Razors Barbershop & Shave

I first heard about this place when I did a quick Google search for best barber shops in Boston and I agree 1000% that this place deserves a spot on that list. Most of the barbers are pretty good, I’ve had my hair cut by mainly by Jordan, but also Drew, Phil, and Anthony. All of them do a great job. The cuts are cheap and they have an online appointment system so there’s no waiting. It’s a cool environment and everyone is really friendly.
Street parking can be hard to find around the shop, so get there a little early. They carry a ton of hair and shaving products too. Suavecito is dope stuff if you’re on a budget. You can’t go wrong with Razors!

Not wanting to «mooch» off my uncle at his salon or take away a time slot for actual paying customers, I decided to venture into the barber shop scene.
Razor’s is super affordable compared to salon pricing which could go as high as $ 50 for a men’s cut.
At $ 20 a cut (minus tip) I believe it’s the best you can get.
I always, always, always schedule with Joe Berriola. I mean, he is a licensed MASTER barber. Aside from that being cool as heck, it makes me feel more confident in his skills and abilities.
If he’s unavailable for a certain date or time, I will schedule another date, even if it is weeks away because I don’t want anyone else cutting my hair now that I’ve gotten the master barber experience.
He is kind and welcoming. He will pay attention to what you ask and double checks everything so you can walk away happy. There’s never an awkwardness when you’re in the chair cuz he makes you comfortable with his friendly vibe.
Cleanliness is definitely something I noticed coming here. They sweep the hair after every client. They also change the razors they use in front of you, so you know you’re getting clean and sanitized tools.

I live a 30 minute drive away, but it is worth the travel!

It’s a cool barbershop with a great vibe. They will even teach you how NOT to cut your throat with a straight razor. You can make appointments on their website, or you can call, or you can be really old school and just walk in. Have it your way;-)

This place is the best! My friend had cool hair, so I asked where she got it and she said Razors, so I went and checked it out. That was 3 years ago, and I’ve been going ever since. Their business has grown exponentially over the last couple years, through word of mouth, and there’s a reason they’re so popular. They’ve got great people, great cuts, & great prices. The guys are nice and down to earth, totally cool working with anyone, and make you feel comfortable. A bunch of my lesbian, genderqueer, & MoC friends have gone to Razors. I’ve gotten everything from fun designs to professional cuts. My barber Joey always makes time for me and does a great job. He’s fun to talk to, full of great surprises, and an all around great guy, who keeps me going back again and again. If you’re looking for a barbershop, I’d highly recommend him and the rest of the crew at Razors.

The online scheduling system is the best thing ever — all barbershops should do this.
Anyone who likes to sit in a barbershop all day, inhaling hair while listening to bandwagon fans with exaggerated accents talk sports is insane.
Joe is probably the most personable barber I’ve ever met; oh, and he also gives a great haircut.

I’ve been to Razors twice now… I treated my brother last spring and a good buddy recently to straight razor shaves. The shop and the barbers are awesome. I started DE shaving a year ago — which I would recommend to anyone — and am now trying to master a straight razor, so I really respect this skill. Anthony and Joe took their time and we didn’t feel rushed. They explained what they were doing and why. Prices are reasonable and the on-​line reservation system was flawless. My next visit will be for a cut & shave. My advice, kick back to the «good old days,» get a shave, take a friend, your dad, son, whoever. You’ll be glad you did.

I’ve gone here twice, and I believe it was John who cut my hair. First time I got a haircut and beard trim, second time I got the hot shave, which was pretty cool and relaxing. I probably won’t get it again, as the process was a little much for me, but that’s no knock on the barber. I’m used to cheap barbers I guess, because I usually get a haircut and beard trim for 15 $, and leave a 20 at most place in Lynn. I thought 25 $ (+5 $ tip) was a lot for a cut and beard trim, but they do a great job, so they deserve to get paid as such. Might not make this my go-​to, but will certainly come here when I want to ensure that I get an excellent hair cut.

I can’t say enough about this place! As a female, the barbershop experience can be a bit intimidating but not at Razors.
Parking on Highland is a breeze (and free for 2 hours). Online appointments make the dreaded wait obsolete. Walking in you will find a tastefully decorated shop with a classy, comfortable feel. The barber closest to the door said hello with a warm smile as soon as I walked in and the added benefit to a reception stand gave this shop a feel of a salon which I liked!
Anthony was my barber and his attention to detail and kind manor made the experience comfortable and enjoyable. I walked out with one of the cleanest cuts I have had in a long time! I have found my new «go to» shop and I will be sending others this way as well!

