The Cottage Inn & Spa

This was our second stay at the cottage in and spa. The staff is very friendly — 5 stars. We stayed at the south suite both times. It’s a large suite with a sitting living room area with a small table and a bedroom and patio and bathroom.
Pros: we were greeted enthusiastically and called when our room was ready early. comfortable sitting area with extra blankets, fireplace, 2 heaters and they gave us a space heater. Coffee and tea available and pastries in the morning. Again, the staff is pretty great– eager to answer any questions and print out maps to help you get anywhere you want to explore.
Cons: they no longer have heating pads on the bed — and the bedroom gets quite cold while the living room area gets toasty quickly. The wall heater in the bedroom felt ineffective. The shower in the bathroom — the nozzle worked but you had to hold it. You couldn’t attach it to anything. This made for an extremely uncomfortable shower. You could take a bath– but in this draught that felt really wasteful. Most bed and breakfasts provide an actual breakfast — this is pastries and cereal. Our neighbors (we shared a wall in our living room) were VERY loud. We heard blaring music and their conversation until at least 10:30 (we asked at 10 for them to turn it down) and finally just put on white noise to try to drown it out. Not a relaxing stay — and don’t feel eager to come back.

If I could give this little place 10 stars I would. My husband and I stayed for three days in Sonoma for our honeymoon and this has been the highlight of our trip. We didn’t wanna leave! It is the most adorable and peaceful place two blocks from the town’s center and is just perfect to getaway and be romantic with your one. We stayed in the Chapel suite and couldn’t believe how cute it was. Everyone morning we were greeted to an adorable basket of fresh baked goods and sat at our little breakfast table to enjoy. Outside of our room was a cozy fireplace where you could warm up at night with a bottle of wine. Highly highly recommend this place for a romantic and peaceful getaway. This might as well be a couples retreat; it’s that private and beautiful.

I took my entire small company (9 folks) here for a company retreat and had an amazing time! The accommodations and location are wonderful and the service was a welcome break from big chains! All of the rooms were nice and the upgraded rooms were worth the extra few bucks. Also, Sonoma is gorgeous in November!

My wife and I don’t get out to much because of our son having special needs.
I found the Cottage Inn and Spa and from the start Zac and Amy were warm and friendly. The entire staff is top notch. The attention to detail combined with the relaxing atmosphere is amazing.
From now on this is our spot for a romantic getaway.

Could I give this more than five stars??? Holy cow! I just stayed at the best lodge ever! I eyes teared up as we left. So sad to leave, but was so happy I had the experience here. The staff is amazing and makes you feel beyond welcome. We originally booked the room because we bought tickets to see Mudhoney and Fuzz at Gunlach Bunschu winery with no intention of anything fancy. We knew that we didn’t want to drive home back to Sacramento after. We booked the chapel suite at first, then got called a week before our stay that we got upgraded to the Mission suite with no charge. Wow! I walked into the suite and wanted to scream with joy! It was super private and we had our own patio, jacuzzi, kitchen area, local coffee… Oh, and can’t forget the pastries that get delivered outside your room in a basket! Delicious!!! I wish we had more time to spend here :) We got there early to beat traffic and they were super cool to let us check in before 2:00. I wish checkout was at noon instead of 11:00.

A five star Unilocal review is not something I take lightly; a place really has to earn it. The Cottage Inn and Spa earned six stars in my book. This place was exactly what we were looking for, a short block and a half walk away from all of the action in Sonoma plaza. Our spacious room was up a flight of stairs, featured beautiful windows in all four walls, and one wall opened up completely for a private view of wine country from our breakfast table. A basket of fresh pastries was hung outside the door every morning, and along with the fresh fruits, milk, cereal, coffee, and orange juice stocked in our room, made for the perfect in-​room breakfast experience. If you’re ever in Sonoma, you’d have a tough time finding any place better to stay. I know we’ll be back.

Amazing !!! The property is beautiful & relaxing. We really enjoyed the firepit while having wine after dinner. The owner was really nice & all of staff was warm & helpful. We loved the chapel suite & the jacuzzi tub was perfect to relax in. They had salt crystals for the bath & it was a really nice touch. Flowers were on the table in the room and a cute message was delivered in our breakfast basket. Breakfast was fresh … Fresh juice, cereals, fruit, coffee (regular & decaf) and … yummy, right out of the oven pastries from a local bakery (croissants & a blueberry muffin). Jams were already in the room with the cereals, & milk, juice and creamers were in the fridge. My hubby couldn’t wait to eat his croissant. The room was perfect with a little fridge & microwave for storage of snacks and warming things up. Everything was cozy, comfortable & perfect !!! We can’t wait until we return!

What’s not to like? Spacious suite and kitchen, beautiful fireplace, private patio with mosaic water fountain, our own humming birds, stylish but quaint, clean, and friendly owners and staff. This is the essence of Sonoma, people who are welcoming and friendly and make you feel at home. It’s a stone’s throw away from the Sonoma Plaza with the wine tasting rooms, nice restaurants and cute and unique shops (and I like to shop, these were nice shops). I found this place because I thought the picture looked lovely on the website but you know how you can get your expectations up and then are let down when you get there? That was just the opposite with Cottage Inn and Spa. It was everything and more. Love the basket of bakery goods on the doors in the morning and cereal and fresh milk and orange juice in the fridge. Love how they deliver messages with a basket on your door handle. I am definitely coming back to this place. Hopefully I don’t have to wait a year again. Save my spot!

