Gold’s Gym Simi Valley

I have been going to Golds Gym in Simi Valley for a year now. I paid in full so I can’t comment on billing issues people post about.
I do love the gym. The staff is all very friendly. The equipment is kept in clean working order. I am lifting and taking classes so I will review both
Weight lifting areas
Plenty of weights
Cleaning is always happening
Not that busy the time I go
People don’t bug you
I can’t really think of a negative comment on this section
Classes
They have classes throughout the day
They have some awesome instructors.
The bad
The room is not cleaned enough. The floor is always dirty
They don’t offer enough Zumba classes and the times of the ones they have are in the afternoon.
I would love to see a couple extra Zumba classes in the morning. Bella and Jolene give a great workout. If you want to burn up some serious calories give Zumba a try.
Locker room is always clean. Nice big showers. The steam room is awesome!
So I guess Golds Gym is pretty good. I only gave 4 stars because of the classroom cleanliness and the lack of a popular class. Add more Zumba in the mornings.

Gold’s Gym always does a great job hiring great people, and because of that my problem with Golds is not the people at all, but rather corporate itself.
As a member of Golds for 5 years, I felt like I earned the right to freeze my account for 3 – 6 months while I went abroad. I later found out that not only could they only freeze my account for 3 months, but they would charge me $ 10/​month to do so. I ended up canceling my membership completely because of this after telling them I would if they wouldn’t freeze my account for 6 months free of charge. Seems like a reasonable request to me.
Another thing that I dislike is the consistent salesmanship attitude corporate forces upon the staff. It is not fair to expect all trainers to be salesman and push expensive pills/​supplements on clients. I feel like this expectation has led to a high turnover of great personal trainers. It led to the loss of one of Golds best trainers, and upon losing them I had no choice but to go with another trainer of theirs rather than canceling my contract.
I just want a gym where I can lift weights and enjoy. To be able to look at a board of pricing for personal trainers and membership costs, choose what I want and get what I pay for.

Beware! Membership Contract is sketch and management is unhelpful to say the least. Recently hubby signed up for Gold’s Gym. He works near Simi now, and wanted to join a gym. He signed a gym contract… And found out a few days later that his office has a gym that he can use for free. We have now been charged several times since cancelling with Golds. It was $ 10 activation fee, $ 100 to cancel, and of course you have to give 30 days notice when you cancel so he has to pay the first month dues… we couldn’t really give 30 days notice since he was a member for only a few days!!! The manager Rico Medrano was incredibly rude to me on the phone, and to add insult to injury, I just saw an add on Unilocal that they offer 21 day free pass which was not extended to my husband … Uggggghhhh!!! When I asked to speak with Rico’s manager, he said that would be the CEO of Golds, and he would not provide me with any further contact info. He was aggressive In his tone and said «I do NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS TO YOU!» This is the gym nightmare that doesn’t end. They just did another debit from our account today. I have reason to believe the contract is void because they do not give the physical address anywhere in the contract, which is CA health club law. The next manager I spoke to said «the contract is not voidable»… What?! So the law is not enforceable? I am currently working with the DA, consumer complaints, and local media. Just google «Oxnard Gold’s Gym» to see the future of Simi’s Gold’s Gym!

Worst. Customer Service. EVER! I have been a gym member at this Golds for off an on 7yrs. I use to do tons of training there and was a total gym rat. Then I got sick. I still had some personal trainings on file. After 2 yrs of surgeries and physical therapy, I was oked by my doctor to return to working out so I called to schedule some trainings. I was told no one was available and they’d call me back in 20 mins. Cut to no call back at all. I called again a day later, was told same thing and again no call back. So I went into the gym in person to schedule. Was told no one was available but they wrote a post it note and put it in the box of apparently the only rehab personal trainer they have named Becky. No call. To think I was going to sign up for more trainings too and pay them money. But no worries I found another gym and rehab trainer who was more than happy to take me on and I only had to talk to them once.

They have poor billing practices. My automatic credit card payments weren’t going through and they didn’t send me anything in the mail or call to inform me (it was a standard credit card number change) and sent me to collections. I only found out when I happened to ask about my account for something else. I couldn’t believe they would send me to collections for 30 $ and without even informing me that there was a missed payment.

Simply. A great gym! The Zumba classes are fun. My top 3 Instructors are Daniela, Jolene & Bella! LOVE them! The cinema room Is awesome! The childcare is the best. I’ve been there for over 5 years now. I try other places but they don’t hold a candle 2 it. The pool, spa & steam room are great 2!

I want to start off by saying that I am an amateur bodybuilder and I travel a lot. My review is based off only 1 visit to the facility. I am a member of the Gold’s franchise and this is one of my favorite facilities I have been to. Some of the best equipment of any gym I’ve seen, a great selection for whatever you’re training for. Layout of the gym is perfect. Staff were very friendly and often when I’m traveling I catch some attitude from many of the other Gold’s Gym employees but at this facility I felt very welcomed. If I lived near this gym I would come daily. Whether you’re in town for a day or looking to join a gym, this is a great choice.

