Very inconsistent in the way the food turns out. One time it will be made a certain way, another time less of this or more of that. Lack of training? Also, the last time I ate there the black beans and citrus rice were warm, but not hot like they should be. Food safety issue.

Rubio’s tortilla/chicken soup one of the very best soups I’ve ever been served in any restaurant. Loved it!

Not a bad location. Parking is a breeze. They have a pretty cool fish tank and makes for great entertainment while you’re waiting for your food. Service is nice, food is made pretty quickly. I’d pass on any of the salads as they’ve never been appetizing. Salsa bar is always stocked and clean. Good variety of drinks. Usually get the lobster burrito or the original shrimp burrito with the white sauce on the side– it can get a little too watering with it in it. Minus a star because they rarely put a lime in the fish taco when it should have it and sucks to find out when you’re all the way home.

One of the best Mexican places in SD! I got the grilled veggie taco plate! So flavorful and a delicious vegetarian option! Comes with 2 sides for around 8 bucks! Worth it! :) another plus: they have oatmeal chocolate chip cookies made with ghiradelli chocolate chips that are perfectly soft too!

This Rubios is great. I work close by and come here at least once a week. The food is fresh, service friendly and the place is clean. It’s usually packed during lunch time and I never have to wait more than a few minutes. Their salsa bar is always stocked and clean. Also, yesterday my fish on my bowl happened to come out a little under cooked(hey, I understand it happens). They apologized and were very professional about it. They quickly got another order out and gave me a few coupons for the future for my trouble. These things happen and it’s all about how its handled.

A pretty cool location makes this Rubio’s a little better than most. The staff was friendly and the food came out fast. I’m not usually a very big fan of Rubio’s but this stop hit the spot. I typically don’t find myself going to many chain mexican places while there are so many other choices in S.D. but this one was close to the Belly Up and worked. Prices are a bit steep for a simple veggie burrito(~$ 7) but that is typical with chain places.

This rubios specifically is my all time favorite. Exceptional service and ingredients always taste fresh. The best after beach food. I like rubios in AZ where I’m from but this one is a different experience. It’s just sooooo good.

Wow this place took me by surprise. A friend suggested it and we went. I got the 2 fish taco platter and it was phenomenal I had one original and one especial both were equally delicious. The only issue was I wanted just a little more so I had to order an a la carte gourmet taco which was amazing. I got the shrimp with avocado, bacon and cheese. I can’t wait to come again.

For a Rubio’s, I have to say that this location is as good as it gets. The restaurant is surprisingly beautiful and totally«Solana Beach». When my fiancé and I walked in, we gasped at how beautiful this Rubio’s was! We wondered if we stepped into a different Mexican restaurant. The décor is amazing for a fast food chain and in the middle of the restaurant there is a cool fish tank with lots of cool Nemo and Dori fish for you to watch while you enjoy your Mahi Mahi taco. I also particularly liked the service at this Rubio’s restaurant. The guys working there are really friendly and even though we were the only customers there that morning, they brought out our food pretty quickly. Stop by for this gorgeous location for fast Mexican food!

Rubios… what can I say? You’re amazing. Original fish tacos, langostino lobster burrito, picante salsa… and nice, welcoming staff! I’m craving an incredible fish taco right now!

Best fish tacos I have ever had, even out of authentic Mexican restaurants or mariscos places, I prefer theirs for great taste! The beans are legit, and the salsa bar is quite excellent with ranges from mild to diablo hot. Gone are the days when they were .99 cents, but they are still worth it at any price.

I really like this location. Centrally located right on coast highway. It’s also more of a restaurant than other locations because the counter is down a few stairs, separate from the seating area. I always order the Grande Chicken Bowl and when I came in they informed me it wasn’t on the menu anymore BUT they could still make it for me. Excellent customer service. I tried the pumpkin cake pop and it was awesome! Reasonably priced, good quality.

