Mathnasium instructors use our unique assessment process to determine (with great accuracy) exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master. It doesn’t stop there — our encouraging instructors continually check progress along the way to make sure kids truly understand and retain the concepts we’ve taught. Established in 2014.

Our History

More than 35 years ago, Larry Martinek, creator of the Mathnasium Method™, was inspired to find a better way to teach math. As a teacher in public and private

schools, as well as a father to a mathematically gifted son, Nic, Larry possessed a comprehensive view of math education. In his work with both stellar and struggling math programs, he identified a common theme in math instruction — a vast disconnect

between students’ learning skills and the curriculum they were expected to master. Larry decided to find an approach that would provide students with the strong mathematical foundation they needed to succeed. The solution would be to

identify students’ current skill levels and propel them forward by teaching them math in a way that made sense to them.

Larry assembled and developed a blend of methods and materials that had proven highly effective for students of all ages in his years as an educator. The Mathnasium Method was born.

Meet the Business Owner

Mike and Joanna A.

Business Owner

As the Fixed Operations Director for two large successful Chevrolet dealerships and multiple Import dealerships in Illinois and Indiana, Michael has always had an active interest in mathematics. He began his 32-​year career in the automotive industry as a car porter and through hard work and determination, became the Director of Fixed Operations successfully managing all aspects of the Service, Parts and Collision centers within the two dealerships. Joanna has been in the Veterinary Industry for over 25 years working as Hospital Operations Manager in both private, corporate, and non-​profit veterinary practices. Michael and Joanna have four children of their own, two of which struggled with math, and had Individualized Learning Plans in school. They understand firsthand how this can affect the entire family and only wish that Mathnasium was in this area at the time their children needed extra help.