Gym has gone down hill. It’s changed so much. staff is rude now. They also switched systems so I can’t use my barcode to check out waters or food. They said it’s cause I set my membership up in Thousand Oaks. My membership is up in May. I’m using it then. I visit this location much more than Thousand Oaks cause it’s closer and my boyfriend and I go to this one. I think since I set my membership up, I went to this location multiple times a week. I’m using it to get back in shape but it’s terrible how bad it’s gotten. May 22^nd I’m waiting for you! I will NOT renew!

Horrible! I signed my minor child up and requested one round of private training They used our credit card for additional private training WITHOUT OUR APPROVAL. They had our credit card for charging monthly fees. We complained that we would not pay for additional private training. We tried to get a refund but all we got was the run around. We were promised a check and that was 4 months ago. We gave up the fight and cancelled our membership. What a hassle!

They get 1 star for customer service so you better hope there is not a problem it will never get resolved. Front staff friendly but lack knowledge.

I will say that I have had an up and down relationship with this gym for a while. From what I can see they have really stepped up their game recently with brand new modern cardio equipment, reliable wifi and staff that seems to care. the gym is now under new management and is open to suggestion and positive/​negative feedback. I hope its sustainable for the long term.

I am currently a member of Gold’s Gym at the Simi Valley location. Never in the 9 months that I have been a member have I experienced such unprofessional behavior from multiple members of the staff. To start off, I purchased 2 tanning memberships from an associate in April 2015, one for myself and one for my partner. When I signed up, I was notified that I was going under a mandatory 3 month contract, which was appealing since I was going on vacation at the end of June. I was asked to sign the touch screen keypad for the purchase and never received or saw a formal contract. A month into our tanning, I began to receive a body rash from your stand up tanning beds. I went in and asked to opt out of my contract, but was told that I would be locked in to the 3 months regardless. This would have been an opportune time for the associate to express the need for me to sign a cancellation document a month prior to the end of our contracts, knowing that I no longer wanted to use the tanning only a month into my contract.
On June 29^th, I received a new debit card, which prompted me to contact Golds Gym to add this card to my account. After doing so, I asked the associate to double check to make sure that our tanning memberships were in fact over. The associate disclosed to me that I would be charged for the month of July since I never gave a 30 day notice of termination of said contract. They informed me that I needed to come in and sign a cancellation document in person. This is where my issue began. I went to Golds Gym that same day and spoke to Adam Young. He explained to me that there was nothing he could do for me. I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to and after speaking with two more associates they finally asked the General Manager of the Simi location, Sam Rezai to come speak to me. Sam came out to speak to me about my issue. I began to explain to Sam what had been going on only to receive sarcasm and disrespect in return. After going back and forth for 15 minutes, he informed me that he would reach out to corporate so that he could give me my refund of $ 43.98. Before I left, Sam changed his story from giving me a refund to a «possible refund». He informed me that if he did not get back to me within 48 hours, that it was my responsibility to reach out to him. If I was the manager of an establishment and a consumer had an issue, I would do my due diligence to make sure the issue was resolved.
Two days later, July 1^st, I called Golds Gym to speak with Sam. An associate explained to me that he was at corporate and he would not be in until the following day. On July 2^nd, I called Golds Gym for a second time to speak to Sam. Sam told me that he had not heard anything from corporate and to give him a call on Friday, preferably any time after 5PM. On Friday July 3^rd in the afternoon, I called to speak with Sam and I was told that he was busy and that my message would be relayed to Karlie West (Operations Manager). The associate disclosed to me that she was on her lunch break and would call me once she was back. Never receiving a phone call from anyone, I called Golds Gym and asked to speak with Sam and or Karlie regarding my unresolved issue at 5:30PM. An associate told me that Sam was gone for the day and had left at 5PM. I then asked to speak with Karlie West. She got on the phone with attitude as I began to explain my situation to her. By this time, I was parking in the parking lot and told her that I would be inside Golds Gym within the next 2 minutes. She disrespectfully stated that she did not have the time, she had an appointment, and that she was off the clock. By this time, I was walking into the location while I was still on the phone with Karlie. Once I said I was walking in, she hung up the phone. I went to the front desk to speak with associate Adam Young, who informed me that she just left through their back entrance/​exit.
Expressing my frustration with the situation to Adam Young, Reza Shaik, and Leonard Castillo, I was given your contact information. I completely understand if Sam did not hear back from corporate regarding my issue, but as a manager and as a professional, he should have reached out to me regardless. If Karlie West was not able to talk, she should have never made her self available and should have returned my phone call when she got back from lunch. The levels of disrespect from an establishment to a consumer in regards to my issue was something that I have never experienced in my entire life.

