Forest Suites Resort at Heavenly Village

We got a Groupon for this place. I was able to book it w/​o any problems. The room was ready a little early and we were able to check-​in. The staff was very nice. We had a clean room. It wasn’t the fanciest place but it was clean and comfortable. My only complaint is the height of the shower head. I’m 5’7″ and I had to crouch a little to wash my hair. It was torture for my 6’4″ husband. The breakfast that was included was fantastic. The free wi-​fi worked. We were able to watch Netflix on the iPad. We would definitely stay again.

Very roomy apartment style suites with kitchen, dining and living room, and separate bedroom. Very quiet and bed is extremely comfortable. If you plan to use the sofa bed bring a Styrofoam pad as they are quite springy. The free breakfast is awesome: eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, cereal, Starbucks coffee, juice, bagels, potatoes, yogurt, and more. Also, the pillows are memory foam. So awesome! I will recommend this place to all my friends, family and colleagues at work. The WiFi is free.

Yes as previous reviews who were not quite as flattering the Forest Suite Resort is a bit dated, with that said I have to admit the rooms are clean, grounds nicely landscaped, housekeeping was friendly the front desk was more than helpful. By previous review they may have changed the front staff b/​c the young lady greeted me with smiles and was very friendly.
A great complimentary breakfast made our mornings complete. The kitchen provided in the unit was clean and made our stay affordable.
The resort has a small clean pool and hot tub. Close to shopping, casinos, Heavenly gondola, Raleys and many places to eat all within walking distance. How could anyone complain especially when there are so many deals with Groupon, Travelzoo etc. with some updating of the facility this resort could be better than 4 stars.

The suites are huge, perfect for families. Yes, the décor is a little dated but the location and size makes up for it. The free hot breakfast was more than I expected, bacon, eggs, sausage, cereal, pastries… Enough choices to keep everyone happy. The grounds are beautiful and you can walk to most places. I really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come again.

As a member of the Armed Forces, days and more so weekends off are far, few and well I don’t need to go any further. I am very disappointed that I had a whole weekend off to be able to take my wife away for one night for Mother’s Day, since missing last year due to a deployment. Of course this morning (Friday) I was informed that I was needed and required to stay on duty until Sunday (still have mothers day day off so I am fortunate for this). After calling the hotel they would not refund or even move my date to another weekend unless they charged me the whole 170 dollars as a penalty. They are completely unwilling to work with me at all. Please be advised my fellow Airmen, and Sailors if duty calls they will make you pay. Very very disappointing.

Of course Lake Tahoe is a beauty to behold but coming up to stay AND have such wonderful, helpful, friendly staff makes it even that much better. Regardless of the weather (which is beautiful this weekend) it would be perfect under a ton of snow or rays of sunshine.

This place was close to getting three stars out of me. I’ll get into where the nose dive was in a little bit.
First off, anyone who rates this place four or five stars was probably beaten as a child. It is what everyone says it is. Dated, a bit dirty, crap Internet, etc. The plus side is that it has reasonable prices and is a great location. Also the rooms are large and there is a free breakfast. Which is huge when you come with a family during ski season.
If it had decent customer service, and I’m saying that modestly, it would be a solid three maybe four stars. However the front desk has an unusual air of superiority about themselves. The concierge is not actually aware of what a concierge is and cannot be bothered to even put her book down to look you in the eye much less give advice on anything or God forbid help you out with something.
If you have kids and just care about a convenient place to stay with a free breakfast you might want to roll the dice. If you are with friends go ahead and pay the extra dough on Marriott.
The good news is that with a location like this it won’t be long until a management group that knows what they are doing comes in, changes the name, fires everybody and turns this place around.

I don’t understand how this hotel has managed to get one review above one star. The facilities are in evident decay, the rooms’ carpets dirty, toilets didn’t work; either one in both in our room and the worst part is they Charged us 350 USD a night taking advantage of the high seasonality and our trouble due to a mis-​reservation.
When we found DIRT inside a bathtub we asked for refund on the room and moved together to only one room they were not at all willing to help.

