I’ve only had a few interactions with Mac’s Auto body, but they’ve all been pleasant. They were friendly, helpful, and good at calling me back promptly. I’ll definitely be going back!

New 2015 Mercedes Gl63AMG — my Baby repaired by Mac’s — GREAT, GREAT Job.
I bought a new car, spent a fortune on it and then someone backed into the drivers door.
Jeff and the guys at MAC’s did a fantastic job to ensure that the RIGHT parts (original mercedes) parts were used and then made sure that the insurance company did the right thing. To put into perspective, when the insurance adjuster gave an estimate of damage, they sent me a check for $ 650! (when we knew the door alone was $ 2,000. Macs did a thorough evaluation and pointed out what needed to be done. The actual bill came to just over $ 5,000.
Mac’s did not cut cormers and did a superb job. I’m an auto nut and very, very fussy but the work was really flawless. I don’t recommend often but these guys are PERFECT.

Could not be more happy with the professionalism of this business. They kept me updated along the way and gave me realistic time approximations for both vehicles. One vehicles was self pay which took supersonic time to repair. An added bonus was how clean the cars were when I picked them up. Every nook and cranny cleaned. Thank you Mac’s Auto Body.

How can I give this shop 10 million stars?
I got into an accident in late October where the whole front of my car, one of the lights, as well as the suspension were all pretty severely damaged. Being from California, my insurance company did not have any contracted vendors and auto shops that they worked with locally. So, I took to Unilocal to try and find a suitable shop, and Mac’s Auto Body came to the rescue.
First off, they were super responsive. And I mean like every time you call, within the hours of 7AM-​6PM you’re going to get someone on the phone. Actually most of the staff arrive by 6:30AM and most of them will stay as late as 6 or 6:30PM. Both David and Jeff have children to pick up and yet they will always say, «Yeah, no worries. I’ll still be at the shop for a while. Take your time.» They will give you updates, they will contact your claims adjusters, they will even warn you of appraisers’ devious little ploys to try and squeeze more money out of you. David and Jeff are the dream team. They are efficient, they are knowledgeable, they are flexible, they are resourceful, they are endlessly patient, they are tirelessly diligent, and they are basically upstanding, caring individuals. They treat all customers, other professionals, and their own colleagues with upmost respect and friendliness. They don’t make promises they can’t keep and when they say they’ll do something, they’ll get it done and keep you updated of any major changes. They will not proceed on a change without your knowledge and consent.
When my insurance company contacted me that my rental was running out of the 30 days limit, Mac’s auto body instead took it upon themselves to make sure that they would help me out and try to make an arrangement with Hertz to extend it by one or two days. When the tow company told me they could not make the tow «after hours» as a 24 hour tow company, Mac’s called another tow, set it up and paid for it up front until my insurance could pick it up. When my appraiser decided to add a betterment, Jeff gave me a call first thing in the morning so I could get the heads up. When it came time to get my car and I didn’t have time to return the rental and pick up my car after work, David was still there at 6:15PM working hard, and even called Hertz to let them know he would drop off the rental to them the next morning. After all that, they gave me a complimentary pen, a «keep your drinks cold» cup sleeve, a mini flashlight, a list to keep of important car info, and a Bruins schedule! Totally free! :)
The work itself was beautiful. My car is a very rare grayish-​purplish blue color that is hard to blend. But they did a wonderful job and even added two new hub caps where the old ones had fallen off in the accident. Suspension is brand new and feels really sturdy. They also give pretty much lifelong warrantee on their work so at any point if something feels wonky, they assured me I could come back and get it looked at.
So to say that I’m a satisfied customer is a gross understatement. I’m so thankful to have found them and so grateful there are still people who work the way they do: tirelessly, compassionately, conscientiously, and honestly. Mac’s auto body, thanks for all that you do! :)

I had to have my car mirror replaced in Summer 2015, and Mac’s came highly recommended. My timeline was short — it was broken on a Monday, and I was leaving on a trip on Friday — so I brought it in right away. Mac was able to have his supplier deliver the part same-​day, and was able to salvage some of the mirror assembly so my total cost was below what I was expecting, based on the worst-​case scenarios I had been told. I will absolutely go to Mac’s again if I have any future issues.

I had Mac’s do some minor work on my car and was impressed with their level of service. This was a small job, but they completed it on time and even cleaned my car when finished. I couldn’t ask for more!

They repainted the side of my car and removed minor dents — they did a great job and coordinated things well with my insurance company (Plymouth Rock Insurance).

