I have been visiting this store off & on for years. Understaffing is a consistent issue. It takes forever to find help because counters are empty. My sales person in shoes can’t remember what I wanted but no one is here to help her. It’s a shame because Lord & Taylor is generally a pleasant experience pretty much any place else but here. Seems this store doesn’t care.

It’s incredibly poor customer service to refuse to look for an item when someone calls in and has the item name, a specific description, and the web ID. The only reason given to me was that there are just too many dresses to bother looking without a UPC, so I’d need to call the 1 – 800 number and then call back. She wasn’t waiting on a customer or too busy to look — just simply too lazy and apparently didn’t care enough. Great service!

Love the place and sales associates here. I’ve found a lot of brand name merchandise on sale and really nice deals. The Men’s, Women’s Kid’s section is pretty large and they have some great dress shirts and ties. Also, if you use your L&T charge card you will save 15% on most sale items almost any day of the week. They usually have a coupon, just ask the sales person. They’ll put you on the mailing list and you’ll get some great deals for the future.

I was in BCBG at Macy’s and tried a dress but wanted a different size. The lady put the dress on hold and told me it would be at Bloomingdales. The ladies working at the BCBG counter there were rude and said «sorry we don’t have anything on hold on that name» without even looking. So I walked to BCBG in lord and taylor thinking I’d made a mistake. Elba at the BCBG counter in Lord and Taylor was so amazing! She told me that the dress I put on hold was actually at Bloomingdales the whole time. Honestly I wasn’t going to go back there after poor treatment. Elba genuinely wanted to help me find a dress and I’m so happy the sale went to her. :) 5 starts to Elba in BCBG lord and taylor. 0 for Bloomingdales

I echo the comment on service here being non-​existent.
Came in right when they opened, intending to return an item. Can’t find anyone to talk to. Had to walk around to find someone to help me. Ridiculous.

They got a great selection of dresses and shoes. Service is very mixed… Dress dept ladies are not helpful… understaffed. The store is not clean and they spray febreze all over. The carpets in the dressing rooms and really throughout the store are filthy and stained. Step up your game L&T

I’m protesting simply AWFUL, insulting, and embarrassing treatment by a salesperson. I went over to the costume jewelry section to look at earrings, and after asking me if I needed help (and I politely declined), the saleswoman continued to stand right next to me, apparently convinced that I was trying to steal something. This has to be how profiling feels – and it is very ugly and feels horribly unfair. Do you know how demeaning this is? Do you care??? I will NEVER walk into this store again. The whole experience completely deflated me. I had absolutely NO intention of trying to steal something – but this saleswoman appeared to be convinced that I was a security risk. This was just humiliating for me, and I would like to know why she thought it was her place to treat me like this. I don’t know if this will matter to anyone at Lord and Taylor’s, but you have lost a customer FOR LIFE.

store does not honor its discounts. first time credit card user for the store. had a 20% discount for one day. wanted to buy a coat which the store found in another location. they would not honor the coupons or the one day 20% discount on the item found in another store. said it was an internet purchase! why? I was not on the internet its a register search of your other stores! honor what you print Lord and Taylor. you lost a customer.

I came here so many times over the two weeks I spent in Chicago in August, for so many different reasons, I can’t even count. I visited the men’s department a whole bunch of times, and almost every time I came into the store I found something I liked for myself. So it’s good in that regard.
That being said, the customer service could use some work. We were told that we would get a certain amount of money off our next purchase if we spent a certain amount, but the salesperson failed to mention the many catches associated with this deal– we had to go to another department to get the coupons, and even those coupons had a number of conditions associated with using them. Pretty lame.

Yes, at times, they are short-​staffed, but I have only had very pleasant salespeople wait on me, who were delightful and helpful. The women’s department is the best. I had to return a pair of pants for a larger size and I had no problem at all.
I am a frequent customer at the Skokie store. The prices cannot be beat when you include clearance and a coupon. As the previous writer mentioned, for dressy clothes, they are wonderful. I prefer shopping here than at Macy’s, which I find to be a total disorganized mess!

