Hook Line & Schooner

This is probably my new favorite place in Vinings, the food atmosphere and waitstaff were all fantastic. We had the peel and eat shrimp, oysters, lobster nachos, black grouper and baked stuffed shrimp. Everything we ate was so wonderful, and the lobster nachos were so unique, my boyfriend and I literally said no words other than «soooo good» while eating them.
We got the peel and eat steamed, and the seasoning was a bit spicy which was nice. I’m a lover of peel and eat shrimp so I was not disappointed. On the other hand I am not a fan of oysters at all, but there had absolutely no «seafood/​fishy» flavor and were actually very good. Best oysters I’ve tried so far.
We got there early, around 5 so we got a table right away but around 6 it’s started filling up so fast it was quite loud by the time we left. The ambiance is cozy and feels like you’re in a seaside town, and our waitress was super friendly and helpful. We will for sure be back to try everything we didn’t have room for. I literally wanted to spend all day here and order everything. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing! The food, staff, and drinks were all excellent. My husband and I will definitely be back. This may be one of our favorite local spots!

My husband and I went here because we had a BOGO deal in our dining passbook. It took a while for a waiter to notice and seat us and he forgot to give us menus, so we just sat around waiting for a while. Our actual waitress was very nice although she forgot to refill our water. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. My husband had the Green Goddess salad and some corn on the cobb and I had the shrimp scampi. My dish was rather disappointing; the sauce was watery and not very refined, the seafood itself was decent. Thanks to the BOGO it was still okay for the money we paid, but if we had paid full price, we would have felt like we overpaid.

Hook Line and Schooner is located in West Village. Due to the reputation of several failed restaurants in West Village, we have been skeptical about Hook Line and Schooner. We finally gave it a try because Scoutmob offers an amazing deal — 50% off up to $ 20 for dinner. Surprisingly, it’s love at first sight and I’m kicking myself for not coming here sooner.
I’d describe the décor as simple but chic. Wife thought it looks charming and inviting. Staffs are super friendly.
I ordered the following dishes: Peel and Eat Shrimp and Crab Cake. I absolutely love the shrimps: fresh, sweet, juicy, plumb, and huge. What makes it head and shoulders above the other peel and eat shrimps (usually blant OR way too salty) is the seasoning — just the right saltiness and SPICY!!. I’m not sure what kind of chilli they use, but it compliments the sweetness of the shrimps and the dipping sauces (cocktail sauce & bloody mary mayo) very well. One advice though: due to the overpowering flavor, it’s best to eat the shrimp last, otherwise, you might not be able to taste other dishes. Crab cakes are great too — almost all crab with minimal filler, perfect crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. The cole slaw that comes with it is tasty too.
I tasted the She-​crab Soup and Lobster Mac and Cheese that wife ordered and like it a lot. It has the perfect creaminess combined with sweet flavor of the crab… yuuuum…The mac and cheese is good, not great. However, it has so much lobster that you get a chunk of it in every bite.
Beer selection is pretty impressive. There are about 20−25types of beers (on tap, bottled, and can). Best thing about beer on tap is that there are three sizes to choose from. They also have daily specials and happy hour (Monday through Friday).
Needless to say, we love our meal so much that we’re planning a birthday party here next week. So glad to discovered this gem in our neighborhood.

First time eating here. Bad weather meant that they were not very busy. We were promptly seated and our server arrived soon after.
We decided to try a number of different things.
The Blue Point oysters were fresh and the cilantro sauce was outstanding. We also had the charbroiled oyster sampler and they were all very good. Next was some She Crab Soup with a dash of Sherry. Excellent!
For our main courses my wife had the stuffed shrimp which she thoroughly enjoyed and I had a combo of Crab Legs and Peel and Eat Shrimp. The crab legs were as expected and the Shrimp were the best peel and eat shrimp I have ever had. They were quite spicy (no warning on the menu) but fortunately I enjoy that.
After all that food there was no room for desert.
Our server was attentive and always available. A very good overall experience. We will most definitely be back.

Service was cool. Ordered the mussels which wasn’t bad, big portion for appetizer. Then I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich grilled with side of broccoli. I asked for no bacon and light lettuce. I get it back with bacon and avocado. It say nothing on the menu about avocado… Smh! I asked for the check and he still charged me for it. He said u want me to get you another one. I said nah I’m on time crunch I got a flight up catch. I still ate the broccoli because I was hungry. SMH. That mistake fucked up my whole mood of my day. I don’t think I will be going back there again. I’m just baffled on how the menu say one thing about the buffalo chicken sandwich and I got something totally different.

