Called three times left messages over a period of three weeks. Sent an email. No one had the courtesy to call or email back.

Rob sent his team over with just two days notice and Brandon and Lance were there early to get things going and make sure it was done in one day. Which it was. Resessed lights look great and I truly appreciate the management decisions these guys make. The minor upgrades they made were well worth the extra price and I will have them back for more work. Older home with lots of little issues and they fixed three of them in addition to installing the Can Lights. My daugher loves it. May upgrade them to 5 stars after the next visit. Place was cleaner then when they arrived. Nice work men.
Phase II, have to upgrade these guys to 5 big ones… they came back for the second part of the job and it is what I expected all along but wanted to just make sure before I gave then the Five Stars. What I like as much as the quality of work is the communication. We have a ton of electrical problems with this new house and the are able to listen, fix and educate us on what to do. nice work men.

We booked an appointment with Rob. He set the date and time. He was a «no call/​no show». We called numerous times to see what happened, no response. Unprofessional.

I called Rob mid-​morning. He was able to come within the hour to give me a bid for fifteen electrical projects on my new home. His bid was in my inbox by that evening and was the cheapest quote of three different electricians I contacted. His crew arrived the next morning on time and completely professional. They worked well with other contractors I had working at my home at the same time. Calray Electric has earned my business for life!

I have used Rob twice for electrical work. Installing recessed lighting and later to install a ceiling fan receptacle. Both times were pleasant, reasonably priced and professional. The first time was even on a Saturday given that I have to work during the week which was great. I am currently thinking about what I want him to hook up next.

I just went through the frustrating experience of getting a dedicated TOU 2 meter with SDGE and Rob was AMAZING! Anyone getting a Tesla Model S definitely needs to call him as he is the BEST electrician in San Diego dealing with installing the HPWC as well as the only electrician that I had luck with that would get back to me installing the dedicated EV TOU 2 meter with SDGE.
Aug. 2, 2013 — I filled out the online application on SDGE’s site and I didn’t hear back from anyone for a while so I called in and finally I got someone to call me back on Aug. 7. She told me to fax in a form, which I did.
Aug. 7 — I faxed in the form that SDGE sent me to apply for the meter.
Aug. 12 — SDGE calls me back & tells me to find an electrician that can install the wiring for the meter. SDGE explains that it will cost $ 1,500 — $ 2,000 for an electrician to do the wiring and getting the permits, etc. They say they don’t actually charge anything for actually hooking up the meter.

I contacted Rob Guillory from Calray Electric who was going to install my charger. I asked him if he would be willing to venture down this path with me. He told me that he hadn’t done any yet but he was really wonderful in willing to go through the process of it
I waited for over a week for SDGE to contact me back to tell me that I was approved for him to install the housing for it. First they said they had to come out to the house to inspect my existing meter.
Aug. 16 — Nancy A., a Planner emailed me and told me she came by the house to inspect my meter & just needed to know the make/​model of the car to get the final approval to get the permit for Rob to install the housing and wiring for my meter.
She was going on a 3-​week vacation so I asked her if I could get the permit to start this project ASAP before she left. She was really SUPER and it was only after making contact with her did I make progress.
That same day on Aug. 16, she emailed me a PDF to give to my electrician where exactly he should install the meter.
Aug. 20 — Rob came out as scheduled to install the housing but he had a bit of bad news. One of the parts he needed to install the meter was out of stock so I had to wait until it came. Rob was great however & he said that he would install my HPWC so that I could use my high-​speed charger as my car just arrived.
He said that he would come back out once the part came and re-​connect the HPWC to the dedicated meter housing. I was VERY happy at least I could charge my car on the fast charger until the part came in.
Sept. 4 — Rob came out to install the housing so that SDGE could install their meter. The process involved Rob installing the housing for the meter. Then that same day, he arranged directly with the City of San Diego to come out and inspect it and pass it so that SDGE can install meter
Sept. 6 — SDGE was supposed to come out and install the EV TOU 2 meter. I was waiting around most of the day. They told me I didn’t have to be home but I still wanted to be home as I had a bad feeling about everything, as the communication didn’t seem too clear.
I had to run to go pick up my son from school and when I got back there was a tag from SDGE on my door that said, «You have a 100 Amp breaker installed for your EV meter and we require a 40A breaker for this circuit. Please contact your contractor».
Unbelievable! I call Rob, who told me that obviously SDGE made a mistake as he just got done installing one of these meters for another Tesla customer.
Rob was really great and called me back late on Friday night trying to make a few phone calls helping me to solve things. To make matters worse, I had to go to a meeting in Chula Visa earlier that day and drove around quite a bit so I only had about 30 miles left on my car.
It was the start of the weekend and I didn’t realize that the normal charger you plug in only charges at 4 miles per hour! My fast charger was charging at 60 miles/​hour!
I can’t tell you how great it was dealing with Rob! He called me on Saturday morning & told me that he wanted to come by and at least hook up my HPWC back up to my main electric meter so I could charge at the 60 miles per hour recharge rate for the weekend until SDGE could fix this. This went a long way to show me how wonderful and a true professional Rob is. He didn’t have to do this but it was clear that he really cared about me going through the weekend and not being able to fast charge.
Long story short, Rob helped me solve this and was there until the VERY end to solve this. He did a GREAT job and I’d highly recommend him to anyone! He is the best. A true professional that is totally ethical and honest and a very hard worker. I’d highly recommend him after this experience for ANY electrical needs but especially anything having to do with EV and especially installing the SDGE dedicated 2^nd EV meter.

