The Spa at Renaissance Sonoma

Excellent deep tissue massage from Leslie at Raindance Spa today. Very professional and she knows how to work out the kinks. Recommend her highly. Will ask for her when we return. Quiet facility with nice amenities, multiple pools.

Best massage I’ve had in a looooong time! Get there early to enjoy the steam room or jacuzzi and unwind!
PROS:
My big favorite: EUCALYPTUS STEAM ROOM. Ice cold water and face towels right outside the steam room. You can even buy eucalyptus spray to bring home!
Nice facilities: lots of lockers in changing room, good stock of toiletries, outdoor gazebos.
Relaxing waiting room with a fire place. Lot’s of big comfy chairs and pillows!
Light spa snacks and refreshments.
Amazing massage therapist Lori! From my scalp all the way down to my toes she really loosened the tension I was holding in.
Massage add-​ons: I got the scalp massage and lavender shea butter add-​on. I even got to take home the rest of the shea butter left over.
Super friendly front desk ladies.
Good selection of skin care and spa goodies in the gift shop.
CONS:
Only one… a clock that can be seen from the steam room. It’s super easy to lose track of time in there!

Fantastic. Great couples massage, fair pricing, and lovely grounds. I especially liked the private jacuzzis, pools, and oh those robes. The locker rooms are beautifully appointed and the services offered are extensive. I would definitely go back.

I came here for a bachelorette party. It is a quaint little spa with Co-​ed outdoor amenities (pools and spas) and saunas and showers inside the locker rooms. We reserved a cabana and had lunch out by the pools. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because our beers took over 45 minutes to arrive to us and then we waited another hour for our food to arrive. It would have been nice if we didn’t have to walk inside every time we wanted to order something. I had never had a facial before so I’m not sure exactly how to rate it but I didn’t expect to be talked to the entire time. It felt more like an appointment instead of a relaxing spa experience. I think next time I would do a massage. The other girls were all very pleased with their services. Overall I would come back. The grounds are pretty and the services and amenities are nice.

EUCALYPTUS OIL HEAVEN!
I went here recently with two male friends from college. We’re in our mid thirties and thought that a day at the spa with eachother would be the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of our stressful daily lives.
I was hung over.
We arrived and were immediately handed flip flops in our individual foot sizes. Such a nice touch! Then we entered the changing room, which smelled great. What was that smell? It would end up redefining what it meant to relax and effervesce. It soothed my nostrils with its minty menthol goodness.
Then we donned our white robes and headed out to the cabanas for a soak.
We dipped toes in one jacuzzi… a little bit too cold. This would do later, perhaps, to cool off. Then we tried another… ahh, just right! Hot and steamy. We slipped right in.
Was this heaven? YES! One friend opened up the giant umbrella above the tub– a nice touch. Then we tried out the disabled people lowering-​into-​the-​water chair machine. It worked! How handy. Then it started to rain. We huddled together under the giant umbrella until the rain passed. That was a close one!
My most overworked friend proceeded to take a much-​needed nap in the cabana, while my Type B friend and I tried out the other pools. They were delightful. I felt the alcohol soak right out of my pores.
Next it was a trip to the Relaxation Room on the top floor of the spa. Much like the jacuzzis, we had this all to ourselves. Native flutes tooted out a calming rhythm as a gas-​powered fire roared in the hearth at the room’s center. Calmly, we poured ourselves some complimentary tea and sprawled our bathrobe-​bedecked bodies on the giant couch-​chairs. I felt one with the universe.
Finally, it was shower time. I sprayed myself with eucalyptus oil and luxuriated. Then we went to the stream room. It was hot! How much eucalyptus oil could I take? A lot, it turned out. I could steam in there for days.
But it was time to go. Sadly, we folded up our white robes and placed them back in the lockers. It was someone else’s turn to experience heaven. But we would be back there someday.
I know that heaven is infused with hot eucalyptus oil, because I’ve been there. It’s called the Raindance Spa at the Renaissance Sonoma. I love you!

This place is heaven!!! The service is outstanding and the Jacuzzi and pool welcome coed. It is very hard finding a spa that serves both now. You can come in early before the massage and hang around in the gazebos, pool or Jacuzzi. The spa offers service out there as well. You can order Breakfast or lunch with wine or champagne. I am planning a girls day here with family and friends. This place rocks!