Hook line and schooner was exactly what I was hoping it WOULDNT be. A suburban restaurant with mediocre food.
2 of us showed up there around 7 and there was a bit of hullabaloo about getting us a table. 5 different server came up and asked us to please sit at the «communal table» — a large table with stools that seats about 8 people. Not being a fan of eating my dinner on a stool we asked to wait for a table. After about 5 minutes of waiting another server came up and suggested the communal table– getting awkward guys! Fine we’ll sit at the communal table.
Our waitress offered a $.75 blue point oyster special — we ordered 6 as well as the tuna poke, I got the fish and chips, my wife got she crab soup and a salad that was said to come with shrimp and crab.
The oysters were fine accept for one that had some sort green gunk all over it, the tuna poke was heavily sauced and salty. The soup was nice, creamy and rich. My fish and chips were hardly the best I’ve eaten and the shrimp on my wife’s salad was smoked. Quite possibly one of the stranger things I’ve tasted.
When we left we both agreed the food was fair. The restaurant has good prices and friendly service but you can get better food elsewhere.

I have been feenin for some good fish and chips, and I wasn’t disappointed! Both the fish and the fries were served piping hot… And weren’t just sitting on the line. Service was great and fast, food came out a lot sooner than I was anticipating. The batter on the fish was crisp, and had some flavor. I loved the crunch in the fries. I think the only thing that I didn’t like was the cole slaw, but it didn’t play a huge factor in me liking this spot. Also had the west coast charbroiled oysters, and they too were served hot… And the flavor was on point!
Definitely going to come back here for their drink and food specials! It’s also nice that you can get some good food OTP. Parking wasn’t bad either. Be sure to use open table for seating as well!

Some of the best seafood I’ve had in Atlanta.
We went because of scoutmob and will be returning.
We started with the oysters and a bowl of she crab soup.
Our server brought us out a sampling of the soup and it was perfect so we ordered and it was good to the last drop. One of the best I’ve had.
I ordered the crab cake sandwich. The crab cake has lots of crab and not a whole lot of filling so it was perfect. However, next time I would just go with the appetizer to do away with the bread.
My wife ordered the grouper blackened!!! My goodness. The freshness of the fish and the way it was prepared was outstanding. For the price, we expected less. This place is not too expensive and the food quality is a 10. We saw someone’s picture of the roasted Brussel sprouts and ordered them, they were great as well.
Our server was on point as well. Some of the best service and great food we’ve had in Atlanta. Overall, an incredible dining experience

A schooner is a sailing vessel or a tall beer glass usually a pint. I had to look this up to get the name.
The food was pretty good. Loved the side order of hush puppies but they were better than those that came with the meal. My friend at here last week and I had some of her left overs. The food was so good that time. This time though tasty it was a bit bland. I guess that just depends on whose in the kitchen. I had the shrimp and grits, like I said it was a bit bland but the first time I had them it was delicious. So next time let’s see if there is some consistency. The same with the fish and chips, just a bit bland. The peel and eat shrimp was really good.
The specials will make you come back they are really nice

