Been coming here for years since Jan 23, 2009. Dr. Chan is an absolute champion at what he does and goes above and beyond to ensure your complete satisfaction. My family and I have been coming for a while now and will continue to attend and recommend any family that is looking for a Dentist and office staff that defines complete superior service. Wish i can give 10 stars.

The second of the two procedures went great! Special Shout outs to «Elaine», I’m sorry for doubting the intent of your, «OPEN.AHHHHHH» as treating me as If I had a developmental delay. You are Kind, Loving, sincere, and an indispensable asset to that agency.
I greatly appreciate Dr. Ha for her transparency with regards to erring on the conservative side of potential options as well as warning me in advance about the aesthetics, or lack of, due to amalgam staining underneath my new composite. She was expedient and thorough and always intellectually engaged with all my questions and concerns. Your Charm, Wit, Expedience, and Efficiency, have done much to strip the demonizing of Dentists in my view. Thank You! Your the unsung Female hero of Healthy Smile and I unabashedly recommend your Services.
The transactional Staff, Cindy, in particular, was for more gregarious and amicable this time around so I had to add the additional star. To be forthright, when the transactional staff is out of sync with the Dr and Assistants, it feels like a Car Salesperson and the Financier. One sells the product; The other taxes you… basically, your a piece of meat with teeth at a Carniceria.

When anaesthesia wore off I had some problems with my bite setting even. Eating was problematic. I called in for an immediate revision and even though Dr. Ha was booked, Hero of the Day, Veronica at Reception, told me, «Come in now and Ill see how we can fit you in between visits». I had to wait about an hour and a half but the modifications were perfect. Thank you Dr. Ha for that impromptu procedure and thank YOU Veronica for expediently mediating the process. Greatly Appreciated. I love when professionals treat you with the same degree of concern and dignity AFTER funds have been rendered. Just another Feather in Healthy Smiles Hat…

1 star because of dishonesty. Overcharging copays. Of course recommending a deep cleaning because it pays more and they attempt to charge for irrigation-​addtl $ 160. (water is part of the treatment– ask your ins– don’t pay) Patients, beware and understand how your insurance works, once you sign that treatment plan, you may be screwed. No billing code, it will not be covered by any ins, therefore is a preference/​luxury not a medical necessity! Long story short, Dentist refused to do the treatment he recommended at the price of the contracted fee schedule! Were talking about $ 750 of overcharges. Dentist, why sign up with an HMO contract if you are not satisfied with the rates! Sadly, not all dentalcare providers care! Its not like they are doing it for free! For the office billers, you know damn well the robbery you’re committing! SMH

My family and I have been a customer of Healthy Smile for over 5 years. They are have a good quality of service, considerate and Dr. Chan will explain in detail what happens with teeth and what they can and can’t do. I changed my dentist from them to another provider in the same city, and while they had weird frills like essential oil defusers in the bathroom and a coffee machine, their service was not as good as Healthy Smile. I came back.
There are no frills here, but the staff will explain what is covered and not covered so you could pay as you need. The hygienists clean your teeth very diligently here. Between good, consistent service and friendly staff I’m satisfied to continue going here and recommend it.

I chose Dr. Chan and Healthy Smile as it was one of the few practices of my Dental DMO providers that had pretty good 4+ Unilocal ratings. Most reviews of other dentists were pretty dismal. Usually good dentists like to stick with PPO insurance, and dentists who take D/​HMO have more negative experiences written about them.
This office is not fancy, but very clean and well taken care of. I found Dr. Chan to have a gentle touch and demeanor as others have described.
I had a dental visit elsewhere where I was told no cavities. When I came here shortly after to start my DMO plan coverage, they told me I had several major cavities (underneath crowns) and needed major restorative work to be done. Though that was terrible news, I’m glad that he found the problems that the other dentist overlooked. It was a long process, and many of my visits were quite involved. It’s not fun, but overall I was satisfied with the level of care that I received.
Dr. Chan’s former partner (who worked more Saturdays) did not have the same gentle touch, but she was fine. I think she left to start her own practice. The support staff is pretty nice and the front desk woman always treats people well.

Always a pleasure to come see my dentist… And the staff, they are all so nice. I have been coming here forever, and have always left feeling clean and happy.

NEVER had i received dental work where i didn’t have to deal with pain… that is until i came here. Literally the first time i didn’t feel any type of pain and was taken care of to be assured there was no pain throughout the procedure. Definitely coming back here both the root canal specialist and other dentist were so nice

I am very happy with Dr. Chan and his staff!!! They were very friendly and tried to make me feel like home. I came in for a check up and cleaning and in desperate need of a new denture. Dr. Chan assured me that my new denture was going to be better than what i had. When i came in for my denture so i can take it home i didn’t like how it looked the teeth weren’t just right. So Dr. Chan said «no problem we will take care of you I want to make sure you love your denture even if it means that we need to start again.» So he did!!! We started again with my teeth. I felt much better and now we are in the process of my new denture. Everybody is so friendly the dental assistants Elaine and Nina are very efficient and friendly too! The front desk, Cindy and Veronica take care of me in the beginning of my appointment as far as my payments and future appointments so when Dr. Chan is done with my visit then I can just go, no need to wait! Also they help me understand my insurance benefits and plan out my whole treatment. Overall I am very happy and will keep coming for any dental work!