This place is ridiculous. I came in to book 2 couples massages as offered here on their menu that advertises a couple’s bath and couples massage with $ 330 80 min and $ 430 100 mins options. The front desk reception was very kind and then called over another associate who then proceeded to tell me that because California is currently in a drought they can’t offer the bath. I completely understood and wasn’t interested in the bath anyways, so then proceeded to ask if there is a REDUCTION in pricing since they couldn’t offer half of the service. What shocked me was her response which said that it wouldn’t be a reduction it’s actually an increase to the defaulted price for a normal couples massage without package at $ 370 for 80min. So now you’re saying that I get half the service and paying more?! This is not only astounding and a perfect example of horrible customer experience, with no attempt to resolve such a discourse, but simply bad business. If the menu had at least stated the correction or had even offered the same pricing of $ 330, I would have not gawked but to expect a customer to feel so cheated with their pricing points due to circumstances beyond our control is just wrong. Good luck ever getting my business. You should have corrected your menu and sold a service you can actually hold yourself to.

Meh. We had a great long weekend in Sonoma planned. Having stayed at the Renaissance a few years ago, the spa was one of the highlights and we made appointments to recreate the experience this time. We both (two women) booked the same treatment — a «custom» massage with the add on of a peppermint foot scrub. Afterwards, we both had the same comment — it was as if the therapists had a script… rub shoulder: 1−2−3, rub back 1−2−3, rub arm 1−2−3, rub leg 1−2−3. Nothing custom about it. Neither therapist asked about problem areas, current health, etc. The most boring massage I’ve ever had. The add on foot scrub was useless. Rub some grains into my feet and wipe them off with a dry cloth. I got up with salt still stuck to my feet. I’ve had hundreds of massages in my life and this was one of the WORST ever. Save your money at the spa and just buy wine instead.

After doing a quick search for «best spas in bay area» on google, The Spa at Renaissance Sonoma (Raindance Spa) came up on multiple sites. So for my girlfriend’s birthday, I booked a couple’s 80-​minute hot stone massage. It was AMAZING — at one point I may have even fallen asleep! Props to Amanda! She checked in with the pressure just once and she nailed it — perfection!
The entire spa facility was super clean and fully stocked with towels including all the toiletries you need. The outdoor patio and cabanas were well kept and maintained. With the plants and surrounding trees, it was super peaceful and relaxing.
Worth every penny!
*minus 1 star due to inconsistency in there hours of operation. According to their Spa pamphlet, website and Unilocal,their facility is open til 7pm. However, during the day of our treatment (Sunday), they informed us that they close at 5pm.

This is hands down my favorite spa (and I’ve been to a LOT of spas) I’ve stayed at the Sonoma Lodge countless times and always make sure I’m able to get a treatment at the spa during my stay.
Things to know:
— Get the hot stone massage. It’s quite literally the best massage I’ve ever gotten. It’s hard enough that you feel you’re getting worked, but magic enough that you fall asleep (I actually have caught myself drooling and /​or snoring. My masseuse has assured me I’m not the only one…) The treatment beds are so comfy, too. I often get cold during massages and they have lots of fleecy blankets and heating pads to keep you comfortable and warm.
— Their facials are incredible, too — basically every treatment I’ve gotten there is exceptional.
— The changing rooms are on the small side, but very well stocked: shavers, soap, combs, shampoo/​conditioner — everything you’d need to get ready. The robes are also really comfy and it looks like they do a good job of rotating them out.
— I love the waiting room before your treatment. It’s super cozy with lots of comfy chairs, couches, a fireplace and lovely teas.
— and one of the best parts… they have their own private pool area for spa guests only! When I come, I make sure we get an early treatment and then spend the rest of the day by the pool. They have several plunge pools ranging from hot, warm to FREEZING. Lots of lounge chairs, cabanas, tables and magazines. Even though it’s a smaller space, the way they designed it creates private areas for you to chat or relax. The receptionist has wine or champagne you can purchase up front and you can also order room service which is fantastic if you spend a few hours there.
It’s one of my favorite places to go and a perfect place to unwind.

I enjoyed the facilities at the Raindance Spa very much. I had an 80 minute massage on Saturday and was able to enjoy the other amenities such as the eucalyptus steam room and the warm pools. I found the outside areas to be relaxing and it was a pleasure to have use of them for the day. Lyndi was my massage therapist and I couldn’t say enough wonderful things about her. She is intuitive when it comes to pressure. She found knots in my muscles that I didn’t know existed. I felt like I was in another world when she was done. I look forward to a return visit and hope she is available for my massage.

Awesome day at the spa for girls’ weekend! My massage was wonderful! Would definitely recommend this spa. The waiting area was luxurious and cozy and the cabanas in the pool area are great for having lunch on a hot afternoon. Clean locker room with everything you need to get cleaned up for an evening out on the town.