The new management team has done a great job at this site after previous players took a couple missteps. I have been a regular client for years, maybe since they opened as I have been in Solana forever. I love this place and what Ralph Rubio’s has done all together. There is nothing wrong with being a chain restaurant, but you have to do it right and Rubio’s does it right. in all the travels around southern California I have only had a few issues with the product and they always take care of any of those small mistakes. Ate at «Primos» three times and got foreign stuff in my food on the last visit at that place, but never ever at hundreds of visits to Rubio’s. I eat there Tuesday, my wife and co-workers eat there today and we keep coming back. Thanks to Mike and his team…

Rubio’s is a chain restaurant. It’s hard to get excited about a chain because no matter how decent the food it, it will always have been tested in a food kitchen lab first by people whose job it is to make sure the product uniformly looks, smells and tastes good. That’s not real food to me. And the worst chips ever. Sorry Rubio’s, you’re only good for visitors who don’t know any better, and on road trips where other eats are questionable.

The one food I’ve never cared for in life is Mexican, I know how can a person in San Diego not like Mexican food right?! However, I’m a healthy eater who loves fish, salads, vegetables and a person who’s on the go a lot and has to eat out a few times a week who also wants to watch her calorie intake. There’s only a few lunch spots I go to and now I can add Rubios to that list! In the last 2 weeks alone I’ve had their new balsamic veggie bowl I think 5 times! I’ve tried it with shrimp, double shrimp, blackened mahi mahi, grilled mahi mahi and the tilapia; I can’t even pick which fish is my favorite. I’ve had this salad here, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, pt Loma, Arizona and find the solana beach locations to be the best one yet! The veggies in this salad are grilled to perfection, the lettuce is fresh and there’s a perfect about of balsamic vinaigrette! I wouldn’t even say this is an actual salad as it’s more of a grilled bowl. The balsamic veggie salad alone which is $ 7.99 I believe only has 200 calories, the shrimp add on has 70, mahi mahi 110 – 120 and the tilapia is 130 – 140. They also offer this salad with chicken and they have 3 other fresh salads also. I imagine you can guess that I will be back and when traveling this upcoming weekend I’ll have to check out this bowl at yet another location!

I have been coming to this Rubio’s for years! My family lives down the street and it’s a perfect ending to a beach day or a day out in the sun. :) Though, nothing beats authentic Mexican food, which you can find on every corner, Rubio’s is still one of a kind and I am a forever customer! Salud

We placed a catering order from this Rubio’s for our son’s 4 year old birthday party. We got a quesadilla tray and a burrito platter. Everything was ready at exactly the scheduled time. After a quick trip back to our venue everything was still fresh and hot when served. Was a big hit with the kiddos and parents alike. I’ve long loved Rubio’s fish tacos and other specialities. These particular burritos were a little overstuffed with rice, and the quesadillas were a little on the simple side, but once again Rubio’s far exceeded expectations. The Rubio’s store manager was great to deal with, and the catering was the easiest part of the party.

Y’all, seriously, Taco Tuesdays. How is this not the BESTTHINGEVER? $ 1.50 fish tacos(either original battered or grilled or blackened tilapia) OR get the taco plate with any combination of the aforementioned tacos plus either beans & rice OR beans & chips for $ 4.49. Under 5 freaking dollars for 2 delicious, fresh tacos plus tasty beans and crisp chips — it can’t be beat. To be specific, I got the blackened tilapia taco and the original battered taco both on a warm yellow corn tortilla that didn’t break apart while eating. I couldn’t pick a favorite — I loved them both. These 2 tacos were definitely enough food for me. The battered fish was crispy and light, but not greasy. Serving fresh cabbage as opposed to slaw on this battered taco made for a lovely contrast with hot & fried and cool & fresh. The blackened fish had a nice spicy kick to it and was super tender and juicy. The slaw was very good and cooled down the spicy blackening spice on the fish. Squeeze a little lime or add some smoky salsa from the condiment bar to customize your taco. A featured taco this time of year(November) is the langoustine lobster taco. I didn’t try it, but I might go back before I leave town and indulge in this specialty. And they serve VANILLACOKE. Screw wasting empty calories on non-diet soda, I’m washing down my tacos with Vanilla Coke. I didn’t even know this elixir of the Gods was still made. It is most certainly not sold or served nationwide anymore. So, Rubio’s PLEASE come to Texas and bring your tacos and Vanilla Coke with you, because I think you would do REALLY well. This Texan would visit every single Tuesday, and even non-Tuesdays to get these tacos.
