Hampton Inn

I’ve stayed at Hampton Inns around the world because I appreciate their consistent quality, service & value & here in South Bend, they do not deviate from the norm. I was in town recently for a Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest game & with a Hampton Inn so close to the campus, I knew I’d be staying there. What I did not know was that I’d be charged in advance of my stay, which apparently is something they do differently here (On gameday weekends, as I was told when I asked on check-​in — normally you’re not charged until you checkout, & I was a bit scared when I saw the $ 750+ bill on my credit card statement 2 months prior to my stay).
At any rate, there is plenty of parking & there are any number of places to eat near the hotel from fast food to more sit-​down style venues. Rooms were clean & quiet, even with the excitement of the game & in addition to the usual cookies they have out for guests, they had hot food & danish laid out in football serving trays to celebrate the Irish. The free hot breakfast was ready at 6:00 a.m. or shortly after & wasn’t terribly busy first thing in the morning, when I went for it, with plenty of fresh food to choose from.
I wonder if it’d be possible for the hotel to consider a shuttle for guests, many of whom are obviously in town for the game, to & from the campus? Maybe one that left every hour or half hour? Either for free or a modest fee with advance registration. I suspect it might be quite popular.
All in all, the South Bend Hampton Inn is very much in the tradition of quality & affordability common to all Hampton Inns & definitely worthy of consideration when in the area.

We drove here after finishing up Cedar Point. This hotel has your standard amenities but it is strongly lacking a mini-​fridge as well as microwave. The hotel checked us in very late around 11PM CST. So, we were fortunate that they accommodated us for late arrival. The room layout was nice and large. The next day, we had breakfast and had the typical fare. I was missing eggs so asked about hard-​boiled eggs. Due to the bird flu epidemic, the staff mentioned that only the artificial cheese omelet was available. Oh well, we had our yogurt which was good enough.

Just spent a very pleasant night at this Hampton Inn. The room was large, clean and had two very comfortable queen beds. The room was quiet. The bathroom sparkling clean. Slept in too late to have breakfast but there is a nice, large area for that with a big tv and a fireplace.
Most important: the desk personnel last night and this morning were so friendly, caring, and professional! Management is getting it right – well done!
As weary travelers we got a little lost trying to find our room – but a very kind member of the housekeeping staff (who had finished her shift and was leaving!) took the time and went out of her way to walk us to our room, even made sure we found the elevator we should use.
The staff members’ attitude is everything and these people are wonderful!
You’ll be happy you stayed here; we’ll be back for sure.

Recently stayed at this Hampton Inn over Valentine’s Day Weekend with a team competing in a tournament. Not only is this hotel clean and comfortable, but the staff are some of the friendliest hotel staff I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Since it was Valentine’s Day Weekend, the guys on our team wanted to do something special for the girls on the team. I called the Hampton Inn that previous Thursday and asked if they would accept flowers from a local florist and place them in the girls’ rooms while we were competing on Saturday. Without hesitation, the manager, Brian Krol, said that they would help make this work in any way possible. After ordering the flowers, I called the Hampton Inn and ironed out the details. I only asked that they place the flowers in the girls’ rooms, but they truly went above and beyond what I asked. When we arrived back at the hotel Saturday evening, the girls found the flowers placed nicely on their beds along with some towel animals! It is this kind of customer service that deserves 5 stars and I will gladly stay at the Hampton Inn in the future.

Just stayed there for two nights with 16 other hockey families for a turnament.
Hotel is clean and rooms are nice size. Free coffee all day and breakfast was good too. The staff did everything possible to help and make our stay confortable even though there were several other teams in the hotel at the same time.
I would go there again.

This Hampton Inn is a little older than I generally choose, but it was fine. The pictures online showed that they still had old TVs instead of flat screens, so I was happy to get to my room and see that they’ve updated them.
Initially they put me in the wrong room — two double beds instead of the King I should always have. Thanks to the friendly staff for recognizing my Diamond status and upgrading me to a suite. It was exactly what I needed for my 3 night stay here.
The staff was great — very friendly and helpful.

After touring many other hotels. This place was fantastic. My room had a separate living room And a full kitchen. You don’t know how good that feels until you spend a long time without one. The staff was great. We had a large party and they kept us happy.

Extra-​super bland. Ugh. But it’s functional, so I gotta give it three stars. The location, for me, sucks, sucks, sucks because I can’t walk to anything and running around here is life-​risking because of the lack of consistent sidewalks. The 1.5 miles to ND should be walk-​able, but no, they’re not.