This is my first time going to a spa, so even though I think it’s relatively pricy, why not make my first experience the best experience? It’s also for birthday + anniversary celebration so I was willing to go all out.
We went there about an hour early to enjoy the steam room, the pool, the hot tub, and the cabanas. There weren’t a lot of people so it was very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Then we changed into our robes and waited for our our couple massage. By the way, the tea in the relaxation room was amazing so make sure to try some.
We got a treatment with a scrub, a massage, and a wrap. The scrub felt very harsh at the spot but when I rinsed it off, my skin felt like baby skin! The massage was amazing in that they were able to tackle muscles that I normally wasn’t able to stretch. The wrap was very relaxing and the head and foot massage that they gave during the wrap really put me at a very very relaxed state, to an extent that I almost fell asleep.
Overall, I think I had a great experience there. It definitely opened me up for more spa experiences to come. If you are looking for high quality massages and services, this is the place.

I was lucky enough to be gifted with an appointment for a facial here. I had Maria as my aesthetician, and I will be fantasizing about bringing her home with me and keeping her in my medicine cabinet for the rest of the year.
She was nice, chatty but not too much, answered all my questions, and did an amazing freaking job. She said that my skin was thirsty (not dry!) and man oh man did she give it the drink it needed.
From dark spot treatments (peels and lasers oh my!) to intensive hydrating — my skin was sooooooo soft and glowy for DAYS afterward. Usually my experience post facial is that I’m all red and greasy looking, and then I have big marks from where the extractions were done. None of this with Maria.
I fantasize about going back with my girlfriends, renting out a cabana and taking over one of the tiny pools to drink cocktails and unwind post treatment. Bliss.
The only let down — I high tailed it out of there to get back to work and forgot to pick up the write up she did for me — recommending certain products or treatments. That still keeps me up at night. :(

I had a great spa experience today at the Raindance Spa. The treatments and providers were everything I expected and more.
The facility and gardens are beautiful. Be sure to book a break in treatments to have lunch and enjoy the pools and cabanas.

We’ll definitely be back! Not to overcrowded as we were able to enjoy our own personal cabana! Service in the cabana was mediocre because after the waiter brought our food, we never saw him again (& I left am additional tip on top of the automatic service charge). The spa was sensational! Great spa staff!

I have never had a spa experience before in my life. When my fiancé told me I had to go into the changing room, and relax in the steam room, I was shocked. I felt like a lost puppy in NYC. After relaxing for five minutes with condensation dripping down my face, I got dressed and put on a robe. We went upstairs in a dim lit room and waited to be called for our couples massage.
I had no idea what to expect. We get called into the room and I am greeted by two nice people. I felt extremely relaxed, and enjoyed the hour long massage. Never in my life would I expect to experience this, but it was just amazing. I felt overall, the experience was great, but it could have been better.
The space was very welcoming, and the back pool area with cabanas was my favorite. I could definitely see myself lounging all day by the pool, reading a book if I had that amount of time.

