Hampton Jitney

They are kind of cheap. The busses are not well maintained, the bathrooms are dirty and a lot of their busses look old. The drivers are all good, they get you there and back in one piece but as far as everything else it’s meh. They need busses at later times. They need to send email reminders about trips booked in advance so that if you miss it at least they can claim they did something for you, because you’re not getting a refund!

I’m sorry about the negative experiences other reviewers had. I usually steer clear of businesses with bad Unilocal ratings/​reviews, but in this case, I did not want to rent a car or take the train to/​from the Hamptons. I’ve taken the Jitney several times to and from Manhattan and within the Hamptons. This is a good option, as renting a car is pricey in peak season and I don’t like the traffic stress if I’m driving. On each occasion I’ve used the Jitney, I’ve been satisfied. First, I call their information number as many times as I need to to ask questions. Tip: Do this to conform your name if you reserve online. Also, call them if the jitney is running late. The operators at their number have been nice and helpful with scheduling and in assuring me that the bus is on its way but stuck in traffic at such and such stop 2 miles away. The price is affordable. The buses were not packed even in peak season. I got a window seat, and although I can get carsick on long rides, I was very relaxed with water and snacks and with the air conditioning and fell asleep. There are some reviews about awful toilet smells in the entire bus, and I was very worried. I did not use the toilet, but there were no smells on the bus. There were also no animals/​dogs, as a reviewer has written. Attendants were professional. they seemed very young, like they were working a summer job while in high school/​early college, but they weren’t there to party. It was very quiet on the bus, and there wasn’t any noise or partying. In contrast, the train to the Hamptons can feel a little spring break and is super crowded and sweat/​food smelly. The train also has a very limited schedule, and makes only few stops in the Hamptons. A good tip is to maybe take the train there and take the bus back to Manhattan. A few negatives 1. Yes, the bus can be late, but this really cannot be controlled with the Hamptons traffic. 2. They did make a somewhat long stop, but I slept through it. 3. The AC can be very strong. Bring a sweater. One major area for improvement: Please, please have better lighting at your stops. I’ve taken the jitney back to Manhattan late at night, and there was no light by the stop. The jitney was late, and had there not been one other woman passenger waiting, I’d be uncomfortable late at night. There were bushes and trees, no light, and no sidewalk at the stop, it was kind of in the bushes. There is enough money in the Hamptons to take care of this.

Working with the Hampton Jitney was smooth and easy when arranging transportation for some of our guests between their hotels and our venue. They were quick to respond with the initial contract and always answered our questions quickly. They were also very helpful when we decided to add an additional stop on our route just a few weeks before the wedding. Everything went great and we wouldn’t hesitate to use them again!

This Company has been around forever and the buses they use feel like it too. They are uncomfortable, very loud, and they squeek like hell which drives me Crazy. Worst part: the price and the bus attendant with the worst B. O!!! Everyone on the bus cringed every time he walked past. This fleet needs a major overhaul.

The service gets worse and worse, and the price has increased. Today a man tried to pay the $ 32 fare with two 20 dollar bills and he was told they carry no change. The attendant emphatically stated it was not her responsibility to have change and if she could not get change she would not be able to give the man any.
Sounds illegal!!!
In addition during our trip the bathroom toilet overflowed and the waste water flowed down the aisle. The attendant said «oh yeah»

My friends took the 5.40 pm train out of Penn Station and made it in Greenport by 8.30 pm
This is a 5 pm bus which won’t make it to Greenport before 9 pm
Hampton jitney is now 1 hour 10 m longer than train
And this is not a one off observation
The culprit being the needless stops totally out of the way (Calverton) where they sacrifice the time of 80 passengers to drop off a couple

Switch to train as I do most of the time

I had a great experience on the Hampton Jitney over Labor Day Weekend, and am a little perplexed by these negative reviews. I suppose the situation can vary a lot depending on traffic and fellow passengers but I went into this experience with trepidation and were pleasantly surprised. We were scheduled to depart at 5:30 from midtown on the North Fork bound jitney. Though the bus was a little late leaving, and then seemed to stop forever on the Upper East Side picking up more passengers, one we got on the highway, we zoomed and even beat the destination time by 30 minutes! The way back was less pleasant because vacation was over, but I was able to do some work using the WiFi and the water and snacks were much appreciated. I will definitely use the jitney again, and would recommend it without reservation!

