A successful business owner and life-​long resident, Joyce Lebedew is a fervent evangelist for South Boston and a tireless proponent of its renaissance.

But Joyce is equally passionate about the rights of urban animals and pet-​owners. An unabashed dog lover and the proud owner of a Jack Russell Terrier, she has long been an active supporter of the Alliance for Animals and other animal rescue associations in the area. When she began selling real estate in 2002, Joyce became keenly aware of the plight of pet-​owners in finding suitable housing. In 2008, when she launched Joyce Lebedew Real Estate (JLRE), she decided to make pet-​friendly housing a cornerstone of her business. Her exclusive focus on buying, selling and leasing of pet-​friendly residential properties in South Boston has proven a winning combination for Joyce.

Jack staley sold the apartment that I currently live in and then showed it to rent. During the process I experienced him to be unresponsive, rude and aggressive.
He represented both the seller and the buyer in the sale process. When he showed the house he gave short notice. The one time we, the current residents were sick and politely asked to reschedule he showed up anyway, became violent and showed his temper.
I would not recommend using Joyce realty to rent because they continue to work with jack staley. If you rent from jack staley then you know you will have to have him show your apartment when you move out and have him disrespect you and your living space.
If you sell through jack staley then you risk having him sell to an existing client and having a conflicting interest.

This review is reflective of my horrible experience «working» with Jack Staley.
I saw an ad for a two bedroom apartment on the outskirts of South Boston, so I contacted the agent listed. Jack got back to me really quickly. After discussing some details about the apartment, we made arrangements for a showing the next day at 11 am (a Saturday).
I was a bit confused about where to park and I didn’t see anyone waiting for me outside the apartment, either (11:05 am). I had to go around the one way street twice to park, but I did make it to the showing, crutches in tow and a check book in hand at 11:07 am. I hobbled around the perimeter, but I didn’t see anyone in sight with a set of keys in their hand ready to let me in. So, I called him & left a voicemail message. No response. Then… I read my email.
Sent 11:09 AM. «Didn’t see you and have to leave for another appointment. A heads up you were late and/​or not coming would have been appreciated.»
I called Jack about three times after that, sent an email back. no response. I hung around for another hour in the neighborhood in hopes he’d give me a call and we could check the place out, despite the fact that I was already feeling quite disrespected and unconsidered. Four days later, Jack hasn’t had the decency to get back to me at all. Apparently, he didn’t appreciate me being a few minutes late, but he was clearly overbooking himself since we has only allotting me 9 minutes of his time anyway. Also, phones work two ways. He could have called me, too, since driving and looking up numbers isn’t safe…
Finding an apartment is a stressful process, especially in the high demand neighborhood that is South Boston. I drove all the way into the city only to be stood up. Jack made me feel like the bottom priority on his list, which maybe I was in his opinion. Instead, I highly recommend working with someone else.

Stay far away from this place –specifically L. Jack Staley.
He showed my roommates and I a 4 bedroom house and the landlord accepted our applications. We had signed no papers and a lease had not been written for us; however we did pay Jack his realtor fee. A day after we paid him, our 4th roommate accepted a job in Virginia, therefore we had to back out of the apartment. It was early in the summer, there was plenty of time for the landlord to find another party to rent the place and once again, we had not signed any papers.
Jack refused to give us our money back and told us that it was stated in the realtor agreement that upon agreement to rent the apartment, the realtor fee could not be refunded. My mother and father, both real estate agents, informed my roommates right away that this was bullshit and that if we didn’t sign anything, we didn’t owe anyone anything as there was no deal made.
My dad proceeded to call the landlord (to which he called the realtor an idiot and said he doesn’t get our money, but unfortunately he couldn’t help us get it back) and the head of the realtor office, Joyce.
We then found out that Jack had proceeded to cash the check in the midst of all the arguing about whether we really owed him money or not.
Thank you to Joyce who ended up writing a check to us and assuring us that Jack was wrong — we don’t owe them money if no deal was made.
Jack is an ass hole and enjoys BSing his clients to squeeze as much money as he can out of them.
Do not use him. I’m shocked Joyce still has him working there.

A team is only as strong as their weakest link, and Joyce’s team is full of them…
Although Joyce was excellent and good for the bottom line, her team is another story… The lack of professionalism from every angle made my entire leasing process purely unacceptable. From lies of leasing options (additional dog fees for a pet-​friendly lease), texting instead of calling, being late for every appointment, charging false fees and telling continuous lies resulted in what could have been a very positive relationship into a burned bridge.
I would not recommend doing business with Joyce Lebedew Real Estate.

I emailed a few times about a rental I saw on Zillow with one of the agents. My initial email had 2 questions listed about the property and yet she didn’t answer these; only tried to set up a viewing. I responded with my questions again and got feedback for 2 of the 3. She said she didn’t know what kind of heating system the place had and would look it up. I responded trying to set up a time to see it and never got a response. Incredibly unprofessional to not address specific questions asked, but also to not follow up when you say you will or even respond when I tried to set up an appointment to see it.
Ball dropped.

DO NOT WORK WITH THIS WOMAN! I set up two apppointments to have a tour of the signal building in south boston. On both occassions she did not show up, she did not answer her cellphone, and did not return any of my calls. I drove up from Rhode Island two weeks in a row, only to be blown off. After the first missed appointment, and multiple calls to her, she finally answered and said she thought the appointment was for the following Saturday and that she had left me a voicemail (nope). So I confirmed that we were going to meet that coming Saturday and once again, she did not show up. Apparently Joyce believes her time is more valuable than mine. I really was hoping to find a home close to the city, it’s really unfortunate that one person can ruin an experience. Thanks Joyce!

I did not have the chance to go through the entire leasing process with this company. We had an 11am appt with an agent. This agent did not pickup phone calls from Joyce Lebedew; who showed up at 11:15am. When 11:30am rolled around we got up and left. There was no explanation or follow up from the agent as to why there were a no show. As the previous reveiwer said, sales is difficult, but this agent didn’t even make the effort to reach out to apologize for standing us up. I would not recommend doing business with Joyce Lebedew.