On time, very nice and professional. Rob quickly diagnosed the issues and explained them to me. He even went to Home Depot for a new ballast for the garage and asked if we needed anything while he was there. Quoted the work to take about two hours and he finished under that. For the issues we were having we expected a large bill. With him having to buy a new ballast and replacing lots of bulbs his price was extremely reasonable. We were very happy and will definitely use him again. I will recommend Calray Electric to everyone I know who needs a good electrician!!! Thanks Rob!

I see the good reviews, but I couldn’t benefit. I needed an electrician to install a new outlet. So I filled out the form on the web site. No response.
No big deal, maybe he doesn’t check his email or the form wasn’t working. I called and left a voicemail. I made sure I spoke clearly and left my name and number twice.
No response after several days. So I guess Calray Electric is very busy, which is a good sign, but communication and responsiveness is suffering.
I found another electrician on Unilocal to do the install and he did a great job, so no problem, check my other reviews and you’ll see who I’d recommend. Hope this feedback helps as constructive.

Rob is awesome. He has done a couple of jobs for us and is on time, professional, and has reasonable prices.
Most impressive, however, was that we had Rob review our inspector report for a new property in PB. We know NOTHING about electrical stuff and there were a bunch of issues noted on the report, but Rob was honest enough to tell us what we really needed to fix and what was not necessary. He could’ve taken advantage of us and done a lot more work than we needed, but didn’t. He only charged us a hundred bucks for his hour of work and was on his way. We’ll use him every time from now on and refer our friends to him.

I got Rob’s name from a Tesla website where an owner had given him a glowing recommendation.
Rob did a tremendous job replacing my old 100A Zinsco circuit breaker box with a new 125A box. The old box was a fire hazard. He also ran a 50A 240v line into my garage for my new Tesla S.
To do this, he had to lay conduit under a concrete walkway with brick insets. He had to remove the bricks, jack the underlying concrete, set the conduit, pour new concrete and reset the bricks. He did such a terrific job of replacing the bricks, you can’t tell it was ever done.
In tearing out the old box, there was some slight damage to the interior wall behind it. Rob repaired the drywall and touched it up with paint. Good as new. Rob also works with a very good stucco company and included that work in his bid. I like the fact I didn’t have to go out and find my own stucco contractor.
Rob’s price was very fair; I checked several other electricians. All work was properly permitted and done in a reasonable time.
As you can see from all of Rob’s great reviews, he’s the best!

Very professional, capable, and reliable. What more can you ask? I was completely satisfied with the electrical work done (enlarging the subpanel on my house and running a new 220 line up to my kitchen). Rob even surprised me by installing the new oven while I was at work.
I would absolutely hire Calray again, and recommend them without reservation.

Called this and another electrician about an electrical issue and they neither called back and it’s been a week. Guess they don’t need the work. Glad they are busy, but a courtesy call would have been nice. Won’t be giving them a second chance.

Top notch service in every aspect. Robert came out to look at my hottub that has been off for 6 months while I was deployed. He took his time and explained everything he was doing. After he ran up to the store for a part, my hottub was working again perfectly.
Calray was a great choice, and I will contact them for my electrical needs from now on. Robert is a great electrician who will fix any problem you have in an extremely efficient manner.