Id give this company ZILTCHO starz if i had the option … the HAMPTON HERKEY JERKY is the most barbaric way to travel. I watched an elderly man fall flat on his back due to an insane driver … ive reported heavy footed drivers who brake ~ gas ~ brake ~ gas … i genuinely question if all drivers are truly legal licenced drivers. They do all sorts of absurd stops to scrimp or earn a ticket sale galavanting deep into Queens during rush hour … for what ??? To pick up one sale. O’vey !!! AVIOD THIS STAGE COACH … ITS TERRIBLE.. NOT to mention the FLEET IS OLD … RATTLE BOXES … NOISE … HORRIBLE NOISE CREEKING CLANKS … VIBRATIONS

On 8÷19÷15, I took the Jitney from East 68^th Street to East Hampton, and the bus attendant, this hideously rude man named Sam was by far the WORST person I have ever had the displeasure to be stuck on a bus with. He had a major attitude every time someone asked a question, and when I asked which seat was the handicapped seat (as I am temporarily on a cane due to major knee replacement and had requested it) he said very dismissively that it wasn’t available. I had to foresight not to expect that he would assist me with boarding, but my heart broke when a very unsteady 80+ year old woman boarded, and he just watched her with a snarl on his face, not making a move. He should be FIRED.
I do hope the management of the Jitney sees this review and takes him to task.

Not a chance. Next time I’ll drive to Ronkonkoma and take the train. The hostess is surly. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. The seats are tight, and I can’t get wifi – I usually drive in tithe city, but this time, being alone, I figured this would be a better convenience.
Shame on you, Jitney. This is another missed opportunity.
Now that I have read many other reviews, I KNOW this was a mistake.

And, on the bus returning to the city… a 4+ hour jaunt from East Hampton, the hostess’ announcements were unintelligible. And when we asked her if you could get off after their 79^th and Broadway stop she scowled… NO VAY! NO VAY! So much for manners on the Hampton Jitney.
And when you call to discuss with a manager the operators won’t put you through to Dispatch until you tell them your whole arduous story all over again… and then they «un-​plug».
Terrible attitude when you’re paying for a service.

At least a half hour late. Last time in January, an hour late, and not due to weather. Always seems to be a mix up with reservations.
Also every time the bathroom was opened smelled like a sewer. Service has definitely slipped since the company expanded service.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL
Let’s be honest, if you’re trying to get to Manhattan from the Hamptons, this is one of just a few options available to you (other buses/​trains run far and few between). They have buses leaving almost every hour during high season. But be warned, you will not enjoy your experience.
RESERVATIONS:
If you’d like, you can reserve a seat on a bus with one of two options: 1) Pay now ($ 28) or 2) pay on board ($ 32). BEWARE, if you miss your bus for any reason with the «pay now» option, you will NOT be guaranteed a spot on a later bus. You will have to PAY AGAIN.
This is because with a reservation, they «hold a spot for you.» Understandable if they followed their own rules, but they don’t check names and reservations until 30 minutes into a ride. Meaning, they fill the bus to maximum capacity without any regards to reservations. Yes, I’ve seen this happen and watched many people get left behind as they stuffed a bus nearly full at one stop and were unable to take more than just a few at the next stop. Again, leaving many others to wait until the next bus… a full hour later.
LATE LATE LATE:
These buses are almost always late. Generally between 15 – 30 but I’ve waited at most 50 minutes to board a bus in East Hampton to Manhattan. There were no apologies made on behalf of the staff, instead just rude mutterings. Nor do they make any effort on behalf of customer service to right the situation.
STAFF:
Completely unknowledgeable in regards to the operations for which they work. Don’t ask questions, they won’t be able to answer you anyway. Hospitality? Don’t expect to find any either. The attendants aren’t trained any further than collecting your money and shoving Goldfish in your face.
THE BUSES ITSELF:
Often a hit or miss. Usually pretty dusty and dirty but not unbearable. While walking in on the crammed bus today, I immediately dashed for the first open row of seats only to find a giant wad of freshly chewed gum sitting erect, in the center of the window seat… Nice clean-​up… Next I made my way all the way to the back of the bus, to the last available row. Broken seats. Not just broken as in they can’t recline, (some of which can’t)… But broken as in every time we stop I slide forward and when we pick up speed I slide back.
OVERALL: AWFUL.
I can’t think of any other company that takes less pride in their employees, service and product. I guess being the primary bus service from Manhattan to the South Fork, they can get away with it.
Will I stay away? Probably not. Maybe I’m masochistic. Who knows. What I do know is that they have a lot of buses running throughout the day. Sh*tty buses if that.

