We specialize in the finest in authentic Jamaican cuisine.

We serve a variety of standard Jamaican menu items including stewed oxtails, curry goat, jerk chicken, brown stewed chicken, and curry chicken, as well as specials including fried chicken. In addition, we have wide variety of cook-​to-​order seafood and vegetarian options.

We serve appetizers like beef, chicken and vegetable patties, jerk wings, and homemade Jamaican soups that are perfect to start off any meal.

We have specialty food days including «Seafood Fest Fridays» when we provide a large variety of seafood options including red snapper, king fish, shrimp, porgy, fried codfish, codfish fritters, fish soup, along with homemade festival, bammy, and fried dumplings. We can prepare fish in any style: steamed with okra, escovietch, fried, brown stew, etc.

History

Established in 2012.

We started Rhythm & Spice Island Grill with a simple vision: provide authentic Jamaican cuisine, delivered with amazing service and in a beautiful and comfortable environment.

At Rhythm & Spice, we openly share the beauty of our Jamaican culture and the legacy of reggae music. On our building, the vibrant red, yellow and orange colors display the warmth and energy of our culture. On the inside, our walls are decorated with albums and pictures that pay tribute to legacy of Jamaican music. When you visit, you will smell the delicious aroma from the kitchen and hear the sweet sounds of reggae in the air. It will feel like home or your tropical home away from home.

Having lived in NY, I’m familiar with these small Jamaican establishments. The food is decent. The jerk chicken, although flame grilled is not very tasty (golden crust is actually better) but the oxtail is good. I tried the salt fish and Ackee breakfast which was good but they give you very little and a lot of huge boiled, dense, and unflavored dumplings and yucca. The patties are average too. However this is one of the better Jamaican establishments in the area unless u want to travel further.

Jamaican food has it’s hit or miss moments, depending on the spot. This spot is a hit. Their oxtails are stewed to perfection with meat that falls off the bone.
The jerk pork is the perfect hint of smokey and spicy. I love enjoying jerk pork and could not forgot the bliss that came over me when I tasted theirs for the first time.
When you enter, they are so friendly and have a wide variety to order. Ever had a good cup of carrot juice? Try their own store blend. Reminds me so much of home.
Give them a try, it’s worth it.

This is my go-​to soul food spot when I’m on Rutgers campus. MUCH better than Cool Runnings. Small oxtail with extra gravy, rice and beans is my usual. Sometimes I go when they’re on their last day, so the food isn’t the freshest — but otherwise, I’ve been to this place many times and will return.

This Resturant caught me by surprise… I choose to go here just to check to see if this Resturant was better than this place called cool runnings. This place definitely won my vote by a long shot. If you love Caribbean food definitely come here

I absolutely love the wife at the front desk. She and I joke about how far I travel to their establishment. I’m a little upset because I travel far to go there and I feel like they overcharged me today. Cool runnings is a restaurant that is closest to my house but they are rude. They act like they are doing you a favor by you buying their food. Rhythm and spice if a person doesn’t want a wholemeal just price them right. Overall their food is great and the wife can take a joke.

I really try hard not to give baseless reviews but this place never has half the food options on the menu available online!
And this wasn’t a one-​time freak occurrence. I’ve tried to order pick up from here about ¾ times and ended up not getting anything because they didn’t have what I wanted.
Keep it real with the menu so people know what’s actually available.
I’ve called and they’ve not had any soup, no curried shrimp, the only seafood is escovietch fish, the only rice options that are actually available are rice and peas and white, no fried dumplings. Totally disappointing.
I’ve only purchased food from here once, out of the 5 or so times I’ve attempted to and that one time was because I made the mistake of driving out there directly without calling first and well I wasn’t going to leave without food. The one time I got a soup and veggie patty. Soup was a bit salty, veggie patty wasn’t anything special but wasn’t bad either.

Friendly service and Jamaican patties. I usually go here for the chicken patties. I have gone here for lunch once or twice it was just okay… So I am rating this place on patties only. It gets four stars as it has the best Jamaican patties in town that I have found.

I went here just driving by, picked up the ox tails peas and rice, normal Caribbean dish, it was ok. Ill be going back here. The staff was cool and so was the food. The area seemed pretty quiet. Nice location.