We called the morning of and asked if there was possibility for early check in, and they said they’d put me on the list and try to get the rooms cleaned after 11am check out. We get there at 2:30 and immediately were treated with awful customer service. The ladies at the front desk had attitude, no apologies, just that they can’t give out the time the room will be ready and nor and estimate. Every question we asked was answered rudely.
We go to sit at the bar to get a drink and rest our feet until the room was ready and the bartender says «hello what would you like» and immediately the woman who was checking us in, sat at the bar and said «actually, we are closed but it’s fine we will just serve you I guess». Why would we get asked for our order and then told it’s closed? Then, after agreeing to serve us, they only take cash and there is no atm nor a sign, wouldn’t agree to run and tab and add it to the room, because they don’t do that. Okay? 1 out of our 2 rooms was ready about 15 minutes before 4 o’clock check in. At 4:15 the other group went to check in for our «guaranteed» 4:00 check in and the room wasn’t ready. No apology, ZERO customer service. Told them to come back in 20 minutes. Almost 45 minutes late.
Two women came in our room after we checked in and used their keys without waiting for us to answer the door?
Next morning the room that’s room was 45 minutes late requested a late checkout due to them losing the 45 minutes the day prior and what we pay for. She has the audacity to tell her that she personally checked her in at 4 and argued with her. I cannot even describe how awful they treat their guests and not an ounce of trying to make their guests feel comfortable and taken care of. Like we are such an inconvenience.
For $ 350 a night, the only positive thing is the location. Just awful.

Nice place, but very old and run down. The window in our room was single pane, and simply by walking around, or other adjacent room guests walking around, would cause the windows to shake and make an annoying noise, which we didn’t mind too much except at 1am. The carpets were also nasty and needed replacement. The heating system was unusually loud and noticeable when active. There was a very musty smell in the walkway between the lobby and the outside corridor leading to the rooms. Oh, and the concierge? She was less of a concierge and more of an annoying Diamond Resorts salesperson who continued to try to sell us a timeshare. It’s too bad, because the rooms are large and the proximity to heavenly village give this place so much potential.

Absolutely terrible. Save your money and book at a different Hotel.

CONs:
I called Forest Suites Resort a night before to confirm my reservation. I spoke with the manager (Roberto), and he informed me that they could not find my reservation. I had booked through priceline, and contacted Priceline to see what happened. Priceline contacted Roberto, and turns out he failed to make a reservation for me when they gave him my contact info. Minus 1 star right away.
I arrived at the hotel next day, and I was informed by room that I had booked has been sold out! Minus 1 star
We arrived to our small room, and noticed that there was incredibly poor insulation. The door does not closing all the way. We had to set the Heater to near 90 degrees in order to make the room comfortable. I called the front asking for more blankets, however the process takes forever. Called once, no one dropped off blankets. 30 mins later, called again, was told they would make sure someone would drop off the blankets. 30 mins later no one was here yet. I walked to the front ask and asked if I could be given the blankets instead. I was informed they can only send items to my room, and I can not pick them up! Minus 1 star
WARNING: Found out they only have 1 person on staff to handle request… poor guy…
Terrible WiFi signal. I called the front desk, and they said they were experiencing an outage. When asked if I could have a refund on my resort fee (since it covers interest cost), they said they would not be able to honor that request.
PROs:
Free breakfast in the morning includes eggs, bacon/​sausages, potatoes. As well as bread, bagels waffles, milk, and coffee. Not the greatest quality, but free is free.
Location is awesome! Only a 3 minute walk to the Gandola!
Parking include in resort fee.
Summary:
Stay away, book at Marriott Timber Lodge instead even if it is a little bit more.