Cut was fine, nothing exceptional. However, the policy of double charging if you run late to the appointment betrays a lack of respect for the clientele.
My wife and I have both used other businesses that have non-​refundable time slots, but in every other case, we have been able to call ahead when we are running late and ask to swap my slot with a walk-​in. No income lost for the business, we are the ones stuck with the inconvenience of losing my appointment time.
This was the first place to double charge me despite me providing ample notice that I would be late for my appointment. I’ll keep looking for a place that can deliver a good haircut and show some respect for the clients.

Sadly, the search continues for a place to get a decent beard trim. .. The guy I worked with here was way too aggressive in attacking the trim and didn’t really listen to what I was asking for. While I left hoping it wasn’t as bad as I thought, it was as bad if not worse. Thankfully my beard grows pretty fast so it will bounce back but this «trim» set me back months, this was a one & done visit for me.

After deciding to grow out my beard, I skipped the shave this time.
Wait time for a walk-​in was about an hour but my hair was getting shaggy and it needed help.
I got the same barber as last time and I was surprised to find he remembered me, even those last time was sans beard. He gave an amazing cut, and had really good advice because I was unsure if I wanted to try something new. In the end it came out MUCH better than I expected.
He also did a fine job cleaning up my beard, I’ve had issues taming it in the past and it looks better and more professional than ever.
Much more impressed this time around, keep up the good work Drew!

I was looking for a new barbershop and decided to try Razors based on the overwhelmingly positive Unilocal reviews. It’s a great place and I love their online appointment system, which makes everything so much easier than just walking in somewhere and hoping to get immediate service.
I’ve been going to Jordan and he’s the best barber I’ve ever had cut my hair. I’ve gone to him six times now and he’s super consistent every time. He does exactly what I ask for, even when I ask him to make changes here and there. He’s very precise and highly skilled. And 20 bucks for this level of quality is a great value.
I highly recommend this place.

I was in the market for a new barber recently and took to Unilocal as I always do. I look for more urban-​styled barbershops since the places in the suburbs usually just give everyone the same haircut.
I’ve been to a couple other places that have high scores on Unilocal,but decided to try Razors a couple days ago and I’m glad I did. I made my reservation online with Anthony and went with a cut and hot towel shave for $ 35 ($ 42 at Barbers Den, $ 65 at Tweed and $ 85 at Barbershop Lounge, for those of you keeping score).
I showed up a few minutes early and had no problem finding a free street parking spot across the street. They have ample waiting room and a fully-​furnished downstairs lounge area. I also like how they always have somebody working the front desk. A lot of barbershops are more of a free-​for-​all when you’re waiting for a chair.
Anthony was wrapping up his previous appointment right on time. For my cut, I went with my usual high bald fade with a straight razored part. The cut itself was perfect with a lot of attention to detail.
I think the real star of the show here is the hot towel shave. I have sensitive skin that irritates and cuts easily. I came out totally smooth with no redness or nicks whatsoever. I really liked the Proraso post-​shave gel that he used — much better than Art Of Shaving in my opinion.
I’d recommend making your appointment online at least 2 weeks in advance. I think my search for a new barber has finally come to an end! See you guys in a couple weeks.

Decided to surprise my husband and brought him here for a great haircut! He’s had me doing it… and for God’s sake I’m NOT a barber… and he deserves the BEST! These guys know what they are doing! They even have mobile booking. The customers are lookin good and so are the staff!

This place is pretty cheap ($ 20 for a haircut), has great service and the end result is always top notch. I was looking for a new barber a couple months ago and decided to make an appointment with Phil and I couldn’t be happier. He’s friendly but not in your face and always makes me look better than when I walk in the door. What more can you really ask for??? I’d say the best part is the straight razor shave to the back of the neck.
The only thing you really need to know is that you have to make an appointment. It’s super easy to do through their website though.