First off, GRAPE SEED TRIO TREATMENT!!! But I digress…
My husband and I decided to get married in the Sonoma area in the Fall of 2012 and set our wedding date for the Fall of 2013. We then embarked on the daunting task of finding vendors, researching, and overall wedding planning. One of the most important things to me was to find a day spa to do all of my pre-​wedding services (nails, facial, massage, and body treatments all in one place,) where all of my bridesmaids could join me.
After searching everything from Santa Rosa to Napa, I settled on the Raindance Spa, part of the Marriott’s Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa. It is the nicest, cleanest spa in the area, and really, no other spa comes close in facilities and services provided. While I did bring my bridal party here and had an amazing time, what my husband and I didn’t expect is how perfect it is for couples doing spa days together, and over the past year, we have spent many a romantic and relaxing day at the spa.
The facilities include men’s and women’s locker rooms, equipped with showers, eucalyptus steam room, all the toiletries you could possibly need, robes and slippers, and a plethora of fluffy white towels and, should you need it, well placed pitchers of ice cold water with lemon slices. Their relaxation lounge is luxuriously pampering, with oversized chairs to sink into, chenille blankets, fresh apples and nuts for snacking, hot tea, a centrally located fireplace (so everyone gets a view,) soft music, dimmed lights, and reading material, for those inclined to read. But what is really special, is their lush, landscaped co-​ed patio area, complete with trickling fountain with rose petals, 4 cabanas (for lounging, privacy, and romantic snuggling,) 2 hot tubs, 2 warm pools (one set several degrees higher than the other, both perfect for floating for indefinite periods of time,) and enough sunning chairs for all. This sunny nook, protected and private from the rest of the hotel and relatively sheltered on windy days, is perfect for ordering spa fare between treatments and just unwinding.
The service at the spa has always been beyond stellar. We have now been 20 times or so, and make the 2 hour drive from the peninsula regularly because there isn’t a spa down here like it. Every person we have booked with has been fabulous, but a few really stood out to us. While I can’t remember the names of all of the wonderful people we have seen, these are a few: Jeff (my husband’s and my absolute favorite for massage and body treatments), Eileen (nails, massage), Joe (massage), Tess (facial), Maria (facial), Catherine (facial), Leah (nails), and Nila (nails.) These are only a few of the good people we have seen, though, so don’t be afraid to experiment.
We have also tried almost every treatment on their spa menu. Some of the reviews have stated that this spa is expensive, but if you know spas and know the Bay Area, this spa is competitive. Other spas, like the Fairmont, Auberge in Napa, and Solage in Calistoga, are more expensive for similar treatments with use of their facilities. And they don’t offer the Grape Seed Trio treatment…
So, last time I went in to book the Grape Seed Trio treatment, I was told that they are planning on cutting it from the spa menu because not enough people book this treatment… either because they feel the treatment takes too long (it is 110 minutes,) or because it is expensive, which shocked me considering how reasonably priced it is for what they are providing. This is the only «spa day» treatment package like this in the whole Sonoma area, and I am praying that with this review, more people will rush to Raindance for this awesome treatment.
The Grape Seed Trio is the perfect «day before the wedding» treatment to make your skin absolutely glow (and shed some stress related bloating,) or for anyone with a special occasion that they want to feel gorgeous for. It involves being massaged head to toe with a cabernet grape seed scrub, followed by a cabernet grape seed mud mask, then placed in a hydrating steam capsule (so your pores absorb all of the wonderful nutrients and your body can shed some bloat,) and then a massage with the aroma therapy of your choice. I had this treatment the day before my wedding, and my skin came out positively glowing and as soft as a baby’s behind. My skin had been crêpe-​y, dry and crapity from lack of sleep and stress leading up to the wedding, but after this treatment, my skin was totally rejuvenated. It is just the kind of full pampering treatment an over-​worked bride (or over-​worked person in general,) needs. There has been some talk of shortening the treatment (which, I hope they won’t,) or removing it from the menu, so I urge all you Unilocalers out there to go give it a try before it is gone. I drive 2 hours for this treatment, if that is any indicator of how great it is.
All in all, fabulous spa with fabulous staff. So worth the trip and the money!

Awesome service. Beautiful space. Was especially great since it wasn’t busy when I went, so pretty much got the run of the place.

This spa is a real treat and has become one of my favorites. I decided at the last minute to make an appointment for a massage and was happy they had some openings. I requested a massage therapist that could apply firm pressure as my muscles needed some help from all my workouts, stress and my laptop hunch.
After checking in I was led to the changing area to slip into a robe and sandals. The area with the lockers is pretty cramped (if you are on the short side, ask for a bottom locker) but otherwise is fine. There are showers, a steam room, lotion, a curling iron and hairdryer, hairbrushes, etc. for guests to use. They also have their own pools and hot tubs outside but I did not have the time to use them.
The lounge is located upstairs and offers a soothing and relaxing environment for all guests of the spa. The sofas and chairs are comfortable and plush, as the snoring gentleman near me could attest. The area is warm and comforting, with soft music playing and cold/​hot beverages and nibbles offered. Sports and fitness magazines are available for reading.
My massage therapist, Georgia (I believe), was amazing. We discussed my request for firm pressure, what areas needed extra attention and if I had any injuries she needed to be aware of. Let’s just say she absolutely knew what she was going and this was not some amateur poking at my back. My 50 minutes were up before I knew it and I have to say that I left the appointment feeling much more relaxed than when I entered the spa. The bonus? I was given a container with the leftover lavender shea butter used on me as well as tips for stretches that I could do to help with some issues related to my tight hammies and quads.
I was so happy with the results that I recommended the massage to a coworker attending the same conference and she was able to sneak one in during a break in our schedule. She told me that the massage therapist was able to help her with some discomfort she had been having in her shoulder and loved the experience.
This spa is definitely one of the better ones in the area and is great for a day (or couple of hours) of relaxing and de-​stressing.
