Folks are really nice here at this very upscale pet boutique. HUGE selection of treats and a little bakery case for your pooches b-​day. It is pricey but we’ve found some unique items that you won’t find at Pet Smart, Pet Co, etc. Always worth the stop and your four legged friend will enjoy all the smells!

A little pricey. Bought a candy cane bone for a dog. Cute, but I thought it would be a little less money. I was expecting a little bit more holiday items, and items that could be personalized. Didn’t have that.
Cute though.

We recently purchased about $ 100 worth of puppy stuff at Muttropolis. The treats and toys were expensive but hey they are for our new puppy. The puppy likes the treats, but took about 30 minutes to break up a plastic toy. So we took it back and said we wanted them to know how quickly it was damaged and the potential danger. They said «thanks — we’ll tell the manufacturer.» We waited for a goodwill offer of a refund or store credit, but neither was offered. So we asked. They then said there is no guarantee on the indestructibility of animal toys. Really? How about the indestructibility of customer relationships? No guarantee we’ll ever buy anything there again or have anything nice to tell other dog owners about Muttropolis.

If you’re expecting a Petco sized selection… walk away. Rather, this is a modest but adorable, pet «boutique» store in the gorgeous downtown Solana Beach. Small but, exquisite selection of toys and treats for your fur babies. We stopped in briefly after Fiesta Del Sol to assuage our guilt for having left our pup alone at home whilst we frolicked and cavorted, only to drop a cool $ 65 on 3 toys and a handful of treats.(guilt is a B)! No judgement or hard feelings here as we knew what we were getting into!
Staff was pleasant if only, a bit frazzled upon presenting my 10% Unilocal discount. No matter, just took a bit of time to process.

We live out in Long Beach and usually take the train in to Solana Beach for the day. Grab lunch then we pick up some dog toys at Muttropolis on 5÷30÷15. My wife paid for the items for a total of $ 77.82. when we arrived at home I looked at the receipt and there was a bag charge of 10 cents. Not sure if this is a county law like in Long Beach however at least in Long beach they ask you if you want to be charged for a bag not just sneak it in your bill this is BS. I will never give Muttroplois any more of my business.

Loved this store until I owned an actual pet. None of there stuff is durable and it costs at least twice as much as Unleashed. If you want to throw money away to pamper a tiny pet, go right ahead, but if you have a normal dog they will just destroy this stuff.

This is a lovely shop with a great selection of toys at all price points. There are some beautiful pet beds and duvets for you to choose from. The staff was friendly but not overbearing.

This is a great little pet store located right in the design district part of Solana Beach. The pup loves this place as there are tons of smells and the staff is always super friendly and give tons of treats. This place has an excellent selection of toys, collars, treats and hard to find foods such as Acana. Overall, this is a great location to pamper your pooch in a super friendly atmosphere. Sign up for their loyalty program for additional discounts and also the Unilocal check in gives you 10% off your $ 50 or more purchase.

I love this store! Too cute — I got an adorable dress for my little girl today! You can become addicted to all the cute clothes available.

This place has the cutest clothes and tastiest treats for your loving pet. I got a pack of their dog treats that were on special for just under $ 6, plus a squishy toy and pig ear. This place is EXPENSIVE, but if you are going for a splurge, the staff is very friendly and willing to help you find what you need.

No way I would return to this place. There was an older woman who I found to be incredibly rude. I wanted a new harness for my dog. She pointed to her current harness and said «what’s wrong with this one?» Wow! I didn’t realize it was unacceptable to want a new harness for my dog? Isn’t this a pet store? Talk about making me feel unwelcome!

Great place to buy all sorts of stuff for your dog. I was strolling solana beach and was happy to have randomly walked into here. Bought a few thing for the pup and even found out they have an online store (I was visiting from out of town). It was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful, what more could you ask for?

Fun boutique for your pet. I wish they had a few more options for medium and larger sized pets, but you can’t go wrong if you’re looking for high end goodies for your furry friend!

When visiting Solana Beach just before Christmas time, I was picking up unique gifts and souvenirs in the Cedros Design District for friends back home. Of course I couldn’t forget a treat for my babies! I spotted Muttropolis and couldn’t get in the door fast enough. None of my pets will wear clothes, but what they did have was ADORABLE. They had some sale costumes held over from Halloween, some of which even included matching shirts/​accessories for pet owners.
The cat section was smaller, but it did exist. I snagged a pack of catnip balls for my kitties. What could be better than batting a ball around and getting high at the same time? According to my kitties, nothing.
I focused on the table of Greenies for my pup Bailey — whom we call the BaileyGator because she snaps at us with her puppy chompers. They sell Greenies individually in different shapes and sizes.
They had dog shape, cat shape, hedgehog shape and fish shape.
Long shape, short shape, heart shape and bone shape.
But my favorite shape of all, gator shape.
And that concludes my Dr. Seuss poem about the Greenies table at Muttropolis. Though it has long since been destroyed by BaileyGator teeth, that gator shaped Greenies was Bailey’s favorite chew toy ever.
The staff was SUPER friendly and obviously pet lovers themselves. They asked who I was buying treats for and if I had a picture. Are you KIDDING?! OF COURSE I HAVE A PICTURE OF MY BABIES. THANK YOU FOR ASKING. They then took it even farther and proceeded to fawn over my puppy pictures. She is the cutest puppy ever, but even if she wasn’t, I know they would have acted like she was.