If I could give them 6 stars I would! What more can you ask for with a $ 20 haircut?
Lets start with my barber:
The barber that cut my hair was Jordan (same name, but no, there is no bias here). It seemed as if he spent 30 – 45 minutes giving me an amazing haircut. He also took the time to explain to me the difference between my forced part (a lot of product) and a part that he could actually include into the haircut. No barber had ever taken the time to tell me this much detail. One thing I often find at barbershops is that the employees usually have their own inside conversations and the client is left sitting there waiting for them to finish before the barber gets back to his hair. At this place, I was part of the conversation. He never took his attention aware from me, but also included me in the conversation with the other employees.
Waiting Time:
My appointment was for 5:30 and I probably sat in the chair around 5:35. I got there about 10 minutes early so in total I had to wait 15 minutes. This is both fine and acceptable in this place. They have a number of different products for sale that you can read about to pass the time. The guy at the front desk took the time to show me all the different blades they used and their advantages. He even gave me some advice at home to minimize my razor burn (hot towel around the neck for 5 minutes before, cold towel around the neck for 5 minutes after). I gave it a shot this morning and the difference is incredible! I owe him a tip next time I come through.
Environment:
This is pretty original. The green color is great and the individual TVs at each station are clutch. I can’t help but love the location since its about 2 minutes from my place, but that has nothing to do with the review.
Value:
Its 20 bucks!!! I do not think I need to explain anything more. For a haircut and straight edge clean up in the back, you cannot find a better value. I came from CT and the cheapest cut of nearly this quality, was $ 25 and it was 20 minutes from my house. It was also in this rundown shack ran by 5 really old guys. They gave a really good hair cut, but that was the problem… they only did ONE type of haircut (whatever hair style they had) which resembled mobsters in the 1930’s. Aside from that place, the next best thing was a $ 35 haircut in Norwalk.
So for those of you who do not know what you have here with Razor Barbershop & Shave, please take it from me, its a gem. Test them out with a $ 10 cleanup and see for yourself. I cannot wait to go back for my next cut.

Thank goodness for Razors. All the barbers are great. They do an excellent job in giving you a cut that matches exactly what you request and they all have really good personalities and are easy to talk to. Prices are extremely reasonable. If there is one bad thing that can be said, it is just too popular and you need to book appointments online at least about 48 hours in advance. Book further out for more options. Luckily they have a great online booking system and they typically keep themselves on track within a few minutes of the appointment time. Most visits, if I arrive early, they take me in a few minutes early.
Also be mindful they are closed on Sunday and Monday. If you prefer one of those days I would have to suggest being patient and waiting an extra day or two. It is worth going here over any other local options.
Bottom line is you will get a great cut, plenty of good laughs from the conversation and you won’t get hit hard in the wallet. Can’t be beat in the area.

Still my only place to let anyone touch my hair.

Since I’m done interviewing I decided I would change my style up a bit, and with that change try out a new barber. As an aficionado of European football I sometimes blush at the sight of all those amazing hairstyles worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Bacary Sagna despite being a straight male. Seriously though, Google these guys and tell me you’re not impressed. So, I bought in a picture of guy #2 and wanted to leave looking as close to him as possible.
Now, the fact of the matter is that guy #2 probably pays his hair dresser $ 500/​hour and takes a whole 90 minutes plus extra time to do his hair. I’ll admit, I don’t have those kinds of resources. But I am able to go to get to Razors Barbershop and Shave from my own two feet with my smartphone and a picture of Mr. Bale.
My haircut went fairly smooth with Phil, and although I didn’t end up leaving looking like Bale, I did get plenty of compliments from other people. There’s no doubt that the barbers are really talented. However, I have to take off a star for two small things. First, when I asked my sides to be taken up a bit higher, one side got taken up and the other didn’t. It turns out it works for my style, but the reason the other side didn’t get taken up I felt was because of time. Secondly, the straight razor on the back was a bit fast and furious. I had slight razor burn when I got home and the next day. I’m not new to wet shaving, I wet shave at home, and my other barber takes his time doing my ENTIRE neck AND sideburns. Despite all this, it is definitely one of the better haircuts I’ve ever got.
Style-​wise and purely based on talent I would give 5-​stars, but I’m spending some hard earned bucks so I’d like to get at least comparable service to my old place. I’ll have to go back to my old place to see if they can reproduce the style since this was my first time trying it out. No doubt though, if you’re in the area, Razors is extremely hard to beat if you have straight hair that needs a whack.