I was going through a gas station carwash recently when I heard a horrible crunching, snapping, and grinding sound coming from underneath my car. Turns out, some jabroni had left a bucket in the middle of the track, which got wedged under my Toyota’s bumper and promptly tore it to pieces. After having a… let’s say, «colorful»… conversation with the attendant and filling out some «you’re high if you think I’m paying to fix this”-type paperwork, I zip-​tied the remnants of the bumper together and limped home.
Not to worry, though: Mac’s to the rescue.
Dave scoped out the damage and gave me an extremely detailed estimate to send to the gas station for reimbursement. I put a modest deposit down on a new bumper — fair, because if I didn’t show up they’d be stuck with a bumper that lacked a corresponding car. The part arrived a week later, they painted it, and then I left my car with them for one day so they could install it. I came back that night long after they closed, but they had left the key under the mat (I kept the clicker to get in) and a receipt — not to mention a bonus fridge magnet and LED keychain light.
The work was flawless. The color matched perfectly. It was properly sealed and joined all the way along the crease where the bumper meets the rest of the car. The fog lights had been rewired and re-​installed in the new bumper. It looked fresh off the dealer’s lot.
Even better, everyone I dealt with at Mac’s — whether on the phone or in person — was generous with his time, friendly, and easy-​going, not gruff or intimidating at all. And they were honest, telling me that some unrelated rust damage I had asked about could probably be fixed for cheaper at another shop that specialized in such work.
I confess that I can’t really comment on price, since the car wash picked up the tab. But the estimate was very, very detailed, and the actual price was exactly the same.
I would recommend Mac’s to anyone. (Oh and they’re right in Davis Sq, convenient if you need to hop on the red line after dropping off your busted ride.)

Me to bring it right down so they could Take a look and within 20 mins I was set to go! They ordered me a rental, had them pick me up and bring me to finish my paperwork. They finished my car and even cleaned it nice little treat! I drove my rental

Mac’s did a great job fixing my car! I got rear-​ended and had never had to deal with repairs through insurance before. They were very helpful answering any questions about the process and helping me get a rental. Other shops were booking for 4 weeks away, but I called Mac’s on a Friday and they took it on Saturday. They estimated it would take 2 weeks, but it only took 1, AND my car looks brand new again. I really appreciate their help and recommend them to everyone.

My wife’s TIguan was in to Mac’s based on their reviews here on Unilocal.It came back with the repairs to the front end done right and the paint matching/​blending was very good. I will certainly take my next auto body work over there. Please keep up the great work!

The owner and the technicians are great. I’ve been taking my vehicles to Mac’s for many years… going all the way back when Dave MacLeod owned the business. I’ve recommended many friends and relatives too. Never been disappointed in the quality of work, service, honesty and professionalism. They work with you and your insurance company as much as possible. I wouldn’t recommend any other shop in the greater Boston area above this place.

When it comes to auto body repair, the only thing that matters to me is price. I don’t care if you have the best service in the world — all that matters is that you get the job done at the lowest possible cost to me. Now, I’m sure the people at Mac’s are very professional and take pride in their work. But let’s take a look at these estimates for a rear bumper replacement of my 2004 accord (labor, paint, emblem included):
Mac’s Auto Body: $ 845
Sako Auto Body: $ 800+
Webster Auto Body Corporation: $ 727
Tech Auto Body Center: $ 650
Somerville Auto Center: $ 500/​$ 600 (two bumper options, not including emblem)
EZ Auto Body: $ 500
Look at that price range! Keep in mind that all these places have Unilocal ratings of 4.5−5, so it’s not like the quality of service is going to vary much. After coming in to get my car checked out and receiving this ridiculous estimate, I did my research, and I simply cannot endorse this place unless the prices become more reasonable.
Don’t settle for the first auto shop you find. When asking for an estimate, body shops will claim they need to see the damage in person and thus can’t give you an estimate over the phone. While that may be true for certain types of damages where the repair needed can vary (bumper scratch, small dent, etc), for a straightforward case like a total bumper replacement, that information can absolutely be obtained over the phone. Just keep persisting, saying that you have all the information they need (VIN on your registration, make/​model/​color of car, engine details, etc). No need to drive around to each location to find the best price.

