees standing. We called Cindy and she would either not pick up her phone or would say that she’d call us back. Weeks went by, then months. We kept calling and the few times she said she’d come look at it, she would cancel last minute. She was rude and completely unprofessional.
Last week, almost 5 months later, I finally called headquarters, who seemed understanding, took a few notes and said they’d help sort it out. I finally got a call from Cindy and she said she’d come out Friday. Friday rolls around and she cancels because of an «emergency» with her cats. Apparently, this lady has more emergencies than anyone I know and they all happen to be during the times she’s scheduled with me. She said she’d meet me Saturday morning at 10am. Saturday morning at 8am, I get a call and she says she has «stuff» to do and can’t make it. She said she would just go look at the property when she had time.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
How would I know if she actually looked at the tree or not, or just decided to make up a lie about how that tree wasn’t part of the contract. It is completely unacceptable to cancel this many times on a customer. Then she had the audacity to tell me «with all due respect» that I should have called her months ago when this first happened. Again… ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I offered to show her phone records.
We will see if she ever shows up and if this tree ever gets taken down. Maybe I will revise my review if that happens. This whole company obviously doesn’t know how to treat their customers, or the value in repeat business. We are trying to develop this lot and this delay due to Evergreen, Cindy and her crew’s mistake is costing us. I’m in the engineering/​construction industry and would’ve been able to give Evergreen a lot of business had they been even remotely competent, or cared about their customers at all.
Don’t get scammed — avoid Evergreen at all costs.