Hi guys.
I was recently a guest in South Lake Tahoe and stayed a nearby heavenly village condos and Marriott Grand Residence. I had a bad experience there over a room misunderstanding and during my conversation with Tim of heavenly Village Condos/​Marriott Grand Residence he said «you’re even lucky to get the price I’m giving you, you could end up at a place like Forest Suites Resort which is nothing but an overpriced renovated motel that they call a resort».
I was saddened to hear that a representative of such a large company would be bad mouthing its smaller neighbors.

Good: location, free wifi, free parking.
Bad: this Is not a smoke free hotel, you can smoke outside of the room on the balcony and If you are next door you can smell the smoke of cigarette and w!!! So If you don’t like the smell they will ask you If you want another room! Seriously??? Why you don’t MAKE move the people who smoke???
Free breakfast but bad quality, not fresh at all (frozen food).
Service: they always say Yes but don’t do anything to make you feel better or to fix the problem.
I do not recommend this resort at all specially for family with kids, it Is better to spend a little bit more money If you really want to enjoy your vacations!

We just got back from a 6 days stay in Tahoe at the Forest Suites. We stayed there from December 21 to December 26.
I was very afraid after reading all the reviews that I made a big mistake and will end up in a dump. We own a timeshare with Marriott in Palm Springs so we are used to exchanging it for same standing properties. In all, I have to give it 4 stars. Yes, the property is in need of some updating but it is clean, the staff is beyond great and the location is exceptional!
I have to say once I let go of my «Marriott» expectations and bias, I was able to really enjoy staying at this resort!
Here’s a list of pluses and minuses for our stay.
Minuses:
— we were in building 5 and there is a tiny elevator. I don’t think a cart for luggage and a person would fit! But we manage to bring everything up with no problem.
— the room was smelling like an old house or room would smell.
— the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, doors and tiles were very 70s and in need of an update but were functional and well maintained.
— the windows are single-​pane so if you sleep on the side of the window, you will get cold at night (at least I did the first night– then you learn to adapt).
— because it was Christmas Eve and the cleaning ladies were in a hurry to go home, they barely cleaned our room that day and left dirty towels and our trash in front of our door. They didn’t vacuum our room. BUT the front desk was willing to do anything to make up for it once we told them. And to me, that’s what counts: people are people and will make mistakes, but if they try to make up for them, then it’s all good!
— the breakfast could be more appetizing. It is kind of bland and dreadful, but it is a full breakfast with eggs, sausages, paper-​thin bacon, fruits, yogurts, bagels, Starbucks coffee and 2 kinds of juice, etc… On Christmas Day I went and grabbed what we liked (sausages, potatoes, juice and coffee) and made it «better» with onions, tomatoes and other goodies in our room.
— The apartment had some kitchen essentials but not everything: there’s no dishwasher (the cleaning staff would do it for you if you request full service) BUT there’s no dish rack for you to put your dishes to dry. They do not provide cutting boards, dish towels or mitts. You have no colander. Here’s what we had for 4 people: 1 medium size pot w/​lid, 1 large pot w/​lid and one medium size pan, 1 medium size mixing bowl, 1 medium size IKEA baking dish, 6 tall glasses, 2 wine glasses, 6 mugs, 6 dinner plates, 6 dessert plates, 6 bowls, 6 teaspoons, 6 forks, 6 knives and 4 steak knives, 1 set of IKEA kitchens utensils (ladle, big serving spoon, spatula), 1 can opener and 1 corkscrew.
— old phone system (but who cares?)
Pluses:
— I can’t stretch it enough: they have an exceptional staff, all of them are nice and trying to help you in any way possible.
— They have 24 hours staff. We got caught in the storm on our way to Tahoe and ended up checking in at midnight. The night receptionist was super helpful and we checked-​in very easily.
— There are plenty of parking spaces on the property and car ports so you won’t have to deal with the snow. Because we checked in late, our car stayed outside the first night but the next day we were able to find a spot easily.
— The location is AWESOME! You are right at Heavenly Village. You can walk to anything (restaurants, entertainment, grocery store, etc…). Everything is right outside your door or almost!
— They have a program if you stay more than a certain amount of nights (don’t remember how many): you can opt out of daily full service. They will still come to empty your trash and replace your bathroom towels. If you choose to opt out you can choose a gift (red or white wine, movie snacks or energy packs). We chose red wine one day, white one another, Full service other day and red the fourth day. Quality of the wine is not bad at all! They forgot to give us our bottle the first day (and of course made up for it immediately) but everything was delivered accordingly the other days.
— We asked for more blankets and got them right away.
— The heater/​ac worked great (we just don’t like too much heat at night, personal preference…)