We had a house fire a few years back, and had to find a place nearby, with plenty of room, where you wouldn’t mind staying a while. We ended up staying here for almost 7 months. In our situation, the manager was very friendly, and set us up with a very reasonable deal, as the insurance company was paying the bill, they would only go so high…
Anyhow, the room we had was a suite room, that had a full fridge, stove top, microwave etc… A living room area that had a fold-​out couch, and a bedroom with two VERY comfortable beds. There was a TV in the livingroom, and another in the bedroom. The tub/​shower had good pressure, and never gave us a cold shower. The beds were always made, and the floors and bathrooms always cleaned. Fresh towels etc…
Their breakfast bar was free and very complete. If you are only going for a few days it will be a little different each day as they rotate the «hot food» on a weekly schedule. Fresh yogurt, donuts, breads, fresh fruit and cereal etc… The hot foods were anything from waffles, to sausage and bacon, and those little egg patties to make sandwiches…
After a while though we got tired of the weekly variety, and would cook breakfast sometimes, going down and grabbing fruit, milk, juice, and coffee etc… but maybe making our own scrambled eggs or whatever.
Four varities of coffee, and several types of tea were available 24 – 7. and on the weekdays they would make hot-​n-​fresh cookies in the evenings, available at the front desk.
there was a little «convience shop» with travel-​sized necessities, and some other stuff, but nothing too much.
The pool was nice and always clean, and there was a hot tub too… Although in the colder months their heating system in the pool could only do so much to keep the water warm, so if you’re gong in the dead cold of winter, the pool and hot tub is OK, but it won’t be super-​warm.
The exercise room has some basic equipment and is there if you want it.
All in all a nice place, about 4 ½ stars rounded up to 5!

Full disclosure: I’m a hotel snob. Hilton is not my favorite hotel chain, but I recently received a Gold VIP card in the mail and decided to try the Hampton Inn & Suites during Alumni Senate Weekend at Notre Dame. Having lived in South Bend for nearly four years as a college student, I knew not to expect too much from any hotel. We’re talking about northwestern Indiana, after all!
Given my low expectations, I was very pleasantly surprised. From the continental breakfast (belgian waffles, pastries, muffins, bagels, cereal, yogurt, toast, fruit, eggs, sausage patties, coffee, tea, milk, and juice!) and the genuinely helpful staff, my stay at the Hampton Inn was exceptional.
After a long day of meetings, workshops, receptions, and networking on campus, it was refreshing to come back to a bottle of water and a cute note on my MacBook from the housekeeper reminding me to «have a great day» with a little picture of a cat. Now maybe the fact that I brought my teddy bear all the way to Indiana with me catalyzed some «in loco parentis» instincts in the staff, but I felt very cared for.
From the moment I checked in, the staff bent over backwards to help. I arrived in Chicago on a red-​eye from San Francisco and drove in. I was tired and needed to freshen up before a full day of meetings. The housekeepers immediately turned over a room for me, a full seven hours before the regularly scheduled check-​in time.
The service and hospitality I received in three days at the Hampton Inn in South Bend nearly rival my experiences at luxury properties around the world. Thank you, Hampton Inn! I’ll recommend you to all of my alumni friends who swarm back to campus every fall for football weekends!

Stayed here this past weekend with a group of friends all in town for a friend’s graduation from Notre Dame (she was getting her doctorate, the smarty pants).
Now, the fact that it was ND grad weekend should tell you something. We were there Friday and Saturday nights, and they were completely full on Saturday. So full that when I went to ask for another pillow or two, they were out. Good thing two of my friends brought some from home. The rates were also completely ridiculous, but again, it was grad weekend.
The room I was in was a suite, with a living area with a pull-​out sofa, a kitchen, and a bedroom with two double beds. The double beds were great, with nice fluffy duvets and fancy sheets. The mattress on the couch was slightly less comfy, but it was decent.
We can’t really complain — it’s a pretty nice hotel, and the location is close enough to campus that I suppose they have a right to charge whatever they want. The free breakfast was tasty, with a lot of options, and they kept replenishing it. We also used the hot tub, which was quite nice.
The shower was nice and hot even after multiple showers, though the massaging jet-​head wasn’t working. And the sink/​vanity area is badly designed, with nary a towel rack in sight to hang a hand towel or damp washcloth. Weird.
It seemed like they were a little short-​staffed — they gave us a plunger to deal with our own plumbing problem, and as I said, ran out of pillows. You’d think for one of the biggest weekends of the year, they would be prepared.
So four stars it is, for being a pretty nice place to stay, but not five-​star worthy.

Nice Hampton Inn with a few quirks that made it unique. The design is square, with a courtyard in the center. I managed to go in circles quite a few times, trying to figure out the best way to get from elevator or stairs to my room. After awhile you finally figure it out ;)
The courtyard was very nice and had some BBQ’s that I think anyone can use. The rates skyrocket when there is a game in town but the manager gave us a military discount, even though it’s apparently not normal for that location. The room was huge, with fridge, sink, and enough floor space to host a whole girl scout troop sleepover.
Gym and pool looked nice but I was too tired to use either. The rooms were clean enough, but definitely looked like they’d had too many parties in the room… could use some new carpet.