Rob was friendly and communicated clearly and listened to my needs. However, he completely missed my first appt. for the estimate due to a computer usage snafu. The price was very reasonable based on the one other estimate i got which was double the price.
When Nile came to do the actual work we started to have some communication problems which resulted in both of us being quite unhappy by the end of the day. But the work was complete.
I asked Rob to check Nile’s work which he promptly agreed to but he was an hour late due this time to me not getting his text message that he would arrive an hour later (I have a no text plan and my cellular carrier’s text messages blocked).
I found the quality of Nile’s work to be excellent aside from the fact he inexplicable didn’t want to caulk my outdoor electrical sockets and didn’t particularly care that both I and Rob wanted him to. He didn’t have any caulk so I provided him my caulk as well as a shovel so he could dig a trench as specified in the work description.
So my bottom line is that there are some issues in the area of communication, stocking of material and project preparation but that the final result is good if Nile actually listens and does what you want, which in my case was a challenge.

After purchasing a new Chevy Volt, we contacted the local electrical contractor that Chevrolet referred us to, which was part of a program that gives a $ 1200 towards installation of a charging station. This company came out and knowing that we were getting a credit for the installation, tried to tell us that our 6 year old house’s electrical panel was not up to snuff for what is a very small (20 amp) charger, and that we needed to spend thousands of dollars to upgrade the panel and electrical service.
Knowing this was BS, and based on the reviews here, we contacted Calray to get a second opinion, and Rob quickly determined that our panel was just fine, and in fact it could support an additional 50 amp circuit for our second electric vehicle (a NEMA 14 – 50 outlet for a Tesla Model S) that will be arriving later in the year. He quoted us a very reasonable amount to install the charging station we purchased ourselves, and said it wouldn’t be much more to run wiring/​conduit for an outlet for the additional 50 amp circuit at the same time.
We gave Rob the go ahead to do the work, and this morning he arrived EARLY, ahead of when he said he would be here, something we have never experienced with a contractor! Calray completed the job quickly, on the first visit, and their work looks to have been done with an attention to detail: clean mounting of the hardware, conduit that blends in with the surroundings, and they even cleaned up after themselves!
We can’t recommend Rob highly enough, and he will be our go to electrician for any additional projects.

I had Rob come out to initially check up on some minor electrical problems. I liked the manner that he attacked the problem by first hearing me out, checking on a few things, then getting into it to fix the problem. Less than 1 hour later — all fixed!
I was so happy with Rob’s work that I hired him to install a dozen lights throughout the house before my ceilings were going to be remade. His lighting suggestions were spot on and everything, to use a pun was ‘enlightening’. Sorry Rob. All jokes aside I will ask of Rob’s services without hesitation for the future. He is now my electrical guru.

Rob provides outstanding customer service! I didn’t think people like him existed anymore. I made an appointment with Calray to replace a few faulty outlets and light fixtures. Simple stuff and certainly nothing I thought I could be impressed about — but I was wrong. Rob answered a late night email within minutes after I sent it. He showed up exactly on time, fixed the known faulty outlets and did a quick check of all others. He was friendly, professional, thorough and efficient.
After he completed all of the work and I paid for the service, he went to leave and noticed a problem with our door handle/​lock as he was on the way out. The door had caused us problems for months and we just never got around to fixing it. Since he had the tools on him, he offered to take a quick look. Turns out the issue wasn’t exactly a quick fix, yet he stayed and fixed it for us and then refused to let me pay him for the extra time. Who does that these days?
I would highly recommend Rob to anyone!

Rob was great — I called 3 electricians before I called him. He is licensed and certified, and is a true professional with a great attitude. He came over the same day I called, and quoted $ 150 for the install of a ceiling fan with the install of a mount over my infant son’s crib.
When he came over, I appreciated the cleanly and courteous way he worked, laying down a blanket over the work area and quickly assembling the fan. He tested the existing mount and said it would support the weight, and gave me a $ 50 discount because of not needing to install the mount (I thought it needed a new mount, someone less honest would have probably done the work). He took the time to ask after the baby and tell us a little bit about his family too.
He installed the fan, tested every function, and was done in ½ an hour — great job and good peace of mind. He also looked at a weird fixture in my master bedroom and said he would install it at no charge because it «was a 5 minute job» — he just told me to buy the fixture, and call him when I was ready and he’d come back and throw it up.
I appreciate the service and integrity, and that’s tough to find in an electrician for some strange reason. Highly recommended and worth every penny — don’t settle for 2^nd best, call Rob and you won’t be sorry!