I always wondered why there wasn’t a place like this, and these guys imagined it and portrayed it well! Kudos! I bring my puppy dachshund Daisy here to choose some toys and meet new friends. It gives her time to play and experience a new environment, and of course choose out exactly what she wants haha If you want to spoil your puppy then bring them here!

I bought a few toys here over a year ago and they are still the pups favorites!
One stuffed whale which now looks like an old sock is practically attached to her mouth! So cute.

I wrote a raving review for Muttropolis located in the village of La Jolla. I believe this Cedros location deserves accolades, too!
Optimal personalized service. Since I’m in the preparation stage for a new puppy … I have so many questions and need so much undivided attention. The salesperson was knowledgable and attentive. The teeth cleaner was so very sweet, too. She is a great greeter and very helpful!!!
I love this location just a smidgen more than La Jolla’s but only because of the fenced in yard in front. It is very inviting and a bit more roomy. Don’t want to diss LJ though! I know I’ll be attending pup parties at both locations!
The selection of high end items and unique are the best I’ve seen so far on my tour of doggy stores in San Diego!
Like I said in my other Muttropolis review, «I believe I will be spoiling my pup.». Muttropolis is going to help me!

You know when your friend or family member is expecting a new baby? You get really excited and then perhaps splurge at an adorable baby boutique for a frilly dress or a silver plated keepsake.
Well, replace the word «baby» and add the word «puppy» or «kitty» and you’ve got Muttropolis. I really like the Solana Beach vs. the La Jolla location for it’s open and airy store and mucho friendly staff. My dogs are total jerks so they usually don’t come with us but I love all the other doggie visitors & the big guy Kobe that usually lounges behind the counter on the cool cement floors.
I would classify this as a boutique not an animal supply store, so if you’re looking for competitive pricing on food toys and treats look elsewhere. Their toys and cat condos are so cute and modern– they cover a wide variety of styles, strengths and anthropomorphic cuteness. I’d say they carry tons of «why didn’t I think of that» items…
It’s like the «Melissa and Doug» of dog and cat toys… They think of everything. Also their website is exceptional!

AND my all time favorite of the season the «Mixed Breeds Cassette Tape Dog Toy» Plush toy in the shape of a cassette tape — swoon.
Obviously these are toys to match the owners personality and it will grab you hook line and sinker but I doubt my dogs actually need their own plush «iBone» iPhone shaped toy but I haven’t checked their xmas lists yet…
Items are expensive here but they ALWAYS have fair priced items, just not a wide variety and with that being said, I almost always buy my Bully Sticks at the San Diego Humane Society shelter store. They have 6 inch Bully Sticks for under $ 2.50 (I know RIGHT?!)
BUT… WAIT FOR IT…
the sales at Muttropolis and the charm gets this place such a high rating and my continued loyalty and business. They have great sales and discounts at the stores all the time and about twice a year they have ultimate blow out sales where they really dig deep for discounts. I take this time to stock up on all my toys for the year, leashes and gifts for others. I’ve gotten coats, rain gear and even tough terrain booties for gifts and even found a beautiful rhinestone collar that retailed for over $ 100 for under $ 15. Nice one.
This place is worth checking out for the novelty and the fun while you’re strolling along Cedros.
Side Note: Please help stop the cycle of cruelty and stay away from buying a dog or cat at a swap meet or through the paper. And as Bob Barker would say «Help control the pet population, don’t forget to spay and neuter your pets!»

I have been a patron of the La Jolla Muttropolis for years and recently found Cedros so I decided to check out the Solana Beach Muttropolis. I love this store. I have been here 4 times in the past month and I live in the East County. The staff is über friendly, knowledgeable and they have a multitude of things to choose from. Since we own little dogs and giant dogs, we find its always challenging to find a one stop shop for their needs, but Muttropolis always has a variety of choices for all our beloved pets.
We have gone to two breed specific parties this month and the staff is amazing with all that commotion. They close off the little yard in front and the dogs have a PARTY. It doesn’t matter if they are in the flowers, it doesn’t matter if they are running through the store, they are treated like VIP guests. It is so relaxing to be in an establishment where your dog can do no wrong. The staff just laughs and snaps photos, they actually understand that they are animals and not furry humans.
Yes this is a boutique for pets, so you will find high end items, but that’s not all they have. You can buy things from under $ 10 all the way up into the $ 100’s. From collars and leashes to food bowls. For those of us that like to play dress up with our dogs, they have clothing too. If you have a nervous dog, they have the thunder shirts available here (it is a miracle product). Yes, their dog food is not at Walmart prices, but then you would be feeding your dog some of the best food available on the market, not corn byproducts. (ok ok no preaching here).
I’ll give you a BIG hint, there are clearance bins throughout the store with discontinued or last season items. These bins are substantially reduced and you can find some real bargains, but the real hint is this. Go to one of their dog events and you will receive a coupon for 10% off of your entire purchase to be used the same day.