— We had to pay a $ 15 daily resort fee which is much cheaper than the $ 25/​day valet parking at Marriott and it included self parking, free breakfast and great wireless! We brought our Firestick (Amazon TV) and were able to stream movies and shows with no problems. They have a big 50″ TV in the living room and smaller tv in the bedroom. The cable quality is not HD but if you plug in your HDMI for your Amazon TV, the image quality is good.
— the gym is small but it has plenty of equipment that are ok, a nice bathroom area with lots of towels, shampoos, conditioners, soaps and lotions, a shower, toilets and a big TV.
— pictures from other reviewers are true to what you will get so no need for me to add any.
For the price, I will come back to Forest Suites! Great stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed here a little over a week ago for 3 nights. Check-​in was painless. Parking was limited, based on where they told us to park (in front of the lobby), but we found a spot. The lobby is nice, staff was friendly.
To get to our room, we had to go outside and upstairs. We didn’t see an elevator for the luggage, so we dragged it up the stairs. The signage was incorrect, though — it directed us up the first set of stairs for our room, but once we were up there, we realized it was wrong. Since the floors/​areas did not connect, we had to go back down the stairs, through another hallway, and up a separate set of stairs to reach our room.
Our suite was very nice! The foyer/​entrance had a coat closet, and then there was a walk-​in closet with shelves by the bathroom. There was a full kitchen, complete with stove, dishes, silverware, pots/​pans, large fridge — everything you’d need to cook a meal. It would have been nice if the fridge would have been stocked with some items, like the Vegas minibars, but no such luck. There was a long dining room table for four against the wall. The living room area had a sofa, side table, coffee table, and a chair. There was a TV with a DVD player in the corner, between the dining room table and the sliding door. Speaking of the sliding door, it was awesome! We had it open and were leaning over the railing to enjoy the 10 degree (give or take) temperatures and snow. There isn’t an actual patio, just a railing so you can open the door without falling out.
The little hallway took you to the bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom was average size, maybe a bit small. There was a tub/​shower combination, and short vanity. By short, I mean it was short in length AND height. I’m 5’9 and the counter was well below my waist. #tallpeopleproblems
The bedroom was large, a lot of floor space. King bed, two bedside tables, a chair, a bench-​like piece of furniture, dresser with flat-​screen TV, and a small closet behind the door. Large window which could be open, yay! The pillows, however, were questionable at best. There were 2 on the bed, both of which felt like they were stuffed with some kind of lumpy, concrete-​like foam. Thankfully, there were 2 others in the walk-​in closet which were of a more normal, pillow-​like consistency. And where was the comforter?! Yes, there’s central heat, but some of us like a cold room and warm bed. There was only a sheet and some small, thin piece of material posing as a blanket or table runner, which is what it actually looked like.
The room had central A/​C and heat. The view from our room looked out into what I call a backyard area. It’s a great place for kids — and adults — to play in the snow or some other activity. There were small boys sledding down the very-​slight incline.
I thought there were improvements to be made with the room, but I did not find it as outdated and horrible and other reviewers have suggested.
The grounds that we saw were nice. Al’s Saloon in the lobby was never open that we saw, they must have weird/​short hours. The pizza place advertised in the room was not delivering when we were there due to the weather. Really?!
Then, there was the continental/​free breakfast in the lobby. That was… an experience. The first morning wasn’t too bad, the second morning was horrible, and the third morning we left the resort to go find a real breakfast. First, they do not have the seating to accommodate the guests. There were WAY MORE guests than seats/​tables. We spilled into the saloon and the chairs in the lobby, with a long line still waiting to even get in the breakfast area. The food was not stocked or replenished quickly enough. There were 3 kinds of cereal (mostly empty on the 2^nd morning), pre-​cooked waffles (think Ego, because I’m pretty sure that’s what they were), bagels, bread — all could be toasted in the single, slow, toaster at the end of the breakfast line. They had small little mini-​muffins which matched the consistency of the pillows in the room — hard — and in the case of the muffins, flavorless. Little packets of yogurt and cream cheese. A single pan of scrambled eggs — this was empty our 2^nd morning and was not replenished for at least 15 – 20 minutes, even though the line of guests stretched all the way into the lobby. There was a pan of sausage (cold the 2^nd morning) and bacon (also cold), diced potatoes (empty the 2^nd morning, never replenished), and little containers of shredded cheese and salsa (also empty). Oh, and on the first morning, there was fresh cut fruit — this container was empty the 2^nd morning. My advice? Avoid the breakfast — just go buy it somewhere.
Overall, it was a good experience. The lodge is right by Heavenly village, it’s literally just a short walk there or to the casinos. We didn’t move the car the entire time we were there, we just walked everywhere and enjoyed the cold, snowy weather.