Hook Line and Schooner is a seafood tavern that opened February 27, 2015 at West Village, a live-​work-​play community in Smyrna. The restaurant replaced Table 33, which closed Spring 2014. Crêpe Revolution was in this space before that. Hook Line and Schooner belongs to the same group as McCray’s Tavern, The Mill in Roswell, and CosmoLava in Midtown. I never went to Table 33, but I did go to Crêpe Revolution. Hook Line and Schooner is a big upgrade and an excellent addition to West Village.
The space has been renovated and it looks great. The restaurant has an open, modern, clean, nautical/​coastal theme complete with props/​décor such as life rings and oars. There are planks of weathered wood and light fixtures that look like they came straight off a pier or dock. The bar looks fun. It’s outfitted with two big TVs with crisp, clear pictures and a tall communal table. The naturally well-​lit dining room is a mixture of both booths and tables with lots of banquette seating. There’s a nice enclosed brick patio too.
Hook Line and Schooner serves Sunday brunch and has a bunch of daily specials. Here’s what the specials board looked like when I visited:
* Monday-​Friday, 4−6pm: ½ off oysters and ½ off peel ‘n eat shrimp
* Monday: ½ off house wine
* Tuesday, after 6pm: $ 2 Tecate cans, $ 10/​lb crab legs
* Wednesday, after 4pm: ½ off peel ‘n eat shrimp, $ 5 Mai Tais
* Thursday, after 6pm: 50-​cent Gulf oysters, 75-​cent Blue Point oysters
The menu has a good variety of seafood. Along with the aforementioned raw bar items (oysters, shrimp, crab legs), there are appetizers like steamed mussels, crab cake, and crab claw fingers; a variety of charbroiled oysters; salads and soups like seafood chowder, she-​crab soup, and ahi tuna salad; sandwiches like po boys and lobster rolls; fish and shrimp tacos; fresh fish and seafood; fried seafood (e.g. fried jumbo shrimp, oysters, scallops); and other entrees like fish & chips, seafood scampi, and shrimp & grits. Fresh fish and seafood on my visit included scallops, tuna, trout, and salmon. Expect to spend at least $ 15 – 20 per person on food.
I stopped in for a weekday lunch and tried the raw oysters (half dozen, $ 9) and the «Southern Fried Favorite» catfish entrée, which comes with fries, slaw, and hush puppies, for $ 15. My tablemate ordered a lobster roll ($ 15).
The oysters were surprisingly big, plump, and delicious. I’d easily put them in the «better» tier of oysters I’ve had in metro Atlanta. The menu didn’t specify what kind of oysters they were, so I had to ask. Turns out they were Blue Points, but I’m not sure if they were «true» Blue Points. Regardless, they were fresh, succulent, meaty, and pleasantly salty. I highly recommend them. Even the accompaniments were on point. These include the cocktail sauce, mignonette, and horseradish. The latter was fresh, sharp, and spicy — just the way I like it.
The entrees were served in small metal trays lined with paper, similar to how certain BBQ joints serve their food. Like the oysters, my catfish was fresh and meaty. The accompanying tartar sauce was strong and tangy. Four hush puppies came with the order and they were A-​OK. They were fried crispy to a dark golden brown. Each was about the size of a ping pong ball (unlike some hush puppies which can be bigger than the size of a golf ball). The fries were oily, but light (in terms of density), crisp, and addictively tasty. Unfortunately, I could not finish them due the amount of grease.
I tried a bit of my friend’s lobster roll and liked it. My girlfriend saw a picture of it posted on Instagram and thought it looked delicious, so I ordered one for her to-​go. The lobster roll is made with chilled lobster meat, celery, green onion, and mayo on a toasted bun with a side of warm drawn butter (melted butter). I stored the lobster roll inside my work’s break room fridge for the afternoon and brought it to my girlfriend in the evening. I took a bite out of it and enjoyed it. It held up well for the five or so hours it sat in my fridge and car. I’m allergic to lobster, but couldn’t resist. Sadly, I found out I am still allergic to lobster. #notworthit

This is only my second visit to hook line schooner which I found on accident. It has a great atmosphere for a relaxing evening. The food so far has not been a disappointment. It has been fresh a really beyond what I was expecting. I love the cleanliness of the restaurant. There’s nothing out of place. They have a wonderful selection of alcohol at the bar, as well as two large flat screens for viewing the game.
I gave them four stars because service has not been the best either time I’ve come this time in particular I ordered out and the bartender and I had a miscommunication he became very short and a bit rude. When I walked in the host did not greet me with a smile in fact I had to initiate my request to place a to go order, which he responded with pointing to the bar. Service means a lot to me so I probably won’t be spending as much money with them as I would have had I been provided with better service.

Good food, good variety, good flavored, good service. That’s 4 goods!
Had the shrimp and grits and wasn’t disappointed. Good portion to price and it was a nice presentation. Our waiter said it was one of his two favorites on the menu. Menu says «spicy» but I didn’t find it spicy but seasoned well.
Wife had the baked stuffed shrimp, our waiters other «top two». This dish wasn’t as good as the shrimp and grits. There was something awkward about its presentation and the shrimp were slightly over cooked. The stuffing was slightly sparse and instead if surrounding the shrimp (typical presentation) it was a dollop of stuffing in between each shrimp. The sides (broccoli and potatoes) were really good.
Service wasn’t bad but inexperienced. We had one cocktail each (very good) and while we were eating asked if we wanted more water. Not sure why he would ask if we wanted more date and just not serve. Also asked «can I take the plate». What are these waiters thinking, if the plates empty, take it what’s the worst thing that can happen.
Hey, all that said, I’m coming back. If the flavors of the dishes stay true, they are doing a good job. Next time I’m trying the fresh fish which they say changes daily.
Oh forgot, we had a she crab soup as a starter. Nice, not a traditional she crab but… Nice chunks of lump crab and the did garnish with sherry at the table which I though was well done!