I’ve taken this bus a few times, it’s pretty nice! Leather and material seats, plenty of leg room, they allowed me to put two bags underneath and one carry on. Pretty convenient since it leaves from multiple parts of the city, I hopped on at east 86^th. One of the nicest parts? Snacks on the seat when you get on!

I’ve taken the Hampton Jitney for over 15 years now with my family, having grown up in Eastern Long Island and have lived in the city 10 years now. On overage, I probably take the bus 20 times (20 round trips a year).
The service from the employees is always great but they are constantly late. They used to be on time to the minute. Not anymore. Expect to be 30 – 60 minutes delayed. Their WiFi is sorely limited too.
They also run a stupid JFK/​airport connection that adds on at least 45 minutes. On a bus that holds 65 people when full, what sense does that make when only 1 – 2 people get off. During the summer, their busiest time, they optimize load factor (filling up bosses from Easthampton /​Westhampton /​North Fork lines)…over customer experience and getting there on time. I get trying to make a profit. But it’s bad now.
If you’re going to Sag Harbor or further east (East hampton/​amagansett/​montauk), what a nightmare. At least 4 – 4.5 hours.
For the first time in 10 years, the train looks like the better option.

On June 7, 2015 we took the Jitney from the Tanger Outlet stop in Riverhead, NY into the city. In the evening, around 7:00PM, we were picked up in NYC, and took the Jitney back to the Tanger Outlet stop in Riverhead, NY. The ride into the city was great, however, the ride from the city to Riverhead was terrifying. I sat in the first seat, directly behind the driver, and I had a «front row» seat to the driver falling asleep numerous times, fighting to stay away, and weaving in and out of his lane during the ENTIRE trip. I feared for my life the entire ride, and hope to never put myself in such a vulnerable position ever again. It goes without saying that this type of behavior behind the wheel of a giant bus carrying at least 50 – 60 people, is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE.

STOLEN LUGGAGE!
My luggage has been stolen on 39^th Street around 7:40pm on May 17^th 2015.
It is a black hard bag with roller wheels and a pull out handle. My designer accessories, jewelry, wardrobe and shoes are in the bag.
I am furious with the disorganization, and the lack of attendance by the staff. I will have to file a police report, contact the insurance company and file a lawsuit against the company and staff.
I just hope my bag gets returned.

Several times each year I need to travel from Riverhead to Manhattan. The LIRR is often painful as the schedule is limited, I have to change trains in Ronkonkoma and Jamaica (ugh). On Monday, ⁵⁄₄ I needed to get from Riverhead to a hotel near Grand Central Station. Did some homework and realized the Hampton Jitney was the way to go.
I booked a seat online for $ 19. It was really easy to do this. The train was precisely on time at 1040 AM. Was able to quickly secure a window seat near the rear that had a duplex outlet to charge my phone and computer. I was very comfortable. Moments after our departure I realized there was free wifi on the bus. Does it get any better? Yeah, it does. They served me a complementary muffin + water. Yes — all for the $ 19 I paid.
Arrived precisely on time at 3^rd and 42^nd. My hotel was 2.5 blocks away. The staff on the bus were wonderful.
This is the only way to go from the East end of Long Island to Manhattan. Wonderful company, exceptional service.

Awful customer service. Booked a trip online. Missed my bus by a min, tried to get on the next one and they wanted to charge again. Sorry but really??? Not to mention the lady on the phone nor the lady at the bus stop were pleasant or helpful at all.
It’s a shame.