Just had the worst experience here with Rico, the general manager, who doesn’t know the definition of customer service. When the gym makes a mistake with their membership, that’s not my fault. If you want to maintain customers, providing good customer service is essential. I hope it was worth losing a customer but as they’re all just cogs in the giant corporate machine, I doubt any of the employees there actually care.

This review is long overdue. I guess better late than never… lol. I have to say. I’m a person who is hard to please. I was looking for a good gym to go to when I moved here from London. Checked out a few gyms close to me. I didn’t fancy any of them until I found this gym in Simi. Yes a bit of a drive from Chatsworth I must say but I’m so glad I signed up here! I got a good deal for paying 18 months upfront. Never had any problems with any of the staff. They are all very polite and professional.
It’s super clean both gym and restrooms. I was shocked how immaculate and clean the restroom was. No nasty odors. Fully equipped and we’ll ventilated! I was sold when I walked into this gym. It’s big and spacious. They have an outdoor basketball courts, swimming pool and jacuzzi. A boxing ring, large punch bags ^_​^. And my favorite of all. the cardio cinema room. They have everything there. I know I’m ranting on and on. but you have to see for yourself. It’s great here and I wouldn’t go anywhere else to be frank.
Another thing. there are a good number of women who also go here. ^_^

Typical Gold’s gym membership & billing issues which shouldn’t have been a problem because my account was paid in full for a 2 year membership. My key card never worked. After numerous complaints, they cancelled my membership. I should have been issued a partial refund for the year remaining that I paid for. Unfortunately a manager was never on site that could help.

I initially joined the gym because my husband liked this versus 24 Hour Fitness and because they have a movie theater with aerobics equipment. Being a movie buff, it was a huge plus on days when i was not motivated to workout. I get engaged in a movie and end up with hour plus of elliptical or treadmill.
The reason for the review is however their Asst Manager Brandon Kelchner. In the past my interaction with him was related to follow-​ups on training sessions. He had always been helpful in his follow-​ups and very customer service oriented. Recently I have started to work with him as a trainer.
As an individual I have struggled with my weight loss and especially in the last 2 years, no matter how much effort, I put in, the weight would not come off. In the last month of working out with Brandon, I have started to understand the impact areas. I have achieved a weight loss of 4 pounds and loss of 1 — ¾ inch everywhere. For those of you, that have been a on a similar yo-​yo journey, you know this is huge. I have really appreciated working out with Brandon and highly recommend him to anyone going through similar struggles.

I would leave zero stars if I could. Their «policy» to cancel a membership changes Everytime I would call to cancel. They screwed my son out of a lot of money (who was underage at the time that he signed up).
Don’t sign a contract at this gym, ever!

GOLD’S GYM ILLEGALLY WITHDREW MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT. I wish I could give this place negative stars. The gym itself is great, but the customer service is the worst I have ever seen. When things are going well, the staff is more than happy to help, but when it’s not going well you can’t get ahold of anyone. I had a billing issue 3 months ago and still have yet to talk to a manager on the phone. I have no desire to go in personally. Here’s the scoop.
I stopped going to Golds in December of 2014 because I started hiking, jogging and doing i-​symetrics in the mountains. I tried to cancel and they made it next to impossible, so I just canceled my debit card. 2 months later I got my housekeeper a membership there as part of her salary and put my card on her own account.
After 4 months of not working out there and NEVER giving them my new card for my account, they put two and two together and realized that the card I had on file for my houskeepers account was mine and ILLEGALLY withdrew over $ 180 from my checking account without my authorization.
My bank put a stop payment to Gold’s in Simi and a payment actually went through the next month for $ 66. I asked the bank how that could have happened and it was because Gold’s gym fraudulently changed their gym code on the statement so it didn’t look like the same gym that had a stopped payment.

Golds has good amenities, but the reviews are true about the company giving you the run around and a tough time when trying to cancel memberships.
I had a hard time trying to cancel just the VIP add on. Took me about 3 months of calling/​talking to various (5+) employees while changing my credit card and still being charged. No wonder there was a class action lawsuit against them recently! Other than horrible customer service, the equipment and facilities are pretty nice. Trainers are awesome too! Just make sure you can do the commitment for however long your contract will be or opt for the month to month.

I always enjoy a great golds gym. I usually go to the Thousand Oaks location because its close to my work, but on weekends I enjoy this location. I love the fact that their facility is on point with the machines from treadmills, to bikes, to their free weights. Their staff is also on point making sure your needs are satisfied and your not dissatisfied. The consistency of each location is great, as you can go to any location and you will get equal service. Some locations are bigger than others but in the end service will be just as good.
Parking is in the mini mall lot and is a non issue.
Service is great and your needs will be met.