On Sunday November 9^th, I was trying to teach my friend how to drive at an empty parking lot in Assembly Square. Lo and behold my 2013 Honda Civic ended up reversing into one of those light poles with a cemented bottom. The driver’s side rear bumper was demolished and the rear quarter panel was bent in. That same week I went from place to place getting quotes from different body shops around the Boston area based on Unilocal reviews; I wanted to find a reputable body shop. I’ve never been in an accident before so this whole process was new to me.
On Thursday, I walked into Mac’s Auto Body right as they opened. I was greeted by Jeff who treated me with the utmost respect. He took a look at my car, gave an estimate, answered any questions I had, and then I was on my way. After visiting several more body shops, on Friday I decided to stick with Mac’s Body Shop. I chose them because they were conveniently located near Davis Square, which is only 1.5 miles away from my house so I could simply walk from/​to there as I dropped/​picked up my car. They also gave me a quote that was lower than the rest of the competition so choosing them was a no-​brainer. That day I was able to schedule my repair for November 23 and Jeff gave me an estimated time of 2 weeks due to the Thanksgiving holiday, which was understandable.
When the time came, Monday morning I dropped off my car and key which literally only took 1 minute. Surprisingly, one week later I get a call from Jeff letting me know that my car was ready to be picked up, ONE WEEK AHEAD OF SCHEDULE! I rushed down there the next day and there was my car completely fixed and clean, as if nothing even happened. They even kept the 2 rear splash guards that I attached to my old bumper, saving me money later on if I decided to get new ones! I could not be any more pleased, great job guys!

I love my car, and take excellent care of it.
Long story short, I tore the front bumper off backing out of a driveway in the snow. It was completely removed from the car. I went to Mac’s because he’s in the neighborhood, and they reattached it for nothing – they didn’t charge me anything. It took them almost an hour, and it was on a Saturday. I couldn’t believe it. That was about a year ago and the bumper has been totally fine.
Two months ago the car was hit while parked and needed body work, so I went to Mac’s, this time for $ 2500 worth of repair. The car came out flawless, and the process of working with the insurance adjuster was handled by Mac’s. They were responsive, polite, and never made me feel rushed when I called to discuss the work. They were realistic about when the car would be ready, and accommodating when I picked it up. They even polished my semi-​foggy headlights as part of the process. I thought that was great.
I highly recommend these guys. There’s not a lot of upside to needing body work done, but working with Mac’s takes a lot of the sting out of the process. And the work was outstanding.

I needed a part spray painted for my car. I brought in the car + part, and they color matched it and had it ready in 36hrs. That was amazing.
Friendly & fast

We recently had to bring our car in after an accident. It took a little while, but I got the impression upon walking in that these guys had our best interests in mind. It was refreshing to work with them after weeks of arguments with the insurance company.
They are professional, fair and obviously knowledgeable.

Went here for a quote and it was twice what i heard from the place in JP i ended up getting awesome work from. What’s better is I later encountered one of the mac cronies out in the real world and he was the epitome of rude. if you’re going to venture out into the town wearing your mac gear, don’t represent your company poorly. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman? Or young? Or a minority? But wow. Never sending anyone to your place of business if you will only be nice if I pay you.

I can’t believe I haven’t rated Mac yet! I rarely give out five star ratings, but this place thoroughly deserves it. I first brought my car here back in 1987 on the recommendation of a friend and I’ve been hooked ever since. The (comparatively) new owner worked here for years under the previous owner, whom he purchased the business from, so he’s got tons of experience and understands what his customers are looking for quality work at fair prices!
He is extraordinarily knowledgeable, and with very reasonable rates, and works as fast as humanly possible. All his workers are true professionals as well.
The one drawback? He is so good, that he is extremely busy, which means a six week wait to bring your car here is not unusual. BUT, if your car is not drivable, as mine was, he’ll fit you in right away. They handle all of the paperwork with your insurance company as well. And when you get your car back, you’ll never know it was in an accident.

Mac’s Auto Body is the best shop I’ve ever worked with, hands-​down. The repair job on my car was apparently no easy task, and while my car was with Mac’s for longer than I would have liked, Dave (the owner) was nothing short of professional, patient, and informative. He kept me up to date on the latest news on the parts coming in from Germany and worked with the car rental agency to make sure I was well taken care of. When the job was done the repair was not only complete, but the car was washed, the interior was vacuumed and the paperwork was a piece of cake.
Dave is a great guy, a smart business man who will do what it takes to make his customers happy. And he put up with me being a pain the butt too! That’s far more than I’ve ever experienced with any other shop. And let’s be frank — most shops are just shady and will take advantage of you the moment they get the chance. Not with Mac’s and not with Dave.
I hope I don’t have to get auto body repairs done again, but that’s a tall order. In the event I do, though, Mac’s will get my business.
