When the bright lights of Bar Harbor are too bright for you, consider a drive an hour out of town to the edge of the Schoodic Peninsula for a night of reasonably priced r&r at Bass Cove Farm. A modest antique home with a couple guest rooms, Bass Cove Farm is available by the night or by the week. In the case of the weekly rental, breakfast is not included unless requested. This is not a luxurious B&B, but a pleasant, accommodating and folksy place to hang your hat while you visit the area. The hosts make their books and games available to you and provide a lot of information about local attractions so that you can best plan your time in Downeast Maine. Breakfast is a multi-course affair featuring freshly baked muffins(if you are lucky), blueberry pancakes made with their own blueberries, juice, fruit, and conversation with the hosts, who are both interesting and considerate. After breakfast, we took a walk down the street where we hit the mother lode of wild blueberries, which we picked and baked into a pie the next day.
