How is it possible I haven’t reviewed Beale St. yet?! My father practically LIVES at Beale Street. He likes to hang out, shoot some pool, and drink some drinks.
I, for one, love their barbeque, their buffalo wings (aahhh I’m salivating as we speak), and their service. It’s a nice neighborhood place, nice décor, and friendly staff. They can accomodate bigger groups and are good for kids too. Good blackened fish as well!

I almost only make detours for BBQ. There is no other food I go out of the way to find. Beale St BBQ has some solid ribs. A full rack of St. Louis Style ribs come nicely dry rubbed with an excellent ring of pink smokiness in the middle of the meat. Tender meat, if only slightly over done. My favorite kind of mac and cheese, cheddar cheese melted into macaroni. Coleslaw was fresh, flecks of black pepper. Freshly made corn bread and an assortment of house made sauces. If I recall correctly, the owner actually spent a fair amount of time in Memphis learning how to smoke meat to perfection.

One of the better BBQ’s I’ve had in New England — we got the «sampler» which included a shredded beef brisket on a tasty jalapeño cornbread (more sweet than spicy though), ½ rack of ribs, ¼ of a chicken, 2 links of sausage and 2 sides for just over $ 20 — just enough food to split between 2 people. I liked how the cornbread didnt get soggy with the beef brisket on top, and the meat fell right off the bones with the ribs. We also got the collard greens and mac&cheese, both were ok.
The servers were very friendly, but you did have to call them over if you needed anything. My fiancée got a mojito and it was nothing to write home about though. We did enjoy their BBQ and Habenero sauces, and bought some bottles to bring home!

Pretty good bbq, especially for the area. I’ve been here a couple times and got the same thing, the pulled pork sandwich, which was quite good.
While the sandwich is good, I prefer my pulled pork with more bbq sauce then they put on. They do provide a bottle of bbq sauce on the table so you can add more if you choose, but I feel like it cools down the sandwich since it hasn’t been heated up. Their french fries are really good, although they’re probably just from a bag, but the seasoning they use is pretty amazing!

Fair. Buck’s is better. Also the Beale St. in Bath is better. Sorry, SoPo

You know it is your favorite restaurant when you know the managers and staff by name. This is my favorite local place and without doubt the best BBQ in the area. There is something for everyone (the blackened haddock sandwhich is excellent). The wife loves the Raspberry Russian Lemonade, give it a shot.

I got Beale’s a second time, and I think the first time I went it was an anomaly. Ribs were great, cornbread was great. Was stuffed full of meat, fat and sassy when I was finished.
Upgraded from 3 to 4 stars. I guess I hit them on an off night before.

I get the same thing every time I come here, which is the shredded brisket served atop a slab o’ outrageously buttery cornbread. I can’t not get it — it’s too wonderful and meaty and saucy for me to think of trying anything else. I do like to switch it up with the sides, though, and some notables have been the greens and the bbq beans. I also love their fries — though they are probably just regular frozen shoestrings, they do some mighty impressive things with a spice mixture. I call shenanigans on the mac & cheese however — this is a staple in a bbq joint, and they need to step it up beyond the serviceable but pedestrian velveeta-​esque thing they’ve got going on.
I’m not a big rib lover, but my husband – who considers the Memphis dry rub to be an art form – counts Beale Street as THE place to get his rib fix outside of Tennessee.

Moved to a new location on Broadway in a men’s club hall. The new atmosphere kind of sucks, but the food is exactly the same and there is still enough beer on tap that I tend to just black out anyway.
I eat plants but this is where the meat eaters always want to go. I order the burrito every time. It’s pretty good, actually.

This is a good restaurant — it used to be great. It is still my fav bbq place around though. Since they have moved to their new location, the food just doesn’t taste as good. Is there an actual change or do I just miss the atmosphere? not sure, but it’s still def worth a try. My fav: sandwich platter consisting of shredded pork on cornbread with cole slaw and a side of fries… the magic dust on the fries makes them! Oh, and if you are a fan of a good margarita, go for it — they make a great «top shelf» marg!

Beale’s is out of the way in Portland, situated just across the road from Portland Harbor. The building is a sort of red A-​frame with a huge neon «BBQ» sign glowing its welcome.
We went in and looked at the menu, and I decided to try the menu item the place is known for. We ordered the Triple, which is ¼ each of pulled pork, pulled beef brisket, and pulled bbq chicken. with choice of two sides: fries, potato salad, and rice. We doubled on the fries.
While waiting for our take-​out, the waiter/​bartender/​only-​guy-​not-​working-​in-​the-​kitchen brought us a couple of drinks ($ 5ea), and was friendly, funny, and efficient. The walls were decorated with Jazz and old times paraphernalia, Armstrong, Miles Davis, and even a clock with Elvis shaking his hips. Their motto is «Because it’s a long way to Memphis» and they have pictures of lobstermen lobstering while wearing the shirt to prove it.
The meat was incredible. The chicken was good, the pork very good, the beef unbelievable. It was very loose and not drippy or too dry. The fries were lightly dusted with BBQ seasoning, instead of doused like flavored fries I’ve had in the past. The jalapeo cornbread that came with the food was sticky-​gooey, and absolutely tears-​in-​your-​eyes delicious. Total: $ 17.16
They also have a book by the door for customers to write comments, and one woman explained the dreams she has about their cornbread. I think that’s a better review than this one.