We just got back and stayed in the 1 bedroom and a livingroom with a full kitchen. I thought for the price we paid on living social it was a great deal. I would not pay much more.
This place is in a perfect location. The downfall with this place is everything is old and is out dated. The king bed is hard and they have pillows that are painful to sleep on. The windows are single pane and the heater runs constantly.
All in all I will say this place has huge potential and could be really nice. It worked out perfectly for us because we have 2 small kids.
I will keep this mind in mind for the future
Tip: Bring your own pillow.

We stayed in a two bedroom suite. On the whole this is a pretty decent place. The beds were comfortable. The kitchenette was stocked with decent dishes. The place was clean and the staff very helpful. But if they would have fixed a few things, I would have made this a 4 star rating instead of 3. For example, the windows are single pane (I can’t imagine the heating bill in winter) and the frame separates when you open the window. The toaster is probably a fire hazard (without toasting anything). The glass topped wrought iron-​like furniture just seems dated and a bad idea (very unstable!)
There was breakfast provided and although it’s better than just toast and jam, they might want to rethink cooking their bacon in the microwave hours before breakfast and the eggs almost always seemed to be one serving from empty.
I think they just need someone to come in and polish up the place a little bit.
The staff was great.

Though the property is on the older side, it is maintained well and in a great location, right behind the Village. My friend who booked the stay got an incredible deal through either Groupon or TravelZoo (can’t remember exactly) Anyway, for a two-​bedroom, two bath suite w/​a living room and full kitchen it was $ 99 per night. It came with a full-​breakfast and wine and cheese hour each day! Would definitely stay there again, even if we did see a bear in the parking lot.