My friend and I went shopping for winter wear/​accessories. I was trying on gloves and I asked a saleswoman if she had the pair I was holding in a size smaller. She said they were on sale and whatever they had was on the rack. Then she asked if I wanted to look at the Ugg gloves ($ 100). I told her no thank you, they were out of my budget. She walked away. After my friend and I were finished (I had gloves and she had a coat), a different saleswoman said she would be happy to ring us up. She was very bubbly. She rang up my gloves and they came up 25% off. I told her the sign said 50% off; we walked back so she could confirm this. I was right. She honored the price but didn’t seem thrilled about it. When she rang my friend up, she was falling all over herself and even offered her an extra bag, which my friend turned down because she said it was unnecessary. When I came home, I discovered that there wasn’t even a gift box in the bag nor had the saleswoman asked me if I needed one (I had said yes to a gift receipt). The only time the saleswoman talked to me was when we went to check the price and when she told me the total. She made little eye contact with me but was very sweet to my friend because she spent more money. I’ve worked retail for a long time and though she was professional and nice, I felt she was a little racist (she and my friend are white and I am not) and classist. You should try to treat everyone equally, especially when they are polite to you, whether they spend $ 20 or $ 200 because ideally, you want them to return. Without customers, there is no business. I shop here because I’ve had great service in the past and they have good sales, but I will think twice before shopping here again.

I shop here primarily because it’s one of the few stores in this area that carry black LeSportsac and Hobo handbags. But I can no longer take the rude, haughty sales people. Many of them act as though they’re doing you a big favor by taking your money. I have resisted online buying, but the clerks at this store are convincing me it’s the way to go! Lord & Taylor HR people – are you reading all these reviews about your horrible sales staff?

Today I accompanied my husband on a trip to L&T in search of a sport coat and pants for a job interview. Kevin in the suiting department could not have been more patient, helpful, and lovely – especially considering the general chaos of the store bustling with customers. Thanks Kevin!

Sometimes the service leaves a bit to be desired. I feel like it’s one end of the spectrum or the other. Sometimes I can’t take two steps without someone asking me if I need something over my shoulder other times I can barely get help when I need it.
The reason to keep coming back are the fantastic sales. At certain times you can get very nice clothes 50%-70% off.

I come here for the sales. Lord and Taylor offers really good deals on business suits which I need to wear for my job. Customer Service is hit or miss. Some are really nice and helpful. Others will tell you you’re flat out wrong and the item is not on sale even though you carefully read the sales rack sign and there were other items that like yours on the rack. If you prove them wrong, they don’t always apologize.
I think the OO store has a better selection for shoes than the Northbrook Court store, but their suit and clothing selection is better at Northbrook. Overall, it’s a good place to check out if you need something more formal to wear. You just have to overlook the customer service and make sure you read the sales signs carefully because the sales person is not always right!

For dressy clothes, I always start at Lord & Taylors because they have SO MUCH variety. I grab anything that looks at all promising and just head to the dressing rooms and try everything on – making piles of «possibles,» «horribles» and occasional «wows.» To me it’s a numbers game, and I usually come out with something terrific and usually inexpensive to boot. I had great assistance recently from a lovely salewoman Sunny, and the woman who did my alterations was brilliant. I ran over to the shoe department, found a fabulous pair of 3-​inch pumps to set the hem (ended up buying them, they were so comfortable). I will always come to the Lord & Taylors dress department first; it saves a lot of running around.

I was shopping with a gf for a formal gown and this store is dependable for delivering classic, non-​Cache, non-​Prom like dresses (depending on the time of year of course). But something happened to this store. One step into the store and it we were hit with the smell of mold! It was awful.
What happened? Was it recent? The carpets were all dirty, loose and wrinkled into rolls like the fur on a pug’s face. We tried to shop here but the smell was in the dresses. Totally unacceptable. Fix it!

I will never shop here ever again, and I’m telling everyone I know to do the same. I won’t even go into the whole story because this review will become a novel if I do, but long story short, I was trying to return a Coach wallet I bought online as a gift and they were trying to refund me 20 percent less than I paid for it. The associate and manager were rude, unhelpful, and even made me take out my phone and call their customer service number to resolve the issue. Luckily, the person I spoke to on the phone was far less idiotic than the sales person and manager, and easily resolved the problem. Somehow, the employees still claimed that the whole misunderstanding was MY fault?! NEVER AGAIN! Lord and Taylor, your employees SUCK!!! ZERO STARS!

Service doesn’t exist. Not only do they seem short staffed, but the staff that are there don’t seem interested in providing service.
We came here with the intent to buy. We left with the intent to never return.
Honestly, the one free person we talked to and asked for help to buy things from the store played hot potato and said that we had to get help from the guy we were waiting for.
Screw that. I ain’t comin back.

I was searching a dress here for a formal event and the salesperson was very helpful in finding sizes and styles for me. I ended up buying a dress, but the next day I went back to return it because I decided that it just wasn’t very flattering. The manager would not let me return it because she was accusing me of wearing it and reapplying the tags. There was a small spot towards the top that I didn’t even notice before, and she said that the store «never attaches the tags like that.» I wouldn’t even know how to reattach the tags, and I definitely didn’t wear it. Overall, she was very rude. So now I’m stuck with a dress that I don’t really want to wear.