GREAT! friendly staff and dentist! After having a bad experience with another dental office I had to change to a new one. This will be my permanent dental office I loved it! I felt comfortable and welcome… The assistants are very friendly and kind I am so glad I finally found a great dentist! A+. They are open Saturdays and you can make appointments on their website that’s a PLUS!

First time patient and I was told the x rays and the cleaning would take 2 visits. kinda bummed but while I was getting checked up by Dr. Chan he said he could just do the cleaning right then. My last dental visit was less than 6 months ago and I was told I had no cavities. Dr. Chan told me I had 4! He did show me the x rays and explained where they are/​how deep the cavities are etc. which I appreciated.
I didn’t feel any discomfort during the cleaning or the check-​up which is always a plus. Dr. Chan was very thorough, kind and fun to talk to. I feel confident in his skills. The girl who finished up my polishing and flossing (not sure if she’s a hygienist or a second dentist in the practice) was super nice and fun to talk to as well.
Shout out to his staff who were still able to get me in even though I arrived 10 minutes late (stupid GPS)!

Finally found a place to take care of my smile. I no longer have a phobia of dentists!!!
I can’t tell you how terrified I am of visiting dentists. When I was growing up, I always felt like the dentists were not-​so-​fun experiences (I’ve had a cavity or two). The worst part was always the shots. I hate shots! Well, after over 4 years of trying to put off any dental visit, guilt kicked in and I decided to check out Healthy Smile Family Dentistry because of the Unilocal reviews. I was greeted by friendly staff and filled out paperwork with their assistance.
The office is very clean and the staff make the place feel welcoming, which is a huge plus in my book. When I sat in the dental chair, I met Dr. Chan and Joanna. They told me that I needed a deep cleaning, and also did some x-​rays to examine how bad the tartar build up was. Truth be told, I didn’t even think I had tartar build up– I just thought I had coffee/​wine stains on my teeth and only required whitening after a general cleaning.
Even though I floss and brush, they explained to me how food still gets caught in some areas that are hard to reach. Dr. Chan walked me through every step of the process, even when he was numbing my face with needles (bleh)! He used some gel that pre-​numbed my mouth before he gave me shots, and that helped A LOT. He even told me about his college experience about how students had to practice giving shots to each other; crazy! The story made me laugh, but also made me realize that he can sympathize with what I’m going through.
I do feel like everyone that assisted me went the extra mile to clean my teeth– especially since it’s been some time since my last cleaning. They were careful to make sure I was comfortable through the experience, even asking me to raise my hand if I needed a break. I’m glad they triple checked my teeth to ensure they didn’t miss any tartar and were very nice throughout the whole experience. I even took before and after photos for my family to see. My teeth look much whiter now!
They explained to me how to take care of my gum health, and even gave me a nice goody bag after the visit. Definitely found my dentist for years to come.

I started going to Dr. Chan/​Healthy Smile Family Dentistry because it was the closest dentist to my home that was covered by my insurance. But, it has turned out to be a VERY good choice.
The office is super clean, the staff and Dr. Chan are friendly and professional. And the do not try to sell you services that you do not need!
I always leave pleased by the service and having found them.

Because of overrated reviews on Unilocal,i pick this place as my first dentist with the high expectation that this place is going to be my primary dental office. Wrong!! The doctor was great with explanations on what need to be done with my teeth. All I did was got an x-​Ray and asks how my teeth are. The office staff gave me estimate on how much my out of pocket will cost. So I made an appointment thinking I might do 2 fillings out of #s fillings that dentist said I need. Though this office is within my network provider, my insurance doesn’t cover for any services that need to be done because this office only provides «special» fillings and cleaning. After reconsideration everything, I decided I am not going to get it done here because too pricy and insurance covers nuth from this office except xray. I called 12hrs early to cancel my appointment because I work night shifts. I called to cancel my appointment early morning. The lady on ph was rude to me as soon as I told her I am not going to do services with them anymore. She asked I need to pay cancellation fee which I never informed about during my first visit, so I said ok charge me. A month later I got statement from my insurance that one time visit here cost my insurance $ 1500+!! All I got was X-​ray! They never bill me appt cancellation fee so I never bother to let my insurance dispute the bills they charge on my insurance. Months from then, I called back recent to request my copy of X-​ray. 35 $ for that and lady told me I owe the office $ 75 for that one time appt cancellation fee. Seriously? This ain’t no Beverly Hills. I worked in rodeo drive doc office. Even there, not this pricey and we always informed pt from the beginning of cancellation fee. Seriously worst experience ever.