AMAZING! There aren’t enough words to express how fabulous the stay was. I stayed in the Chapel Suite. They had a microwave, refrigerator and a wonderful breakfast nook with fruit, tea, coffee, OJ, milk AND cereal. In the morning, pastries were delivered and left on a hook outside our door! There’s even a jacuzzi tub! Outside our room is a great fire pit but from flames through broken glass stones. They had cushioned seats! Catherine was so gracious! It’s only a block from the center square!

I absolutely loved this place! Just a 2 min walk to the plaza… Right off the bike path for a scenic stroll. The staff was so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We rented the fountain view cottage and it was spacious with 2 yard areas that had a remote controlled water fountain. The kitchen had everything from a food processor and blender to cake pans. Gorgeous statues and comfortable bed! The best :)

Such a beautiful and quaint boutique place. The rooms is spotless and adorable. Quiet and secluded but a block away from the town center. Plenty of kitchen amenities and morning pastries at your door in the morning. If you are lucky to get the studio room, you have your own private patio that is perfect.

Came here for a weekend wedding and was blown away by the service. Well kept grounds, many complimentary services (free wine tastings etc) and perfect location between downtown sonoma and a nearby vista hike.

I should have written this review MONTHS ago! My husband and I got married in late November and stayed here for our honeymoon. My husband researched a lot of boutique hotels in the Sonoma area and this one seemed like the best option. When we arrived I was wearing my huge wedding gown and it was pouring rain. The staff saw our car arrive and came outside with two umbrellas, one for me and one for my husband. It was so kind of them to do that and during our stay they always went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. The rooms and grounds were beautiful. My favorite area is the fire pit-​its a wonderful place to relax. The fresh pastries in the morning were my other favorite. You’d open the basket and there would be a small quote on top of the best pastries I’ve ever had. They also gave us a wine tasting pass so we could go around the Sonoma square and do tastings for free! Thank you all so much for making our honey moon special. We want to come back for our anniversary – but hopefully you will see us sooner!

Very nice and clean place, we only spent one night there… but the location is great and the two girls at the desk are very nice. The breakfast pastry was very good and fresh and you can rent bikes. The price was good too… the room is greaattt… but no TV…

Stayed here for the first time over the weekend. Really loved the location — great for walking to the Square in Sonoma. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean, and very cute! The pastries that were delivered to our room each morning were delicious! We will stay here again. :)

Words can’t even do justice to how great this place is. They literally foresee every single thing you can ever want in a room, plus stuff that you didn’t even know you wanted. Amy, Zack, Gloria, and the rest of the staff are amazing. I’m proud to say we finally found our go-​to spot in wine country.

A piece of paradise! Incredible service, friendly staff and beautiful rooms. There was no attention to detail missed. This was my first visit to wine country and it couldn’t have been more special.
Recommendations on wineries and food were spot on. I can’t say enough great things about this spot!

This place is great for a relaxing weekend away from it all. The staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable about the area. The location is perfect — just a couple of blocks away from the main plaza. The room was great; there was even a fireplace in the wall that could be seen/​felt in both the living area and the bedroom. It was very romantic. In the morning, they left pastries on our door, which was a nice touch. The location does offer massages as well; the staff did a great job and I felt super relaxed for the rest of the day. :)
Not a fan: no shower, just a big tub and a hand-​held shower head. No TV.

We visited The Cottage Inn & Spa in September of 2013.
My husband and I were looking to get away from Los Angeles for the weekend… thank you fellow Unilocalers for helping us find where to go! This place was exactly what we were looking for!
We got a late start so we didnt get there until night time. We both forgot our car chargers so we could not call to say we were running late. When we arrived, there was a note on the door with our names on it welcoming us and specifying where our room was. At our door was another little note with the staff’s phone numbers and asking that we call at any time if we needed to. There were also rose petals shaped into a heart at our door step. I dont normally get gitty with things like this but I blushed :).
We opened the door and immediately felt like we were walking into our second home. There was champagne and fresh sweet chocolate covered strawberries on the coffee table waiting for us. You can guess how the rest of the night went ;).
The next morning there was a basket waiting for us right outside our door with pastries. I will admit that the breads did not seem fresh but we popped them in the oven to warm them up a bit, spread some jam and we were good to go. There was also fresh milk, OJ, cereal, fruit, coffee, and tea. I am not a big fan of eating heavily at breakfast so a bread or a bowl of cereal are perfect to get me going. Plus, I wanted to save my appetite for lunches and dinners out in the town.
On our way out, we met the staff and got a little tour (the grounds are charming to say the least!). They also gave us a list of wineries and recommendations on where to eat. They even helped us book dinner and a local Italian restaurant for that same evening!
Our short weekend stay here was exactly that: Short! I’d love to come back and stay longer to really enjoy all the other things The Cottage has to offer like the massages! Didnt get to book those but I’m kind of glad, its a great excuse to keep coming back!!!

I was searching around for a nice bed and breakfast in Sonoma for me and my wife’s honeymoon. I found the Cottage Inn on Unilocal and saw that they had great reviews. I checked their website and the pictures of the Inn looked really amazing. I decided to give them a call and get a little more information about their room availability. Since we just got married, we were on a budget. I gave them a call and they offered me a great price on the North Suite. My wife was expecting a small room somewhere in Somona, but when she walked into the courtyard and saw the room we were going to stay in, she was really surprised and excited.
The room was extremely clean and was well stocked with drinks and a few snacks. It was an extremely relaxing and comfortable stay for our honeymoon. The staff was really friendly and they made us feel like family. The Inn was right next to the square, so we were able to walk around with ease. I highly recommend this place!
