Duke of Iron

Duke of Iron is terrible. They sent two men to install railing. The men during the installation tore apart steps on the bottom of the front stoop. The owner of the company finally came to the house after four phone calls. He said it was not his company’s fault. That it was the fault ot the masonry company. We had this stoop a while before the railing was installed by the Duke of Iron. There were no steps loose. The owner would do nothing. Do not use them.

We signed a contract for $ 1765 to have a custom white powder coated wrought iron railing for our back steps and landing, with Paul, the owner, in July. A couple of weeks later he came personally to measure the job. When the installers came a few weeks later, it had been measured incorrectly and had to be taken back. In September they returned to install the new railing, which was at that time cemented into concrete. When we inspected the railing we noticed 3 places where there were very noticeable nicks in the powder coating, so much so that the black iron showed through. We could not have the railing removed, as it had already been cemented in. We refused to pay until the damage was corrected, and also requested some money off since it would be impossible to now touch up the railing with paint to make it match the quality of the powder coated finish. We took photos to document the defects. Paul argued with us and refused to give us a discount. We then waited another 2 months, until mid November, before the touch up was finally done. It was not done to our satisfaction, and after another unpleasant argument, Paul agreed to take $ 250 off but since we wanted at least $ 400 off, we were not happy with this either. They do excellent work, the guys in the showroom are knowledgeable, helpful and patient. They have lots of examples of railings in their showroom as well as binders full of pictures of work they’ve done.