I love how easy it is to set an appointment here (you can just use their website or call in). I came in for an exam and a cleaning, and both visits have gone very smoothly. The receptionist was great about checking my insurance, the dentist did a good job of explaining the results of my exam, and the hygienist did a wonderful job with my cleaning. Parking is relatively easy, if the restaurant next door is not super busy.

There’s a reason why this place has such high ratings on Unilocal,Dr Chan & his staff are amazing! I used to hate going to the dentist, but Dr. Chan completely changed the way I feel about check ups & dental maintenance. His kind & gentle approach makes going to dentist appointments a lot less dreadful.
I trust Dr. Chan because he is honest. I initially came to see him because I was interested in getting veneers. He examined my teeth and suggested another route — a less costly route. Before seeing Dr. Chan I had consulted several other dentists, each and every one of them would’ve happily accepted my money for veneers. Dr. Chan was the only dentist who suggested another route. He could’ve easily made a large sum of money from me, but instead he suggested a more conservative procedure and referred me to another specialist.
I had a couple of fillings done on my teeth by Dr. Chan and the procedure was completely painless. He’s very gentle and always checks on you to make sure you’re okay. Dental check-​ups are never fun, but going to a dentist you trust makes the entire process a whole lot easier. I trust Dr. Chan & his staff and would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a new dentist.

I was an existing patient of this dental office then I got new insurance. Healthy Smile accepted both my old and new insurances in theory, but I was told I could not make an appointment because they were no longer taking new patients. Apparently they consider your work changing the insurance programs they offer to mean that you are now a «new» patient even though you have a) already been seen here, and b) had an appointment scheduled for months. One star for loyalty to existing customers.
On a side note you need to make your appointment several months out.
I personally find it hard to believe that they are actually that busy. Highly suspicious since dental HMOs often pay a fixed monthly fee regardless of what services (if any) are performed. Therefore, the more patients that are on the books that do not require (or are unable to access) care the higher profits can be. Nice way to boost profits at the cost of patients by dragging out/​delaying access to care.

Dr. Chan personally contacted me to apologize for the experience I had with the office manager. He informed me that it was wrong of her to refuse to provide me with the type of crown that I wanted in addition to attempting to overcharge me. Dr. Chan informed me that the office manager that I dealt with is no longer employed with his office. He was very apologetic and sincere and shared that he strives for all of his patients to be satisfied with his services.
Since I had a great experience with Dr. Chan, I explained that my issue was not with his work, but with the office manager. Again, Dr. Chan is an amazing dentist and also a very caring one. I appreciate that he went out of his way to contact me to personally apologize. He also waived the fee for duplicate x-​rays that I requested because of the bad experience I had with his office manager.
He’s a great dentist and I’m sure that anyone who receives services from him will be happy, especially because he has a new office manager.

I’ve been going here for a number of years now and that’s because I’ve found a dentist that is careful, considerate and works with you as a patient.
I’ve had a LOT of dental work over the years ($$$) due to an accident with my permanent teeth as a kid.
I love going here because you don’t feel like they are trying to rip-​you-​off with extortionate prices, they are a friendly office and most importantly the work and follow up they do is first class (for me bridges/​crowns etc). I have only good things to say about Healthy Smile Family Dentistry.

I drive out to South Pasadena from Monterey Park to get my teeth cleaned because Dr. Chan and his staff is the best! The place is nice and clean and the staff is very courtesy. Dr. Chan is the best in the business and I highly recommend this place to my friends and family.

Your teeth are yours forever… and it should only be trusted to someone you trust. I COMPLETELY trust Dr. Kenneth Chan with my teeth. He has been my dentist for the last year and his gentle hands and honest nature has me coming back every 6 months ON THE DOT!
Because I didn’t go to the dentist for many years during school, I have some horrendous teeth. I went to a dentist in Arcadia who was adamant about re-​doing all my cavities. I let him work on half of my mouth — he dug too deep and now I have a root canal… And let me say that he had to re-​do the cavities 3 separate times because they were too thick and I was biting down on them. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. ugh. I left that dentist right away and came to Dr Chan.
WORLD of a difference. He told me I don’t need to re-​do any of my cavities since everytime someone touch them, you shave off more and more of your natural teeth. He gave me a good cleaning, fixed a cavity that the other dentist had missed, and left the other half of my mouth alone. THANK YOU!
What else is great about Dr Chan’s office? His receptionists and dental hygienists/​assistants. Everybody is SUPER curteous and professional. I almost never have to wait more than 10 min (I do come in on-​time for my appointments) and I always get a reminder call the day before. On top of that, I’ve even been able to make emergency appointments within 24 hours.
Sounds pretty great right? He really is! I’ve recommended Dr. Chan to some of my co-​workers who really love him also. I’m very happy to write this review and give Dr. Chan 5 blazing stars he deserves! :)