We just returned from a trip to Heavenly Ski Resort at Tahoe. Prior to leaving, I found a few Groupon deals for hotels and resorts at South Lake Tahoe (both in Nevada and California). On a hunch, I decided to go with Forest Suites Resort. I am glad that I did!
I was completely unaware that Forest Suites was located at the Heavenly Village. It is about a half-​block away from Nevada. We had planned to take the gondola 2.5 miles up the mountain to the Heavenly Mountain Resort, but I had no idea that the gondola is a short walk just behind Forest Suites. In fact, the Heavenly gondola rises right above the hotel!
The rooms were very nice for the price. During previous visits, we had stayed at some hotels along Lake Tahoe Blvd. This was just slightly more expensive but offered much more in terms of room and amenities. We stayed in a two bedroom suite. Our suite had two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living room, dining area and kitchen. In one bedroom, we had a huge king sized bed (and a nice flat panel TV and media player). In a second bedroom, we had a queen sized bed and an additional bed. The kitchen was furnished with a stove, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of pots, pans, plates and eating items. The living room had a leather couch with a pull out sofa bed and two leather chairs as well as a flat panel TV (with cable) and media center. It felt more like a furnished cabin or apartment than an inexpensive hotel. We also had great views of mountain from our windows (until the snow began to obscure our views).
We were a short walking distance — literally across a driveway — from Heavenly Village. Heavenly charges for parking, so we avoided that cost by simply leaving our car at Forest Suites and walking to the Village and gondola. Note: Cars are given a parking permit, so this should be left on the dashboard while parked at Forest Suites. There is also a shopping center across the street from Heavenly Village with a grocery store and restaurants. We saved some money by purchasing food, soda and water at the Raley’s across the street and walking it back to our suite.
There are also things to do within the resort. We were given a schedule that included movie night selections and other activities. We had a great time at the S’mores campfire. We sat around a fire and made S’mores with the ingredients (Hershey bars, graham crackers, marshmallows and sticks) that were provided free-​of-​charge by a very nice attendant. There is a nice lobby, restaurant/​bar and even a game room upstairs with a couple of Xbox consoles (with games available for check out at the front desk). There is a complimentary self-​serve buffet breakfast offering eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, waffles, cereal, bagels, milk, OJ, grape juice, oatmeal, etc… Breakfast is served between 6:30−10 AM, but we were told that it is better to go before 8 AM (to beat the crowds). There was a large group of well-​behaved youth from the U.K. staying at the resort, so we were able to get fed before they arrived.
On the last day, we were planning a trip up the mountain. Checkout is at 10 or 11 AM, but we left early to beat the crowds of skiers and snowboarders up the mountain. During checkout, I asked where I would need to park. They allowed us to keep our vehicle parked there until we returned from the mountain. That saved us from having to pay a parking fee at Heavenly Village.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at Forest Suites! I am sure that there might be better hotels around Tahoe (at the Nevada casinos or elsewhere), but this resort seems to offer the most bang for the buck. The staff was great and you just can’t beat the location! We plan to stay here during our next trip to Tahoe.

My family and I stayed at Forest Suites Resort this past weekend. Overall we had a good experience and WITH the GroupOn the price was right. I’m not sure what they normally charge but for $ 180 (after taxes and fees) for a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite for Saturday night they deserve 3.5−4 stars.
The resort is conveniently located toward the back of the Heavenly Village within walking distance of the Heavenly Gondola, many shops and restaurants and the casinos. The resort has a basic gym, outdoor pool (closed in the winter), hot tub and fire ring. Parking is limited but included in the resort fee. The highlight of there amenities are their daily activities and complimentary breakfast. The evening we were there they had a hot chocolate bar (that we unfortunately missed). Breakfast was surprisingly good and served until 10am. I say it was good because they went a little beyond tiny wrapped muffins and cereal. There were a variety of bagels, toasts and waffles, yogurt, cereals, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, juices and Starbucks coffee.
The resort lobby is nice but the complex is general is old. Our room was clean and decent. Bedrooms were a good size and the bed was comfy. The master bedroom had a king bed, tv and bathroom. The second room had a queen bed and full. The second bathroom had a shower. The top cover on our toilet had a huge crack but what does that really matter? The toilet works right? LOL. The hair dryer is only on the master bedroom bath. The kitchen was stocked and nice to have for storing and heating up food. The furniture in the living room was a little older but decent.
Service at the front desk was friendly and helpful. They always say you get what you pay for. If you don’t mind an older complex and smaller rooms then fish for a deal and you’ll be satisfied. If your looking for something a little more bigger, nicer, cleaner and slightly closer to the casinos the Marriott Timber Cove would be a better option. I’ve stayed at both and my husband and I agreed while we love the Marriott we would come back to the Forest Suites again unless we needed a little more space, were coming with a larger group and visiting for something other occasion than just a day of snowboarding.