I was really excited to check this place out with my fiancée and it definitely exceeded my expectations. I’m pretty cynical when it comes to seafood having lived in New England on the seacoast. Smyings (Smyrna-​Vinings) needs some more upscale variety and I was glad this place arrived on the scene. They have a nice simple (not overly fried seafood) menu with a well round beverage program.
The lobster roll literally was one of the best I’ve had. The perfect amount of mayo and sweet lobster on a nice toasted split top bun. Very authentic with the drawn butter. I probably could have eaten two. The buttermilk dress house salad will not leave you disappointed in case you decide to pass on the fries. Usually salad is a overmarked up item at any restaurant and side salad usually is spartan in it’s presentation and taste. The buttermilk dressing and salty pecan with mixed field green paired well with my meal and my fiancée’s tacos.
The have a great deal of reasonably priced beer and cocktail options such as $ 5 margaritas made with the good stuff and craft beers for around $ 3. They don’t skimp out on this area either and serve a margarita in a whimpy tumbler.
The service and ambiance is a nice upscale touch to an area that desperately needed it. The bar is non over-​packed or loud place to get a nice drink for a good price.

Been waiting to try this place out since it had mixed reviews, but we decided to go there today for lunch with a big group. We were pleasantly surprised with the service and the food.
A few of us had the lobster rolls, and my mom was going to be a tough critic since she’s had many lobster rolls in Maine. We all thought the lobster roll was fantastic. My mom said it was just as good, if not better, than some of the ones she’s had in Maine. It was the perfect combination of lobster, celery, mayo, and green onions.
Others had the mahi mahi sandwich, fried grouper, blackened grouper, fried shrimp, she crab soup… and everyone had great reviews for all of their food.
Since we went on a Sunday around brunch time, we were given complimentary blueberry muffins. They were absolutely the most delicious muffins I’ve EVER had.
We will definitely be back, as there are many more things on the menu that we all want to try!

We came after purchasing a Groupon and were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, cold beers and seafood/​seaman themed restaurant.
The blue point oysters and crab and excellent as well as the beers. The black grouper blackened left s lot to be desired as it was overly seasoned (wayyy too salty) and the Brussels sprouts were very undercooked. The lobster roll needed more meat for $ 15 but the fries were tasty and fresh.
All in all a great spot for fresh seafood and beers. I would skip the sandwiches and check what the actual cost is for ‘market price’ items; I paid $ 30 for my overly salted fish.
Service was great.

Hook, Line & Schooner continues to deliver! Delicious oysters… Really amazing. My fresh grilled tuna was amazing & my b’friend enjoyed his amberjack! They are serving brunch now and OMG the menu looks fantastic! Mary was our server and … Oh yea… she’s a Rawkstar!

I must admit, I didn’t have high expectations of this place. But it wasn’t bad at all.
hook line and schooner (all lower case) took over the place where Crêpe Revolution used to be. It is the sister restaurant of McCray’s, Cosmo Lava, and The Mill.
The menu has mostly seafood. If you hate seafood and your friends made you come here, don’t worry. They have other, non-​seafood items as well such as smoked turkey and burgers.
Like the name implies, it’s all about the seafood. We tried half dozen of their Blue Point Oysters. It came with cocktail sauce, horseradish, and cilantro mignonette. The oysters were fresh and delicious. I loved the condiments too. I wished I ordered a whole dozen of this, not half.
I tried their lobster Roll. It came on a nice, toasted bun. It was okay. It was too small and bland. It did come with melted butter. That helped with the flavor a bit. But I think they needed something extra to make it taste like something. The lobsters tasted fresh though. It wasn’t a bad lobster roll. I wished it was bigger, meatier, and more flavorful.
Their fries tasted good. Their cole slaw tasted good. Their hush puppies tasted good. The hushpuppies tasted like they had a bit of heat to them. Or maybe it was leftovers from the cocktail sauce. Whatever it was, I liked it.
Their Mahi Mahi sandwich is a messy sandwich to eat. For some reason, the bun disintegrated fast. Instead of using shredded lettuce, they should’ve used a whole lettuce on the bottom to protect the bottom bun from the liquids. Also, I think they should toast the bun as well. It could improve the sandwich.
The Po Boy was okay. This was hard to eat. There’s no way to hold it like a real sandwich and eat it. All the contents spilled out. It looked good when it came out, but it was another small sandwich. It felt like it was mostly bread instead of shrimp. I liked the sandwich though.
On Thursday nights, they have 50 cent Gulf Oysters and .75 Blue Point Oysters. So that’s the night to go have some cheap oysters.
I liked this place. I’m a bit hungry though because of the puny sandwiches. But I am satisfied with the food. I give it 4 stars.

Very pleased with this new neighborhood spot. They did a great job decorating, I definitely love the nautical décor. We came for lunch on a Saturday around 1:00 pm and we weren’t the only people which is a welcome sight in a Smyrna restaurant.
The food and pricing are both good which is all I ask for. The salmon dip is good– not to mayo’y, and comes with tasty chips and pickled veggies. My husband enjoyed his crab cake sandwich and I liked my arugula salad with golden beets and goat cheese.
Looking forward to returning for oyster specials and happy hour!
